MOUNT CARMEL - Ruby Crawford Calhoun, 85, passed away Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center.
Mrs. Calhoun was born in Sullivan County and was a resident of Hawkins County most of her life.
She was an animal lover and enjoyed farming and the outdoors.
Surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 3 p.m. today at the Oak Hill Funeral Home.
Graveside services will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery with Pastor Joe Byrd officiating.

Ivan E. Christian, 65, Morristown.
MORRISTOWN - Ivan E. Christian, 65, passed away Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Morristown Hamblen Hospital.
Mr. Christian was a retired truck driver from McGuffin Lumber Company.
He was a member of Rocky Springs Baptist Church.
Mr. Christian was preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Carrie Smith Christian; and brother, Donnie Christian.
Survivors include his wife, Edith Cooter Christian, Morristown; son, Mark and wife Chandra Christian, and daughter, Kimberly and husband Scott Carpenter, all of Morristown; daughter, Pamela and husband Johnny Heck Jr., Bulls Gap; brother, Michael Christian, Kingsport; grandchildren, Cleit Lance Everhart, Autumn Heck and Danielle Christian; great-grandchild, Brittney S. Everhart.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Westside Chapel Funeral Home, Morristown.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in County Line Cemetery with military honors being presented by VFW Post No. 5266 of Morristown.

Betty Clark, 86, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Marie Louise "Betty" Clark, 86, 104 Crown Colony, died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at her residence.
She was a native of Valley Stream, Long Island, N.Y., and had lived in this area for the last 43 years. She was the daughter of the late Harry W. and Dorothy Henderson LeBair.
She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church and Ridgefields Country Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Mitchell Clark; one daughter, Susan Dorothy Clark; and one brother, Harry W. LeBair Jr.
Surviving are two sons, Paul Mitchell Clark Jr., Brenham, Texas, and David Dudley Clark, Barrington, R.I.; two nieces, Loretta LeBair Metcalf and Linda LeBair Parnell; eight grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Ravine Road in Kingsport.
The memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday at the church.
The graveside will be held following the memorial service in the cemetery of the church.
The family will also receive friends at the home, 104 Periwinkle Place, Kingsport, at 12 noon following the graveside.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Ravine Road, Kingsport.

Betty R. Dockery, 67, Fall Branch.
FALL BRANCH - Betty Ruth Dockery, 67, 319 Church Road South, went to be with the Lord at 2:24 p.m. Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center following an extended illness.
Betty was born in Sullivan Gardens, where she lived for most of her life. She had worked for Dobyns Taylor and later for Sears in sales.
She was a member of Poplar Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
Her father, John Wesley Short, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her husband, Orbin Dockery Jr., of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Sherry Dockery, Gary Wayne and Shannon Dockery, all of Kingsport; four grandchildren, Rebekah, Christina, MacKenzie and Michala; a very special nephew, George Wesley Stevens, Kingsport; mother, Jessie D. Short, Kingsport; four sisters, Jeweldean Spurlock and husband Bill, Norma Hulse and husband John Henry, Jimmie Stevens and husband John, Carolyn Oaks and husband Lonnie; two brothers, Gary Ray Short and wife Kay, and Charles W. Short, all of Kingsport; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Mike Stout and Elder Oscar Irvin officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Poplar Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Family and friends will meet at the cemetery at 10:50 a.m.
Nephews and friends will serve as pallbearers.

George Easterly, 78, Morristown.
MORRISTOWN - George Arnold Easterly, 78, passed away on Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Fort Sanders Parkwest Medical Center in Knoxville.
Mr. Easterly was a retired educator from Morristown Hamblen West High School, where he taught science, biology and chemistry for 37 years.
Mr. Easterly was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Claudia Easterly.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Darrell Lott, Knoxville; brother, the Rev. Franklin M. Easterly, Louisville, Ky.; sister, Shirley Lawrence, Greeneville; grandchildren, Derrick and Candice Lott, Knoxville; devoted friends, Virgealia and Michael Ellis; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Mayes Mortuary in Morristown.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the chapel of the funeral home .
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Hamblen Memory Gardens.

John R. Lawson, 39, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - John R. Lawson, 39, of 1525 Kings Road, died Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) after a brief illness.
A lifelong resident of Kingsport, John was a 1980 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and a 1991 graduate of East Tennessee State University where he received his bachelor of business administration degree in marketing. He was a sales representative for Eastman Chemical Company and H.B. Fuller Company.
John was a member of Oakwood Forest Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by maternal grandparents, Reece and Addie Hurd; paternal grandparents, Guy and Nora Lawson.
Surviving are his mother, Ruth Lawson, Kingsport; father, Curtis Lawson, Johnson City; sister and brother-in-law, Laura and Mike Christian, Church Hill; stepniece, Megan Christian, Church Hill; uncle, Steve Hurd and wife, Sharon; aunt, Mary Jo Davis, Kingsport; and several cousins.

KINGSPORT - Gertrude Maude Light, 89, 1924 Bowater Lane, went to be with the Lord Friday (Nov. 30, 2001) at Wexford House. Our dearly beloved mother and sister will be missed by many.
Mrs. Light was born in Scott County, Va., and had lived in Kingsport for many years.
She was a member of Blessed Hope Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Thomas Light; a son, Tommy Joe Light; parents, Orley and Margaret Absher Hudson; and a sister, Louise Hudson.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Light, Kingsport; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert Light Sr., Gary and Patsy Light, all of Kingsport; grandchildren, Leslea Peters, Stephanie Russell, Bobby Light Jr., Scott Light, Randal Light, Misty Manis and Michael Hertling; several great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruby Light and Eula Phillips, both of Kingsport; and one brother, Fred Hudson, Kingsport.

