Douglas Richard Cowan, 37, of Goochland, died Friday, January 20, 2006.
Funeral services will be held today at 3 p.m. at the Bennett Funeral Home West, 11020 West Broad Street, Glen Allen, 23060.
Doug is survived by his wife Julie M. Cowan; his four children, Kayleigh, Cameron, Karsyn and Mary Kathryn; his parents, Dick and Kay Cowan of Littleton, North Carolina; a brother, Marty Cowan of Spartanburg, South Carolina; his sister-in-law, Donna Cowan; his nephew and niece, Zachery and Emily; and his maternal grandmother, Fern Smalley of Mosca, Colorado; his father and mother-in-law, Dan and Pam Matthews of Asheville, North Carolina; a brother and sister-in-law, Byron and Martha Matthews of Cary, North Carolina; a nephew and niece, Paul and Victoria; a brother-in-law, Joe Matthews of Cary, North Carolina; a niece, Abigail Matthews; and his wife’s maternal grandmother, Alva Mae Adams of Cary, North Carolina.
Doug was a graduate of North Carolina State University and the managing partner of Cowan Enterprises.

Donald H. Crane
Donald H. Crane, 66, of Gum Spring, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006.
Graveside services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 20 at Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by a son, Shannon H. Crane and his wife, Beth; two daughters, Tracye R. Crane and Amy M. Murray; three granddaughters, Jamee, Carlee and Elise; a grandson, Mark; five brothers; and five sisters.
Mr. Crane was preceded in death by his wife, Retha Y. Crane and a son, Donald Z. Crane.

Richard M. Holman Sr.
Richard “Rick” M. Holman Sr., of Goochland, died Tuesday, January 17, 2006.
A private family funeral service will be held at a later date.
He is survived by a son, Richard M. Holman Jr. “R.J.” and his fiancée, Amy C. Gaither, of Goochland; his daughters, Melissa Lynn Holman and her boyfriend, Steven M. Doherty, of Fredericksburg and Ginnie Marie Stewart and her husband, Christopher S. Stewart, of Sevierville, Tennessee; two grandchildren, Matthew C. Stewart, Taylor M. Stewart, due on May 29; his mother, Shirley S. Holman, of Goochland; his father, Edgar M. Holman, of Virginia Beach; two brothers, Ronnie L. Burgess of Lawton, Oklahoma and David W. Holman of Bumpass; his fiancée, Rita Legg of Ashland
Mr. Holman was preceded in death by his brother, Steven R. Holman.

Lynn Deaner Stegner
Lynn Marie Deaner Stegner, 51, of Richmond, died Monday, January 16, 2006.
A gathering of friends will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 28 at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 9155 Hungary Road, Glen Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Conrad; her mother, Elizabeth Yeattes Deaner, of Hampton; a stepdaughter, Kira Stegner, of Atlanta, Georgia; and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Mrs. Stegner was preceded in death by her father, Charles E. “Chuck” Deaner.
She was a graduate of Hampton University and worked at Danville Register and Bee, Belk department store in Charleston, South Carolina, The Goochland Gazette, the Virginia Restaurant Association, the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond, Borders Books and Music and the Henrico County Public Library.
Mrs. Stegner volunteered her time to the American Cancer Society and was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Oilville.

Arthur W. Case Sr.
Arthur Walker Case Sr., 73, of Rockville died Monday, February 6, 2006.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 8 at the Ashland Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Interment followed at the Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
He is survived by his wife of 54 year Betty Jean Turner Case; four sons, Arthur W. Case Jr. and his wife Debora, Michael Wayne Case Sr. and his wife Dayle, Daniel W. Case and his wife Teresa and Gary L. Case and his wife Nora; 14 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Case Arthur and her husband, William, Betty Case Maddox, both of Lynchburg, and Dimple Case Almond of Raleigh; a brother, Malcom A. Case Jr. and his wife, Kitty P. Case, of Richmond; along with a host of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Case was the son of the late Malcom Argyle Case Sr. and Mary Louise Purvis Case.
He was retired from Hauni Richmond after 38 years of service.

Phyllis F. Roberts
Phyllis Farnsworth Roberts, 80, of Maidens, died Saturday, February 4, 2006.
Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 11 at the Woody Funeral Home, Parham Chapel, 1771 Parham Road.
She is survived by her daughter, Carol DiAmore of Salinas, California; two sons, Charles Farnsworth and his wife, Ann, of Kissimmee, Florida, and Robert Farnsworth of Winchester, Kentucky; and one grandson, Chris Morgia and his wife, Sarah, of Dublin, California.
Mrs. Roberts was preceded in death by her husband, Edward T. Roberts.
She graduated from Syracuse University in 1947 and received her master’s degree from the University ofVirginia. She retired from Hopewell High School after 23 years of service, where she taught English and coached the debate team. She received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year award in 1974 by the VFW. She was a member of the Alpha Gamma Delta Sorority.

