Raymond E. Burden
VIRGINIA BEACH - Raymond Eugene “Twine” Burden, 58, of the 700 block of Prospect Court, peacefully entered God’s rest while surrounded by his family Aug. 22, 2007.
He was a native of Norfolk and was the husband of Gwendolyn Burden, father of Tiante Burden (Aisha) and Tameika Burden and grandfather of Aishia and Amaziye’ Mills.
He retired from ILA Local 1458 after 30 years of service. He was predeceased by his mother, Marie Barrett; father, Raymond Ross; and sister, Deborah Burden.
In addition to his immediate family, Mr. Burden is survived by three sisters, Eva Swan, Vanessa Lassiter and Beverly Brown (Brent); three brothers, Michael Burden, Wayne Burden (Juanita) and Tony Burden (Deneen); one aunt, Isabell Green; one uncle, Lester Burden; as well as a host of brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral will be held at noon Tuesday in the chapel of Graves Funeral Home, 1631 Church St., Norfolk, VA 23504. Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6309 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk.

Dewey W. Frazier
VIRGINIA BEACH - Dewey William Frazier, 65, passed away Aug. 24, 2007, in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loving family. Born June 1, 1942, in Bennettsville, S.C., Mr. Frazier, a Vietnam veteran, retired from the U.S. Navy as a chief petty officer with more than 23 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3160 where he was the past post commander from 1989-1990. Recently retired from LTM Inc., Dewey will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be deeply missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Marie Frazier; two daughters, Sandra Smith and husband Ray and Jill Frazier; a grandson, Ray G. Smith, all of Virginia Beach; and a brother, Robert Frazier, of Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eulalia Clark and Julian Owen; and a twin brother, Huey Frazier.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Rosewood Memorial Park. Elizabeth Howlett Jarvis
VIRGINIA BEACH - Elizabeth Howlett Jarvis, 95, slipped into eternity Aug., 24, 2007, surrounded by her family.
She was born and raised in the Atlantic City section of Norfolk to the late Laura Wilkins and John Richard Howlett.
Her husband, Herbert C. Jarvis and son, Herbert M. Jarvis preceded her in death.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn J. Callis and her husband Harry and Elizabeth J. Collins and her husband Clarence, all of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Linda and Wayne Bailey of Ormond Beach, Fla., Kathy and Allen Talbott of Woodstock, Ga., Laura and Ken Condron of Panama City Beach, Fla., and Debbie and Chris Rayburn of Chesapeake; seven great-grandchildren, Tara, Ashley, Melanie, Katie, Emily, Kimberly and Lindsey.
She will be remembered for her love of humor and contagious laugh. She was a proud Virginian, a devout Methodist and a member of Colonial Avenue United Methodist Church.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Daniel Crabtree and his staff for their compassionate care of our Mom. We also would like to thank Liza and Dan Bayangos for their excellent care of our Mom for the last four months.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery by the Rev. Kelly Burris. The family will have a visitation in Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5792 Greenwich Road, Monday from 7 to 9 p.m.

Ryland J. Lavelle
VIRGINIA BEACH - God called home his angel, baby Ryland Joseph Lavelle, on the morning of Aug. 23, 2007. Ryland, only with us for three short weeks, was born Aug. 3, 2007. He lives on in the memory of his parents, Michael Joseph Lavelle and Christina JoAnne Lavelle; his brother, Bryson Michael-Dorian Lavelle; as well as his aunts and uncles, Michael and Jackie Erickson and Samantha and Michael Horvath.
A funeral for Ryland will be held in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Bayside Chapel, at 11 a.m. Monday. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. Margaret H. Leinbach
VIRGINIA BEACH - Margaret H. “Trudy” Leinbach, 87, died peacefully Aug. 22, 2007.
She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her tireless service and dedication to the American Legion is legendary. Her life of service began as a member of the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II. Throughout the years, Trudy volunteered hundreds of hours at the VA Hospital in Hampton, the Red Cross, the American Legion’s Boys State and National Oratorical Contest. Trudy was the first female Voyageur of Voiture86. She served the Second District of Virginia in many positions including district commander, post commander and adjutant always faithful to her duty to God and country.
As she joins “Post Everlasting,” she is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Vic and Terrie Shunkwiler of Virginia Beach; her daughter and son-in-law, Paula and David Snow of Delaware; her sister, Katherine Connolly of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted Monday at 10 a.m. by the Rev. Mr. Darrell Wentworth in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Avenue of Flags, Norfolk. Alice M. Barcroft
CHESAPEAKE - Alice M. Barcroft, 89, of the 900 block of Indian Creek Road, died Aug. 25, 2007.
She was born in Norfolk County and was preceded in death by her husband, John W. Barcroft; and a son, James M. Barcroft. Alice retired as a social worker from Chesapeake Social Services and was a member of Cedar Road Assembly of God.
Alice is survived by her daughter, Charlotta Bright and husband Danny of Chesapeake; seven grandchildren, Babette Vick of Currituck, N.C., Sabrina Bright of Chesapeake, Tonya Doebler and husband Sven of Virginia Beach, Dawn McDaniel and husband Bruce of Norfolk, Derrick Barcroft and wife Crystal of Currituck, Brian Barcroft and wife Kimberly of Tennessee and Richard Harris of Norfolk; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Cedar Road Assembly of God by the Rev. Ben Bonnici and the Rev. Scott Pollard. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, Tuesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Dorothy Moore
NORFOLK - Dorothy Moore, 87, of the 1100 block of Louisa St., passed away Aug. 24, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. She was born Feb. 26, 1920, in Greene County, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband, Johnny Those left to cherish her memory are one son, Donnise Moore of Fort Worth, Texas; one sister, Mary Wood of Norfolk; two brothers, Milton Williams of Newark, N.J., and Troy Williams of Washington, D.C.; and three grandchildren. She will also be greatly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 525 Dinwiddie St. Interment will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Family and friends will assemble at 1105 Louisa St., one hour prior to service for procession to the church. Metropolitan Funeral Service, Granby Street, is in charge.

