Doris Bray Bandy, 81, Stonega, Va.
STONEGA, Va. - Doris Bray Bandy, 81, entered into eternal life on Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at her home after an extended illness.
A lifelong resident of Southwest Virginia, she graduated from Appalachia High School and attended Bristol Business College. She worked in the family business, the Old Dominion Drug Store in Appalachia.
Doris was a member of Christ Episcopal Church of Big Stone Gap, Va., where she had served on the Altar Guild and sang in the choir. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Appalachia Women's Club and the Episcopal Women's Guild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. R.C. Bray and Bess Beverly Bray; and one sister, Beverly Bray.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Ralph E. Bandy Sr., Stonega; three daughters and sons-in-law, Louise Bandy, of the home, Susan Bandy Lohstreter and husband Jack, Garland, Texas, and Doris Bandy Bowman and husband Bob, Stonega; son and daughter-in-law, Ralph E. Bandy Jr., and wife Debbie, Kingsport; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosemary Noel, Big Stone Gap, Va., and Carol Cyr, Lafayette, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home in Appalachia, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel.
Graveside services will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Nichole Barbour, 30, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Nichole Leigh Barbour, 30, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) in Kingsport.
She was a homemaker and a loving mother, devoted sister and daughter. She was a good friend to all who knew and loved her and will be missed by everyone.
She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer F. Livesay; grandfather, Frank Livesay; great-grandmother, Mahallabelle Roberts; and great-aunt.
Surviving are her mother, Brenda S. Bowen and husband Jimmy G. Bowen; sons, Aaron Barbour, Christian Barbour and Zazkory Barbour, all of the home; former husband, Jackie Barbour, Eastern Star community; sisters, Tina M. Livesay, Dryden, Va., Amy R. Fink, Nikki Larkins and Mary Ann Bowen, all of Kingsport; brothers, Elmer D. Livesay and wife Rachel, Adam E. Livesay and wife Jamie, and Chad Vicars, all of Kingsport, several nieces and nephews.

Anna Laura Bradley, 70, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Anna L. Neeley Bradley, 70, 923 Millercrest Drive, passed away Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at the Johnson City Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Bradley was a native of Appalachia, Va. She was a daughter of the late John Edwin and Ella Perkins Neeley.
Mrs. Bradley was a member of Central Baptist Church, Johnson City, a member of the Esther Sunday School Class, the Central Baptist Church decoration committee, the Central Baptist Church choir and the Johnson City Monday Club.
Mrs. Bradley had retired from the James H. Quillen Medical Center in 1991 as an EEG technician.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Patrease Ann Wilhoit; three brothers, William F. Neeley, Ike Neeley, Joseph Patrick; and one sister, Gladys Neeley McConnell.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Bradley; three daughters and sons-in-law, Ella and Mark Adcox, Kingsport, Kelly and Larry Canter, Elizabethton, Myra and John King, Ft. Blackmore, Va.; one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Lori Wilhoit, Johnson City; two stepdaughters, Susan and Lee Chase, Melissa and Clay Thomas, Johnson City; two sisters, Dolly Nagel, Wichita, Kans., and Margaret Lusker, Clearwater, Fla.; two brothers, Roy Eugene "Gene" Neeley, Kingsport, and John Neeley, Orange Park, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Central Baptist Church, 300 North Roan Street, Johnson City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the church with Dr. Ron Murray and the Rev. Williard Warfield officiating.
Special music will be by the Central Baptist Church Choir under the direction of Mr. Tommy Martin with Mrs. Debbie Odom, soloist, Ambers Wilson, pianist, and Melanie Sparks, organist.
The entombment will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the mausoleum chapel in Monte Vista Memorial Gardens, 1900 E. Oakland Ave., Johnson City, with Dr. Ron Murray officiating.
Pallbearers will be sons-in-law: Larry Canter, John King, Mark Adcox, Lee Chase, Clay Thomas and Clyde Garrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be the William Rigell Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in loving memory of Anna N. Bradley may be made to the Shepherd's Spinal Center, 2020 Peachtree S.W., Atlanta, Ga.

