Mary F. Coose
Mary F. Coose of Columbia died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Boone Retirement Center. She was 90.
Mrs. Coose lived her entire life in Columbia, working as a clerk. She was also a member of the Wilkes Boulevard United Methodist Church.
She was born Sept. 2, 1910, in Callaway County to James T. and Necia Brunner Woods. She married C.H. Davis, who died earlier. She then married Wilford Coose.
Visitation for Mrs. Coose will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Parker Funeral Service, 22 N. Tenth St. Services, conducted by the Rev. Michael Keith, will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 West.
Several nieces and nephews survive Mrs. Coose.
Her husband, two sisters and three brothers died earlier.
Gertrude C. Sutton
Gertrude C. Sutton of Columbia died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at Williamsburg retirement home. She was 89.
Her daughter, Judy Campbell of Columbia, described Mrs. Sutton as a "sweet lady who never caused any trouble for anybody."
Mrs. Sutton was born Sept. 25, 1911, in St. Louis to Emil Leo Eisenberg and Wilhelmina Emilia Herman Eisenberg. She married Willard Sutton on June 16, 1931, in Breese, Ill.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. George's Episcopal Church in Belleville, Ill. Services, conducted by the Rev. Rod Wiltsie, will follow at 11 a.m. Mrs. Sutton will be buried at Walnut Hill Cemetery in Belleville.
Mrs. Sutton is survived by two daughters, Judy Campbell of Columbia and Amy Oberbauer of Manassas, Va.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband died earlier.

Archie B. Warren
The Rev. Archie Benson Warren of Columbia died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his home. He was 74.
Mr. Warren was a pastor at churches in Texas, Arkansas and Missouri for 53 years. He also was director of missions for the Little Bonne Femme Baptist Association for 10 years.
Mr. Warren was born Aug. 30, 1926, in Newton County to Archie L. and Nellie Dahl Warren. He married Doris Jean Hogan on June 6, 1948, in Joplin. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II. He received several degrees.
Visitation for Mr. Warren will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at Parkade Baptist Church, 2102 N. Garth Ave. Services, conducted by the Rev. William Watts, the Rev. Jack Coleman and the Rev. David Goode, will follow at 3 p.m. Mr. Warren will be buried in Ozark Memorial Park in Joplin.
He is survived by his wife, Doris Warren of Columbia; three daughters, Kathryn Besancenez of Camdenton, Susan Imboden of Johnson City, Tenn. and Martha Lindsay of Gastonia, N.C.; three sons, David Warren of Kansas City, Stephen Warren of Camdenton and Timothy Warren of Old Hickory, Tenn.; two sisters of Monrovia, Calif.; one brother of Corona, Calif.; and 14 grandchildren.

Orrin J. Lashbrook
Orrin J. Lashbrook of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at his home. He was 77.
Mr. Lashbrook was born March 21, 1923, in Bardolph, Ill. to Orrin Miller and Aleda Ellen Weightman Lashbrook.
He married Jeanne Vandervort in 1945 in Bloomington, Ill. She later died. He married Dorothy Burchfield in 1984 in Columbia. She also died earlier.
He attended Western Illinois State Teachers College and received his bachelor's degree at Columbia College.
He moved to Columbia in 1956. In 1985 he moved to Marshfield where he was a consultant with American National Property and Casualty Company.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Day Funeral Home in Marshfield with the Rev. Lynn Dyke officiating. Burial will be at the Marshfield Cemetery.
Mr. Lashbrook is survived by two daughters, Connie Shearin and Linda Rouse, both of Columbia; one brother, Charles Lashbrook of Danville, Ill.; and four grandchildren.

Josie Johnson
Josie Johnson of Fulton died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001. She was 86.
"She took care of us and raised us," said her sister, Flora Green. "She was both a sister and a mother to me and Doc," referring to her brother Henderson "Doc" Johnson.
Ms. Johnson was born Oct. 10, 1914, in Englewood to William H. and Blanche Little Johnson. She was employed at Stephens College for several years.
Her sister described her as a hard-working person who enjoyed quilting in her spare time. Ms. Johnson was also a member of Centralia United Methodist Church.
Visitation for Ms. Johnson will be from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W., with services following. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Johnson is survived by two brothers, Oscar Johnson of Ashland and Henderson "Doc" Johnson of Englewood; her sister, Flora Green of Ashland; four nieces; and three nephews.
Five brothers and a sister died earlier.
Elzie McCutchen
Elzie "Joe" McCutchen of Columbia died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at his home. He was 58.
Mr. McCutchen was born March 30, 1942, in Charleston to William and Zettie McCutchen. He attended school in Charleston and then served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1963. Mr. McCutchen moved to Columbia in 1966. He worked in the concrete business for many years. He was married to Jeanne Nadine Straight from 1969 to 1974. On Dec. 24, 1988, he married Margaret Whitener.
Visitation for Mr. McCutchen will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. Services, conducted by the Rev. Greg Dickerman, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. McCutchen is survived by his wife; one son, Joe McCutchen of Columbia; two stepdaughters, Cyndi Walker of Gravois Mills and Candice Whitener of Sunrise Beach; two stepsons, Arnold Perkins and Donnie Perkins, both of Columbia; two brothers, Ernest Glen McCutchen of Jefferson City and Morris McCutchen of East Prairie; four sisters, Virginia Dickerman of Granite City, Ill., Faye Ann Jeffries of Kansas City, Thelma Simmerman of Colorado and Juanita Trout of Oklahoma; and six grandchildren.
His parents, two brothers and one sister died earlier.

