Norman William Burmeister
Norman William Burmeister, 76, of Crandon, and formerly of Worth, Illinois, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2002, in Rhinelander, Wisconsin.
Norman was born in Blue Island on January 5, 1926, the son of Alfred Burmeister and Gertrude nee Collitz. He grew up in Worth, Illinois. He worked for the Indiana Harbor Belt Railway (IHB) as a locomotive engineer for 44 years before retiring in 1988. He married Betty nee Habich in 1947 and in 1994 they moved to Lake Lucerne near Crandon. He enjoyed living on the lake with time spent fishing and keeping his yard and house up. Tired of the hustle and bustle of the city life that he knew near Chicago, he enjoyed the solitude of the north woods and the company of his wife. Norman also enjoyed the visits from his children and their families, especially in the last few years when they had spent much time and effort helping to keep him at home as his health grew worse.
Norman is survived by his wife of 55 years, Betty; his children, Norman (Wilginia) Burmeister of Las Vegas, Nevada, Richard (Margene) Burmeister of Flora, Illinois, Susan (Robert) Silkowski of San Diego, California, and Betty (Vince) Calabrese of Wood Dale, Illinois; his brother, Frederick of Midlothian, Illinois; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Evelyn, and an infant brother, Robert.
Private family services for Norman were held and burial will take place at a later date at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery in Alsip, Illinois. Norman's family had given Suminski Funeral Home of Crandon the privilege of handling the arrangements.
Russell S. Carle
Russell S. Carle, a lifelong resident of Blue Island, passed away on August 14, 2002. He was born in Blue Island on April 21, 1912 and worked as a signal operator with Rock Island Railroad. Russell was a member of the Mason Lodge and the Elks of Blue Island.
Russell S. Carle was the father of Donna (Bernard) Baugh and Sandra Vena; grandfather to James Lawrence of San Diego, California, and Russell G. Baugh; great-grandfather to Donna, Shanna, and Dustin Baugh.
Final arrangements were handled by HALLINAN FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Vermont St., Blue Island. Memorial service was held Saturday, August 17, 2002, at 2:00 PM at Christ Memorial Church, 2440 York St., Blue Island. Pastor Judy Jones officiated.
Pedro Mendez
Pedro Mendez passed from this life on August 20, 2002, at his Calumet Park residence. He was born in Calumet Park on July 31, 1926, and was a retired repairman for the Cook County Election Board.
Pedro Mendez was the husband of Joanne Mendez; father of Dorothy O'Neil of Earlsville, Illinois, Carol (Bob Leitz of Schererville, Indiana, Diana Anderson of Edina, Minnesota, Bob (Sue) Flores of Braceville, Illinois, and Steven Labus of Arlington, Texas; grandfather of nine.
Services were held at HICKEY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 2429 W. 127th St., Blue Island. Visitation was on Thursday, August 22, 2002, from 2-9 PM. Mr. Mendez' funeral was on Friday, August 23, 2002, at 10:00 AM. Interment took place at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Laverne M. Kozloski
Laverne M. Kozloski, 75, a lifelong resident of Blue Island, passed from this life on August 14, 2002, at Lemont Nursing Home. She was born in Blue Island on August 11, 1927. After 34 years she retired in 1980 from Illinois Bell Telephone Company.
Laverne is survived by her dear friend, Russel Nedved of Blue Island; her sister-in-law, Jean Kozlowski of Beecher; many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Francis Kozlowski and the late Clarence Kozlowski. Arrangements were handled by HICKEY MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 2429 W. 127TH St., Blue Island.
A prayer service was held at the chapel at 10:30 AM on August 14, 2002, followed by Mass at St. Isidore Church at 11:00 AM. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
Marga A. Hutchinson
Marga A. Hutchinson nee Hartmann, 60, of Blue Island, formerly of Calumet Park, passed from this life Friday, September 27, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital & Health Center.
Marga was born November 10, 1941 in Luxembourg to the late Germaine nee Moes and the late Hans Hartmann. She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
Marga was the beloved mother of Susan Hutchinson of Blue Island and Bryan Baker of Orland Park. She is the loving grandmother of Heather, Hannah, Eric and Brian.
A private burial service was held for Marga at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood. Arrangements were entrusted to THE KRUEGER FUNERAL HOME, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island.
Eugene "Doc" Lubieniecki
Eugene "Doc" I,ubieniecki, 82, passed from this life on September 21, 2002. Eugene was born on October 3, 1919, in Chicago. A lifelong Blue 1sland resident, he worked as a design engineer with railroad cars. He was a member of the Calumet Park American Legion Post 1156.