Gladys Bridwell, 91, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Mary Gladys Franklin Bridwell, 91, 5000 Memorial Boulevard, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Gate City, Va., she was a resident of Kingsport most of her life. She was retired from J.C. Penney.
Mrs. Bridwell was a member of Bridwell Heights Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Buena Franklin; her husband, Neal Bridwell; a sister, Ollie D. Martin; and two brothers, W.R. Franklin and Charles E. (Chad) Franklin.
Survivors include one son, Raymond Bridwell and his wife Linda, Johnson City; four grandchildren, David Bridwell, Kingsport, Melissa Graham and husband Mike, Johnson City, Pamela Brummitt, Kingsport, and Robert Bridwell and wife Kelli, Elizabethton; three great-grandchildren, Shyann Hope Brummitt, Kingsport, Jordan Ryan Bridwell, Elizabethton, and Alexander Paul Graham, Johnson City; sister, Ruth Vaughn, Jacksonville, Fla.; special friends, Barbara and John McKay, and Frances and Marion Roberts; and several nieces and nephews.

KINGSPORT - Anna Wolfe Burke, 77, 1489 Granby Road, died late Saturday evening (Jan. 12., 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Scott County, Va., she had resided in Kingsport since 1977.
Mrs. Burke was a member of Wolfe's Chapel.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Niokia Burke; a son, Keith Burke; and two sisters, Edith Arnold and Portia Tate.
Surviving are her daughter, Phyllis Begley and husband Mack, Kingsport; sons, Bobby Burke and wife Kathy, Gate City, Va., and James "Denny" Burke, Kingsport; three grandchildren, Melissa Goins, Kristi Burke and Brian Burke; sisters, Allie Marshall and husband Walter, June Slater, Monnie Lane, all of Kingsport; brother, Howard Wolfe and wife Verna, Kingsport.

SURGOINSVILLE - Winnie Wilder Davis, 86, passed away at 5 a.m. Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center following a brief illness.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Surgoinsville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred W. Davis; one son, E. Rex Davis; parents, Jessie and Matilda Wilder; seven brothers, App, Grant, Kyle, J.B., Mack, Herbert and James Wilder; one sister, Hattie Reeves.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and Wayne Haun, Surgoinsville; daughter-in-law, Betty Davis, Church Hill; two granddaughters, Mrs. Doug (Cathy) Crowder and Mrs. Chris (Renee) Smith, both of Church Hill; three great-grandsons, Austin and Ethan Crowder and Andrew Smith, all of Church Hill; one sister, Mamie Tomlinson, Whitesburg.

SALTVILLE, Va. - Robert Lee Dotson, 57, died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at his home.
Born March 25, 1944 in Russell County, he was a son of the late Omer Dotson and Mary Catherine Duty Dotson. He had lived in Saltville the past year.
He was of the Holiness faith.
Surviving are one daughter, Elizabeth Diane Crampton, Saltville; one granddaughter, Stephanie Kay Crampton, Saltville; five sisters, Ella Williams, Bluefield, W.Va., Judy Dotson, Cleveland, Phyllis Deskins, Louise Surcey and Norma Jean Fields, all of Lebanon, Va.; one brother, Sam J. Dotson, Castlewood, Va.; three half sisters, Mattie Hall and Lucille Harris, both of Gate City, Va., and Audrey Cloyd, Kingsport; also several nieces and nephews.

Payslee Nichole Fink, 2 years old, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Payslee Nichole Fink, 2 years old, went home Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She won numerous beauty pageants and was a loving daughter and sister. Payslee came into this world an angel and left this world an angel.
She attended Sunday School at Sunnyside Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Elmer F. Livesay; paternal grandfather, Albert R. Fink; and aunt, Nichole L. Barbour.
Surviving are her mommy, Amy Fink, and daddy, Marty Gaby, of the home; father, Scott Fink and wife Christy, Morristown; maternal grandmother, Brenda Bowen and husband Jimmy, Church Hill; paternal grandmother, Hazel Fink, Kingsport; sister, Nikeeta S. Fink, and brother, Dakota S. Fink, both of the home; several aunts and uncles.

Joyce Janner, 61, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Joyce Jonas Hooven Janner, 61, 284 Hillside Drive, Buena Vista, Va. 24416, passed away at her residence at 2 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002).
She was born in Scott County, Va., and attended high school in Kingsport.
Mrs. Janner was an active bowler in the Kingsport area prior to moving away in the early 70's. She was also active in bowling in Montgomery, Ala., in the 80's and 90's.
She owned and operated Kids Koweztibles (personalized childrens books) in Buena Vista, Va., following being handicapped with C.O.P.D. (chronic pulmonary disease). She was also active on the internet.
She was preceded in death by her father, Gilbert R. Jonas, Kingsport.
Survivors include her husband, William Janner; daughters, Kathy Tucker and Mrs. Christopher (Debbie) Rahn, both of Montgomery, Ala.; stepdaughters, Mrs. Rob (Theresa) Biddle, Greensboro, Ind., and Mrs. James (Karla) Myers, Kokomo, Ind.; stepson, William and Lora Janner, Peru, Ind.; 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; mother, Mrs. Nannie McConnell, Kingsport; sisters, Mrs. Larry (Dana) Carr, Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Lester (Brenda) Mullins, Sneedville, and Mrs. James (Betty Sue) Craw, Blountville; one brother, G.R. Jonas, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

