Roy L. Rutland
Roy L. "Bud" Rutland lost his battle with cancer at his home in Destin, Fla., on Feb. 16, 2000.
He was born in Carmi, Ill., on Nov. 20, 1929 and spent most of his working life in Evansville, Ind. He moved to Destin in 1992, where he enjoyed a wonderful and successful retirement filled with many new friends.
He liked to spend his free time working with wood, making special things for his four children: Larry, Deborah, Barbara and Mark; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. His wife, Ruth, survives him.
They loved to travel, visiting such places as Istanbul, England, France and Australia. Their last and favorite trip was to Africa.
The family asks that any contributions be made to your local Hospice. We thank them for their wonderful care. The family gives special thanks to Cecil Lawson and Tony Carroll.
Fred Moore
Fred Moore, age 69, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Thursday afternoon, Feb. 17, 2000, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Graham County, N.C., and lived in Crestview for the past five years. Mr. Moore was a retired mechanic with the city of Winter Haven, Fla., and Polk County, Fla.
Survivors include his daughters, Melinda Carroll, Kathy Moore and Sharon Moore; sons, Don Moore and Larry Moore; brother, Robert L. Moore; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
There will be no local services.

Hugh W. Adams
Hugh W. Adams, age 90, of Crestview, Fla., went to be with the Lord on Friday, Feb. 18, 2000, after an extended illness.
He was born in Westville, Fla., and was a lifelong resident of Northwest Florida. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Crestview; Masonic Lodge No. 50 in Crestview, York Rite Bodies and Hadji Shrine Temple in Pensacola, Fla. Hugh was one of the committee members of the building committee for First United Methodist Church when constructed. He also was very generous to his church and other churches in the community.
Hugh was the owner of the Hugh W. Adams Building Supply in Crestview for 35 years. He retired in 1978 due to health problems. A loving and devoted and generous father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Mattie G. Adams of Crestview; daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Dennis Griffin of Crestview; grandchildren, Dennis Griffin Jr. and Karla G. Solesbee; great-grandchild, Alexander Solesbee; and numerous cousins in the area.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at McLaughlin-Aultman Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be conducted at First United Methodist Church in Crestview at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20, with the Revs. John Wesley Spivey and Jerry May officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Memorial Park Cemetery in Crestview.

Mary E. Pryor
Mary E. Pryor, age 93, of Mary Esther, Fla., passed away Saturday evening, Feb. 19, 2000, at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center. She was born in Lakewood, Fla., and moved here in 1936. She worked as postmaster of the Mary Esther Post Office from 1938 until her retirement in 1974. She was a charter member of the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Walton Beach, where she was active in the Women of the Presbyterian Church. She was also a charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Fort Walton Beach, where she was a Past Worthy Matron.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Roger Pryor, in 1995.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Mayrelizbeth Pryor, and her grandson Eric Pryor, all of Mary Esther.
The family will receive friends at the McLaughlin Mortuary in Fort Walton Beach on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. An Order of the Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Walton Beach on Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at 2 p.m. with Dr. Jack Walchenbach officiating. Internment will follow in the Jesse Rogers Cemetery, Mary Esther.

Jerome H. LaChapelle
Jerome H. LaChapelle, age 66, of Destin, Fla., died Saturday morning, Feb. 19, 2000, peacefully in the comfort of his home. Born in Detroit, Mich., Jerry and his family moved to Destin in 1966, where they were one of the first permanent residents of Holiday Isle. His love and appreciation for the area led him to become a pioneer of Destin's early resort development. A kind and generous man, he touched many people along the Emerald Coast.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Sally Jo of Destin; his son Robert J. and daughter-in-law, Laura M. LaChapelle of Atlanta, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law Robert E. and Vicki LaChapelle of Indianapolis, Ind., and three beloved grandchildren, Sam, Charles and Sara.
A memorial mass conducted by Father Robert Morris will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000 at 10:30 a.m. at the Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Destin.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, Inc., 101 Hart Street, Niceville, FL., 32578.

Jerry Mauldin
Jerry Mauldin, age 75, died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 in Niceville, Fla. Mr. Mauldin was born Feb. 10, 1924 in Walton County to Jack and Lille Moore Mauldin. Mr. Mauldin served his country in the United States Air Force with 20 years of service and retired as a Tech Sgt. Mr. Mauldin was also a veteran of the Korean War.
Mr. Mauldin is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jean S. Mauldin of Niceville; two sons, Roger R. Mauldin of Darlington, Fla., and Michael Pritchard of Syracuse, N.Y. He is also survived by six daughters, Jan F. Mauldin of Pensacola, Fla., Sheryl A. DiGerolamo of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Wanda Schibley of Newark, Ohio, Linda Pritchard of Topeka, Kan., Brenda Prizzino of Malvern, Ohio, and Cindy Pritchard of Topeka, Kan..
Mr. Mauldin is also survived by four grandchildren, Christa DiGerolamo, Melissa DiGerolamo, Jared Mauldin and Janna Mauldin. He is also survived by several brother- and sister-in-laws.
Private family graveside services will be held today, Feb. 21, 2000 at 2 p.m., Limestone Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 1005 West College Blvd., Suite B, Niceville, FL., 32578.

Addie "Penny" Dignen
Addie "Penny" Dignen, age 86, of Destin, Fla., died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, in a local hospital.
She was born on Feb. 27, 1913, in Memphis, Tenn.
After college, she enjoyed a career for many years as a professional runway model, both in Washington, D.C., and New York City. After retiring from modeling, she joined Mr. Dignen in many stations around the world as he served in the U.S. Air Force. Upon retirement in 1969, Mr. and Mrs. Dignen made Destin their home. Together in 1971 they opened the Holiday Inn and in 1973 the sky Host Inn (now Club Destin Resort) where they served as the innkeepers.
She enjoyed raising prize-winning roses, having one species named after her. Her special love and interest throughout her life was the care of animals. Mrs. Dignen was a former president of the National Aquarium Association in Albuquerque, N.M. She voluntarily gave generously of her time and resources to help organizations and preservation of animals.
Mrs. Dignen is survived by her beloved husband, Warren W. Dignen; and her loving dog, P.D.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today, Feb. 21, at McLaughlin Mortuary Chapel with Dr. Evan Bergwall officiating.
Burial will be in Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola, Fla., at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22.
The family extends their thanks to the nursing staff of 3 South, Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for their loving care and devotion to Mrs. Dignen during her illness.

Alan Barrett
Alan Barrett of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away at his home Feb. 21, 2000, after a short illness.
Born in Castle, Okla., on Dec. 12, 1931, Alan served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army and was a Korean War veteran. He came to Fort Walton Beach in 1963 and was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lorene; daughter, Laurie Barrett; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Colleen Barrett, all of Fort Walton Beach; sister, Dorothy Russ of Santa Cruz, Calif.; and brothers, Ralph Barrett of Lindsay, Okla., and Ray Barrett of Tucson, Ariz.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy be made in Alan's memory to St. Mary's Catholic Church, Fort Walton Beach; or to Hospice of Northwest Florida.
