Graveside services for Daniel Archer, 83, 1740 Netherland Road, Kingsport, who died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002), will be at 11 a.m. today at East Lawn Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Word of Hope Church, P.O. Box 53, Fall Branch, Tenn.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown, is in charge of arrangements.

Bridget Dale, 81, Wise, Va.
WISE, Va. - Bridget Louise Dale, 81, passed away Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at her home in Wise, Va.
She was a former employee of Wise Appalachian Regional Hospital in the Housekeeping Department, and a former employee of Glenn's Drive-In as a cook.
She was of the Holiness faith.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marlous Dale Sr.; and her parents, Dode and Lola Hubbard Vanover.
Surviving are two sons, David Dale, Bowling Green, Mo., and Douglas Dale, Norton, Va.; one daughter, Alice Fay Cox, Wise, Va.; three brothers, James Vanover, Coeburn, Va., Jennings Vanover and Coy Vanover, both of Wise, Va.; three sisters, Emma Mullins and Ilah Kiser, both of Wise, Va., and Charlotte Johnson, Coeburn, Va.; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Sturgill Funeral Home in Wise, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Matthew Dale officiating.
Burial will follow in Beverly Cemetery in Wise, Va.

Calvin Duncan, 75, Kingsport.
Calvin Maurice (Pepsi) Duncan, 75, of Kingsport, went to be with the Lord Monday (Aug. 26, 2002). Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Barrett Dye, 19, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Barrett Victor Dye (McAdam), 19, passed away unexpectedly on Friday (Aug. 23, 2002).
Born in New Orleans, La., he had lived in Kingsport for eight years. Mr. Dye was a 2001 graduate of Dobyns-Bennett High School and was presently enrolled at Northeast State Technical Community College.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Martha Dye.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Mary Robin and Jim McAdam, Kingsport; father, Kenneth Barrett Dye, New Orleans, La.; paternal stepgrandparents, Joseph G. and Ellen Joy McAdam, New Orleans, La.; paternal stepgreat-grandmother, Grace McAdam, New Orleans, La.; maternal grandfather, Victor Louis "Pops" Colomb Jr., New Orleans, La.; brother, Zachary James McAdam, Kingsport; several aunts, uncles and friends.
Calling hours are from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, downtown Kingsport.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home chapel with Sally Parker officiating.
Burial will follow in Washington County Memory Gardens.

Julie Marie Floyd, 72, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - Julie Marie Floyd, 72, of Gravely Road, passed away peacefully Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol after an extended battle with lung cancer.
Julie was born in Lee County, Va., but was raised in Charleston, S.C., and spent the majority of her adult life in Kingsport.
Mrs. Floyd had a kind heart and was always willing to open her home to anyone in need. She provided the first Gravely Elementary School Library out of her home for the Gravely community. She was active with the Gravely Elementary PTA. She was a very avid bowler on several bowling leagues.
She was previously employed by Oak Hill Cemetery. She was a licensed hair dresser and previously owned Julie's Hairstylist in Bloomingdale.
Julie was preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm J. Floyd; parents, Omer and Eugenia Gilliam; brothers, Billy Carson and Rion Gilliam. She was the oldest granddaughter of Rev. "Uncle Billy" Barnette.
Surviving are her daughters, Connie Jean Webb, Blountville, Tena Floyd Akers, Kingsport, and Anita and husband B.H. Hall, Kingsport; sons, Jerry Omer and wife Sandra Floyd, Kingsport, Rick and wife Debby Floyd, Kingsport; 10 grandchildren, Tony Webb, Scott Floyd, Anissa Carter, Anita Gibson, David Floyd, Brad Floyd, Melissa Akers Douglas, Michael Akers, Amber Hall, Shong Hall; five great-grandchildren; sister, Zelma Jean Newland, Kingsport; brothers, Ronald E. and wife Helen Jo, Kingsport, and Jack Gilliam, Kingsport; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today in the Oak Hill Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tony Webb, Scott Floyd, David Floyd, Brad Floyd, Michael Akers and Jerry M. Floyd.

Leonard D. Garrison, 71, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Leonard Douglas Garrison, 71, of Bonita Springs, passed away Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) at his residence.
He was a prototype engineer for Norfolk Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was a life member of the VFW Post No. 7721 of Naples, Fla.
He was of the Baptist faith and was faithful to and honored the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was a loving and faithful husband and father and he unselfishly shared his life with us.
He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard R. Garrison.
Surviving are his wife, Jackalo Moore Garrison of the home; mother, Stelma Garrison of Big Stone Gap; one son, Leonard D. "Butch" Garrison II of Atlanta, Ga.; two brothers, Robert Garrison of Gallatin, Tenn., and John Garrison of Christiansburg, Va.; one sister, Patti Garrison of Davenport, Fla.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 7 p.m. today at Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Brown officiating.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Powell Valley Memorial Gardens in Big Stone Gap. Family and friends are asked to assemble at Gilliam Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. to go together to the cemetery.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.

