Grace M. Agness
Grace M. Agness, a Hollister resident, died February 2. She was 76.
Mrs. Agness was born in Hamler, Ohio and moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., in 1970. She came to San Benito two years ago from Scottsdale. Mrs. Agness was a graduate of Lima Memorial Hospital of Nursing in Ohio and had worked as a nurse during WWII, when she met her husband Robert Claude Agness. She had been a registered nurse all of her working life. She was a member of the Bethel Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Agness is survived by her daughter Julie Passon of Hollister, sister Mildred Brandt of Toledo, Ohio and sister Norah Menchoffer of Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Claude Agness in 1991.
Arrangements and cremation are through Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home and Gavilan Hills Crematory. Private burial at sea is planned.
Dale Evans dead at 88
LOS ANGELES – (AP) Dale Evans, the singer-actress who teamed with husband Roy Rogers in popular Westerns and wrote the perennial songs ``Happy Trails To
You'' and ``The Bible Tells Me So,''died Wednesday. She was 88.
Evans died of congestive heart failure at her home in Apple Valley in the high desert east of Los Angeles, said Dave Koch, son-in-law of Evans' son Dusty.
Evans' son and other family members were at her side. A memorial service will be held Saturday, Koch said. Evans was active in Christian evangelism and wrote more than 20 books, including the best-selling ``Angel Unaware.'' That was a poignant account of the brief life of the only child she had with Rogers, Robin, who was born retarded and died at 2. They also had three children by previous marriages and five adopted children.
In a 1984 Associated Press interview, she called her travel to promote Christian causes ``the most meaningful, the most enjoyable part of my life. ... I can only do what I do because of Roy. He's so understanding.''
Evans was born Frances Octavia Smith on Oct. 31, 1912, in Uvalde, Texas.
When she was a girl her family moved to Osceola, Ark., where she attended high school.
She was the ``Queen of the Cowgirls'' to Rogers, the ``King of the Cowboys.'' She rode her horse, Buttermilk, beside him on his celebrated palomino, Trigger.
The first movie she made with Rogers, already an established singing cowboy star, was ``Cowboy and the Senorita'' in 1944. They married in 1947, and together appeared in 35 movies, including such Saturday afternoon favorites as ``My Pal Trigger,'' ``Apache Rose'' and ``Don't Fence Me In.''
When the B Western faded in the early 1950s, they began their television career. ``The Roy Rogers Show'' ran from 1951 to 1957; later incarnations included ``The Roy Rogers and Dale Evans Show,'' 1962, and ``Happy Trails Theatre,''1986-89, a show of repackaged Rogers and Evans movies on cable TV's Nashville Network.
She and Rogers recorded more than 400 songs.
Rogers died in July 1998 at age 86.
Lucille Wilson McCulley
Lucille Wilson McCulley died of Alzheimers complications on February 3 at Ygnacio Valley Nursing Home in Walnut Creek. She was 85.
Mrs. McCulley moved from Hollister to be near family in the Walnut Creek area several years ago after being diagnosed with Alzheimers. Prior to that she made her home in Hollister for over 55 years.
Mrs. McCulley was born and raised in Kentucky. She moved to California in the mid-30s, met and married her husband Earl and settled in Hollister. Lucille was a proud homemaker and joined Hollister Methodist Church. She was also active in the local "Rebecca's".
After her husband's death in 1978 and her eldest daughter’s death in 1979, she began volunteering for the "Grandmothers" teacher's aid program at San Juan Bautista Elementary School. Later she worked part time for several years at the "Sugar Plum."
Mrs. McCulley is survived by her sister Mary Carter in Kentucky, brother William Rogers in Arizona and half sister Joyce Wagoner in California. She also is survived by her son Byron McCulley in California and daughter Linda Steele in Pennsylvania.

