(1935-2001)
PEKIN - Lester J. "Les" Wernowsky, Sr., 66, of 1807 Victoria Drive in Pekin died at 3:08 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001 at his residence.
Born April 28, 1935 in Pekin to Lester "Mike" and Adele Marie Jouvenaux Wernowsky, he married Leota F. "Lee" Pierce in Las Vegas. She survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Lester J. (Kathy) Wernowsky, Jr. of Glasford, Frank R. Abbott of Palmdale, California, Alan D. (Marti) Wernowsky, Dennis S. Abbott and Robert W. (Robyn) Wernowsky, all of Pekin; five daughters, Debra "Debbie" (Brad) Anderson, Carol L. (Tim) Borieo, both of Beatty, NV, Denise D. "Dede" Wernowsky of Yuma, Arizona, Deborah M. "Debbie" Luedke of Hatley, Wisconsin and Diane K. (Bob) Nelson of Las Vegas; nineteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Dale E. (Shirley) Schott of Groveland and Donald Schott of Pekin and two half-sisters, Sharon K. (Ronald) Reid and Sandra S. Schott, both of Pekin.
His parents and one brother preceded him in death.
He enlisted with the United States Marine Corps on October 22, 1953 and retired on October 1, 1983 with the rank of Sergeant. He was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He also was a recipient of the Purple Heart.
Since 1981, he has worked in the family owned and operated business, The Bait Place, located at 601 South 2nd Street in Pekin.
He was a member of the Marine Corps. League in Pekin. He was a diehard Cubs fan. He also enjoyed shooting pool and fishing. In earlier years, he enjoyed bowling.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in War Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Pekin, where military graveside rites will be accorded by the United States Marine Corps.

ROBERT J. COOK
(1957-2001)
Bartonville, Illinois - Robert J. "Bob" Cook, 44, of 8132 North 32nd Drive in Phoenix, Arizona, formerly of Bartonville, died at 11:20 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at John C. Lincoln Hospital in Phoenix.
He was born March 30, 1957 in Peoria, Illinois to Robert Bailey and Patricia June Sholl Cook.
Surviving are his mother, Patricia J. Cook of Bellevue, Illinois; two brothers, Timothy B. Cook of Colorado Springs, Colorado and John J. Cook of Greeley, Colorado; one niece, Ashley B. Cook of Colorado Springs, Colorado and one nephew, Travis Cook of California.
His father preceded him in death.
He was a graduate of Limestone High School in Bartonville.
Mr. Cook was a computer-aided design operator for Thomas Reprographics in Phoenix for many years, last working in September 2000. He formerly worked as a waiter.
He proudly designed the winning logo for the Village of Bartonville at the time of the 200th anniversary in 1976. The logo design appeared on the village police cars for many years.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. Deacon Louis M. Tomlianovich will officiate. Cremation will be accorded. Burial of ashes will be in Springdale Cemetery in Peoria at a later date.

ELSIE M. RAMSEY
(1907-2001)
Pekin, Illinois - Elsie Marie Ramsey, 93, of 1717 Deppert Drive in Pekin, formerly of Union, Missouri, died at 9:51 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois.
Born September 6, 1907 in St. Louis, Missouri to Albert and Mary Aubenschein Koenig, she married George Ramsey on December 21, 1929 in St. Louis. He died May 29, 2000 in Pekin. Her parents also preceded her in death.
Surviving is her daughter, Lorene M. Ramsey of Pekin.
She worked for the Crowder Bookbindery Company in St. Louis for several years. She later worked 11 years as a cook at Union Grade School in Union, Missouri.
She enjoyed cooking; sewing and working crossword puzzles. She also enjoyed walking.
She was of the United Church of Christ faith.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Oltmann Funeral Home in Union. The Rev. David Brune will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. tonight (Friday) at the funeral home in Union. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Union. Local arrangements are by Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the National Stroke Association, 9707 East Easter Lane, Englewood, Colorado 80112 (1-800-Strokes) or to a charity of the donor - s choice.

