Willetta H. Shaver
Willetta H. "Willie" Shaver, age 78, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away at her home Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000.
She was born on Nov. 26, 1921, in Samson, Ala., and was a resident of the local area since 1953, when she moved here from Samson. She was Methodist by faith. Mrs. Shaver enjoyed archery and was a state champion. She was also a member of the Elks Club.
Willetta enjoyed doing for and helping others. For the past 30 years she enjoyed being a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Vern Shaver. Survivors include her son, Joseph W. Johnson and wife Carolyn R. of Fort Walton Beach; stepson, David Shaver and wife Marlene of New Orleans; stepdaughter, Becky Sims of Meridian, Miss.; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; niece, Peggy (Jerry) Rose of Panama City, Fla.; and other great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with Pastor Charles Sansom officiating. Burial will take place in Beal Memorial Cemetery. Friends may also call one hour prior to services.

Franklin Howard Hoffa
Lt. Franklin Howard Hoffa, retired, age 78, 1460 Cat-Mar Road, Niceville, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000.
He was born in Blandon, Pa., on July 1, 1921, to William and Sally (Himmelreich) Hoffa. Frank was a veteran of World War II and the Korean conflict, where he served as a Navy pilot. He also worked under civil service at the Naval Operations Office in Pensacola, Fla., accumulating more than 35 years of federal service.
Frank was a member of Northbay Baptist Church in Seminole, Fla., and the Silver Eagles Organization; DAV of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and an active supporter of several Christian charities. Also Tulpehocken Settlement Society and Hoffa Genealogical Group, NPA.
Frank is survived by three children: Linda (Charles) Maddox of Austin, Texas, Sandra Hoffa of Sturgeon Bay, Wisc., and Howard (Renee) Hoffa of Bishop, Texas; and eight grandchildren. Survivors also include a sister, Lucille (Honey) Schaeffer of Kutztown, Pa.; and a special friend of many years, Rose Norton of Niceville.
A memorial service will be held at Northbay Baptist Church in Niceville at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at 2:30 p.m.

Joan Marie Chandler
Joan Marie Chandler, age 58, of Shalimar, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at her residence.
She was a very gracious lady, cherished by her family, and will be greatly missed by those who knew her and loved her, went to live eternally with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
She was born in Scranton, Pa., on Aug. 5, 1941, and worked for civil service over 20 years, currently employed as a secretary at the Base Safety Office at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.
Joan was preceded in death by her father, Anthony Ostromecki, in 1991.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Chandler of Niceville, Fla.; mother, Mary Ostromecki of Scranton; stepchildren, Simone Breitenstein of Clinton, Wash., Dawn Guy of Windsor, Colo., and Richard J. Chandler of Lamasa, Calif.; brother, Robert Ostromecki of Rochester; five grandchildren; and several aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at McLaughlin Twin Cities Funeral Home, with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Niceville with Father John McNamee officiating. Burial will follow in Heritage Gardens Cemetery in Niceville.

John Robert Boyd Jr.
John Robert Boyd Jr., age 53, Villa Tasso, Fla., passed away Sunday morning, Feb. 6, 2000, at Twin Cities Hospital in Niceville, Fla.
He was born in Daytona Beach, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of this area. He was employed in the home building industry and was Baptist by faith.
Survivors include his mother, Kathleen Byers of Crestview, Fla.; grandmother, Christine Cannon of Niceville; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Graveside services will be held in Sunset Cemetery in Valparaiso, Fla., at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, with the Rev. Chuck Chapman officiating.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Twin Cities Hospital and Dr. Kenneth Haskin for all their service and kindness shown during John's hospitalization.