Nell Gibson, 84, Exeter, Va.
EXETER, Va. - Nell Katherine Gibson, 84, passed away Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at Lonesome Pine Hospital, Big Stone Gap, Va.
She was a member of Exeter Methodist Church and was a former writer of the Exeter News for the Post.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hobert Gibson.
Surviving are a son, Larry "Hoot" Gibson, Exeter, Va.; daughter, Mary Ann Kern, Hopewell, Va.; a brother, Gerald Swecker, Appalachia, Va.; four sisters, Ann Galati, Florida, Doris Bledsoe, Concord, Tenn., Liz Parsons, Oak Ridge, Tenn., and Jewell Ellis, Florida; nine grandchildren, Mary Beth Wilder, Chris Gibson, Todd Gibson, Cathy Ritchie, Hank Gibson, Troy Gibson, Jody Kern, Tim Kern, Chad Kern; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Roy A. Green Funeral Home, Appalachia, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gene Swiney officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the American Legion Cemetery. Family and friends will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Wednesday.

George Phelan Hall, 85, Coeburn, Va.
COEBURN, Va. - George Phelan Hall, 85, died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at St. Mary's Hospital in Norton, Va.
Mr. Hall was a heavy equipment operator and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Floyd and Elizabeth Johnson Hall; one son, Robert W. Hall; and grandson, Chip Wiltshire.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy J. Hall; a daughter, Janet K. Hall, Hendersonville, N.C.; two sons, George W. Hall, Lemont, Ill., and Richard W. Hall, Nashville, Tenn.; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Private graveside memorial services will be held at a later date in Greenwood Memorial Gardens in Coeburn, Va.
Estes Funeral Home, Coeburn, Va., is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Jefferson, 52, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Sarah N. Bruner Jackson Jefferson, 52, died peacefully Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Aurora Bruner; one sister, Janie Patterson; and one brother, Kenneth Bruner.
Survivors include her daughter Janina Lomax (Gina) and one son Richard Jefferson (Richie), both of Big Stone Gap. Sarah had four grandchildren who meant the world to her: Trey and Brieann Lomax of Big Stone Gap, and Destiny Boring and Brooke Jefferson of Appalachia, Va.; three brothers, Larry and Charles Bruner of Big Stone Gap, and Bennie Bruner of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Carolyn Comer of Big Stone Gap; former husbands, Melvin Jackson of Columbia, S.C., and Greg Jefferson of Wise, Va.; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Sarah was a very devoted mother, grandmother and sister. We will all miss her and she will be in our hearts forever and always.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in Gilliam Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, with Greg Townsend, Minister, officiating.

Jacquline M. Jones, 73, Harlan, Ky.
HARLAN, Ky. - Mrs. Jacquline (Jackie) M. Jones, 73, of Sunny Acres, passed away Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) at the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital.
A native of Virginia, Mrs. Jones had resided in Harlan almost 48 years. She was a former employee of the Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital, having served as Supervisor of Admissions and Director of Volunteers.
She was a member of the Harlan Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Viola Meade; and a son, Kelly Lee Jones.
Surviving are her husband of 48 years, Earl F. Jones of Sunny Acres; a grandson, Chad Christopher Simcoe of Jeffersonville, Ind.; cousins, Peggy Blevins and husband Bill of Lenoir City, Tenn., Margaret Gillenwater of Lenoir City, Tenn., Patsy Craft of Gate City, Va., Linda McNew of Lebanon, Va., Rolie Redwine of North Carolina, and Jimmy Troutt of New York; a sister-in-law, Faye Brock of Lenarue; brothers-in-law, Harry E. Jones and wife Virginia of Orlando, Fla., Bucky Jones and wife Norma of Harlan, and Chuck Jones and wife Barbara of Harlan. She also leaves several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Beckie Jones of Harlan.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Harlan Baptist Church.
Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. today at the church with Dr. John Ditty and the Rev. Robert Landis officiating.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Resthaven Cemetery, Keith, Ky.
Pallbearers will be Rick Brock, Randy Brock, Mike Brock, Chris Jones, Robert Jones, Chad Simcoe, Jeff Brock, Bryan Morgan and Rob McGeorge.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the American Legion Post No. 336 and VFW Post No. 1178.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Harlan Baptist Church, Mary Helen United Methodist Church, or the Harlan Boys Choir.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Anderson & Laws Funeral Home, Harlan, Ky.