Visitation was held from 3-9 PM on Monday, September 23, 2002, at HALLINAN FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Vermont St., Blue Island. Prayers were said on Tuesday, September 24, 2002, at 8:45 AM followed by Mass at St. Walter Church at 9:30 AM. Burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Alsip.
William Pergande
William Pergande, 45, of Chicago, passed from this life Thursday, September 26, 2002 in Rock Springs, Wyoming.
William was born August 3, 1957 in Chicago and worked as an over the road truck driver. He is the beloved father of Heather (Michael Bender) Pergande, Joey Pergande and Eddie Pergande and the devoted grandfather of Devin. He is the cherished son of Dolores (Robert) Aitken and Karl (Nina) Pergande. William is the loving grandson of Rose and William Irwin and the devoted fiance of Christine Daros. He is the dear brother of Debra Cooke, Robert (Suzette) Pergande and Donna Pergande. William is the fond step-brother of Timothy (Jean) Powers, Sharon (Ross) Jay, Jeff Powers, Dennis Mai, Lisa (Tim) Tecup and Michael (Anna) Powers.
Visitation for William was held Monday, September 30, at THE KRUEGER FUNERAL HOME, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Cremation was private.
Samuel S. Soria Sr.
Samuel S. Soria Sr., 77, of the southside of Chicago, formerly of Calumet Park, passed from this life Thursday, September 19, 2002 at Christ Hospital.
Sam was born November 12, 1924 in Alton, Illinois to the late Josefa nee Mayorga and the late Hipolito Soria. He was a United States Army veteran serving as a First Lieutenant in World War II and a United States Navy veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Sam graduated from Northwestern University with a degree in business administration in 1956. He was a member of American Legion Post #50.
Sam is the beloved husband of Rosalie nee Estrada whom he married in 1955. He is the loving father of Rosemarie Soria of Chicago and Samuel Soria Jr. of Los Angles. Sam is the dear brother of Robert (Susan) Soria, Anthony (Theresa) Soria and the late Peter Soria and Dominic Soria.
Visitation for Sam was held Friday, September 20, at THE KRUEGER FUNERAL HOME, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue Island. Holy Mass was celebrated Saturday, September 21, at St. Isidore Church. Fr. Greg Rom officiated. Interment took place at St. Benedict Cemetery in Crestwood.
Clinton Wicks
Clinton, Wicks, 72, of Leesburg Florida, formerly of Blue Island, passed from this life on Sunday, September 22, 2002.
He was the beloved husband of JoAnn, nee Elliott and the loving father of Doug (Patti) and David (Kim) Wicks. Clinton was the grandfather of Kirsten, Ashley, Jenna, Kyle and Jordan.

Harold M. Behling
Harold M. Behling, 65, of Blue Island, passed from this life Monday, March 31, 2003 at Christ Hospital. Harold was born April 16, 1937 in Chicago to the late Harold and Edna Behling. He was formerly employed as a chef for Arlene's Catering of Blue Island.
Harold is the beloved husband of Mary Jane nee Bilotti. He is the loving brother of George (Mary Ann) Behling and Gary (Louise) Behling and the dear uncle and great uncle of many.
Visitation for Harold was held Thursday, April 3, from 3:00 pm until the time of service at 7:30 pm at THE KRUEGER FUNERAL HOME, 13050 Greenwood Ave., Blue .Island. Fr. Louis Gasparini officiated. Private interment took place at St. Benedict Cemetery .
Charles Billett
Charles Billett, 79, of Thornton, passed from this life Thursday, March 27,2003, at Ingalls Hospital.
Charles was born May 27, 1923 in Chicago to the late Stella nee Wallace and the late Oscar Billett. He was a United States Navy veteran serving during WWII with the Fleet Air Wing in the Pacific Theatre. Charles was formerly employed by l\:Iaterial Service Corporation, a division of General Dynamics, for 35 years mostly working as a safety engineer . Charles was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy nee Voegele who passed away March 5, 2002: He is the loving father of Sandra (David) Chausse of Thornton and the devoted grandfather of Wendy (Tim) Zackavec of South Holland. Charles is the dear brother of Jack Billett, Robert (Priest) Billett and Larry Billett.

Joan L. Carter
Joan L. Carter of Blue Island, aged 66, passed from this life on February 13, 2003. She was born in Chicago on June 21, 1936 and worked as a dispatcher.
Joan was the beloved wife of Joseph Carter; loving mother of Sandy, Patricia (Brian), Jo Ellen (Winston), Dennis, and Joseph Jr. (Lynn); grandmother of 4.
Visitation was held at HALLINAN FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Vermont St. in Blue Island, on Saturday and Sunday, February 15 and 16, 2003. Funeral services were held at 11 AM on Monday February 17, 2003, at Salem Lutheran Church. Pastor Chris Battaroff officiated. Interment was in First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Alsip.
Helen M. Hennings
Helen M. Hennings, 92, a resident of Blue Island, passed away on January 31, 2003, in St. Francis Hospital. She was born in Chicago on February 2, 1910, and worked as a bookkeeper.
The final arrangements were handled by HALLINAN FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Vermont St. in Blue Island. A deacon of St. Cajetan officiated. Interment was in Oak Hill Cemetery in Chicago. Helen was survived by a dear friend, Judy Polzin.
Hilda Hanna Kollmann
Hilda Hanna Kollmann of Santa Maria, California, formerly of Blue Island, passed away on March 10, 2003, at age 89. She was born December 12, 1913. She was a vice president in banking.
Hilda was the beloved sister of Bertha Racine; cherished aunt of Robert Racine and Don McAllister; grand-aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Final arrangements were handled by HALLINAN FUNERAL HOME, 2601 Vermont St. in Blue Island. Visitation was on March 18, 2003. Funeral services were on March 19, 2003; Pastor Chris Battoroff of Salem Lutheran Church officiated. Interment was at St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Country Club Estates.
