Paul Martino
Paul Martino, age 92, passed away on May 26, 2001 in Weston, FL. He was born in Tocco, DeCasauria, Italy, on October 1, 1908. He crossed the Atlantic Ocean with his parents, Emedio and Josephine Martino, at the age of four. He was raised in Canton, OH, where he met and married his wife of 57 years, Angeline Diorio, who preceded him in death. He was a lineman for the Roller Bearing Division of the Timken Co. for 40 years. Upon retirement, he and Angeline moved to Massillon, OH, in 1970, ultimately residing in Weston, FL, in 1986. Paul Martino was a devoted husband, proud father, tireless worker for his family and a genuinely kind man. He will always be in our hearts. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Josephine and Andrew Lokie of Weston, FL, and Ann Marie and Jerry McConnell of Glencove, AL; nine grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, Joseph and Daniel Martino of Canton; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Church with Fr. Timothy Huffman as celebrant. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Robert F. Hutchison
Robert F. Hutchison, age 61, of Canton, OH, passed away Wednesday evening in Aultman Hospital following a brief illness. Born in Canton on January 19, 1940, he was a retired employee of Republic Engineered Steel, retiring in 1998 after 34 years of service. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his parents, William Cecil and Leah Hutchison. Survivors include his wife, Victoria Hutchison of the home; his son and daughter from a previous marriage, Barbie Jo Wright and Robert F. Hutchison, Jr., both of Canton; brother, William C. Hut-chison, Jr. of Mississippi; four sisters, Jeanette Davidson, Dorothy Corregan, Bonnie Bartsch and Paulette Dalpra, all of Canton; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Reed Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Williams officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Hills Memory Gardens. William B. Friel Sr.
William B. Friel, Sr., age 76, of Louisville, passed away May 28, 2001 in Mercy Medical Center following a recent illness. Bill was born October 31, 1924 in Louisville and was the son of the late John and Lillian (Rockwell) Friel. Bill was an Army veteran of WWII. He was a former Shipping and Receiving Coordinator for Timken Research, retiring after 38 years of service. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Louisville Council where he was a 4th Degree member of the Msgr. Graham Assembly, and was a Past Grand Knight. Bill leaves behind his four daughters, Terra Dilley of Fredricktown, OH, Beverly Driggers of Charlotte, NC., Roseanne Baugh of Southlake, TX., and Loraine Burns of Canton; his son, William Friel Jr. of Akron; seven grandchildren, Justin Dilley, Erin Dilley, Zachary Baugh, Kyle Baugh, Rachel Burns, Cassandra Burns and Adrienne Burns; and a sister, Margaret Barnhart of Canton. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Friel who died March 17, 1993; three sisters, Rose Schroeter, Catherine Keller and Esther Taylor; his brother, John Friel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday June 4, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Louis Catholic Church in Louisville with Rev. Fr. Donald Oser as celebrant. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Anna C. Hall, age 86, formerly of Hartville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Friday Night, June 1, 2001 in St. Luke Lutheran Home. She was born in Kentucky on December 11, 1914. She had worked for F. E. Schumacher Co. Anna attended North Canton Church of Christ and was a charter member of Hartville Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carlos in 1987; son, Carlos in 1985; and granddaughter, Tracey Lynn Hall Knowles in 1999. She is survived by her two daughters and sons-in-law, Julia and Donald Fearon of North Canton, and Patsy and Harlan Whitaker of New York; ten Grandchildren; 16 Great-grandchildren; and two Great-great-grandchildren. Catherine R. McDonnell, age 66, a resident of Philadelphia, PA, passed away Saturday morning in Aultman Hospital in Canton, OH, following an extended illness. Born in Wilmington, DE on August 28, 1934, she had lived the greater portion of her life in Wilmington and Philadelphia, PA. She was a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School in Wilmington, was a former employee of the DuPont Co. in Wilmington, and a retired employee for the City of Philadelphia, retiring in 1998 after 15 years of service. She was of Catholic faith. Preceded in death by her parents, Bernard and Catherine McDonnell and a son, Rick Stanley, who passed away in 1998. Survivors include two sons, Mark Stanley and James Stanley, both of Canton, OH and daughter, Patricia Stanley of Columbus, OH; two sisters, Patricia Davis of Wilmington, DE and Eileen Reese of Lakeside, AZ; a brother, Bernard McDonnell of Jupiter, FL. