GATE CITY, Va. - Irene Nora Day Brady, 77, of Route 7, went peacefully to be with her heavenly Father on Saturday (June 2, 2001) at her residence after a lengthy illness.
She was a native of Wise County, Va., but lived in California for several years. She was employed with Gerbur Products.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles A. Brady, in June, 1999; parents, Isaac Burton Day and Alice Mae Cantrell Day; brother, Adrain N. Day; sister, Mary Day Lengrand; half sister, Ome Day; and half brother, Ernest Day.
Surviving are a sister, Ruth D. Price, Gate City; brothers, Alfred L. Day, Fremont, Calif., Carson S. Day, Patterson, Calif., Rev. Garney J. Day, Boones Mill, Va., and David W. Day, Gate City; and half sister, Edison Cox, Baltimore, Md.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Ora Harville Coffey.
Surviving are her foster parents of 6 years, Earl and Sharon Borton, Eidson; two sisters, Bonnie Coffey, Greeneville, and Eva Brooks and husband, Joe, Florida; four brothers, Kyle Coffey, Bean Station, Ristine Coffey, Morristown, John Coffey, Bean Station, and Chandler Coffey, Greeneville; several nieces and nephews.

MANASSAS, Va. - Rowena Ethel Daniel, 83, died Friday (June 1, 2001) at her home.
Mrs. Daniel was born and raised in Kingsport and had lived in the Manassas area for 59 years. She was a 40-year member of the Manassas Presbyterian Church and had served as a deaconess. She was a beloved employee of Trailways Bus Service, Washington, D.C., known to her coworkers as "Mama Daniel" for 30 years, having retired in 1982 as a revenue clerk.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter G. Daniel, who died in 1960; and one son, Col. Walter B. Daniel, who died in 1997.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra A. and Bradley McGlothlin, Manassas, Va.; two sons and a daughter-in-law, James W. Daniel, Manassas, Va., and Joe and Greta Daniel, Manassas, Va.; 10 grandchildren, Timothy McGlothlin, Angela Trbovich, Curtis McGlothlin, Adrian Kosmicki, Anita Pennington, Amber Smoot, Kenny Daniel, Jason Miller, Kay Roof and Angela Shortall; and nine great-grandchildren, Caitlin Trbovich, Nick Trbovich, Carly Trbovich, Shane Rose, Jeremy Rose, Travis Pennington, Katherine Roof, Hannah Roof and Clarissa Roof.

GATE CITY, Va. - Polly Belle Culbertson Dean, 77, Route 1, went to be with the Lord Sunday (June 3, 2001) at Brian Center Health and Rehabilitation in Weber City.
She was born in Scott County, Va., on March 24, 1924 to the late Dallard and Clara Carter Culbertson. She was a homemaker and attended Midway Methodist Church.
Mrs. Dean was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Dean Sr. (Jan. 27, 1998); sister, Ida Mae Kendall; and brother, Everett Lee Culbertson.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Hal David (Barbara) Salley, Kingsport; sons and daughters-in-law, Clyde and Eloise Dean Jr., Gate City, Va., and Billy Joe and Wanda Gail Dean, Nickelsville, Va.; grandchildren, Anissa Kwan Childress, Crystal Bush, Sue Ann Spellar, Coby Ryan Dean, Joy Denise Dean and Christina Johnson; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Ashley Bush, Dalton Lee Spellar, Whitney and Hayley Johnson, Michael Dean, Kealy and Kasey Childress; brothers, John Culbertson and Kelly Culbertson, both of Gate City, Va.; several nieces and nephews.

Born in Scott County, Va. on Sept. 19, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Emmitt and Nancy Owens Akers.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonnie Lucille Beard and Helen Laura Kinkead; two brothers, James Carlos Akers and Emmitt H. "Junior'' Akers Jr.
Surviving are two daughters, Melody Lynn Akers, Burnside, Ky., and Teresa Ann Rhoton Perez, Arcadia, Fla.; one son, Paul Edward Petrusak, Manchester, Ky.; 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Kathleen Osborne, Dungannon, Va.; one brother, Jimmy McArthur Akers, Kingsport; and several nieces and nephews.