Odis Maddux, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Odis Matilda Harris Maddux, 83, of Konnarock Road, departed this life Friday evening (Nov. 30, 2001) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
A native of Washington County, Va., she was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Kingsport. Mrs. Maddux was a member of Fidelis Sunday School class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry Harris and Otra Litton Harris; sisters, Mable Drusk, Gladys Crawford, Myrtle Hurt and Ardis Faust; and brother, Ted Harris.
Odis was a loving wife of Robert Leonard Maddux for 66 years. November 30, 2001 was their anniversary. Also surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Edsel Craft, of Memphis, Betty and Michael Basham, of Wise, Va., and Carlyon Marie and Jack Osteen, of Banner Elk, N.C.; grandchildren, Dr. Robert Craft, of Knoxville, Jacquelin Mikeluza, of Huntsville, Ala., Dr. Christopher Basham, of Bristol, Va., Jonathan Osteen, of Brooklyn, N.Y., Michelle Wills, of Emory, Va., Jill Mosley, of Virginia Beach, Va., Joshua Osteen and Jennifer Osteen, both of Pensacola, Fla.; great-grandchildren, Jennifer and Kris Montsinger, Marie, Thomas and Matthew Mikuleza, Kaitlyn Osteen; brother and sister-in-law, Elmer and Audaleen McNutt, Bristol, Va.; sisters-in-law, Mrs. Scott Clara Faye Wood, Mrs. F.M. Juanita Bays, Elsie Derting and Wilma Sue Wilson.

Services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. today in the church with Dr. Marvin Cameron and the Rev. Dean Smith officiating.

Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday in Holston View Cemetery.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go to the cemetery.

Virgie McDavid, 94, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Virginia "Virgie" Lou Helbert McDavid, 94, entered into rest at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Hillside on Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001).
Ms. McDavid was born April 15, 1907 in Scott County, Va. She was a daughter of the late Floyd Clenna and Minerva Elizabeth Grigsby Helbert.
She was of the Missionary Baptist faith.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Warner B. McDavid in 1992; twin babies in 1932; a son, Clennie McDavid in 1953; seven brothers and two sisters; two granddaughters, Betty Marie Jenkins and Mary Helen Anderson.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Alice McDavid, Johnson City, and Herbert and Betty McDavid, Daniel Boone, Va.; two daughters and son-in-law, Dorothy Faye Kindle, Gate City, and Naomi and Jim McLaney, Piney Flats; sister and brother-in-law, Lillian and Rosco Sutphen, Beckley, W.Va.; special granddaughter, Londa Bowen, Hiltons, Va.; 11 grandchildren and spouses, Bobby and Sharon McDavid, Selma McDavid, Freddie McDavid, Susan and Jeff Davidson, Ann and Eldridge "Bill" Thacker, James and Linda Jenkins, Clara Lou and Burns Robinson, Clay and Eddie Anderson, Jackie Anderson, Amie and Derick Joyce, and Sheri McLaney; 18 great-grandchildren, 15 great-great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Fellowship Chapel Church, and a retired employee of the Nettie Lee Shop. She was also a member of the Tops Club.
Survivors include her husband, Claude Hatler Statzer; daughter and son-in-law, Sue and Roger Hall, Gray; two grandsons, Jamey Hall and Jeremy Hall, both of Gray; sisters-in-law, Thelma Chafin, Bristol, Va., and Mae Statzer, Bristol, Tenn; two special cousins, Doug Smith, Kingsport, and Gene Smith, Church Hill; and several cousins.

JACKSBORO, Tenn. - Alice Marie Wishoun, 63, of 127 Ridenour Lane, died Thursday (Nov. 29, 2001) at the Ft. Sanders Regional Hospital in Knoxville.
She was of the Baptist faith. Alice loved to play Bingo and loved her family and friends, especially her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John H. and Delphia Mae Fulkerson Fair.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Leonard and Debbie Wishoun, Colorado, and Kelly and Tammy Wishoun, Clinton; daughters, Pamela McGuire, Pioneer, Janie Osborne, LaFollette, and Linda Burns, Dahlonega, Ga.; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and one stepgreat-great-grandchild; brothers, Jim and Gary Fair, Douglasville, Ga., Elbert Fair, Kingsport, John Fair, Muncie, Ind.; sisters, Dorothy Garland, Dougsville, Ga., and Ruth Meade, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. today in the chapel of Martin Wilson Funeral Home of Lafollette, with the Rev. Ralph Cordell officiating.
Interment will follow in Bakers Forge Cemetery.

Sylvia Wolfenbarger, 78, Ewing, Va.
EWING, Va. - Sylvia Estep Wolfenbarger, 78, passed away Saturday (Dec. 1, 2001) at Baptist Hospital.
Born Oct. 14, 1923, she was a member of Yellow Creek Baptist Church #2. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles and walking.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Minnie Brooks Estep; husband, Shelby H. Wolfenbarger; and four sisters, Bessie Ramsey, Roxie Ayers, Lydia Ayers and Edith Parks.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Beverly and Tom Davis, of Ewing; son and daughter-in-law, Shelby (Ronnie) and Jane Wolfenbarger, of Monroe, Mich.; two sisters, Lorene Jones, of Flatrock, N.C., and Mae Rowlette, of Jenkins, Ky.; two granddaughters, Cindy (Kenny) Rutherford and Jackie Williams; two grandsons, Eric (Jennie) Wolfenbarger and Ryan (Teasha) Wolfenbarger; three great-grandchildren, Presley Rutherford, Emilia Wolfenbarger and Taylor Williams.
