Shirley Ann Hawk
Shirley Ann Hawk, 61, of Goochland, died Sunday, February 1, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2004 at the Norman Funeral Home, Goochland. Interment Hawk Family Cemetery, Maidens.
She is survived by four loving sons, Charles Wilmore, James William Jr. "Red" and wife, Valerie, Freddie Lee, and Bruce Earl Dean; two grandchildren, James William III and Alayna Gayle; daughter from a previous marriage, Nina Jones; and sister-in-law, Lillian Snipes; her father, James Dalton; brothers, James Dalton Jr., John Dalton and Kenneth Johnson; sisters, Faye Via Lowery, Gloria Brigman, Rhonda Wheeler, Brenda Seamans, and Tanya Jenkins; devoted friends, especially Calvin Mickey.
Mrs. Hawk was the widow of James William "Jimmy" Hawk, and was raised by Ernest and Katie Via.

Alice Morris Whittaker
Alice Morris Whittaker, 92, of Powhatan, died on Saturday, January 31, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Powhatan.
She is survived by three brothers, Carl, Elton and Earl Morris; two sisters, Annabel Royal and Virginia Sadler; and a number of nieces, nephews, cousin and friends.

Jackie M. Kerr
Jackie M. Kerr, 68, of Maidens, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004.
Graveside services were held Friday, March 26, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Central Baptist Church Cemetery, Appomattox, VA.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley A. Kerr; one son, Jackie D. Kerr of Appomattox, Va.; four daughters, Patricia Hiner, Lynchburg, Teresa Johnson (Larry), Concord, Dawn Garrett (John), Appomattox, and Kristie Kerr of Glen Allen; 10 grandchildren, one sister and two brothers.
Mr. Kerr was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Fannie Kerr.

Alfred W. Poore
Alfred W. Poore, “Pop”, 74, of Manakin, died Tuesday, March 23, 2004.
A memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26, 2004 at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 West Broad St.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley P. Poore; a daughter, Linda P. Rowh; a son, Glenn (Buckwheat) Poore; a granddaughter, Kris Barker; and two sisters, Rosa Roberts and Gene Williams.
Memorial donations may be made to Centerville or Rockville Volunteer Fire Departments.

George David Taylor
George David Taylor, 89, of Goochland, died Friday, March 26, 2004.
Funeral services were held at the Parham Chapel of the Woody Funeral Home, Richmond. Interment took place in Tennessee in the family cemetery on Wednesday, March 31, 2004.
He is survived by his daughter, Georgia Rae Roberts; three sons, Lee Roy Taylor, James T. Taylor, and Jerry Dean Taylor; four grandsons, David Lee Taylor, James T. Taylor Jr., Timothy Paul Roberts, George C. Taylor; three granddaughters, Patricia Taylor Engles, Cheryl Rae Kernan, Christina Marie Taylor; five great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Hazel McDaniel Taylor.
He was retired from Virginia Department of Corrections.
Donations may be made to Goochland Fire and Rescue Company No. 5, Goochland, Va. 23063.

Leroy Dickerson
Leroy Dickerson, 86, of Rockville, died on Saturday, May 22, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at the Robert Mealy Funeral Home, 2530 Dogtown Road, Goochland, Rev. James Leary, eulogist. Interment Jerusalem Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by two children, Rosa L. Turner and William S. Dickerson; two stepdaughters; 14 grandchildren, one devoted, Lisa Gresham; 16 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, four sisters and other relatives and friends.

Deacon H. Morris Jr.
Deacon Howard Morris, Jr., 71, of Powhatan, died on Friday, May 21, 2004.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Mary L. Morris; six sons, Willie, Michael, Howard III, Harold, Paul and Gearld Morris; eight daughters, Pauline Smothers, Maxcine Ross, Paulette Taylor, Paula Morris, Geraldine Morris, Alethea Morris, Thersa Nious and Shelba Morris; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 26, 2004 at the Powhatan Village Building, Route 13, Powhatan. Rev. Gregory L. Beechaum, pastor, officiating, with interment in Little Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wayne F. Newsome
Wayne F. Newsome, 56, of Goochland, died Monday, May 24, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 27 at Mizpah Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Betty S. Newsome; his mother, Pauline Powell of Mechanicsville; his sons, Teddy Wayne Newsome of Prince George and F.B. Newton of Goochland and Devin Newton of Powhatan; his daughters, Laura Vucco of Prince George, and Cindy White of Richmond; and four grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, Goochland Chapter.

