JONESVILLE, Va. - Roy Anderson, 74, died Monday (June 17, 2002) at Lee Regional Medical Center, Pennington Gap, Va.
Born in Lee County, Va., he lived there most of his life and was a retired auto mechanic.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Anderson was of the Baptist faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milam and Lilly Miles Anderson; three brothers, Worden, Lawrence and Lloyd Anderson; two sisters, Frances Anderson and Estelle Anderson Neff; and one granddaughter, Holly Anderson.
Surviving are his sons, Bob Anderson and wife Shelia, Jonesville, Va., Roy Michael (Mike) Anderson and wife Betty, Dryden, Va., Jeff Anderson, Jonesville, Va., Richard Anderson and wife Tammy, Jonesville, Va., Ronald "Ron" Anderson and wife Konni, Jonesville, Va.; daughters, Elaine Brewer and husband Carl, Pennington Gap, Va., Sandra "Kay" Miller and husband Arthur, Jonesville, Va., and Kim M. Anderson, Jonesville, Va.; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; sister, Ola Anderson Greer, Jonesville, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at Ewing Cemetery, Jonesville, Va. Military rites will be conducted by Charles DeWitt Byrd Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kingsport.
Family and friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:30 a.m. to go to the cemetery.
Chris Brewer, Robert Brewer, Beryl Greer, Lawrence Greer, M.D. Anderson, Benny Anderson and Charles DeWitt Byrd Post Veterans of Foreign Wars of Kingsport will serve as pallbearers.
Province Funeral Home, Jonesville, Va., is serving the Anderson family.

Viola Burdine, 79, Kingsport.
Graveside services for Viola Burdine, 79, Kingsport, who left this home for her heavenly home to join God, family and friends when she passed away Sunday (June 16, 2002), will be at 1 p.m. today at Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joey Beason, Chuck Greene, Jeff Greene, Bob Greene, Jerry Duncan, Frank Duncan, Dennis Greene, Wayne Greene, Butch Burdine and Doyle Burdine.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the fight against Parkinson's disease.

Andrew J. Davis Jr., 70, Church Hill.
CHURCH HILL - Andrew J. Davis Jr., 70, 407 W. Main Blvd., died Friday (June 14, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
He was a member of Fisher's Creek Missionary Baptist Church and was retired from Tennessee Eastman as a mechanic.
Mr. Davis was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Johnson and Grace Hickman Davis Sr.; one sister, Mickey Williams; and brother, App Davis.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Helen Frost Davis, of the home; two daughters, Darlene Bruner and husband Leroy, Rogersville, Leslie Bruner and husband Gregory, Church Hill; four sons, Tommy Davis and wife Lois, Surgoinsville, Tony Davis and wife Karen, Church Hill, Michael Davis and wife Sandy, Greeneville, Jerry Davis and wife Valerie, Rogersville; one sister, Juanita Housewright, Rogersville; three brothers, Fred Davis, Rogersville, Bill Davis and George Davis, both of Mount Carmel; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Broome Funeral Home, Rogersville.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Lyle Housewright officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Highland Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brad Davis, Chad Davis, Benjamin Davis, Leroy Davis, Larry Davis and Greg Bruner.

James S. Dykes, 60, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - James Saxon Dykes, 60, went to be with the Lord Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.

Sam Eidson, 43, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Michael Samuel (Sam) Eidson, 43, died Wednesday morning (June 19, 2002) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on I-181.
Born in Baltimore, Md., he had lived in Kingsport most of his life. Sam was a carpenter and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
His mother, Ruby Morelock Eidson, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife, Kathy Walton Eidson, Kingsport; one daughter, Brandi Eidson, Kingsport; one son, Robert (Bob) Eidson, Kingsport; two stepsons, Lancey Ramsey, Kingsport, and Dustin Ramsey, Rogersville; his father and stepmother, Don and Geneva Eidson, Greeneville; three sisters, Kathy Langston, Columbia, S.C., Donna Marshall, Greeneville, and Lisa Rae, Houston, Tex.; one brother, Dennis Eidson, Ohio; and 3 stepbrothers, Monty Hale, Greeneville, Jack Hale and David Hale, both of Gray.
Calling hours are from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Wayne Morelock officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in Mountain Home National Cemetery.
Family members will serve as pallbearers.

EIDSON - Graveside services for Larry R. Gilliam, 45, who went to be with his heavenly Father Friday morning (June 14, 2002), will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Family Cemetery in Eidson (the Big Springs community of Hancock County, also known as Hurd and Edens Cemetery).

KINGSPORT - G. Fred Hawkins, 87, of Kingsport, died at 12 noon Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at his home. Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, downtown Kingsport.

Alsace Lorraine Loller, 79, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mrs. Alsace Lorraine Loller, 79, departed this life Tuesday (June 18, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center after an extended illness.
Mrs. Loller was born in Johnson City and spent most of her life in Kingsport. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher, supervisor of Buds of Promise and president of Stewardess Board and Lawson Club.
She was retired from Miller Department Store, Kingsport. She was a member of Daughter of Elks, American Legion Auxiliary and Daughter of Isaacs. She graduated from Douglass High School, Kingsport, and attended business college in Washington, D.C.
Mrs. Loller was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Charles (Lump) Alfred Loller II; father, Mr. Thomas Hill Cartwright; mother, Mrs. Eula Virginia (Fitzsimmons) Cartwright; five brothers, Mr. Timothy, Mr. Thomas Edward, Mr. Roy Spencer, Mr. Philip Arnold and Mr. Robert Louis Cartwright; and one sister, Mrs. Shirley (Cartwright) Gilmore.
Survivors include one son, Mr. Charles (Chuck) Alfred Loller III; two brothers, Mr. Johnny Cartwright, California, and Mr. Donnie Kinchloe (wife, Sherry), Kingsport; three sisters, Mrs. Emogene Hankins, Mrs. Eula Virginia Leeper, both of Kingsport, Mrs. Sylvia C. Bond (husband, Thomas), Sebring, Fla.; one devoted friend, Miss Mary Ricks; Aunt Harriet and Uncle Jessie Cartwright, New York; several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church, 812 Mapleoak Lane, Kingsport.
Friends may also call anytime at the residence of Mrs. Eula Leeper, 954 Dale Street, Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the church with the Rev. Dr. Felix K. Ofusu officiating.
Cortege will depart Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church at 10 a.m. Monday. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. Monday in the V.A. National Cemetery, Mountain Home, Tenn.