Kathleen Pruitt, 94, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Kathleen Elizabeth Pruitt, 94, entered into rest Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
Mrs. Pruitt was born Feb. 15, 1907 in Scott County, Va., to the late James William and Mahala Elizabeth Horton Eads.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lucian Charles Pruitt; one son, Jimmy Adams Pruitt; one sister, Bertha Booher; and one brother Douglas Eads.
Mrs. Pruitt was a lifelong member of the Former Presbyterian Church in Appalachia, Va. Mrs. Pruitt lived in Appalachia, Va., for 50 years before moving to Kingsport in 1978.
She was a branch manager for Stanley Home Products for over 30 years.
Survivors include one son, Charles Lucian Pruitt and wife Mary, Centreville, Va.; four grandchildren, Mrs. Linda-joy and Tom Schottle, Charles Michael and Cynthia Pruitt, Jimmy and Marge Pruitt, Michele and Scott Slagley; three great-grandchildren, Lucian Pruitt, John Schottle and Matthew Slagley; one sister-in-law and special friend, Trudy Butler; one nephew, Jay Booher; four nieces, Mabel Rogers, Emily Jones, Louise Jones, and Madeline Todd; numerous great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the Juanita S. Falin Chapel of the funeral home with the Pastors Johnny Duncan and Buddy Legg officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va.
Family and friends will be meeting at the cemetery for the graveside service.

Susie Rambo, 73, Gate City, Va.
GATE CITY, Va. - Mary Sue (Susie) Rambo, 73, of Route 4, passed away Saturday (Jan. 13, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born in Wytheville, Va., on October 11, 1928 to the late Thomas Edward and Jessie Myrtle Freeman Sr. She had been a resident of Scott County for over 40 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Hiltons Memorial United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Edgal Rambo, February 4, 1994; three sisters, Helen Ann Barnes, Judith Carroll Barnes and Virginia P. Barker.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Becky and Sam Bellamy, Gate City; one grandson, Jon Bellamy, Gate City; two sisters, Peggy B. Wright, Franklin, Va., and Nell B. Eastridge, Gray; two brothers, Thomas Edward Barnes Jr., Piney Flats, and James B. Barnes, Bristol, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., or anytime at the residence of the daughter, 131 W. Elm Street, Gate City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Don Umbarger and the Rev. Will Shewey officiating.
Music will be provided by Mona Carter.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.

Music will be provided by Brian Henry.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and anytime at the residence of David and Nancy Reed.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Holston View Cemetery, Weber City, Va.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 12:15 p.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

Daniel Rotenberry Jr., 84, Bristol, Va.
BRISTOL, Va. - Daniel B. Rotenberry Jr., 84, died Sunday (Jan. 13, 2002) in Indian Path Medical Center.
He had been residing in Kingsport for the past year.
Mr. Rotenberry was a retired employee of the Norfolk and Western Railroad.
Survivors include his wife, Naomi Griffen Rotenberry; one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Steve Matney, Kingsport; one brother, Sam Rotenberry, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Tammy Harper and James Fry, both of Kingsport; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Akard Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Gene Lasley officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be the staff of Asbury Center at Baysmont.

Mattie Stanley, 100, Darwin, Va.
DARWIN, Va. - Mattie Eliza Buchanan Stanley passed away Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at her home in Darwin where she had lived most of her life. She was 100 years of age.
Mattie was devoted to her family, was a devout Christian, a faithful member and deaconess of Lick Fork Freewill Baptist Church and a loyal friend to all.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Welford; and two young sons, Harold and Joel.
Surviving are two sons, Robert "Bobby" Stanley of Darwin, and Harry Stanley of Rutledge, Tenn.; four daughters, Helen Vanover and Janice Addington, both of Darwin, Nina Robinson of Jonesborough, and Mona Edwards of Abingdon, Va.; one sister, Ava Buchanan of Clintwood, Va.; 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She leaves numerous friends, nephews and nieces, and a special friend, Wilma Rice, CNA.
Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. today in the Mullins Funeral Home Chapel, Clintwood, Va., where a service will be conducted at 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with ministers Terry Price, Roy Robinson and Lynn Vanover officiating.
Burial will be in the Welford Stanley Cemetery, Hibbitts Gap, Darwin.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Robert Stanley Jr., Greg Vanover, Gary Vanover, Brandon Edwards, Jason Stanley, Ricky Wright and Duane Hamilton.

