Nora B. Stockton, 76, of Clio, died Wednesday, March 22, 2000 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Born Feb. 18, 1924 in Clarkton, Mo., she was the daughter of Lonza and Lola (Dame) Presson.
Nora married Robert Stockton, Sept. 13, 1941 in Kennett, Mo. He preceded her in death.
She retired from GM Chevrolet Metal Fab after 30 years of service. She was a member of U.A.W. Local 659.
Surviving are one son, Larry Allen of Clio; one daughter, Robin and husband Val Allison of Clio; six grandchildren, Eric, Terra, Kim, Briget, Renee and Robby; nine great-grandchildren, Tiffani, Trisha, Tommy, DJ, Jenny, Dillon, Dakota, Montana, and Alexis; one sister, Lora Boid of Belleville, Ind.; one brother, JB Presson of Owosso; several nieces and nephews; and loving pet and companion, Mandy. Special thanks to Dr. Taboob for his loving compassion.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Brown Funeral Home with Major John Mowers officiating. Burial followed at Sunset Hills Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society or to an animal shelter of the donor's choice.
Dr. William E. Wooster, D.O., 73, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000 in Phoenix, Ariz. of respiratory disease.
Born Jan. 11, 1927 in London, Ontario, Canada, he was the son of Ernest and Gladys Wooster.
Bill grew up in Rosedale Gardens, Livonia. He graduated from Cass Tech High School and the University of Detroit. He attended the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine, graduating in 1953 with highest honors. He was certified in family practice.
He practiced on Schoolcraft Rd. in Detroit from 1955 to 1979; on Seven Mile Rd. in Livonia from 1979 to 1989; and at Providence Hospital, Livonia Medical Center from 1989 to 1998, a total of 43 years.
He was a trumpet/coronet player, taught by Leonard Smith, Detroit Concert Band Master and attended the Ernest William Music Camp in upstate New York.
On July 24, 1948 he married his high school sweetheart, Gwendolyn Nicholson, who preceded him in death in 1978. He married Joanne (Damen) Wright in 1980.
Besides his wife he is survived by his children, Cynthia and Mark Roberts of Longwood, Fla., William and Kathleen Wooster of Spring Hill, Fla., Scott and Shari Wooster of Farmington Hills; stepchildren, Kathryn and Terry Lotz of Howell, Leigh and Brian Lindstrom of Yuma, Ariz., and Erik and Penni Wright of Neosho, Mo.; grandchildren, Rex, Ryan and Colleen Roberts, Julie, Heather and Angela Wooster, Derek and Brendan Wooster, Leslie Ann Wright; and one brother, Harry Wooster of Oxford.
He retired in 1998 to his cabin in Gladwin, and enjoyed gardening (especially tomatoes), fishing, having the grandchildren up to the lake and traveling around the USA in his motor home, especially Yuma, Ariz. in the winter.
Medicine and family were his love and life.
A memorial service and visitation will be at Heeney/Sundquist Funeral Home, 23720 Farmington Rd., Farmington. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. and the memorial service will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 8. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Betty D. Elwood, 60, of Gladwin, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at home after a short illness.
Born March 7, 1940 in Gladwin she lived in Gladwin County since 1981 and previously lived in Saginaw.
Betty married Arnold Elwood, March 17, 1961 in Harrison. She was an exterminator for Rose Exterminator in Saginaw, retiring in 1998. She was also a member of Skeels Baptist Church and Bay City Moose Lodge #169.
Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Dawn and husband William Chapman, Kathy and husband Brent Bonner, and Ginger and husband Richard Rezmer, all of Saginaw; one son, Keith of Kalamazoo; two brothers, Eldon and Alan Cooper, both of Clare; one sister, Dorothy Abbott of Gladwin; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Timothy Arnold Chapman; and one sister, Maxine McMullin.
Services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Skeels Baptist Church in Gladwin with Pastor Carl Briggs officiating. Burial was in East Lawn Cemetery in Saginaw. Hall Funeral Home, Gladwin, was in charge of the arrangements.
Clifford L. Horn, 88, of Beaverton, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at MidMichigan Medical Center-Gladwin after a short illness.
Born June 23, 1911 in Gladwin County, he was the son of Solomon and Eva (Mitchell) Horn.
Clifford married Doris (McKimmy) Horn, Jan. 11, 1935 in Angola, Ind. She preceded him in death in 1990. He lived in Gladwin County since 1944 and previously lived in Flint.
He worked for Dow Corning in Midland, retiring in 1976 after 22 years. He was also a lifetime farmer and a lifetime member of the Beaverton Farm Bureau.
Surviving are two sons, Solomon and wife Berniece of Lennon, and James and wife Linda of Beaverton; one daughter, Jacqueline and husband Vance Southwell of Beaverton; one sister, Audrey Caverly of Flint; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one grandson, two sisters, and one brother.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hall Funeral Home, Beaverton, with Rev. Donald Haskell officiating. Burial was in Tobacco Township (Dale) Cemetery in Beaverton.
Edna Foor, 82, of Gladwin, died Wednesday, March 29, 2000 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home after a short illness.
Born Dec. 12, 1917 in Gladwin, she was a lifetime resident of Gladwin County.
Edna married Wendell Foor, Feb. 6, 1940 in Gladwin. He preceded her in death April 29, 1999. She was a farmer.
Surviving are four daughters, Karolyn and husband Harry Martin of Marion, Barbara and husband William Doty and Sue and husband James Westfall, all of Gladwin, and Sandra and husband Philip Smith of Richmond, Va.; one son, Ed of Gladwin; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers, and her parents.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Gladwin, with Rev. Timothy Verity officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church building fund. Hall Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Perry B. Grey, 86, died Thursday, March 30, 2000 at his home in Gladwin.
Born Sept. 7, 1913 in Skeels, he was the son of Nathan and Zelma Pearl (Davis) Grey.
He worked on the farm cleared by his father until the late 1950s, when he worked briefly at The Dow Chemical Company and later at Robinson Industries.
Surviving are his wife, Nellie (Breault) and their children, Sharon, Marlene, Susan, Creig and Greig; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn (Van Horn), mother of Sharon; his parents; and his only sister, Maggie Marie (Grey) Dowland.
Perry was a member of Skeels Baptist Church, where he and Nellie cared for generations of children in the church nursery.
Services were held Saturday at the church.
William (Bill) Boman, died Sunday, March 26, 2000 at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Born Nov. 3, 1951 in Gladwin, he was the son of Ralph and Esther (Searfoss) Boman.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran and after being discharged, worked with his stepfather, Richard Rumminger, doing carpentry. He was employed with G.M. since 1977, and was a resident of Clio.
Bill married Patricia Ann Papp, Oct. 25, 1980. He was past owner of Boman's Hobby Shop and has owned Band B Kart Works in Clio for the past six years.
He was a member of the Saginaw Valley Karting Association, and also a member of the Eastern Michigan Hockey Association, in which he was very active, as his son, Matthew, was a goalie for the Junior Generals.
Besides his wife, Patricia, he is survived by one son, Matthew Dean; his mother, Esther and husband Richard Rumminger of Houghton Lake; one brother, Dan and wife Kim of Flint; one sister, Lee Ann and husband James Cronk of Gladwin; one stepsister, Emogene and husband Melvin Miner of Norway; one stepbrother, Eugene and wife Carolyn Rumminger of Highland, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Theodore.
Services were held Thursday at Whipple-O'Guinn Funeral Home in Clio.