ROGERSVILLE - Eula Fields Manis, 73, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday (June 19, 2002) following a lengthy illness.
She was a member of Long Hollow Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle G. Manis; son, Doyle Manis Jr.; parents, Ed and Emma Fields; brother, Bob Fields; sister, Nellie Fields; and grandson, James H. Manis Jr.
Survivors include one son and four daughters: Jim and Marcia Manis, Linda and Tommy Parvin, Brenda and Jerry Seymore, Barbara and Scotty Graham, Regina and Lum Deal; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Earl Fields; sisters, Faye Barrett, Tilda Charles, Janie Trent, Virginia Hickman, Helen Manis; a special friend, George McPeak; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Christian-Sells Funeral Home in Rogersville.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Jerry Wayne Lawson and the Rev. Bill Brown officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Hawkins County Memorial Gardens.

Betty E. O'Quinn, 64, Lebanon, Va.
LEBANON, Va. - Betty E. O'Quinn, 64, operator of Betty's Fashions for the past 25 years, died Tuesday (June 18, 2002) at her home.
She was a member of the Lebanon Baptist Church, the Lebanon Lions Club and the Rotary. She was a daughter of the late Jack and Minnie Farmer of Davenport, Va., and was the widow of Kenneth O'Quinn.
Survivors include two daughters, Pat Yokum, Lebanon, and Becki Joyce, Pikeville, Ky.; five grandchildren, Dennis Rean Yokum, Dustin Yokum, Drew Joyce, Chelsea Joyce and Elijah Joyce; five brothers, Harold Farmer, Hazel Hurst, Miss., Arnold Farmer, Dayton, Ohio, Jack H. Farmer, New Orleans, La., Darnell Farmer and Lyal Farmer, both of Manassas, Va.; three sisters, Mildred Mitchell, St. Petersburg, Fla., Hilma Stuby and Elaine Viegas, both of Oakland, Calif.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Combs Funeral Service in Lebanon.
Services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Tom Edwards, Pastor of the Lebanon Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in Ketron Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Dennis R. Yokum, Dustin Yokum, Drew Joyce, Lyal Farmer, Darnell Farmer and Arnold Farmer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Homer Carter, Don Atwell, Harold Lambert and Gene Huff.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society for Ovarian Cancer Research, Russell County Memorial Chairman, Rt. 3, Box 23B, Lebanon, Va. 24266.

Ballard Earl Smiley, 69, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Ballard "Smiley" Earl Smiley, 69, a loving husband and father went to be with his Lord Tuesday (June 18, 2002) after an extended illness.
Smiley was born in Greene County, Tenn., a son of the late Pierce and Cora Estep Smiley. He was a member of the Way of Life Baptist Church.
He was retired from the Tire Center Inc., where he worked as off the road tire specialist. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Smiley.
Smiley is survived by his wife of 48 years, Hazel Mellons Smiley, of the home; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelia and Mark Lee, Kingsport; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Linda Smiley, Kingsport; one beloved granddaughter, Tasha Smiley, Kingsport; one stepgranddaughter, Christy Gardner, Kingsport; one stepgrandson, Jonathon Quillian, Kingsport; one stepgreat-grandson, Landon Gardner, Kingsport; and a sister, Eula Bell, California.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at East Lawn Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Johnny Gibson and the Rev. Roy Leedy officiating.
Family and friends will meet for a graveside service at 11 a.m. Friday in East Lawn Memorial Park, Garden of Prayer.

Judith Ann Smith, 43, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Judith "Judi" Ann Light Smith, 43, died Wednesday (June 19, 2002) as a result of injuries sustained in an accident.
Mrs. Smith was born in Tokyo, Japan, and resided in this area most of her life.
She worked for Wal-Mart Portrait Gallery in Johnson City. Her hobbies included photography and art.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jill Elizabeth Smith; mother, Betty Brown Light; and sister, Vanessa Light Webb.
Survivors include her husband, Billy Jack Smith; son, Joshua Aaron Light of Kingsport; sister, Teresa Light of Kingsport; brother, Steven Light of Kingsport; niece, Cara Light; nephews, Landon Webb and Christopher Webb.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.

CHICAGO, Ill. - Luther Jessie Wright, 75, formerly of Kingsport, went home to be with the Lord Sunday (June 16, 2002) following a lengthy illness.
He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War and retired from Motorola in Chicago.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John C. Wright and Wordie (Webb) Wright; and three brothers, John C. Wright Jr., Donald Wright and Allen Wright.
Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Clara Wright; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diana Koskiewicz and husband Allen, and Debbie Edwards and husband Randy; one son and daughter-in-law, Danny Wright and wife Laura; eight grandchildren; four sisters, Virginia Wright, Chattanooga, Brenda Stevens, Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Betty Ealey and Mrs. Carolyn Gilliam, both of Kingsport; three brothers, Authur Wright, Gray, Bob Wright, Kingsport, and Joe Wright, Fort Lewis, Wash.
Military graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the VA National Cemetery in Johnson City.
Friends will be received at the home of his sister, Carolyn Gilliam.