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Hope and Stanley Phillips and Vicky and Jerry Aldridge, Sr., all of Canton; two brothers, Coy and Tim Mitchell and sisters, Ruby Smith and Betty Jean Murry, all of Hattiesburg, MS; grandchildren, Lorrie Mariani, Jerry Aldridge, Jr., Ryan and Amy Phillips; great-grandchildren, Sarah and Emily Mariani, Ryan, Samantha, Richard and Elizabeth Phillips. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Reinwald in 1995; a brother, John D. Mitchell and a sister, Jo Manes. He loved camping and being outdoors, remote model airplanes and was a tinkerer who was always working on something. George was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Wanda Thomas; son, Samuel; and brothers, Phil and Dale. Mabel W. Moore, age 90, of Chapel Hill Community, passed away Saturday morning June 2, 2001. She was born in Sumerset, OH on May 11, 1911 to John W. and Anna (Hummel) Wilson and was a former owner of Wadsworth Testing Laboratory of Canton with her late husband, Nils E. Moore. She was a charter member of Church of the Lakes United Methodist. Preceded in death by her husband, Nils E. Moore in 1977 and a brother, Willard H. Wilson. Survived by a sister-in-law, Carrie Wilson of Michigan; and close friends including Martha Brannon of Canton. Norma M. (Schwing) Panzarelle, age 78, of Bedford Hts., died May 13 [2001] at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Hts. She was born in Canton, OH. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony; dearest sister of Charles and his wife, Teresa Schwing of Canton and the late Edward and his wife, Jean. Survived by many nieces and nephews. She was the retired secretary of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Bedford Hts., OH where she was selected Volunteer of the Year in 1997. Funeral services were held May 16 at Holy Trinity Church. Russell H. Bethel
Russell H. Bethel, 83, of Olde Pump St., Walnut Creek, and formerly of Canal Fulton, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001, at Walnut Hills Nursing Home at Walnut Creek following a battle with progressive supranuclear palsy. He was born December 3, 1917, in Greenville, Ohio to the late Howard and Lydia Starret Bethel. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Kent State University. He served 3 1/2 years with the U.S. Army during World War II. He began his 36 years in education as a teacher and then as a Superintendent of the New Lyme/Demming Local Schools in New Lyme, Ohio. He then became Superintendent of the Beach City Schools in Beach City, Ohio; then he went to work at Stark County Board of Education as a high school supervisor. In 1978 he retired as the Superintendent of Northwest Local Schools in Canal Fulton and Clinton, Ohio. After retiring, he was an interim Superintendent of Marlington and Fairless High Schools, and a member of the Canal Fulton City Council. He was a member of the Ohio Assn. of Local Supt., Buckeye Assn. of School Administrators, the Ohio School Boards Assn. and the American Assn. of School Administrators. He was a member of the Rotary Club at Canal Fulton and a member of the Millersburg United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Grace (Day) Bethel; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Susan) Learmonth of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Ted (Julie) Purcell of Durham, North Carolina, Mrs. Michael (Sally) Murphy of Akron; two sisters, Joy Bethel of Shelby and Mae Bethel of Ashtabula; six grandchildren, Michael Learmonth, Amy Learmonth, Tim Learmonth, Ted Forringer, Dan Forringer, Ryan Murphy. Preceded by two sons, Russell and Robert; two brothers, Walter and Emery. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 9, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Millersburg United Methodist Church, with Dr. Karl Stonebraker officiating. Russell D. Walker, Sr., age 79, of Louisville, passed away at his home Saturday, June 2, 2001. He was born in Louisville, OH, February 20, 1922 to the late Donald and Della (Oyster) Walker. He was the owner of J R Electric Inc. which he founded in 1959. He was raised in the First Brethren Church in Louisville and was a 50 year member of the Nimishillen Grange and a former member of the Nimishillen Ruritans. He was affiliated with the I.B.E.W. Local #540 and the National Electrical Contractors Association. He was an avid boater at Lake Erie and spent his winters in Clearwater, FL. Russell was a World War II Navy veteran. He was preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Petty. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Hill) Walker; a daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Charles Geiger of Lakewood, OH; a son and daughter-in-law, Don and Dianne Walker of Louisville; three brothers, Dr. Harold Walker of Navarre, Robert Walker of Louisville and Richard Walker of Nokomis, FL; six grandchildren, Jennifer, Elizabeth, Meredith, Charley, Christy and Doug. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in the First Brethren Church of Louisville with Rev. James Koontz officiating.
