Leo Brenner
NORFOLK - Leo Brenner, 84, died Jan. 14, 2008. He was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Norfolk, to Fannie and
Hymie Brenner.
He attended Norfolk Public Schools and graduated with a B.A. degree from The College of William and Mary. He was a veteran of World War II and served as a first lieutenant in the European Theatre of Operations. He was a real estate broker until his retirement in 1990 and was actively engaged in all phases of real estate from development to property management. He was a member of Temple Israel, Norfolk Sports Club and the Gold Band Club.
Leo was predeceased by his wife and soulmate, Alice, who was the love of his life for 60 years. She was his constant companion on the golf course and traveling. He was also predeceased by his brother, Fred Brenner; brothers-in-law, Milton Jacobson and Harry Hurwitz; and nephews, Michael and Joey Brenner.
He is survived by his daughter, Nancy and son in-law Bobby Broock; his three grandchildren, Seth Broock, Chelsea Broock, Melissa McDowell and great-grandchild Grace; his sisters-in-law, Marion Jacobson, Shyrlee Hurwitz and Pearl Brenner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Rabbi Michael Panitz will conduct a graveside service today in Forest Lawn Cemetery at 11 a.m. Altmeyer Funeral Home, Southside Chapel, is handling the arrangements. You may share condolences with the family at www.Altmeyer.com.

James R. Embleton
VIRGINIA BEACH - James R. “Jim” Embleton passed away Jan. 13, 2008. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Phyllis and his daughters,
Susan and her husband Barry Sprouse and Laura Embleton, all of Virginia Beach. He leaves behind four grandchildren, Marine Staff Sgt. Ryan Eldredge, Matthew and Joshua Eldredge and Barry Sprouse Jr.; his sister, Doris Silveria and her children of Sacramento, Calif.; and his “adopted” daughter, Christine Gomes of Lake Arrowhead, Calif.
Jim served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He spent many years in Lake Arrowhead, Calif. as a Realtor before moving to Virginia Beach in 1968. For more than 16 years he was executive director and later director of sales and marketing for a well-known, non-profit organization in Virginia Beach. He then returned to real estate and continued to work as a Realtor with William E. Wood until his death. One of his greatest enjoyments was sharing games of tennis with his friends each week.
Jim will be inurned at Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, D.C. with naval honors and a memorial ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 10.