Addie I. Sparks
Addie Sparks, a Hollister resident, died February 5, 2001 at Mark Twain Convalescent Hospital in San Andreas. She was 90.
Mrs. Sparks was born in Arkansas and has been a past resident of Hollister and Watsonville, just moving to San Andreas less than a year ago. She had worked as a clerk for various retail stores over the years.
Mrs. Sparks is survived by her son, Newton Sparks Jr. of Groveland, son Lee Sparks of Groveland, daughter Robbie Reprice, sister Marie McNapp of Sedona, Ariz., 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Newton Sparks, Sr. who died in 1990.
Graveside services will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister. Rev. Jerry Guthrie will officiate. Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen C. Wood
Helen C. Wood, a Hollister resident, died January 30. She was 93.
Mrs. Wood was the daughter of Ambrose Cunning, who practiced law in San Benito County many years ago. She was born in San Francisco and reared in Hollister. She had lived in Berkeley for the last five years. During her working life she was an office manager for the California Library Association.
Mrs. Wood is survived by her son Roy David Wood of Richmond, daughter Katherine M. Tonkyro of Berkeley, grandson Dr. Roy Allen Wood of San Francisco, and several grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held today at 2:45 p.m. at Chaparral House, 1309 Allston Way, Berkeley. Interment services will be on February 9 at 2:30 p.m. at the IOOF Cemetery in Hollister in the family plot. Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home in Hollister is in charge of the arrangements.
Gloria J. Acosta
Gloria Acosta, a teacher’s aide for R.O. Hardin, died January 25. She was 60.
Mrs. Acosta was born in El Mulato, Chihuahua, Mexico and came to San Benito 41 years ago. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church and New Beginnings, was a former member of Local 890 Warehousemen and the Teamsters of Salinas.
Mrs. Acosta loved to cook and collect porcelain figurines. She had worked for both the Hollister Canning Company and Fairview Packing Company. Mrs. Acosta was a teacher’s aid for the Hollister School District for over 10 years.
Mrs. Acosta is survived by her husband Robert Acosta of Hollister, daughter Alice Ramona Acosta of Hollister, son Ted Alfredo Jimenez of Fremont, son Sam Felix Jimenez of Texas, and several grandchildren nieces and nephews.
The rosary was Monday at Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home. Mass was Tuesday at Sacred Heart Church.

Austreberto Bermudez
Austreberto Bermudez, a Hollister resident, died January 27. He was 84.
Mr. Bermudez was born in Queretaro, Qto. Mexico and came to the United States in 1942, where he resided in Colorado. He returned to Mexico, where he married his wife Felicitas in 1948, and they moved to Texas and then worked their way to California in 1955. They lived in the Santa Rosa area and came to Hollister in 1967. He last worked for the Chardee Ranch as a tractor driver.
Mr. Bermudez was a member of Sacred Heart Church.
Mr. Bermudez is survived by his daughter Mary B. Gonzalez of Brownsville, Texas, son Pete Bermudez of Gilroy, son Felix Bermudez of Hollister, son Marty Bermudez of Seaside, daughter Judy Rodriguez of Hollister, and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Felicitas Bermudez, who died in 1997, son Ralph Bermudez, daughter Socorro B. Joaquin and son Austreberto "Bobby" Bermudez.
Friends can pay their respect to Mr. Bermudez today at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home until 9 p.m. Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home and then proceed to Sacred Heart Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m.
Interment and graveside services will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery.
Manuel J. Furtado, Jr.
Manuel Furtado Jr., a World War II veteran, died January 29. He was 79.
Mr. Furtado was born in San Jose and came to San Benito in 1950. He served in the 8th Air Force in World War II in England. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Church, S.D.E.S. Lodge of Hollister and a former member of the Hollister Elks’ Lodge. Mr. Furtado was a field supervisor for Krueger Foods Inc. in Gilroy and formerly had been with Del Monte and Vlassic Foods.
Mr. Furtado is survived by his wife, Evelyn D. Furtado of Hollister, son David M. Furtado of Lakeview, Oregon, daughter Kathleen Mozzone of Gilroy, brother Clarence Furtado of San Jose, and several grandchildren.
Friends may visit at the Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home today after 10 a.m. and are invited to attend the recitation of the Holy Rosary Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Services will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. proceeding to St. Benedict Catholic Church, 1200 Fairview Road, Hollister for a funeral Mass commencing at 10 a.m. Entombment will follow at the Mausoleum in Calvary Cemetery.

