KYLES FORD - Joann Baker, 72, passed away Thursday (May 9, 2002) at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Willie Livesay; and sister, Mary Kinsler.
Survivors include her husband, Ray A. Baker of Kyles Ford; sons and daughters-in-law, Lynn Carlos and Lori Baker of Memphis, Ray A. Jr. and Nola Jean Baker of Beech Bluff, Tenn.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; sisters, Louise Woods and Helen Woods, both of Jefferson City, Tenn., Judy Baker of Talbott, Tenn., and Lorene Branch of Morristown; brothers, Kermit Livesay and Ray Livesay, both of Talbott, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the chapel of McNeil Funeral Home, Sneedville, with the Rev. Donnie Shaw officiating.
Interment will be in the Baker Cemetery, Kyles Ford.

Phoebe Baker, Cliff Mountain, Va.
CLIFF MOUNTAIN, Va. - Miss Phoebe Baker passed away Saturday (May 11, 2002).
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by The Duffield Funeral Home at Thomas Village.

Gladys Bascom, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.
Services for Gladys Montana Robinette Bascom, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., who died Thursday (May 9, 2002), will be conducted at Gate City Funeral Home in Gate City, Va., at 1 p.m. today with the Rev. Bob Cloud officiating..
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be at the Robinette Family Cemetery in Fairview, Va.
Her pallbearers will be her nephews and grandnephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Robinette Methodist Church in Fairview, Va., c/o Paul Berry, Route 3, Clinchport, Va. 24244.

Norma Bowman, 52, Pound, Va.
POUND, Va. - Norma Jean Bowman, 52, died Saturday (May 11, 2002) at her residence in Pound.
Norma was of the Baptist faith. She was a former employee of Dickenson County Medical Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Baxter (Jack) Sturgill and Mary Sturgill.
Surviving are her husband, Randel Bowman, Pound; daughter, Melina Collier, Pound; son, Brett Bowman, Millstone, Ky.; sisters, Jackie Gillenwater, Kingsport, Nadine Horne, Weber City, Va., and Pauline Sturgill, Norton, Va.; brothers, Jimmy Sturgill, Ed Sturgill, Teddy Sturgill and Danny Sturgill, all of Pound, and Carson Sturgill, Weber City, Va.; and three grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Baker Funeral Home, Pound, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Sadie Baker Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Leonard Smith and Elder Donnie West officiating.
Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Pound.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Geneva Brown, 66, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Geneva Dowling Brown, 66, passed away Saturday (May 11, 2002) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol after an extended illness.
She was born in Grayson County, Va., and retired from Parks Belk. She was a member of Rock Heritage Baptist Church.
Her husband, T.R. Brown, mother Ida Todd Dowling Bates, father, Sidney Dowling, stepfather, Willie Bates, 16 brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters, Barbara Ray, Bulls Gap, Sandra Brown, Kingsport; a son, Teddy brown, Kingsport; special grandchildren, Larissa Clark, Latrica Yates, Latondra Yates, Nick Hammonds, Chris Hammonds, Alex Miller; brothers, Sidney Dowling and wife Vada, Bassett, Va.; and a host of very special nieces and nephews and friends.
Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Memorial service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday at Rock Heritage Baptist Church with Pastor Garry Eads and Pastor Roy Tucker officiating.
Memorials may be made to Rock Heritage Baptist Church, 4800 Fort Henry Drive, Kingsport, Tenn. 37663.

Judy E. Corbin, 55, Miamisburg, Ohio.
MIAMISBURG, Ohio - Judy E. (Patrick) Corbin, 55, passed away on Friday (May 10, 2002) at Sycamore Hospital.
Judy was born on February 14, 1947 in Lee County, Va., and was preceded in death by her parents, George and Beaulah Stapleton Patrick.
She was a member of the First General Baptist Church, S. Chicago Heights, Ill.
Survivors include her husband Jerry; son, Jerry Corbin Jr. of Steger, Ill.; two daughters and son-in-law, Laura and Marvin Grutzius of Beecher, Ill., and Courtney Corbin of Miamisburg; two brothers and sister-in-law, Garland and Karen Patrick of Lake Grove, N.Y., and Mike Patrick of Miamisburg; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Barbara and Bud Mullins, Pennington Gap, Va., JoAnne Phillips of Noblesville, Ind., Gail Burgett of Dyer, Ind., Brenda Fields of Miamisburg; a granddaughter, Savannah Grutzius of Beecher, Ill.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Gebhart-Schmidt-Parramore Funeral Home, 508 E. Linden Ave., Miamisburg, Ohio.
Services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Douglas Surber officiating.
Burial will be in Hillgrove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Diabetes Assoc. in her memory.

John "Toots" Cox, 73, Blountville.
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Mr. John Henry "Toots" Cox, 73, entered into rest on Saturday (May 11, 2002) at the residence of his son in Blountville.
Mr. Cox was born in Scott County Va., on August 14, 1928, a son of the late Joseph Henry and Lula Peters Cox.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Beatrice Cox; one daughter, Carolyn Sue Hill; and his brother, Lonzo Cox, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deana and Lee Kaylor, Weber City, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Carson Duane and Rosemary Cox, Blountville; grandchildren, Mrs. Nickie (Sherry) Griffin, Mrs. Jennifer Ramey, Tony Fansler and Andy Thornburg; great-grandchildren, Chandra Griffin, Isaiah Ramey and Dalton Hammond; one sister, Effie Neeley, Powell, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Gate City Funeral Home.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Lonas "Hawk" Salling and the Rev. Kenneth Neeley officiating.
Salley's Chapel Quartet will provide the music.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Johnson-Head Cemetery in Robinette Valley of Scott County, Va.
J.C. Neeley, Gerald Griffin, Tony Fansler, Jim Fansler, Andy Thornburg, Dan Whitten, Larry Winegar, Aaron Whitten and Michael Ramey will serve as pallbearers.
Thomas Page, Ike Hurd, Carter Page, Wayne Winegar, J.C. Johnson, Luke Horton, Simon West and Echol Fansler will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go in procession to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wellmont Hospice House.

