Callie Christian
CLINCHPORT, Va. - Callie Bellamy Christian, 79, of Route 2, died Friday (June 2, 2000) at Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was born in Scott County on March 18, 1921 to the late William McKinley and Stella Myrtle Peters Bellamy.
She was a homemaker and attended Lawson Memorial Church. She was of the Christian faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Harvey Christian, Oct. 12, 1999; son, Bobby Wayne Christian; grandson, Steven Gregory Christian; son-in-law, Jimmie Lee Akers.
Surviving are a daughter, Carole Akers, Gate City, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and JoAnn Christian, Kingsport; daughter-in-law, Nancy Christian, Weber City; brother, Marlin Bellamy, Kingsport; sisters, Pauline Lane, Weber City, Emma Bates, Gate City.
Calling hours are from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Colonial Funeral Home, Weber City, Va., or anytime at the residence of the daughter, Carole Akers.
Services will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Claude Lane and the Rev. Herman Quillen officiating.
Music will be provided by the Harbour Lights.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 11 a.m. at Christian Cemetery, Copper Ridge.
Pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
The family will be meeting at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. to go in procession to the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lawson Memorial Church, c/o Janice Rhoton, 518 Bell Ridge Road, Kingsport, Tenn. 37660.

Dana Hayes
WISE, Va. - Dana Lee Gilbert Hayes, 50, daughter of Margaret Gilbert and the late Harold Gilbert, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at Erlanger Medical Center in Chattanooga, Tenn., as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Carty Funeral Home, Norton-Wise, Va.

Earl Horton
MOUNT CARMEL - Earl Carson Horton, 86, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at 7:50 p.m. at his home.
He was born Sept. 29, 1913 in Hancock County and was the son of the late Noah and Jane Hurd Horton. He had lived in the Ross Camp Ground community since 1952.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Marie Kendrick Horton in 1995; an infant son, Billy Joe Horton in 1956; a brother, Carl A. Horton; and a sister, Elsie Horton.
He was a faithful member of Ross Camp Ground United Methodist Church. He had served in many offices in the church over the years including treasurer, trustee, superintendent of Sunday school and was the longtime chairman of the cemetery committee. He was recognized by the United Methodist Women of the church in 1994 for his outstanding service to the church and community.
He was always active in community service and had been recognized for his work with Boy Scout Troop No. 148 and the Ruritan Club. He also served as a magistrate to Hawkins County court in the 1960s. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic-Pacific, European, African and Middle Eastern Theaters. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded the Bronze Service Star.
He was a member of Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688 and the American Legion Hammond Post No. 3. He retired from the C.E. Division of Eastman Kodak Company in 1974 after 42 years of service.
He was an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves baseball and Volunteer Falcons football. He always enjoyed fishing on the Clinch River in Hancock County.
Surviving are three daughters and their husbands, Johnnie and Bill Hagood, Janie and Gerald Kincheloe and Susie and Danny Charlton, all of Mount Carmel; four grandchildren, Everett Carson Hagood and wife, Michelle and Amye Hagood, all of Church Hill, Kelly Kincheloe, Oak Ridge and Wesley Kincheloe, Mount Carmel; two great-grandsons, Corey Carson Hagood and Casey Allan Hagood, Church Hill; one devoted sister, Hazel Moles, Mount Carmel; sister-in-law, Nell Horton, Kingsport; and special friends, Kathy and Jackie Overbey, Mount Carmel.
Friends may call anytime at the residence, 1011 Independence Avenue, Mount Carmel.
Calling hours are from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. A masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. in the chapel by the Kingsport Masonic Lodge No. 688.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Ross Camp Ground United Methodist Church with the Rev. Calvin Tabor officiating with musical tributes by Larry Smith and Gregory Oliver.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in the Ross Camp Ground Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Ross Camp Ground Cemetery fund, 930 Jackson St., Mount Carmel, Tenn. 37645.
Pallbearers will be Bill Overbey, Bob Overbey, Jackie Overbey Jr., David Jones, Bill Clawson, Steve Jarrett, Ken Mullins and John Horton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Bellamy, Jim Kelly, Chris Kendrick, Cindy Kendrick Arnold, Johnny Hamonds and J.C. Clark.

Willie Ray Kilgore
KINGSPORT - Graveside services for Willie Ray Kilgore, 74, who died Wednesday (May 31, 2000) will be conducted at 2 p.m. today in the Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Lonnie Wooten Jr. officiating. Family and friends will meet at the cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Christine LaGuardia Phillips Cancer Center, c/o Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center, Linda Tanner, P.O. Box 238, Kingsport, Tenn. 37662.
Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, downtown is serving the Kilgore family.

Agnes McCall
LEBANON, Va. - Agnes G. McCall, 78, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) at Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon, Va.
A daughter of the late Henry and Julia Settle Grant, she had lived her entire life in Russell County. She was a retired employee of the Russell County Medical Center.
She was the widow of Jack McCall.
Surviving are two sons, Bob McCall, Lebanon and Charles McCall, Abingdon; two daughters-in-law, Sarah McCall, Lebanon and Randa McCall, Abingdon; four grandsons, Robbie McCall and Phillip McCall, both of Lebanon, Matthew McCall and Kelly McCall, both of Abingdon; one great-granddaughter, Tammy Lee McCall, Lebanon.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Combs Funeral Service Chapel, Lebanon, Va., with the Rev. Darrell Fletcher officiating.
Burial will be in the Green Hills Memory Gardens in Claypool Hill.
Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers.