J. KEITH MCGEE
(1920-2001)
PEKIN - Jay Keith "Mac" McGee, 80, of 722 Park Avenue in Pekin, formerly of Ogden, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, May 27, 2001 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
Born October 31, 1920 in Ogden to Samuel L. and Nellie B. McKinney McGee, he married Dorothy J. Poppenhouse Lucas on July 17, 1965 in Eureka. She survives.
Also surviving are one daughter, Linda C. (David) Arnston; one son, Kevin M. McGee, both of Seattle, Washington; one brother, Theodore E. (Patricia) McGee of Tyler, Texas and two sisters, Harriett M. Creighton and Mary F. Slade, both of Champaign.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one stepson, James Jeffery Lucas; two brothers, Kenneth J. McGee and Robert S. McGee and one sister, Etta Belle Schmidt.
He was a graduate of the Ogden Community High School.
He was a World War II Army veteran, serving from 1942 to 1946. He attained the rank of Sergeant. He was a member of the Limestone American Legion Post No. 979 in Bartonville and Bartonville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 3883.
He worked for 8 years at Caterpillar, Inc., where he also played basketball. He then worked out of Teamsters and Chauffeurs Union Local 627 in Peoria from 1961 for until retiring in 1981 from Bosch Trucking in Bartonville. He also worked in earlier years as a union driver for Sealtest. He was a member of the Teamsters Retirees.
He was a member of First Christian Church in Pekin, where he attended the Eveready Sunday school class. He also was a member of the Tazewell County Farm Bureau.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at First Christian Church in Pekin. The Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. His American Legion post will accord military honors following services at the church.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2001 at Cedar Ridge Cemetery at Honey Bend, near Litchfield. The Rev. D. Jay Johnson will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, 1201 Chestnut Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

CHRISTINE N. HALL
(1979-2001)
EAST PEORIA - Christine Nichole Hall, 22, of 101 Star Rim Drive, East Peoria, died at 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001 at her residence.
She was born May 19, 1979 in Peoria to Charles Allen and Diane Kay Daniel Hall.
Surviving are her parents of East Peoria; one brother, Daniel Allen Hall of Bartonville; one sister, Carla Kay (and Mark) Rich of Cary; one nephew, Trent Edward Rich of Cary; and grandparents, William E. and Mary E. Daniel and Charles D. and Elsie L. Hall, all of Creve Coeur.
Christine graduated May 30, 2000 from Schramm Educational Center in Pekin.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Creve Coeur Chapel. The Rev. Vaughn A. Hoffman will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fondulac Cemetery in East Peoria.

DENNIS R. FLETCHER
(1954-2001)
GREEN VALLEY - Dennis Roy Fletcher, 46, of 209 Falcon Drive, Green Acres Subdivision, rural Green Valley, died at 9:13 a.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2001 at his residence.
Born June 24, 1954 in Pekin to Kenneth and Helen Miller Fletcher, he married Kimberly A. Griffin on June 17, 1983 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his mother of Mason City; two sons, SRA Jeremiah D. Fletcher of Scott AFB and Jason M. Fletcher of Texas; two daughters, Amanda L. (Joshua) Varney of Pekin and Elizabeth A. Fletcher at home; two granddaughters, Kristin Nicole Fletcher of Scott AFB and Heather Ann Nicole Varney of Pekin and one brother, Kent Fletcher of Champaign. He also leaves a special aunt, Evelyn Fletcher of Pekin. His father preceded him in death.
He was a 1972 graduate of Forman High School in Manito. He also was a graduate of Police Training Institute in Springfield.
He was employed with the Forest City Police Department since 1996, last working in October 2000 as sergeant. He worked as a fulltime police officer with the Manito Police Department from 1996 to 1999. He previously worked as a patrolman for the Village of Creve Coeur from 1980 to 1989. He also did carpentry work for STF Custom Builders of Metamora since 1999.
He worked for Nestle Food Company in Morton doing machine repair from 1989 to 1995 and was a millwright for Strom Engineering at Caterpillar from 1995 to 1996.
During the 1970 - s, he worked for Caterpillar, Inc. as an assembler; for the Nichois Harbor Service in Pekin as a dispatcher; and for C.W. Woiwode Plastering of Forest City as a plasterer. He also worked part-time for AA Ambulance in Pekin and East Peoria.
He was an IHSA baseball and basketball certified referee throughout Central Illinois.
He loved fishing.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Thomas B. Guengerich and Rev. Daryl Burks will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Meadow Lawn Cemetery in Manito.
Memorials may be made to an educational fund established for his daughter, Elizabeth, in care of National City Bank, 3545 Court Street, Pekin, Illinois 61554.

