BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Carl W. Adams, 65, passed away Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Ridgecrest Manor Nursing Home in Duffield, Va.
A native of Wise County, Va., he lived in Lake County, Ohio, for many years and had resided in Big Stone Gap, Va., since 1991. He was a retired custodial supervisor with the Mentor (Ohio) Public School System. He was a member of the U.S. Army National Guard of Virginia.
He was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Willie E. Adams; and a brother, Echol E. Adams.
Surviving are his two daughters, Vicki Bennett and husband Randy, Thompson, Ohio, and Kim Adams-Thomas and husband James, Wickliffe, Ohio; five grandchildren and one stepgreat-grandchild; mother, Clara E. Adams, Big Stone Gap, Va.; three brothers, Frank Adams, Indianapolis, Ind., James Adams, Big Stone Gap, Va., David Adams, Johnson City; five sisters, June Wade, Indianapolis, Ind., Louise Sedam, Johnson City, Pat Bentley, Linda Scott and Darlene Blair, all of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating.
Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone Gap. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
Orville Glen Cox, 78, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Orville Glen Cox, 78, of 2212 Princeton Road, passed away Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
Mr. Cox was born in Kingsport and was a lifelong resident.
He was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church.
Mr. Cox was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Shipley.
Surviving are his wife, Juanita Curtis Cox, Kingsport; son-in-law, Larry Shipley, Kingsport; and grandson, Brandon Shipley, Kingsport; sisters, Madeline Johnston, Rome, Ga., and Cathleen Evans, Aberdeen, Md.; several nieces and nephews.

PINEY FLATS - Roy B. "R.B." Hudson, 78, 265 Haw Ridge Road, died Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
A native of Sullivan County, he was a son of the late Roy and Jennie Nichols Hudson. Mr. Hudson was an active member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Piney Flats, where he sang in the church choir and coached the St. Paul's softball team. He retired as supervisor from Tennessee Eastman after working for 41 years.
Mr. Hudson was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Malone Hudson, of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Jerry Cross, Piney Flats; one granddaughter, Nicole Cross, Piney Flats; two grandsons, Tyler Braxton Cross and Jordan Cross, both of Piney Flats; special godson, Josh King, Piney Flats; one sister, Virginia Flannagan, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Preston E. Kensler Sr., 93, of Abingdon, Va., died Sunday afternoon (Aug. 4, 2002) at the Johnston Memorial Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his father George Kensler, and mother Lucy Kensler Kent; one son, Preston E. Kensler Jr.; three sisters, Bonnie Fields, Hattie Mae Ramey and Emily Perry.
Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Kensler Boyd and her husband George of Kingsport; six grandchildren, Orville "Butch" Rhoton Jr. of Merced, Calif., Preston "Skip" Rhoton of Bermuda Dunes, Calif., Vincent J. Kensler of Lake Monticello, Va., Karen Timmons of Florence, S.C., Howard Hamilton of Kingsport, and Laura Hamilton of Reading, Pa.; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

BLOUNTVILLE - Mabel R. Smith Miles, 86, of 3878 Highway 126, died Monday (Aug. 5, 2002) at the Wellmont Hospice House.
Born April 17, 1916, the daughter of the late Erby and Mollie Smith, she was a lifelong resident of Bristol. She was a housewife and the widow of Hearl Miles.
She was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include her son, Larry Smith, Blountville; daughter-in-law, Becky Smith; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter; special friends, Salem and Judy Smith, Eyvonne Taylor; very special grandson, Derrick Bowman; very special great-great-granddaughter, Destiny Renea Faith Faulk; very special nephew, David Carter; several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Miller was born in Kingsport and had resided for several years in Detroit, Mich., before returning to Kingsport in 1990.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Cecil Holdway; second husband, James Miller.
Survivors include one daughter, Deborah Wade, and son-in-law, Rick Bradley, Bluff City; two sons and daughters-in-law, Donald (Don) Holdway and Stacey, Limestone, and Danny Holdway and Barbara, Eustis, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Sally Ketron, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Herbert D. Reasor, 75, passed away Sunday (Aug. 4, 2002) at Wellmont-Lonesome Pine Hospital.
He was a native of Lee County and Wise County, Va. He lived in Mount Carmel for 26 years before moving to Big Stone Gap. He was a retired middle school teacher with the Hawkins County, Tenn., School System, with 26 years of service. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Mount Carmel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Gibson Reason; and parents, Alexander Cass Reasor and Melissa B. Reasor.
Surviving are one daughter, Rebecca Cavin and husband Pat, Piney Flats; one son, Harold R. Reasor and wife Donna, Big Stone Gap; three grandsons, Matt Cavin, Piney Flats, Colby Reasor, Big Stone Gap, and Lucas Cavin, Piney Flats.

Born in Kingsport, he was a 1993 graduate of Sullivan Central High School. He resided Knoxville after graduation and later in Maryville. He was employed by Xpedx as a driver.
He was a member of Christus Victory Lutheran Church of Knoxville.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Brian Zimmerman; maternal grandparents, Gus and Tootsie White Jr.; paternal grandparents, Roy and Mary Jane Zimmerman.
Surviving are his wife, Geri Lee Zimmerman, Maryville; mother, Joan Dyson, Kingsport; father, R.L. Zimmerman and wife Joannie, Moorehead, N.C.; mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Carol Doyle, Knoxville; two brothers-in-law, Joe Doyle and Patrick Doyle and his fiancée Brandi Carnes; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special pets, Zeela and Hewey.