Ida Jennette
VIRGINIA BEACH - Ida Ward Hutten Jennette, of the 900 block of Hillview Blvd., died Aug. 25, 2007, in a local hospital.
Mrs. Jennette was born in Bertie County, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Elnora and Jordan Ward. Mrs. Jennette was a longtime member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church, where she had served in several committees having been president of the Women’s Fellowship. Mrs. Jennette attended Norfolk Business College and then graduated from Norfolk General Hospital as a registered nurse. She retired from C&P Telephone Co. after 29 years as an occupational health nurse.
She was an active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Norfolk General Alumni Association, Homestead Women’s Club and the Monticello Charter Chapter of the American Business Woman’s Association. She was a former member of the American Association of Occupational Health Nurses: Virginia State Association and the local Tidewater Chapter.
Mrs. Jennette is survived by her two sons, Henry James Hutten Jr. and wife Patricia and Robert Ward Hutten and wife Joan. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Miranda, Ben and Hank Hutten; two stepchildren, William Jennette and wife Judy and Linda Donahue; and five step-grandchildren. She is also survived by four sisters, Elsie Shotton and Magnolia Hicks of Suffolk, Gwendolyn Phelps and husband Bill of Plymouth, N.C., and Nora Ward Harris of Wilson, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews. She was the widow of Henry James Hutten and Harry M. Jennette.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Eastminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Zavadil officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Memorial Park. Helen W. Perry
VIRGINIA BEACH - Helen Louise Woo Perry, 89, beloved mother, grandmother and greatgrandmother, went to be with the Lord Aug. 25, 2007.
A native of Norfolk, she was born June 29, 1918, to the late Thomas and Carolyn Woo. Helen was a member of First Baptist Church of Virginia Beach. She enjoyed traveling, photography, the beach and especially her grandchildren. Helen was predeceased by her loving husband of 37 years, James E. Perry Sr.
Left to cherish her memory are three children, James E. Perry Jr. and wife Beth and Michael Perry and wife Helen, all of Norfolk and Susan Brewer of Chesapeake; brother, Phillip Woo and wife Doshie of Virginia Beach; sister, Lucille Morich and husband Harold of New York; six grandchildren, James Dean Perry, Christopher Perry and wife Angel, Michael Perry, Angela McComsey and husband Dwyre, Darrell Brewer Jr., and Nicholas Brewer and wife Heather; and eight great-grandchildren

Ina Rae V. Maples
CHESAPEAKE - Ina Rae Veazey Maples of the 700 block of Greenwing Drive, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away Aug. 26, 2007.
Mrs. Maples was born in Norfolk, May 2, 1924, the daughter of the late Stanley and Irma Veazey. Ina Rae received special permission to attend Granby High School where she was part of the Granby Trio. The Granby Trio traveled and competed during high school and received numerous awards and honors. Ina Rae married Lyle W. Maples on June 28, 1941. Lyle was employed with C&P Telephone Co. until his death. An active member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, Ina Rae loved music and was an accomplished musician playing the piano. Ina Rae adored her two grandchildren and was always there with love and support for them.
Mrs. Maples is survived by two sons, Larry M. Maples and wife Sharon and Mark W. Maples and wife Debra. Also she is survived by two grandchildren, Christian Lyle Maples and Michelle Nicole Maples. The family would like to acknowledge the loving care given to Ina Rae by Debra Maples, who cared for her in the last several years of her life.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday in Riverside Cemetery in Norfolk at 11 a.m. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Chesapeake Chapel, is handling arrangements. The family will welcome friends and family at the home of Mark and Debra Maples after the graveside service is concluded.

Josephine A. Ratcliffe
CHESAPEAKE - Josephine Adams Ratcliffe, 78, of the 2200 block of Ferndale Road, died Aug. 27, 2007, in her residence. A native of Henderson, N.C., she was a self-employed bookkeeper and tax consultant and a member of the DAV Auxiliary Chapter No. 22.
Survivors include her husband, William T. Ratcliffe; one son, William T. Ratcliffe Jr. and wife Sharon of Baltimore; adopted daughter, Lita Bangal of Chesapeake; and two sisters, Evelyn Hieb of Raleigh, N.C., and Elizabeth Tissot of New Bern, N.C.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by DAV Chaplain Dan Funkhouser. Entombment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens.
