Bernard J. Manderine, Sr.
Bernard J. Manderine, Sr., age 74, of Minerva, died Thursday afternoon in Aultman Hospital. Born April 23, 1927, in Fulton Run, PA, to the late Manual and Concetta Manderine. He was a member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Minerva, was a World War II Army veteran, a former member of the K of C, a member of F.O.E. #2199, VFW Post #4120 and the American Legion Post #375. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Beagle Club for 53 years, the Stark Beagle Club, the Attwood Beagle Club. He retired from Hercules Engine after 50 years of service. Preceded in death by four brothers, James, Anthony, Louis and Joseph Manderine. Survivors include his wife, Donna Hand Manderine with whom he celebrated 53 years of marriage; one son, Bernie Manderine of Clearwater, FL; three daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Joe Zeidrich of Minerva; twin daughters, Annette and Elek Lukes of Green and Lynette and Chuck Blackburn of Canton; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five sisters and brother-in-law, Carmela DiGiacomo, Ann Gerber, Theresa Leasure, Rose Meyer, Catherine and John Sepich; and one brother, Sam Manderine. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Minerva, with Fr. John Michael Campbell as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Calling hours in the Reed Funeral Home Tuesday 6-9 p.m. The funeral procession will form at St. Gabriel Catholic Church on Wednesday morning.

C. Rudolph Comer, age 78, died May 26, 2001. Born in Gallipolis, OH., he had lived in the Akron area over 60 years. A member of the Eagles, Sportsman and Moose Clubs, he was a retired truck driver. Preceded in death by his sisters, Freta and Agnus; and brother, Cecil. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean; sons, Randall, Ronald and Rodney (Shannon) Comer; grandchildren, Rudy and Derel Comer, Trey Taylor and Jacob Comer. D. Earle Downs, age 54, of New Philadelphia, OH., passed away Saturday May 26, 2001 in Union Hospital in Dover, OH. He was born September 14, 1946 in Cleveland, OH. He is preceded in death by his father, Edward M. Downs Sr.; and a sister, Peggy A. Carpenter. He was a Pipeline Construction for three yrs at Pennsylvania Heavy and Highway Contracting. He was survived by a daughter, Kelly F. Downs of College Staton, TX; three brothers, Edward M. (Sharon) Downs Jr. of Taylorville, IN., Tom (Ellyn) Downs of Rod Chester Hills, MI., Michael J. Donna Miller, age 50, of Hartville, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, May 26, 2001 in her residence. She was born August 6, 1950 to George and Dorothy ( Knopp) August. Donna graduated from Lake High School in 1968 and has been a lifetime area resident. She was an office assistant for Family Medicine of Stark County Inc. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 33 years, Donald Miller, a daughter and son-in-law Angela and Aaron Williams of Canton; son and daughter-in-law Todd and Bridget Miller of Hartville; sister Tammy Fisher of Uniontown; brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Mary August of Greentown; two grandchildren, Julie and Jacob Williams and her mother-in-law Sara Miller and many nieces and nephews. Francis Parker
Francis Bryan Parker, age 67, of Canton, went home to be with his Lord and Savior early Saturday morning from his home. Born August 15, 1933 in Countsville, WV., to the late Lonnie and Mary Parker. He was a member of Faith Fellowship Chapel where he used his carpentry skills to do the finish work at the church. A U.S. Army Veteran having Guard during the Eisenhower Administration. he was a member of Eagles Lodge #141 and was retired from U.S. Steel after 30 years of service. Preceded in death by one brother, Jennings Parker; and one sister, Sybill Beaty. Survivors include his wife, Nancy L. (Kish) Parker of the home with whom he celebrated 41 years of marriage; and four sisters and brothers-in-law, Darlene Harper of Canton, Hazel Hays of Columbus, Mildred and Ed Reed of Belpre, OH., Lucille and Russell Kirby of Mineral Wells, WV. There are two very dear nieces, Reva Reed of Uniontown, OH., Natalie (Banta) Steed of Ashtabula, OH; several additional nieces and nephews also surviving. Howard R. Miller Sr
Howard R. Miller Sr., age 70, went home to be with the Lord after an eight-month battle with Pancreatic Cancer May 27, 2001. Born in Hartville, Mr. Miller was a lifelong resident of the area and was a member of Maple Grove Mennonite Church. During his lifetime, Mr. Miller began numerous businesses which include, Hartville Auction, Hartville Kitchen Restaurant, Hartville Flea Market, Hartville True Value Hardware, Hartville Antiques, Hartville Collectibles, Hartville Tool, Hartville Fuel Express, and the Hartville Kitchen Salad Dressing. He is survived by his wife, Sarah M., whom he married December 10, 1950, just recently celebrating 50 years of marriage; children, Carol Jean and Vernon Sommers, Howard Ray Jr. and Marsha, Wayne Allen and Kim, Ruby Kay and Rich Witmer, Nancy Ann and Marion Coblentz, and Marlene Sue and Blaine Miller; 20 grandchildren who were very special to him, Scott, Gary and Charla, Jill and Jade, Amy, Christa, Karen, Zachary, Emily, Mary, Seth, Howard Ray III, Jared, Heather, Eric, Janelle, Cody, Logan, J.J., Morgan, and DeShawna; brother, Harold and JoAnne; sisters, Alice and (Mel) Sommers, Esther and Leroy Yoder, and Mabel Campbell. Canton; grandchildren, Derek Degenhard, Jason Degenhard, Jarrod and Tricia Degenhard, Jennifer Magnani and Shad Magnani; great grandchildren, Rocco and Trent Degenhard, and Lexi and Michael Degenhard. John B. Frease
