Will served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of Desert Storm. Once discharged, he became an active member of the U.S. National Guard, Gate City Branch.
Will worked as an electrician for Advent Electric before becoming disabled in July 2000. Will was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called Mesothelioma. He fought a most courageous battle with cancer and beat the odds many times, but the Lord had Will's home in heaven ready for him to come. At this time we must not grieve, but be thankful that Will knew the Lord and had a home waiting for him where he will no longer have the pain and suffering caused from this horrible disease called cancer. Will was a Christian man who touched many lives during his battle with cancer, and we must praise God that he had the chance to touch so many lives and bring glory to his name.
Will leaves behind many friends and family that will miss him dearly. He was well loved and cared for by his wife of eight years, Jeannie Short Goodman and one daughter, Hannah Brooke Goodman. Both Jeannie and Hannah fought the battle right beside Will and will have a struggle putting their lives back together after this long term fight. Friends and family would like to ask that you continue to remember them in your daily prayers as they begin a new battle of starting over.
Will was a very active member of Springdale Baptist Church and his wishes were to have donations sent to either the Will Goodman Fund to be used for Hannah or Springdale Baptist Church building fund. Both can be sent to Springdale Baptist Church, 1616 Haga Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660. Cards of love and encouragement can also be sent to the family in care of Springdale Baptist Church.

Pallbearers will be Josh Quillen, Jason Sykes, Dave Wexler, Dennis Housewright, Joe Righi and Steve Hux.
May I go now? Don't you think the time is right? May I say good-bye to pain-filled days and endless lonely, sleepless nights?
I've lived my life and done my best, an example tried to be, so can I take that step beyond and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first, I fought with all my might! But something seems to draw me now to a warm and loving light.
I want to go! I really do!
It's difficult to stay. But I will try as best I can to live just one more day…To give you time to care for me and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and are afraid because I see your tears. I'll not be far, I promise that, and hope you'll always know that my spirit will be close to you wherever you may go.
Thank you for loving me. You know I loved you too. That's why it's hard to say good-bye and end this life with you. So hold me now, just one more time and let me hear you say, because you care so much for me, you'll let me go today.