George D. Bryan Jr.
George Delmar Bryan Jr. of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away at his residence on Feb. 10, 2000.
He was born in Geneva, Ala., on Oct. 18, 1925. His hometown was Opp, Ala.
Having served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force, he retired from civil service at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., in 1974. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita (Nita) S. Bryan; son, Del Bryan of Opp; daughters, Donna Baldwin and husband Robert of Jacksonville, Fla., and Janet Gallagher and husband John of West Palm Beach, Fla.; two granddaughters; brother, James H. Bryan and wife Maxine of Navarre, Fla.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Emerald Coast Funeral Home, with a visitation one hour prior to services. The Rev. Mike Roberts will officiate. Burial will be in Jesse Rogers Cemetery in Mary Esther.
Chessie Mae Hendrix
Chessie Mae Powell Hendrix, "Granny," age 80, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away in a local hospital Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1919, in Opp, Ala., and was a resident of the Niceville, Fort Walton Beach area for the past 74 years when she moved here from Opp. She was Baptist by faith. Friends would remember her as a special bus driver who served the Okaloosa County School District for 33 years, driving the special needs children. She was a member of the Elkettes. She also loved to fish. Chessie was an outstanding member of the community who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, James M. Powell; and also her husband of 28 years, Ralph W. Hendrix; and a daughter-in-law, Barbara Powell.
Survivors include her son, James David Powell of Fort Walton Beach; stepson, Paul (Jeppie) Hendrix of Lemar, Germany; daughters, Linda Powell of Freeport, Fla., and Kathy (Eddie) Murray of Shalimar, Fla.; sister, Lessie Lee Moss of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Toni Hepler, Dianne Adams, Christine Weigan and Timothy Murray; stepgrandchildren, Ralph Hendrix, Taylor Hendrix and Rosemarie Hendrix; two great-grandchildren; and other special friends.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Little Chapel Funeral Home.

Harold Calvin
Harold Calvin, 73, of Niceville, Fla., passed away peacefully Friday, Feb. 11, 2000 in a local hospital. He was born in St. Louis, Mo., on July 17, 1926. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy on the CVS Cabot. He was a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, and his working career was in radio broadcasting. He enjoyed golfing and was a member of Rocky Mountain Bayou Country Club. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Mundy Calvin, of Niceville, Fla.
Survivors include son Christopher and his wife Sue; sons Douglas and Thomas; stepson Garrick and his wife Elizabeth Morgan; stepdaughter, Kellie, and her husband Joseph Marzullo; brother, David and his wife Jody; brother, Donald and his wife Beatriz; father- and mother-in-law, Charles and Marion Mundy; Grandchildren, Bradley and Sarah Calvin; and a step-grandchild, Ashley Marzullo; several nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000, at Christ Our Redeemer Catholic Church, with Father Craig Williams officiating. Following services everyone is invited to a reception at the church.

Clifton O'Neal
Mr. Clifton O'Neal, 70, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 12, 2000 in a local hospital.
Mr. O'Neal was born in Andalusia, Ala., to the late Ernest Clifton and Tiny Mae O'Neal. He had been a resident of Fort Walton Beach since 1970 when he moved here from Texas. Mr. O'Neal served in the Air Force and was a repairman for Sears for 18 years.
Mr. O'Neal is survived by his wife, Elaine O'Neal of Acworth, Ga.; son, Raymond O'Neal and his wife Sara of Fort Walton Beach; son Patrick O'Neal of Fort Walton Beach; brother Jimmie O'Neal and his wife Cassaline of Fort Payne, Ala., and grandchildren, Christopher O'Neal of Georgia, Jackie, R.J., Kasey and Kristen O'Neal, all of Fort Walton Beach.

Thomas Lee Horne, Jr.
Thomas Lee Horne, Jr., of Destin, Fla. and Franklin, La. died Feb. 11, 2000 in Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn. July 30, 1923. His parents were the late Amilda Knox and Thomas L. Horne of Flintstone, Ga.
Mr. Horne is survived by his wife, Margaret Lee Hope Horne, his sister Susan Horne Logan of Boone, N.C., and children T. Lee Horne III of Destin, Dr. Amilda Knox Horne of Durham, N.C., Roberta Brumby Horne Fisher and her husband Frederick of Greensboro, N.C., stepdaughter Sherred M. Williams and her husband Fred M. Williams III, of Durham, N.C., and stepson Carnot G. Milligan III, of Destin, and seven grandchildren.
His education included Dahloniga (Ga.) College, University of Georgia, Annapolis, and University of Georgia Law School. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity, the Boston Club of New Orleans, and a former member of the Crew of Sucrose and the Rotary.
He practiced law in Athens, Ga., before locating in Franklin, La., and was of counsel to his law firm, Aycock, Horne and Coleman in Franklin and Morgan City, La. He held directorships in the St. Mary Bank and Trust, the Morgan City Bank, Riggs Land Company, the Emerald Land Company, and the Rebel Land Company, all of Louisiana.