John B. (Jack) Frease, age 65, of Canton, died Saturday in Aultman Hospital after an extended illness. A life resident of Canton. He was a graduate of Case Institute of Technology and the Western Reserve School of Law. He was a retired patent attorney with the law firm of Frease and Bishop. Jack was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, A.A., and was an Air Force Veteran. Survived by his wife, Clare C. Frease; three sons, John B. Frease Jr of New Lexington, OH., Michael J. Frease of the home, and Patrick J. Frease of Cincinnati; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Frease; his parents, Joseph and Margaret Bebb Frease; and a sister, Sally West. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in St. Michael's Catholic Church. Lyda E. Derwacter
Lyda E. (Parker) Derwacter, age 74, of Canton passed away Friday morning in the McKinley Healthcare Center following an extended illness. Born in Canton on January 19, 1927 to her parents, the late Glenn and Florence (Monroe) Parker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilber Derwacter Sr. in 1975; and one brother, Charles Parker. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Wilber Jr. and Kathryn Derwacter of New Philadelphia, John and Cynthia Derwacter of Canton; four daughters and son-in-law, Glenda Derwacter, Tamazan Newberry, Rebecca Halter, and Florence and Harold Barremore all of Canton; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Ivan and Ruth Parker of North Canton, Jerry and Elsie Bennett of Canton, Dick and Diane Bennett of Kansas; one sister, Jane Morris of Illinois; there are 17 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews also surviving. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Troy Bannister officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Mary Anna Czekansky, age 90, of Canton, passed away Saturday May 26, 2001, at Hanover House after a brief illness. She came to the United States from Wierzborven, Poland in 1927. She was a member of All Saints Catholic Church for over 70 years. preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; a son, Eugene; and parents, Michal and Mary Czerwinski. Survived by three sons, Joe (Marianna) of Perry Twp, Edward (Elaine) of North Canton, Walter (Cora) of Massillon; nine loving grandchildren; 14 loving great-grandchildren; two sisters, Stella Chamczuk at St. Joseph's Care Center of Louisville, Blanche Rostonski of Canton; a brother, Wallace (Betty) Czerwinski of Pacifica, CA; many loving nieces and nephews. Mary Cavalier
Mary Cavalier, age 86, of North Canton, went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Clarksburg, VA and lived most of her live in this area. She was member of Little Flower Church, Altar Rosary Society and Ben V. Marcomi Sons of Italy Lodge # 1628. Mary was a homemaker her entire life and loved cooking, baking, crocheting knitting, gardening, working cross word puzzles and playing scrabble. She loved to be surrounded by her family and was happiest when she was cooking dinner for them. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Kathryn Benik; sister, Rose Degiralomo. She is survived by her loving husband, John, they were married 61 years ago at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Canton; two daughters and son-in-law, Katie Cavalier of Canton, Cynthia and Jerry Falkenstein of Stow; three sons-and daughters-in-law, John Jr. and Pat Cavalier of bay Village, David and Beth Cavalier of North Canton, Kevin and Susie Cavalier of Green; eight grandchildren; and one great grandchild; four brothers, Nick Benik of North Canton, John and Dan Benik of Columbus, Mike Benik of California; one sister, Ann Spitz of California. Rev. David Frederick
Rev. David C. Frederick, passed away at his home in Mt. Vernon, OH Friday May 25, 2001 after a five month battle with cancer. Rev. Frederick is the son of the late, Richard L. and Henrietta C. Frederick of Canton, OH. Rev Frederick was ordained into the ministry of Word and Sacrament of the Presbyterian Church (USA) on June 8, 1975 at Christ Presbyterian Church, Canton, OH. He is a graduate of Glenwood High School, Ohio University, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and Dubuque Theological Seminary. He served churches in Beaverton, MI., Yorkville, IL., Cleveland, OH., and Youngstown, OH. During the last 5 1/2 years he had served as an Interim Pastor in New Castle, PA., Canton, OH., Sebring, OH., and Seville, OH. During his ministry he had served on the boards of directors of Special Olympics in Illinois, Goodrich-Gannett Neighborhood House in Cleveland, OH and the Staunton Farm Foundation in Pittsburgh, PA. Rev. Frederick is survived by his wife of 34 years, Kathleen (Caldwell); two sons, Eric D. of Murray, KY., Russell L. of Nashville, TN; one daughter, Jennifer Boucher of Upper Sandusky, OH; two grandsons; one brother, Richard L. Jr. of Prospect, KY; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Thursday May 31, at Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton with Rev. Hugh Berry officiating.