Lillian F. Menaugh
Lillian F. Menaugh, an Elm Tree area native, died Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at her home in Harrisburg. She was 81.
Mrs. Menaugh was born Oct. 26, 1919, in Boone County to Emmett E. Lewis and Illa Stice Lewis. She married Harold Menaugh on Nov. 18, 1939, in Boone County.
"She enjoyed being with people and had a positive attitude," her daughter, Vickie Spry, said.
Mrs. Menaugh owned and operated the Gem Fountain and Grill inside the Gem Drug Store. She later owned and operated the Hinton Grocery Store. She was also a member of Dripping Spring Christian Church.
"She was active in her church," Spry said. "She enjoyed quilting and the social activities the church held."
Visitation for Mrs. Menaugh will be from noon to 2 p.m. Thursday at Nilson Funeral Home, 5611 St. Charles Road. Services, conducted by the Rev. Fred Erickson, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Menaugh is survived by a son, Ed Menaugh of Paducah, Ky.; two daughters, Karen McBride and Vickie Spry, both of Harrisburg; and five grandchildren.
Her husband and three sisters died earlier.

Kermit K. Young
Kermit K. Young of Columbia died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Columbia Regional Hospital. He was 93.
Mr. Young's pastor, the Rev. Maureen Dickmann of Rock Bridge Christian Church, remembered his quiet activism. Like the Nike motto, Dickmann said Mr. Young "just did it."
"He let his actions speak for him," Dickmann said.
As a deacon in the church and a volunteer at the soup kitchen operated by St. Francis House, Mr. Young was dependable.
"He quietly did the hard, unnoticed work with a gentle, self-deprecating humor," Dickmann said.
Mr. Young was born Nov. 27, 1907, in Trenton, Mo., to Orin and Minnie Cole Young. He attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and graduated from the University of Nebraska.
In 1934, he married Marian Kellor in Lincoln, Neb. She later died. In 1988, he married Carolyn Lewellen Daly in Grand Rapids, Mich.
For 39 years, Mr. Young worked as a civil engineer for the U.S. Department of the Interior in Denver and Washington, D.C. He worked on several dam projects, including Hoover Dam. In 1973 he retired while living in Arlington, Va. Later he moved to Lenoir Retirement Community in Columbia.

Oneida Broadus
Oneida Broadus
Oneida Broadus of Fayette died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Fayette Caring Center. She was 68.
Mrs. Broadus was born Jan. 15, 1933, in Fayette to parents Estill and Mary Opal Jones.
Growing up, Mrs. Broadus often went on family fishing trips.
"She loved to fish," her sister, Matilda Tindall, said.
From a young age, Mrs. Broadus cultivated a talent and love for cooking by cleaning and cooking the day's catch.
"She's an excellent cook," Tindall said.
Mrs. Broadus' knack for cooking continued throughout adulthood. She secured kitchen positions at an MU sorority house and several nursing homes in Fayette.
According to her sister, Melissa Graves, Mrs. Broadus always cared "'bout other people more than herself."
"If you didn't have a home to stay, she'd let you stay a while," Graves said.
She even took in her ex-husband, Raydell Powell, after his new wife left him when he became sick, and cared for him until his death.
"She was awful good," Tindall said. "Wasn't nobody she wouldn't take in to stay there."
Visitation for Mrs. Broadus will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Friday at H.T. May & Son Funeral Home, 304 Walter St. in Fayette. Services, with the Rev. Horace Hopkins officiating, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Linn Memorial United Methodist Church, 409 N. Church St., Fayette. Burial in Fayette City Cemetery will follow the services.
Mrs. Broadus is survived by two sons, Raydell Skip Powell Jr. and Bill Powell of Fayette; two sisters, Matilda Tindall and Melissa Graves of Fayette; one niece, her namesake Oneida Jones Harris, of Fayette; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
One infant son, three sisters and a granddaughter died earlier.
Carl W. Caldwell
Carl W. Caldwell
A dedicated pilot and loving grandfather, Carl W. Caldwell died Sunday as a result of an auto accident on U.S. 63 near Deer Park.
Mr. Caldwell, 58, of Ashland, was born April 18, 1942, in Springfield, Mo., to Virgil and Bessie Mae Welch Caldwell. He grew up in Louisburg, where his love for planes was kindled. While going to high school in Buffalo, Mr. Caldwell learned to fly. Later he attended MU and was a member of MU's flying class. He graduated from MU with a degree in electrical engineering.
Mr. Caldwell fueled his love for planes by joining the Missouri Pilot Association and serving in the Navy. He married Janet Umland on June 7, 1974. Several years after his marriage, Mr. Caldwell began his own business. His company, Caldwell Computing Technologies, gave him ample opportunity to pursue his love of flying.
Flying wasn't his only love. In his spare time, Mr. Caldwell enjoyed bicycling, hiking and spending time with his grandchildren.
His family remembers him as a kind, loving man.
"He never had a bad word to say about anybody," said his daughter, Karen Schack of Lincoln, Neb.
Mr. Caldwell is also survived by his wife Janet; his son, Charles Pugsley of San Diego, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Caldwell will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Robinson Funeral Home, 601 Henry Clay Blvd., in Ashland. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, 914 West Blvd. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Louisburg Cemetery in Louisburg, Mo.