Rev. Clyde Griffin, 83, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Rev. Clyde Griffin, 83, passed away Saturday (May 11, 2002) at Asbury Center at Baysmont after a brief battle with cancer.
He was a long time resident of Sullivan County and retired from Tennessee Eastman Co.
He spent most of his time as a lay pastor. Springdale Baptist Church began in his basement and he pastored Vernon Heights Baptist Church, Beech Creek Baptist Church, Mill Creek Baptist Church and Solomon's Temple Baptist Church.
His beloved wife, Cora, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his son, Dr. Dan Griffin and wife Fay, Memphis; granddaughters, Gina Griffin, Memphis, and Lisa Griffin, Arlington, Va.; special niece, Gerry Dishner; and many other nieces and nephews.
Arrangements will be announced by Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.

Karen Jo Mann, 31, Coeburn, Va.
Graveside services for Karen Jo Mann, 31, Coeburn, Va., who entered into rest Thursday (May 9, 2002), will be conducted at 11 a.m. today at the Salling Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 10 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.

Paul Pierson, 71, Weber City, Va.
WEBER CITY, Va. - Paul Glen Pierson, 71, of Chapel Street, departed this life Friday (May 10, 2002) at his residence.
He was a native of Scott County, Va. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1956, and retired as foreman from Ford Motor Company in Cleveland, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Pierson in 1954 and Nannie Davidson Pierson in 1991; two sisters, Georgia Faye Beard Light in 1994 and June Pierson Gray in 1998.
Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Glen Paul Pierson and wife Claudine, Saltville, Va.; grandchildren, Candy, Sabrina, Jonathan, Aimee and Marelena; great-grandchildren, Kayla, Donavin and Austin; sister, Jean Pierson, Weber City; devoted nephew, Wayne Pierson, Weber City; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Scott County Funeral Home, Weber City, and anytime at the residence of the sister, Jean Pierson.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with Elder John Clifford Pierson and the Rev. Mack Sanders officiating.
Music will be provided the Lee Smith Family Singers.
Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Pierson Cemetery, Ft. Blackmore, Va., with military honors by Charles DeWitt Byrd VFW Post No. 3382 of Kingsport.
Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Tuesday to go to the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Wayne Poole, Wayne Pierson, Larry Beard, C.J. Blessing, Fred Beard, Sam Blessing, Jackie Beard, Joey Blessing and Jonathan Pierson.

Sam Prillhart, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Sam Albert Prillhart, of Kiwanis Towers, died at 5:50 a.m. Saturday (May 11, 2002) at Hillside Manor Health Care.
Born in Washington County (Johnson City), he moved to Kingsport in 1931. He was employed at Tennessee Eastman Co. and retired from Kingsport Press as a security guard after years of service.
He attended Pleasant View Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Stevens Prillhart; son, Douglas Ray Prillhart; parents; three sisters, Virgie Hicks, May Prillhart and Georgia Maples; five brothers, Marshall, Joe, James, Ireland and Lee Prillhart.
Surviving are three daughters, Ms. Wanda Speier, Tusone, Ariz., Ms. Lynda Joyce Willey, Seaford, Del., and Ms. Wilma Jean Fleck, Tusone, Ariz.; one son, Bobby Allen Prillhart, Seaford, Del.; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret Manley, Charlottesville, Va., and Mrs. Dolan (Verna) Cantrell, Titusville, Fla.; two brothers, Earl "Jiggs" Prillhart and wife Elizabeth, Johnson City, and Emory Prillhart and wife Lola, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.

DANTE, Va. - Phyllis Taylor, 63, died Friday (May 10, 2002) at her home.
She was born in Dante, Va., a daughter of the late Ben and Trula Meade Baker.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Billy Harold Taylor; and one sister, Lois Baker Bowman.
Survivors include two daughters, Debra Taylor, Bristol, Tenn., and Kimberly Greer and husband John, Dante; one son, Jimmy Taylor, Dante; two sisters, Kay Frances Long, Lebanon, Va., and Peggy Mann, Kingsport; two grandchildren, Valerie Taylor and Joshua David Greer; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at Castlewood Funeral Home in Castlewood, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Leonard Ferguson officiating.
Burial will follow in Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, Va.
Pallbearers will be members of the Freebirds Motorcycle Family.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jock Fields, Roger Taylor and Tim Taylor.

Born in Greene County, she resided in Fall Branch for the past 30 years. Mrs. Ward was a member of Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church.
Her husband, T.R. Ward Sr. (July 29, 2001); a son, Gale Ward; father, J. Rome Compton preceded her in death.
Surviving are her sons, Charles Ward and wife Stella, Jeff Ward and wife Laura, Tillman Ray Ward Jr., all of Fall Branch; grandchildren, Shellie Ward, T.R. Ward, Preston Thornburg, Megan Thornburg, Amber Ward and Brandi Ward; mother, Minnie Compton, Kingsport; sisters, Lois Dunn, Louise Blankenbecker, Martha Davis, all of Kingsport, Janice Hicks and Ina Goldforth, both of Blountville; brother, Bill Compton, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hamlett-Dobson Fall Branch Chapel or anytime at the home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pine Grove Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating.