J.D. McLain
CHURCH HILL - John Delbert ''J.D.'' McLain, Staff Sergent 194th Armor Brigade, 19E Tank Commander, Fort Knox, Ky., 48, went to be with our Lord on Monday (May 29, 2000).
J.D. is preceded in death by his mother, Julia Irene Burchfield McLain.
He is survived by his son, Scott Andrew McLain; daughter-in-law, Megan McLain, Mount Carmel; father, James Elmer McLain Sr., Kingsport; brother, James Elmer McLain Jr. ''Jimmy'', Church Hill; sisters, Ann McLain, Bristol, Tenn., Patricia Smith, Franklin, Tenn., Diana Smith and Sarah McLain, both of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; grandchildren, Taylor and Jordan McLain, Mount Carmel; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 3, at 6 p.m. at Colonial Heights Christian Church, 105 Meadow Lane, for all friends and family.

Elsie M. Renner
MOUNT CARMEL - Elsie M. Renner, 92, 430 Spruce St., passed away Thursday (June 1, 2000) at Holston Valley Hospital and Medical Center after a brief illness.
Mrs. Renner was a native of Greene County but had spent most of her adult life in Hawkins County. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Church Hill.
She is preceded in death by her husband, James E. Renner; daughter, Barbara Byrd; son, David C. Renner; her parents, David and Frances Holt Waddell; sisters, Lyda Waddell Seaton and Ioda Waddell Solomon; brothers, Herbert L. Waddell, Claude W. Waddell and Luke C. Waddell; grandson, Ruben Burchfield Jr.
Surviving are one daughter, Wanda Renner Burchfield, Del City, Okla; one son, Dale Renner, Mohave Valley, Ariz.; son-in-law, Bill Byrd, Church Hill; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen Waddell Collins, Greenville, Beatrice Waddell Witt, Kingsport; two brothers, Oscar L. Waddell and Clinton E. Waddell, both of Greenville; several nieces and nephew's.
Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Johnson Funeral Home and anytime at the residence.
Services will be conducted today at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary Gerhardt officiating.
Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. at Ross Camp Ground Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Waddell, Gary Waddell, Tim Witt, Steve Witt, Kenneth Luster, Troy Alley and Lynn Parker.

Jeremy Roark
Services for Jeremy David Roark, 20, Rogersville, who went to be with Jesus Wednesday (May 31, 2000) will be conducted at 11 a.m. today in the Colboch-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Rogersville, with the Rev. Johnny Carr, the Rev. Dayton Lovin and the Rev. Keith Osborne officiating.
Interment will be in the Carpenter Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial scholarship fund for students attending Cherokee High School in Jeremy's name has been set up at the First Community Bank.

Elizabeth Sturgill and Emily Sturgill
WISE, Va. - Katherine Elizabeth ''Beth'' Sturgill, 28 and Emily Katelyn Sturgill, 4, died Thursday (June 1, 2000) from injuries sustained in a fire at the residence.
Beth was a graduate of John I. Burton High School and Mountain Empire Community College. She was of the Episcopal faith.
Emily attended Esserville Freewill Baptist Church and Childrens' Church.
Beth is survived by her husband, Greg Sturgill; parents, Andrew and Kathy Moore, Norton, Va.; two brothers, Christian D. Moore and Andrew D. Moore, both of Norton, Va.; sister, Patricia A. Johnson, Norton, Va.; maternal grandfather, Ernest E. Harris, Hamilton, Ala.; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray G. Ross, Lexington, Ky.; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Emily is survived by her father, Greg Sturgill; paternal grandparents, Glenda S. Sturgill, Wise, Va., and the late Charles R. Sturgill; maternal grandparents, Andrew and Kathy Moore, Norton, Va.; paternal great-grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray G. Ross, Lexington, Ky.; maternal great-grandfather, Ernest E. Harris, Hamilton, Ala.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Hagy Funeral home, Norton, Va.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at Esserville Freewill Baptist Church with the Revs. Jim Smith and James H. Kilgore Jr. officiating.
Beth and Emily will be taken to the church one hour before services.
Burial will be in the Laurel Grove Cemetery, Norton.

Betty Jo Surber
ROSE HILL, Va. - Betty Jo Surber, 57, died June 1, 2000 in Rose Hill, Va.
She was a lifelong resident of Lee County, Va., and a member of the Rose Dale Baptist Church in Rose Hill, Va.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Maude Pauley; two brothers, Manford Pauley and Junior Pauley; three sisters, Joy Pauley, Cynthia Spicer and Pearl Harris.
Surviving are her husband, Sidney Surber, Rose Hill, Va.; one son, Ricky Surber, Rose Hill, Va.; one daughter, Virginia and husband Louise Walker, Ewing, Va.; two grandchildren, Dustin and Devin Surber; three brothers, Boyd Pauley, Ewing, Va., Bill Pauley, Rose Hill, Va., and Robert Pauley, Ypsilanti, Mich.; three sisters, Lee Curran, Maryland, Hessie Osborne, Rose Hill, Va., and Alnedita Buchanan, Davidsonville, Ind.
Calling hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Arney-Mullins Funeral Home, Rose Hill, Va.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. John Zion officiating.
Burial will be in the Crockett Cemetery, Rose Hill, Va.

William Tate
CHURCH HILL - Graveside services for William E. Tate, 87, 109 Pine St., who died at 10 a.m. Thursday (June 1, 2000) will be conducted at 1 p.m. today at the East Lawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Curtis Tate, Mark Sandidge, Brian Tate, Walter Mullins, Emory Mullins, Harold Tate, Donnie Tate and Wayne Mullins.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jerry Tate and Ronnie Tate.
Johnson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

John Thomason
KINGSPORT - John Thomason, passed away Friday (June 2, 2000) at his residence after a period of declining health.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by East Lawn Funeral Home who is serving the Thomason family.