Jesse Harding Staten, 81, Johnson City.
JOHNSON CITY - Jesse Harding Staten, 81, 1210 East Myrtle Ave., died Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at his residence.
Mr. Staten was a Cranberry, N.C., native who had lived in Johnson City almost all of his life. He was a son of the late Steve and Mary Mann Staten.
He was retired from employment as an asbestos worker.
Mr. Staten was a member of the Unaka Avenue Baptist Church.
He was a member of the Johnson City Masonic Lodge No. 486.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Staten was preceded in death by two brothers, Bill L. Staten and Lester W. Staten.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Woodruff Staten, of the home; daughter, Carolyn Mackie, Kingsport; brother, Joe S. Staten, Laurel, Md.; one grandson, Kevin Mackie, Knoxville; one granddaughter, Angela Ogilvie, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Morris-Baker Funeral Home in Johnson City.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Tuesday from the South Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Mike Tyson officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Monte Vista Burial Park.

Henry Tate, 81, Mount Carmel.
MOUNT CARMEL - Henry L. Tate, 81, 403 Old Hickory Circle, passed away Friday (Jan. 11, 2002) at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center following a short illness.
Mr. Tate was a native of Scott County, Va., and was a lifelong resident of Virginia and Tennessee. He was a member and retired deacon of Oak Grove Baptist Church and was a retired employee of Eastman Kodak.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lou Sandidge Tate in December; his parents, Andrew Jackson and Augustine Elizabeth Wininger Tate; sisters, Mary Belle Mullins, Thelma Howell, and an infant sister; brothers, Auburn J. Tate, Reuben S. Tate, William E. Tate and James Massie Tate.
Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Judith Carol and Ronald Wilson, Church Hill, Rhonda Gail and Dwane Light, Mount Carmel; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry L. and Patsy Tate, Mount Carmel; six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Lloyd Tate, Gate City, Va., and Clarence "Tater" Tate, Hendersonville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today at Oak Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. T. Richard Harris and the Rev. Bruce Hullette officiating.
Graveside services, with military honors conducted by Church Hill VFW Post No. 9754, will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Church Hill Memory Gardens.

COEBURN, Va. - Belva Skeens Turner, 77, passed away Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at her home.
She was a member of the Herald Assembly of God for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Verda Carico Skeens; two brothers, William Clifton Skeens and Elmer Skeens; three sisters, Delia Payne, Julia Farmer and Lillie Smith; and a great-grandson, Jordon Leon Smith.
Surviving are her husband, Richard B. Turner; three sons, Richard Eldon Turner, Darrell Ray Turner and Jairus B. Turner, all of Coeburn; two daughters, Dana Lynn Johnson and Karis T. Davidson, both of Coeburn; two sisters, Lona Crowder and Maude Price, both of Coeburn, seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held after 6 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home in Coeburn.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Timothy Collins and the Rev. Curt Bond officiating.
Burial will follow in the Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn.

Samuel Vermillion, 57, Hiltons, Va.
HILTONS, Va. - Samuel Edward Vermillion, 57, of Route 1, departed this life Saturday (Jan. 12, 2002) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
He was born in Scott County, Va., on September 20, 1944. He was an electrician and member of I.B.E.W. No. 934.
He was a veteran of the Marine reserves.
He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel V. Vermillion.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Ann Vermillion, of the home; mother, Mallie Vermillion, Hiltons; two sons and daughter-in-law, Dennis Vermillion, and Bobby and Rebecca Vermillion, all of Hiltons; two granddaughters, Kayla and Ashley; sisters and brother-in-law, Mary and Roy Lee Depew, Mount Carmel, Elaine Culbertson, Gate City; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Junior and Mary Vermillion, Bill and Nadine Vermillion, all of Hiltons, Walter and Pauline Vermillion, Rogersville; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., or anytime at his residence.
At Mr. Vermillion's request, he was cremated.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given to the family.