Lena Mae Miller
Lena Mae Miller
Lena Mae Miller of Columbia died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, at University Hospital. She was 92.
Mrs. Miller was born in Baskin, La., on Feb. 5, 1908, to William Randolph and Rosa Mae Howington Phillips.
She grew up in Louisiana and later lived in New Mexico. She married John Wesley Miller on May 29, 1931, in Wisner, La.
As a young woman she was a schoolteacher, working first in a one-room school and then teaching third grade. Later she became a housewife.
"She was very independent," Cheryl Miller Heesch, her daughter, said. "She remained that way until she died."
Mrs. Miller is remembered by her daughter as a "true Southern lady." She enjoyed sewing, crocheting and playing bridge. Heesch said her mother had a "no-nonsense" approach to life - she didn't believe in worrying. She said Mrs. Miller insisted on looking forward, not behind.
Mrs. Miller was a member of Fairview Road Church of Christ. She was a Christian her entire adult life - very "loving and caring," her daughter said.
She came to Columbia two years ago to be near her daughter.
Visitation for Mrs. Miller will at Memorial Funeral Home, 1217 Business Loop 70 W. on Friday. Services, conducted by the Rev. Eddie Randolph, will begin at 1 p.m. Mrs. Miller's body will be cremated.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Miller Heesch of Columbia; two grandchildren, Jack Todd Heesch of Anchorage, Alaska, and Kathryn Dana Burnett of Lakeland, Fla.; and two great-grandchildren, John Edward Burnett and Amy Kathryn Burnett.
Her husband and a son died earlier.

Mark Edward Scott
Mark Edward Scott of Independence died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, of cardiac arrest due to a brain hemorrhage at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia. He was 45.
Mr. Scott was born May 6, 1955, in Sweet Springs and was raised in the Quarry Heights subdivision of Columbia.
As a child, he was a charter member of Boy Scout Troop 707 and attended Hickman High School.
In 1977, Scott graduated from Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. He was also a little league baseball coach and an avid hunter and fisherman.
In his later years, he owned and operated two sales and marketing recruiting businesses in Independence.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife Donna J. Scott of Independence; two sons, Brandon Scott, 15, and Tyler Scott, 11, of Independence; his mother Marlene Scott of Blue Springs; two brothers, Greg Scott of Columbia and Tim Scott of Kansas City; and his maternal grandmother, Beulah Plummer of Sweet Springs.
Burial was at Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs. on Jan. 4, 2001.

Dorothy Hickam
Dorothy Fern Hickam of Columbia died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, at Boone Hospital Center. She was 89.
Ms. Hickam was born Sept. 28, 1911, in Boone County to Owen C. and Nellie Alice Roddy Hickam.
She graduated from Hickman High School in 1929.
Ms. Hickam was a charter member of both the Aphelia Shepherd Extension and the Rock Bridge Elementary School PTA.
She was also a member of the Boone County Democrat Club, Warren Extension and King's Daughters.
For more than 38 years, Ms. Hickam worked as a deputy in the Office of the Boone County Assessor.
Graveside services, officiated by the Rev. Charles Parker, were held Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery, 1217 Business Loop 70 W.
Ms. Hickam is survived by two nieces, Linda Hickam of Thompson and Mary Snyder of Washington; and a sister-in-law, Inez Hickam of Columbia.
Her parents and a brother died earlier.