LULA M. FOX
(1912-2001)
EAST PEORIA - Lula Margaret Fox, 88, of 546 Chicago Street in East Peoria died at 8:25 a.m. Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at her residence.
Born July 19, 1912 in rural Liberty to Duffield and Nellie Viola Hessert Clark, she married Lester Edward Fox on January 19, 1930 in Hannibal, Missouri. He died November 30, 1978 in East Peoria. She also was preceded in death by one brother, William Clark and one sister, Iola Constable.
Surviving are three sons, Raymond L. (Marcella) Fox of Peoria, Edward E. "Gene" (Earline) Fox of Pittsburg, Missouri and Richard L. Fox of East Peoria; one daughter, Carolyn M. (Bobby) Ogle of Pekin; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She worked for the Brown Shoe Factory, which later became the International Shoe Factory in Hannibal. She also had worked at the Peoria Journal Star.
She enjoyed Christian music.
She was a member of the Grace Chapel Baptist Church in Marquette Heights.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 25, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. George E. Walker will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry.

CHARLES A. FULK
(1963-2001)
PEKIN - Charles Alan "Chuck" Fulk, 38, of 1020 Mechanic Street in Pekin was pronounced dead at 5:45 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001 in Pekin. He was formerly of San Jose.
Born March 10, 1963 in Peoria to Darrell D. and Deloris J. McLaughlin Fulk, he married Theresa A. "T.C." Roberts on March 11, 1994 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents of San Jose; one daughter, Alicia Jean Marie Fulk at home; one sister, Teresa K. "Teri" (Jon) Hamilton of San Jose; two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Thomas and Frieda Matilda Acturburg McLaughlin and Amos Dewey and Alma Keith Fulk.
He was a 1981 graduate of San Jose High School.
He was employed as a warehouseman in the shipping department of Continental Carbonic Products, Inc. in Pekin for the past one year and three months, last working Thursday.
He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 399 of Chicago.
He enjoyed working on cars. He also enjoyed playing pool and shooting darts.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001 at the Lutheran Cemetery in Peoria. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel.
Memorials may be made to an educational fund established for his daughter in care of Redbrand Credit Union, 2910 Court Street, Pekin, IL 61554.

DONNA MAE SCHRAUB
(1927-2001)
PEKIN - Donna Mae Schraub, 73, of 305 Fairlane Street in Pekin, died at 7:00 a.m. Sunday, May 20, 2001 at the Pekin Living and Rehabilitation Center.
Born June 26, 1927 in Canton to Walter E. and Leila Hedden Hahn, she married Charles Russell Schraub, Sr. on April 20, 1946 in Bartonville. He survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Rodney A. (Debra) Schraub and Charles R. (Joyce) Schraub, Jr., both of Pekin; five grandchildren, Kenny Johnson, Joshua R. (Cassandra) Schraub, Jennifer M. Medley, Jamie D. Carson and Angie M. Schraub, all of Pekin; six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carole (John) Gruber of Fort Myers, Florida, Marilyn (Delbert) Bressler of Bushnell and Patsy (Allen) Fitton of Largo, Florida and two step-sisters, Joanne Hogle of Avinger, Texas and Jean Hahn of Hollywood, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, William Hahn; her twin sister, Norma Slater; her step-father, Roy Johnson; her step-mother, Irene Hahn and one step-brother, Walter Hahn, Jr.
She worked for Floy - s Nursing Home in Pekin as an aide for several years. She then worked eleven years as an aide at the former Perino - s Nursing Home in Pekin, retiring in 1980.
She was an avid supporter of her children and grandchildren.
She was a member of the Pekin First Church of God.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. H. Gerald Rudd and Rev. R. Keith Heberer will officiate. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria.

GUY W. CLUCK
(1926-2001)
PEKIN - Guy W. Cluck, 74, of 319 Orr Avenue in Pekin died at 10:18 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.
Born September 17, 1926 in Gideon, Missouri to George W. and Madge M. Fleetwood Cluck, he married Donna L. Ashby on July 4, 1952 in Pekin. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susan L. (Richard) Henke of Rochester and Sharon K. (Thomas) Monn of Pekin; one granddaughter, Jennifer L. Fisher of Rochester; one great-grandson, Caleb M. Hulett of Rochester; two brothers, Melvin Cluck of St. Louis, Missouri and Charles Cluck of Gideon, Missouri and one sister, Helen (Sam) Cowart of Malden, Missouri.
He was preceded in death his parents, one brother, Bill Cluck and one sister, Mary Holderman.
He worked 37 years at Caterpillar, Inc in the purchasing department, retiring January 1, 1985. Following retirement he worked part-time at Wal-Mart in Pekin for 13 years, last working in 2000.
He was a 48-year member of Empire Lodge No. 126, Ancient Free & Accepted Masons in Pekin. He also was a former member of the Mohammed Temple, Shrine.
He enjoyed gardening and his yardwork.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 21, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Richard W. Jones will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 4 p.m. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.

