Gladwin County, Michigan obits:

William Charles Chilman Jr., 78, of Midland, died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at St. Mary's Medical Center in Saginaw after a short illness.
Born May 10, 1921 in Detroit, he was the son of the late William Charles Chilman Sr. and Gertrude (Lemoire) Chilman.
William married the former Olive Knapp. She preceded him in death in May 1995.
He served is country during World War II with the U.S. Army He had been a P.O.W. and a recipient of the Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He was a disabled American veteran, a member of the D.A.V., and a member of the V.F.W. Veterans of Foreign Wars.
William was an engineer, retiring from the Lincoln Park School System.
Surviving are one son, William Charles III and wife Deborah of Cadillac; one daughter, Shelly and husband John Ostrowski of Clinton Twp.; two sisters, Dorothy Fedorinchik of Luna Pier, and Margie Chilman of Larchmont, N.Y.; three grandsons, William Charles IV and wife Tami, Jeffery John, and Ronald Bruce Jr.; and one great-grandson, William Charles V.
He was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Bruce Sr., one brother, Donald; and one sister, Marion Varga.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday form the Ware-Smith-Woolever Funeral Chapel in Midland. Military honors were presented by the Midland V.F.W. Post 3651.

Ernest M. Sherman, 92, passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2000 at Gladwin Pines Nursing Home following a lingering illness.
He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 30, 1908 to the late Martin and Caroline (Gaulka) Sherman. He married the former Alma Yanke in Oberlin Church on July 6, 1935. She survives him. He was a farmer in Gladwin County for 40 years, raising Golden Angus cattle.
Surviving besides his wife Alma are four daughters, Marilyn Hutson of Gladwin, Ernestine Pagano of Saginaw, Judith Grove of Columbia, Tenn., and Linda Smythe of Swartz Creek; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Otto Sherman of Gladwin and a sister, Augusta Bourisch of Warren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Edward Sherman and a sister, Emma Denewith.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 22 at 11 a.m. from Our Savior Lutheran Church with the Rev. Timothy Verity presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery. Visitation was on Friday at the Sisson Funeral home and on Saturday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the church building fund.

Louise A. Farrow, 86, of Gladwin died April 19, 2000 at her home.
Born Nov. 23, 1913 in Beaverton, she was the daughter of Jay W. and Ada (Fuhrman) Tremaine. On May 27, 1938, she married George W. Farrow. He preceded her in death on May 31, 1974.
A homemaker and lifetime resident of Gladwin County, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Rebekah Lodge and T.O.P.S.
Surviving are daughters Bonnie and husband Marvin Wagner of Beaverton and Betty Farrow of Champion; sons Jerry and wife Lori of Gladwin and Larry of Gladwin; six grandsons; one granddaughter; a brother Fuhrman Tremain of Beaverton and a sister Ruth Dubiel of Kawkawlin.
Services were held Saturday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin with Rev. Dr. Deane B. Wyllys officiating. Burial was in Highland Cemetery in Gladwin. Visitation was on Friday and a special service was conducted Friday evening by the Rebekah Lodge. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gladwin First United Methodist Church.

Michael L. Farrow, 45, passed away Thursday, April 20, 2000 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on Dec. 21, 1954 in Gladwin to Donald and Ila (Cripps) Farrow.
He is survived by his son, Shane Farrow of Gladwin; his mother, Ila Farrow of Gladwin; four brothers and sisters, Linda Farrow and Tami and husband Don Hukel, both of Gladwin; Sue DuBois of Jonesville and Tim and wife Loretta Farrow of Hope; seven half-brothers and sisters, Vicki and husband Donald Wheeler, Sherri Renas and Roger Farrow, all of Gladwin, Judy and husband Mike Janice of Beaverton, Candi and husband Dennis Kellsey of Weidman, Donald Farrow Jr. of Farwell and Eugene and wife Lisa Farrow of Lake; two stepbrothers and sisters, Alan and wife Muriel Armstrong of North Carolina and Shirley and husband William Beemer of Farwell.
He was preceded in death by his father Donald, two brothers, Terry and Thomas, and a sister Patti Jo.
At Mr. Farrow's request cremation has taken place and there will be no services. Sisson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Herschel "Curly" Morris Sr., 64, of Gladwin died April 22 at home.
He was born May 16, 1935 in Letcher County, Ky., the son of Marion and Della (Craft) Morris. He married the former Shirley Cummings on July 12, 1958 in Pontiac.
A factory worker, he retired in 1993 after 331/2 years with General Motors Truck and Bus in Pontiac.
Having lived in Gladwin County since 1995, he was formerly a resident of Pontiac. He was a member of Local 594.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of Gladwin; son Herschel Morris Jr. of Pontiac; daughters Robin Morris and Carole and husband Bill Bruce of Pontiac; granddaughters Trisha Alexander of Pontiac and Nichole Morris of Ann Arbor, grandson Brandon Alexander of Pontiac, brothers Earl of Novi, Pete and wife Jerry of Arizona, Lonis and wife Rosy of Kentucky, Elmer and wife Bertha of Florida, Claude and Curtis; sisters Marie Schoffiner and Maxine Johnson; several nieces and nephews; and a special pet, Tiffany.
Cremation has taken place with arrangements handled by Hall Funeral Home of Gladwin and Beaverton.

Barbara (Stachurski) Paradise, 44, passed away on April 18, 2000 following an extended illness. She was born in Royal Oak on Nov. 7, 1955.
She is survived by her husband, Ray; daughter, Honey Anderson; mother, Alice Ogg; stepfather, Wayne Ogg; sister Patricia and husband Kenneth McNeill; nieces Jenny McNeill and Wendy McNeill-McBrien.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Stachurski.
A graduate of Mid Michigan Community College, Saginaw Valley State University and Central Michigan University, Barbara served as a youth specialist/family therapist for AuSable Community Mental Health. She distinguished herself as a tireless worker on behalf of her clients. Always concerned for the needy, lonely and less fortunate, she established a community Christmas dinner in her native Gladwin which continues to this day as a model for community service.
Contributions may be made in memory of Barbara to her honor student daughter, Honey Anderson, Education Fund, care of Dart National Bank, P.O. Box 40, Mason, MI 48854.
