Nell Watson Deaton
Nell Watson Deaton, age 76, of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in a local hospital after a brief illness.
She was a lifelong resident of Fort Walton Beach.
Nell was preceded in death by her parents, Todd and Vide Purvis of Florala, Ala.
She is survived by her twin daughters, Jane Frank and husband Wayne of Austin, Texas, and Joan Rogers and husband Bill of Fort Walton Beach. She is also survived by her sister, Ruth Talbot of Crestview; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation, 637 N. Beal, Suite B, Fort Walton Beach, FL 32548.
Emerald Coast Funeral Home, 113 Racetrack Road N.E., Fort Walton Beach, is in charge of arrangements.

Pearlie Mae Adams
Pearlie Mae Adams, age 77, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Monday afternoon, Sept. 18, 2000, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Adams was a native of Santa Rosa County, Fla., and had resided in Okaloosa County, Fla., most of her life. She was a homemaker; a member of Crestview Gospel Singers; and Westside Assembly of God.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Mike Adams and Willie Adams. Survivors include her sons and their wives, Manuel and Judy Adams of Tallahassee, Fla., Robert and Lorrie Adams of Holt, Fla., and Richard and Bobbie Adams of Crestview; daughters and their husbands, Ann and Bill Mello of Nags Head, N.C., Margaret and Wade Hilton of Crawfordville, Fla., and Laura and David Demara of Laurel Hill, Fla.; brother Willie D. Wilson of Pensacola; two sisters, Leoma Hatcher of Harold, Fla., and Thelma Davis of DeFuniak Springs, Fla.; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the chapel of Brackney Funeral Service with the Rev. Scott Adams officiating. Burial will follow in Holt Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Vernon Barton
Vernon Barton, age 67, of Baker, Fla., passed away Monday, Sept. 18, 2000.
Mr. Barton lived in Okaloosa County, Fla., for many years. Vernon was a member of Shockley Springs Church and an avid outdoorsman and fisherman.
Survivors include his wife, Wilma Barton of Baker; son and his wife, Allen and Debra Barton; sister and husband, Margaret and Buck Neese of Andalusia, Ala.; grandchildren, Andrea Barton, Jillian Barton, Brooke Barton and Carly Barton of Baker; four nephews; and a niece.
A time of visitation will be conducted from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Whitehurst Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery in Florala, Ala.

Terry R. Barton
Terry R. Barton, Colonel, USAF (retired), of Shalimar, Fla., died on Sept. 20, 2000.
He was born in Spokane, Wash. on March 2, 1917 and moved to this area in 1964.
He retired from the Air Force in 1968 with 25 years of active service and was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. His Air Force assignments included commander of the Air Force Instrument Pilot School, as an exchange officer with the Royal Air Force and Air Attach� in Baghdad, Iraq. At the time of his retirement he was DCS Operations of the Special Air Warfare Center at Eglin Air Force Base and Hurlburt Field.
In 1968, he joined Engel Mortgage Co., and later AmSouth Mortgage Co., where he served as vice president for almost 20 years. He was past officer/director of the American Ordnance Association, El Matador Condo Association, Okaloosa-Walton Homebuilders Association, Northwest Florida Retired Officers Club and the Fort Walton Beach Sailfish Club.
Col. Barton was a life member of the Elks Lodge 1795, Northwest Florida Retired Officers Club, Quiet Birdman, Air Commando Association, Florida Conservation Association, International Game and Fish Association and Air Force Association. He was also an active participant in the Gulf Coast Seniors Golf Association and was a member of Shalimar Pointe and Eglin golf clubs.
Col. Barton is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby L. Barton of Shalimar; one son, Terry L. Barton and daughter-in-law, Bonnie A. Barton of Albuquerque, N.M.; and one sister, Virginia Mengel of Bellvue, Wash.
Friends may call at McLaughlin Mortuary on Sunday, Sept. 24, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at McLaughlin Mortuary on Monday, Sept. 25, at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Scott Jobe officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Beal Memorial Cemetery in Fort Walton Beach.
Flowers are appreciated, or donations may be made in Col. Barton's memory to the Northwest Florida Retired Officers Scholarship Fund: NWFROC Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 310, Fort Walton Beach, Fla., 32549-310.

Donald S. Leeds
Donald S. Leeds, age 89, of Destin, Fla., died Sunday, Sept. 17, 2000, in a local hospital.
He was born in Youngstown, Ohio, on Oct. 19, 1910, and was a retired chief clerk with HARSCO (Harrisburg Steel Corp.) in Harrisburg, Pa., and was a member of United Methodist Church.
Mr. Leeds was preceded in death by his wife, Clara G. Leeds; and son, Donald C. Leeds.
Survivors include his son, Dr. Robert S. Leeds of Monument, Colo.; daughter, Linda Leeds Delarm of Pasco, Wash.; grandchildren, Donald C. Leeds Jr. of San Diego, David Leeds of Merchanisburg, Pa., Daniel Leeds of Evans, Ga., Kathleen Leeds Crosby of Mary Esther, Fla., Kimberly Leeds Klaus of The Woodlands, Texas, Capt. Robert S. Leeds Jr. of Valdosta, Ga., Deborah Donmoyer Blunck of Ranier, Wash., Dale Donmoyer of Yuma, Ariz., and Thomas Donmoyer of Kennewick, Wash.; and 16 great-grandchildren.
At his death, Mr. Leeds' request was that his remains be cremated. A memorial service will be conducted at a later date.