Terry Rose
Terry Rose, of Gum Spring, died on Saturday, May 22, 2004.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Connie S. (Benner) Rose, of the home; two children Rena (Greg) Payton of Newark, Ohio, and Terry (Aungkana) Rose, of Tokyo, Japan; two grandsons, Carl and Travis, and expecting his first granddaughter in August; two brothers, William “Bill” and Frank; two sisters, Clotine and Crystal; many nieces, nephews, and friends, special friend, Eric “Cuz” Nachtman.
Mr. Rose was preceded in death by sister, Maxine.
He was born July 6, 1949, in Portsmouth, Ohio to the late Clarence and Thelma Rose.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Goochland Fire & Emergency Department, P.O. Box 30, Fairground Road, Goochland, Va. 23063.

Virginia R. Waters
Virginia Rosalind “Roz” Waters, 59, of Rockville, formerly of Maryland, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 29 at Parham Chapel, Woody Funeral Home. Interment was private.
She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Herb Waters; three stepsons, Herbert F. Waters III, Jeffery W. Waters and Bryant G. Waters; her mother, Virginia Evans; brother, David A. Miller; six stepgrandchildren and other numerous family and friends.
She was retired from Reynolds Metals and had been working with Ethan Allen Home Interiors.

Ruby B. Wiltshire
Ruby Browning Wiltshire, 83, of Goochland, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004 in her home.
A graveside service will be conducted Friday at 2 p.m. in Elpis Christian Church Cemetery, Goochland, with Rev. Carl Howard officiating.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Emory Wiltshire of Virginia Beach, Va. and James Andrew Wiltshire Sr. of Norfolk; and a sister, Anne B. Bourne Vontoy Road of Rockville; two grandchildren, James Andrew Wiltshire Jr. and Charles Minor William Wiltshire, both of Louisiana; one great-grandchild; a sister-in-law, Mildred W. Tiller; many nieces and nephews; and a good friend, Judy A. Hockensmith, a fellow nurse.
She was a retired Nurse Assistant after 35 years.
Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home Bayside Chapel is handling local arrangements.

Evelyn Darnell "Polly" Blunt
Evelyn "Polly" Darnell Blunt, 80, of Richmond, died on Wednesday, July 28, 2004.
Graveside services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2004 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Reddick and husband, Benny of Mechanicsville; two sons, Ed Bosher and wife, Gloria of Kilmarnock and Thomas Blunt Jr. of Richmond; five grandchildren, Paul Bosher and wife, Debbie of Farnham, Jason Bosher and wife, Amy of Virginia Beach, Karen Bosher of Richmond, Chris Mahtar of Mechanicsville and Jacquie Turner of Newkirk, Okla.; five great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Anne Thurston of Rockville.
Mrs. Blunt was the widow of Thomas M. Blunt, Sr.

Dorothy “Dottie” Compton Jacobs
Dorothy “Dottie” Compton Jacobs, of Rockville, died on Saturday, July 31, 2004.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the West Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 11020 W. Broad Street Rd. Interment was private.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, John C. (Jake) Jacobs; one daughter, Pamela J. Simmons; one son, Steven Jacobs and his wife, Donna (Kim); a brother, James (Jimmy) Compton and his wife, Joan; four grandchildren, Shannon Lancaster and Chad Jacobs, and their mother, Sandra Jacobs, and Jonathon and Matthew Jacobs; two great-grandchildren, Damian and Natalie Lancaster; also her extended family members and friends.
Mrs. Jacobs was vice president of Town & Country Auto.
Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Michael Ellis Lambert
Michael Ellis Lambert, 58, of Maidens, died on Saturday, July 24, 2004.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 9614 River Road. Interment Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife, June Nance Lambert; two sons, Michael Ellis Lambert Jr. and his wife, Carol, and Matthew Barrington Lambert and his wife, Gayle; his mother-in-law, Lucy Barrington Nance; and three grandchildren, Katie Wrenn, Ashby and Jack.