Augusta Marin Salmon, 74, of Goochland, died Friday, February 10, 2006.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 13 at Smyrna Baptist Church. Interment followed in the Salmon Family Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Annie Cutright Salmon; one son, Ricky Salmon, and his friend, Brenda Curmi; a daughter, Carol S. Pleasants and her husband, Robert W. Pleasants; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; three sisters, Ruby Reinhardt, Virginia Cagle and Sarah Leake; nine nieces, 13 nephews; and two sisters-in-law, Alice and Catherine Salmon.

Stephanie Marie Windel, 20, of Bumpass, died Monday, January 30, 2006.

She is survived by her father, Stephen Windle and his wife Anne; her mother, Darlene Windle and her boyfriend, Thad Pylinski; a sister, Samantha Windle; grandparents, Mary Windle and Barbara West; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

John H. Clay of Goochland died Thursday, March 30, 2006.
Funeral services were held at Second Union Baptist Church on Monday, April 3 at 2 p.m.
He is survived by his wife, Annie; and eight children.
Mr. Clay was born July 7, 1934 in Goochland, the son of Callie Ferguson Clay and Charlie Clay.

Robert Gordon “Bob” Alley, of New Kent, died Saturday, May 20, 2006.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 24 at 2 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home in West Point.
He is survived by his wife, Jackie; one daughter, Anita Poteat, and her husband, Roger; two sons, Robert Jr. and his wife, Theresa, and Scott and his wife, Angie; their mother, Jerry; five grandchildren, Russ Carter and his wife, Shawn, Travis Carter and his wife, Elizabeth, Elizabeth Alley, Robert Alley III and Rachel Alley; one great-grandchild, Camden Lee Carter; two cousins, Joyce Pulley and Janice Hays; a mother-in-law, Kathy, and her husband, Robert, and Sheryl Bradley; a niece, Jennifer Davis and her friend, Michael “Ace”; and loyal friends, Mike and Joann Adams, Odee Wright, Ruth and Bob Piper, Scott “Peanut” Sears and the Atkinson family.
Mr. Alley was preceded in death by his mother, Merrill Norene Alley, and an uncle, Linwood “Sonny” Napoleon Alley.
He was born and raised in Goochland. For over 33 years, he owned and operated Robert G. Alley Inc., Bob Alley Towing, New Kent Exxon, Eltham Mobile Park and Alley Holdings, all located in New Kent County.
Mr. Alley was a member of the Virginia Association of Towing and Recovery and spent 31 years with Mid-Atlantic AAA.

William E. Hawk Jr.
William E. Hawk Jr., 44, died Sunday, May 14, 2006 in St. Augustine, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn Hawk; twin sons, Kyle William Hawk and Kristopher Alan Hawk; mother, Joyce Wynn and stepfather, Larry Wynn; brothers, Jeff Hawk, Shane Hicks and Todd Hawk.
Mr. Hawk was preceded in death by his father, William E. Hawk Sr.
Mr. Hawk was born in Richmond, VA., on April 21, 1962, the son of William and Joyce Hawk. He was a musician playing the local music scene for the past 16 years in St. Augustine and Palatka, Florida.

Jeffrey Allen Kidd, 41, of Fork Union died Saturday, May 13, 2006.

He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Dorothy M. Kidd of Fork Union; two daughters, Alison M. Kidd and Rebecca A. Kidd, both of Fork Union ; four brothers, Nash L. Kidd, Jr. and wife, Debra, of Columbia, William E. Kidd and wife, Charlotte, of Kents Store, Donald W. Kidd and Jerry W. Kidd and his wife, Servilla, all of Columbia; one sister, Blanche Ann Catlett and husband, Richard, of Buckingham, and a number of nieces, nephews and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara Spruill Allen; three sons, David, Philip and Stephen; three daughters-in-law, Tiffany and Angela Allen, and Annette Mattice; two stepchildren, Kevin and Kendra Mattice; four grandchildren, Joshua Sprouse, Rachel, Maggie, and Bayleigh Allen; two step-grandchildren, Sammy and Nicolle Mattice; and five siblings, Bernice Berkley, Doris Markovich, Joyce Dabney, Joseph Allen and Carolyn Satterwhite; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his sons, Ruth Valentine Allen.