GATE CITY, Va. - Hazel Duty, 75, formerly of Dungannon, Va., entered into rest Monday (June 4, 2001) at Holston Valley Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 2, 1925 in Scott County, Va., and was the daughter of the late Nathan and Cassie Osborne Corder.
She was a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, J.W. Honeycutt; and former husband, Willie Duty in 1983; one daughter, Donna Gail Monroe in 1994; two sisters, Lillian Sluss and Audrey Strong; five brothers, Howard, Warren, Nathan, Lloyd and Walker Corder.
Surviving are two sisters and brother-in-law, Lottie Darnell, Gate City, Va., and Frieda and Ronnie Warren, Wabash, Ind.; two grandchildren, Jessie Monroe and Audrey Lynn; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong resident of the area and was a retired mechanic. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Polly Hall; brothers, George, Alex, Clarence and Vass Hall; sisters, Rosey Horner, Bertha Hall and Olie Hall.

He was a member of the Little Country Primitive Baptist Church. He was retired from the City of Rogersville Street Department and was also a retired farmer and construction worker.
He was preceded in death by two infant sons, Ronnie and Donnie King; father, George Henry King; mother, Linnie Pearl King; three sisters, (twins) Norma Jean and Geraldine King and Brenda Hall; and one brother, David King.

He was a faithful member of Kettering Assembly of God in Dayton, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by one son, Charles Phipps; parents, Harrison and Lucinda Phipps; two brothers, Paul Phipps and E.S. Phipps; and two sisters, Ada Delcarpin and Lilly Lambert.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lorene Phipps, of the home; two sons, George W. Phipps Jr., Dayton, Ohio, and Robert S. Phipps, Sweetwater, Tenn.; two daughters, Judy Gay and husband, Jim, and Doris Jean Braden and husband, Elmer, both of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Henry F. Born in Russell County, she was a daughter of the late W.D. and Margaret Taylor Harman. She was a member of the Reynolds Memorial United Methodist Church in Bristol. She was the widow of William Queale.
She was preceded in death by one brother, W. D. Harman, Jr.; and three sisters, Gay Harman, Pansy Fleenor and Thelma Harman.
Surviving are three nieces, Linda Santiago, Horn Lake, Miss., Judy Sanders, Abingdon, Va., and Jo Ann Wright, Cleveland, Va.; also four great-nieces, and two great-nephews.
Graveside services will be conducted to 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Russell Memorial Cemetery in Lebanon, Va., with the Rev. Darrell Harmon officiating.

CHURCH HILL - George Roger Sexton, 57, 363 Click Town Road, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday morning (June 3, 2001) at Indian Path Medical Center after a very brief illness.
He was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a 1963 graduate of Church Hill High School. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and was retired from Eastman Company after 27 years of service.
He was a member of Greenvale Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Pauline Click Sexton; infant sister, Barbara Jean Sexton; and nephew, Michael Knowles.
Survivors include his father, Elmer K. Sexton, Church Hill; one daughter, Lisa; one sister, Ms. Patti Knowles, Church Hill; close friend, J.R. Gilreath, Gate City, Va.; niece, Teresa Jones, Chicago, Ill.; nephew, Dennis Knowles, Washington, D.C.; several beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was a member of Rogersville Presbyterian Church and was retired from Southern Railroad.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew Davidson Simpson; parents, Henry Herman and Hazel Kyle Epping; brother, Herman Epping.

She was an active member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark B. Towle; brother, Joe R. McCrary; sisters, Frances Templin and Samma Harper.
Survivors include her husband, Philip S. Towle; sons and daughters-in-law, Phil and Dorothy Towle III, Peter and Karen Towle; grandchildren, Chris, Rebecca and Peter Towle, Jr.

He was a former employee of Bristol Metals and Edgemont Wrecker Service, a member of Bible Way Church, and a 27-year member of the AA.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Berdie Shepperd Trinkle.
Survivors include three sisters, Gladys Booher, Juanita Felty and Frances Akers; two brothers, Harold Worley and Herb Trinkle; several nieces and nephews, including nephew, Jimmy Worley, who made his home with Bobby.

She was a lifelong resident of the Big Stone Gap, Va. area, and was the daughter of the late Clifford and Della (Dickenson) Mize. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Mize and Marvin Mize.
Surviving are her husband, Johnny J. Wilson; one daughter, Carolyn Wilson, Kingsport; one son, John L. Wilson and wife, Wendy, Upper Arlington, Ohio; three grandchildren, Lee Ann Salyers and husband, Keith, Hillary A.