G.M. Edge
G.M. "Marion" Edge, age 93, of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2000, in a local hospital.
He was a native of Crestview, Fla., and lived in DeFuniak Springs for over 40 years. Mr. Edge was employed by the L&N Railroad from the age of 19 until his retirement at 65 as a section foreman. He was an active member and deacon in the First Baptist Church of DeFuniak Springs.
He served as secret-ary/treasurer of the Brother-hood of Maintenance Way of Employee Lodge and was a member of The Woodmen of the World Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his daughter and son-in-law, Geraldine and Lewis Frank Cawthon Jr.
Survivors include his wife of 73 years, Loris O. Edge and daughter, Carolyn Mora, both of DeFuniak Springs; sisters-in-law, Myrtle Hardy and husband Elbie of DeFuniak Springs, Evelyn Kingry and son Wyatt of Panama City, Fla., and Sybil Williams and children Sharon and Marilyn of Dothan, Ala.; niece, Edwina Bagget and husband Emerson and children; Joann and W.A. of Crestview; nephews, Billy Chestnut and wife Betty and daughter Katrina of Crestview, James Chestnut and wife Sheryl and children of Holt, Fla., and Ron Kelley of DeFuniak Springs; grandchildren, Jennifer Wilkerson and husband Wesley of Seagrove Beach, Fla., Duane Mora and wife Debbie of Sparta, N.J., Dean Mora and wife Michelle of Pittsburgh, Randy Wood and wife Janice of Cantonment, Fla., and Diana Benkoczy and husband Russell of Apopka, Fla. Ten great-grandchildren also survive: Jessica and Miranda Wilkerson of Seagrove Beach, Fla., Brett, Stephanie and Carley Mora of Sparta, N.J., Nicholas and Samantha Mora of Pittsburgh, Amber and Taylor Hozey, and Jeffrey Rouse of Pensacola, Fla.
A time of visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Comander Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, in the chapel of Comander Funeral Home with Dr. Robert Jay officiating.
Burial will follow in Magnolia Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Duane Mora, Dean Mora, Randy Wood, Wesley Wilkerson, Ron Kelley and Bruce Rhodes. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Men's Bible Class of First Baptist Church.

Emma Lee Grove
Emma Lee Peters Strickland Scarbrough Grove, age 87, passed away Sept. 19, 2000.
She was born in Samson, Ala., and moved to Baker, Fla., in 1937. Mrs. Grove was a member of Assembly of God Church and retired as a shoe shop owner.
Emma Lee and her husband, "Strick" Strickland, ran the Electric Shoe Repair Shop on Main Street for 14 years. She was very active in representing the citizens of Crestview at the City Council meetings. The city had a seat specially reserved for her. She also received many recognitions for her devotion to the city.
Emma Grove was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin T. and Leorna Adams; and her husbands, Edgar E. Peters, Edward L. Strickland, and Charlie T. Scarbrough.
She is survived by her husband, Lester Grove; son, Edgar Lee Peters; daughters, Betty Jean Peters Travers and Jessie Jeanette Strickland Cartwright; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
A time of visitation will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at Whitehurst Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23, with the Rev. Ray Wilson officiating. Burial will follow in Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery.
Whitehurst Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Christine V. King
Christine V. King, age 52, of Niceville, Fla., died Monday, Sept. 18, 2000, in a local hospital.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 17, 1948, and was a school bus driver's aide with the Okaloosa County school system.
Survivors include her son, Anthony Michael Buscarello of Mary Esther, Fla.; daughter, Kristin Marie Smith of Ware Shoals, S.C.; mother, Paula Lucky of New Mexico; Christine's fianc�e, Thomas Chappell Jr. of Niceville; brothers, Dennis Lucky of Pennsylvania, Joey Lucky and Paul Lucky of New York; and sister, Karen Lucky of New Mexico.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at First Assembly of God Church in Niceville. A visitation will be held at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. Burial will be in Heritage Gardens Cemetery, Niceville.

Darline Bingham
Darline Bingham, age 69, of Kilgore, Texas, died Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2000, at her home.
She was born on Dec. 26, 1930, in Humble, Texas, to Ted and Polly Cashion. She attended public schools in White Oak, where she was a cheerleader, and graduated from White Oak High School.
She moved to Tyler, Texas, where she lived until moving to Kilgore in 1989. Ms. Bingham was a Baptist.
She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and David Ray of Tyler, Dena and Tommy Marberry of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Polly and Larry Richardson of Kilgore; brother, Ted Cashion of Highlands, Texas; grandchildren, Dee Dee Marberry of Fort Walton Beach, Lisa Ring of Fort Walton Beach, Kirk Ray of Tyler, Adam Richardson of Kilgore, Jennifer Hilton of Tyler, and Clay Richardson of Kilgore; great-grandchildren, Josh Marberry, Brittany Ring and Brandon Ring, all of Fort Walton Beach, Amber Hilton of Tyler, and Dylan Richardson of Kilgore; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louie Bingham; and her brother, David Cashion.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Funeral services will be conducted at Radar Funeral Home Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, with the Rev. David Hampton officiating. Burial will follow in White Oak Cemetery.

Richard Loftin
Richard Loftin, age 72, of Crestview, Fla., passed away Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 20, 2000.
He was a native of Rome, Ga., and lived in Crestview since 1993. Mr. Loftin was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Laura and Bob Jones of Crestview, and Janet Henson of Elizabethtown, Ky.; sister, Betty Anthony of Greenville, S.C.; grandchildren, Ryan Jones and Emily Jones, and Alex Henson and Devin Henson; two nieces; and a nephew.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church Christ Chapel with the Rev. Jerry May officiating.
Flowers are appreciated, or contributions may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida.