Helen Kelly, 80, Omaha, Neb.
OMAHA, Neb. - Helen Gilley Kelly, 80, formerly of Big Stone Gap, Va., until 1965, died Saturday (Aug. 24, 2002) from complications of lung cancer surgery in Omaha, Neb.
She was born in Big Stone Gap, Va., the daughter of the late Judge Kelley Gilley and Carrie Thompson Gilley. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Big Stone Gap, Va. She moved to Lexington, Ky., in 1965, where she worked in retail sales until her retirement in 1986. She had resided in Omaha, Neb., since 1999.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Clayton Kelly; and three sisters, Maurine Smith, Katherine Duffy and Louise Jones.
Surviving are her son, John C. Kelly and wife Annette, Omaha, Neb.; daughter, Karen K. Moerlein and husband Bob, Palm Harbor, Fla.; grandsons, David A. Marcum, Palm Harbor, Fla., and John W. Kelly, Omaha, Neb.; great-grandson, Blake A. Marcum, South Fulton, Tenn.; brothers, James B. Gilley and Kenneth Gilley, both lifelong residents of Big Stone Gap, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Mutter officiating.
Committal services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap, Va.

Robert F. (Ron) Klein, 61, Kingsport.
Robert F. (Ron) Klein, 61, 2760 E. Stone Drive, Kingsport, beloved husband and father, departed this life Sunday (Aug. 25, 2002) to be with his eternal Savior after a brief battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Klein Sr. and Anita Nora Worthington.
Surviving are his wife, Judy Long Klein; two daughters, Jenny Davis, Kingsport, and Peggy Collins, Kingsport; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; lifelong friends, Linda Bradshaw and Brenda Robinette; and several relatives of New Haven, Conn.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Chapel, downtown, and anytime at the home.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Joel Smith and the Rev. Paul Evans officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Sullivan County Cemetery.

Joe Shockley, 81, Big Stone Gap, Va.
BIG STONE GAP, Va. - Joe Cecil Shockley, 81, died Friday (Aug. 23, 2002) at his residence.
He was retired from Westmoreland Coal Co. after 40 years of service. He was a long-time member of the UMWA Local 1405. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and saw action in the European Theater of Action.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Bertie Shockley; sister, Mary Ruth Rhoten; and one brother, Ralph Shockley.
Surviving are his wife, Eula Shockley; two sons, Ronnie Shockley, Bristol, Va., and Terry Shockley, Edgefield, S.C.; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Anna Lee Shockley Niekamp, Big Stone Gap, Va.; two brothers, Bobby Shockley, Kingsport, and Eugene Shockley, Indianapolis, Ind.; several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Holding Funeral Home, Big Stone Gap, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Raymond Moore officiating.
Entombment will follow in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. Military services will be conducted by Norton VFW Post No. 4301 and the Wise Chapter No. 56 DAV.

James Snodgrass, 89, Kingsport.
KINGSPORT - James Edmund Snodgrass, 89, died Monday afternoon (Aug. 26, 2002).
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Oak Hill Funeral Home.

Mr. Lloyd F. Walker, 94, Jonesborough.
JONESBOROUGH - Mr. Lloyd F. Walker, 94, 314 Bayless Rd., died Monday (Aug. 26, 2002) at his residence.
Mr. Walker was a native of Washington County and son of the late J.W. and Mary M. Bayless Walker.
He attended Tennessee Wesleyan College where he played baseball and basketball. He was a farmer and a member of Farm Bureau and Ruritan Community League baseball.
Mr. Walker was a member of Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Lucile Keys Walker.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Shanks, Jonesborough; one grandson, Samuel W. Shanks, Elizabethton; four granddaughters, Gail Smith, Tallahassee, Fla., Susan West, Gray, Audrey Taylor, Woodbridge, Va., and Leyla Shanks, St. Petersburg, Fla.; one sister, Oma Hunt, Johnson City; five great-grandsons, Ray Smith, Tallahassee, Fla., Shane West and Dustin West, both of Gray, Jake Shanks and Patrick Shanks, both of Elizabethton; two great-granddaughters, Sarah Taylor, Woodbridge, Va., and Rachel Shanks, Elizabethton; one grandson-in-law, Jim West, Gray; and one granddaughter-in-law, Barbara Shanks, Elizabethton.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Church.
Services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the church with the Rev. Jonathan Jonas officiating.
Interment services will follow in the Sulphur Springs Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bruce Bacon, Don Nelson, Sam Carter, Jim Cox, Hobart Powell, Larry Bales, Jimmy Keys, Sam Shanks, Jim West, Shane West, Dustin West, Ray Smith, Bill Squibb, Bobby Gene Ford and Henry Walker.
