Dominic SUPINO
93, of Seattle, died July 21, 2002 at his home.
He was born in Italy and came to the US and Seattle as a young child. He had lived here 90 years. Dominic worked for many years for the U.S. Postal Service and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his sons, Jerry, Bob (Diane) and Tom Supino; grandchildren Jason, Ryan and Dina-Marie Supino; brothers Lou Smith and John Supino; and his sister, Mary Menzil.
IN MEMORIAM: Dominic Supino died Sunday at his Beacon Hill home, robbing the Seattle golf community of one of its most enthusiastic players. He was 93.
Through the past year, Supino had played at Jefferson Park three times weekly, usually 18 holes, always walking. He once estimated he had completed more than 12, 000 rounds since a friend encouraged him to take a swing in 1924 or '25. He never had a golf lesson, but played to a 10 handicap at one time, collected a low round of 69 and sank four holes-in-one.
A former mail carrier, Supino stayed fit into his advancing years simply by walking. "I believe age is a state of mind," he told the P-I two years ago. "You're as old as you think you are. If you said, 'You're 91, and you should be in a wheelchair,' that's where I'd be."
With his health starting to fail, Supino's final golf round was nine holes with close friend Beatrice Olson at Jefferson Park in mid-May.
Supino led a full life, but he had one golf wish go unfulfilled: He didn't break 100. As a golfer, he fell seven years short.

The following was written by his twin sister, Dolores:
My brother lived the life he wanted. Served in the Marines, Camp Pendleton, California. He lived all over, settling here in Washington about three years ago, from California. Full of adventure, variety, never quite happy just sitting still. He loved playing pool, fishing, darts, music, reading and just watching movies. The last couple of years he worked for Seahawk Opticals in the company's shipping receiving area, packaging up glass frames for mailing out to various customers.
I love my brother who now is in God's care. We will always be spiritually connected.

Willie Russell, 71, of Seattle, died July 29, 2002 at the Veterans Medical Center in Seattle.
He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years and worked for many years as a superintendent for the National Park Service. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He is survived by his wife Claretta of Seattle.
Following is a tribute to Willie written by his wife:
Bill (Willie Russell) is gone, but never will he be forgotten. His sense of humor and the little twinkle he always had in his eyes will always be with each of us who knew him well. No one could be more caring, compassionate and loving to another as he was to his wife. They had over 25 wonderful years of marriage.
Bill's smile and his caring way with words would just put anybody at ease regardless of the tasks encountered. It is amazing the number of people he was responsible for getting promoted during his second career as a Park Manager in the Nationai Park Services.
He was not one to seek recognition for anything he did noteworthy in his life. This man was one of those men who loved his family and was always willing to give a helping hand even before he was asked. He was never one to avoid the responsibilities and obligations that came with a family as well as friends. You could always feel that he could relate to whatever you were going through, be it a high or low moment. He had a way of putting life's little bumps in the road in the proper perspective.
His optimistic outlook on life itself was contagious ... even at the very end of his life. He never stopped hoping. God needed an angel with great hope and optimism; therefore Bill was chosen for this task.
We can all be assured that Bill will continue to be of service. It was a joy and a pleasure to have lived so many years with such an independent and compassionate husband.
His Deeply grateful & Loving Wife

Claire Marie Lewis
Claire Marie Lewis, 60, died on February 5, 2004 in Fort Smith, Arkansas, after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Seattle, Washington, on February 8, 1943 to Joseph and Elizabeth Kremer. She enjoyed growing up in the Rainier Valley where she attended St. Mary's Elementary School. She graduated in 1961 from Franklin High School. Following high school graduation, Claire followed in her mother's footsteps and went to work for Seattle City Light. Claire enjoyed the countless friends she made while working at City Light, and continued her employment there for thirty years, until her retirement as Customer Service Manager in 1996.
After retirement, Claire joined her daughter, Heather, and her son-in-law, Brant, in Phoenix, Arizona, where she cared for her newborn granddaughter, Claire Rose. She spent three years in Phoenix where the family grew with the addition of her grandson, Brayden Joseph. In between caring for her beloved grandchildren, Claire welcomed many of her Seattle friends as they visited Arizona. While she loved being with her family, she wouldn't have missed the one hundred and twenty degree days.
In January 2000, Brant's job took the family to Sierra Madre, California, and Claire moved once again. She became a regular visitor to Disneyland and found great excitement in attending the plays, recitals, and school activities of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed many family vacations to Arkansas, Florida, Missouri, Mississippi, and Nevada.
In October 2003, the family moved again, this time to Brant's hometown of Fort Smith, Arkansas. Claire was looking forward to her new life with Brant's large family, but unfortunately, she became very ill soon after the move. She spent time in a beautiful retirement community until her illness progressed and the demands of her care forced her to spend her last few weeks in a nursing home. As always, Claire spent her days looking forward to the daily visits from her grandchildren. Hospice caregivers did a wonderful job of keeping Claire comfortable and free of pain, so she was able to pass peacefully.
Per her request, Claire was cremated and her ashes were laid to rest with her parents at Calvary Cemetery in Seattle. A Seattle memorial service will be planned for a future date. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Peachtree Hospice, 4300 Rogers Avenue, Suite 33, Fort Smith, Arkansas, 72903.