HARRIET M. MARSHALL
(1917-2001)
PEKIN - Harriet M. Marshall, 84, of 1004 St. Julian Street in Pekin died at 11:56 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2001 at Pekin Hospital.
Born January 28, 1917 in Sterling to Edward James and Mary Edna Morris Miller, she married Adrian D. Marshall on October 16, 1938 in Pekin. He died June 24, 1997 in Pekin. She also was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Lawrence E. "Bud" Miller and one sister, Rita Faye Barrus.
Surviving are two daughters, Beverly A. (James) Bernier and Eloise F. (Bill) Feuchter, both of Pekin; six grandchildren, Bradley J. (Michelle) Bernier of Morton, Bethany J. (Miguel) Dungo of Carmel, Indiana, William H. Feuchter of Port Charlotte, Florida, Brett J. (Danielle) Bernier, Shannon M. (Tim) Venovich, both of Pekin and Brina J. Bernier of Aurora; thirteen great-grandchildren; one brother, J. Eugene Miller of Pekin and two sisters, Margery A. Cox of Pekin and Catherine E. Goldsby of South Pekin. She also leaves nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Marshall worked as the credit manager for JC Penney - s from December 1, 1959 at the downtown Pekin store until retiring June 1, 1980 from the store located at the Pekin Mall.
She was a member of the Tri-S Club at the Pekin YWCA and was an active participant at the Miller Center. She also was a volunteer at Pekin Hospital for many years.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin.
She enjoyed playing cards, especially euchre and also enjoyed working crossword puzzles.
Her funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, 2001 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin. The Rev. Timothy Nolan will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin.
Memorials may be made to the Pekin Public Library, 301 South 4th Street, the Miller Senior Citizens Center, 551 South 14th Street, or to the YWCA, 315 Buena Vista, all Pekin, Illinois 61554.

LILA L. TOMLINSON
(1912-2001)
PEKIN - Lila Laverne Tomlinson, 88, of 190 E. Queenwood Rd. in Morton, died at 5:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at Morton Villa. She was formerly of Pekin.
Born October 5, 1912 in Pekin, she was a daughter of Albert John and Dessie Melissa Preston Zuckweiler, Sr. She married Leslie Ewing Tomlinson on October 12, 1935 in Peoria.
She was preceded in death by her husband on October 6, 1948 in Fairbury, IL; 1 daughter, Fay Arlene Cookson on September 4, 1981 in Peoria; 1 granddaughter, Bonnie Tomlinson in September 1969 in Seattle, WA; and 2 brothers, Robert Zuckweiler and Albert Zuckweiler, Jr.
Surviving are 3 sons, Roland Dean Tomlinson of Manito, Wayne Edward (Bonnie) Tomlinson of Peoria, and Dale Eugene (Bonnie) Tomlinson of Virginia, IL; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Tomlinson enjoyed crafts and crocheting.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 18, 2001 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin chapel. Rev. Robert N. Brite, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to services at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor - s choice.

ETHEL GRAY
(1913-2001)
PEKIN - Ethel Gray, 87, of 191 East Queenwood Road, Morton, died at 3:05 p.m. Monday, May 14, 2001 at Morton Terrace, Ltd. She was formerly of Pekin and Manito.
Born December 10, 1913 in Goreville to John L. and Lillie B. Graves Thornton, she married George Marion Newton. He died in February of 1941. She then married Oscar I. Bortzfield in 1943. He died December 17, 1954 in Pekin. She later married Lester F. Gray on November 10, 1958 in Pekin. He died January 12, 1994 in rural Manito. Six brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Surviving are one son, Gary M. (and Carol) Newton of Pekin; two grandchildren, Curtis J. (and Debi) Newton of Ruston, Louisiana and Cheryl J. (and Rev. Eric) Hansen of Springfield; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Ann McCarver of Dunedin, Florida.
Mrs. Gray worked as a licensed practical nurse at Pekin Hospital and later for Drs. Teter and Baysinger in Pekin for 40 years.
She was a member of the Forest City Community Church and the Home Extension, both in Forest City.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and sewing.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 17, 2001 at the Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Eric A. Hansen will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Pekin Bible Church or the First Assembly of God in Springfield.