James R. Hornback
James Hornback, a veteran of World War II, died January 27. He was 73.
Mr. Hornback was born in Mayfield, Kentucky and came to California in 1948. He came to San Benito in 1958 from Southern California. Mr. Hornback served a short period in the U.S. Navy at the end of World War II. He is a member of the Model A Ford Club of America and a technical advisor of the local chapter known as the Cherry A’s. Mr. Hornback was also an avid bowler. He was a businessman for over 30 years in Gilroy as the owner of Gilroy Machining.
Mr. Hornback is survived by his wife Dorothy Hornback of Hollister, son James Robert Hornback Jr. of Hollister, son Glen L. Hornback of Ventura, daughter Kimberley Marquez of Hollister, son Kevin L. Hornback of Gilroy, son Keith A. Hornback of Santa Rosa, son Kerry M. Hornback of Ventura, son Kenneth S. Hornback of Yucca Valley, brother Bob Hornback of St. Charles, Missouri, brother Gordon Wienecke of St. Charles, Missouri, sister Kathy Wilson of North Carolina, 11 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the chapel of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Funeral Home Saturday, February 3 at 1:30 p.m. Arrangements for cremation and private inurnment and under the direction of Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Crematory in Hollister.

Helen E. Lavagnino
Helen Lavagnino, a member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West, died January 25. She was 93.
Mrs. Lavagnino was born February 25, 1907 in San Juan Bautista. She was raised in San Juan Bautista, attending schools in Hollister and graduated from Hollister High in 1925. In 1926 she was married to Laurence J. Lavagnino, Sr. In 1933 they moved to San Francisco and then moved to Santa Maria in 1934, where they continued to reside. She is a long time member of the Native Daughters of the Golden West and also the Order of Eastern Star.
Mrs. Lavagnino is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Larry and Donna Lavagnino of Santa Maria, four grandchildren, four great grandsons and special care-giver, Delia Lopez of Santa Maria. She was preceded in death by her husband Laurence J. Lavagnino.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the San Juan Bautista Cemetery in San Juan Bautista. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Marian Medical Center Foundation, 1400 E. Church St., Santa Maria, CA 93454 or to any favorite charity. Services are under the direction of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary.
Nancy LoBue
Nancy LoBue, mother of Hollister Council Member Tony LoBue, died January 28 after a short but hard-fought battle with cancer. She was 61.
Mrs. LoBue, a native of Sicily, Italy, who lived in Hollister for 25 years, became known in San Benito County last year for her impassioned protests against death penalty foe Sister Helen Prejean. Mrs. LoBue’s beloved daughter, Rosellina, was murdered in a San Jose robbery in 1987.
Mrs. LoBue met and married her husband, orchardist Salvatore LoBue, while visiting San Jose on a tourist visa. They were married for 33 years.
Mrs. LoBue became a homemaker and gave birth to daughter Marie LoBue-Peterson of Hollister and son Tony LoBue. After moving to Hollister from San Jose in 1975, Salvatore LoBue continued farming apricots, cherries and walnuts at orchards around San Benito County and in the Central Valley.
At about the time the family was celebrating Tony LoBue’s District 4 city council victory last November, Nancy LoBue, a non-smoker, was diagnosed with lung cancer.
The family visitation will be Friday evening, Saturday and Sunday at Lima Family Mortuary, 710 Willow Street, San Jose. The rosary will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the mortuary chapel. The funeral procession will leave the chapel at 9:30 a.m. Monday for services at Holy Cross Church in San Jose.
Servo Deus Ribeiro
Servo Deus Ribeiro, a Hollister farmer, died January 24, 2001. He was 96.
Mr. Ribeiro was born Lisbon, Portugal and received the equivalent of a college education in Portugal before coming to America. Mr. Ribeiro had lived in San Benito for over 60 years. He was a member of the I.D.E.S., Old Mission San Juan Bautista, Knights of Columbus, Eagles of Hollister Aeire 1017, San Juan Service Club and teamsters Local 890 of Salinas.
Mr. Ribeiro was a self-employed farmer all his life; he was also a foreman for Hollister Canning Company for 25 years. Prior to working there he was employed at Spreckels Sugar and at Ideal Cement Plant.
He enjoyed raising his own grapes to make wine, growing his vegetables, as well as raising animals. Upon his retirement from the cannery he was a custodian at the Old Mission San Juan Bautista for 15 years, maintaining the mission, its grounds, the altars within the missions and the priests garments all through his generosity.
Mr. Ribeiro is survived by his son, Albert D. Ribeiro of San Juan Bautista, daughter-in-law Esther Aguirre Ribeiro of San Juan Bautista, granddaughter Priscilla Georgina A. Ribeiro of San Juan Bautista, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary M. Ribeiro, who died February 1999.
The funeral was Saturday with interment at San Juan Cemetery.

Eva Geneieve Grow
Eva Geneieve Grow, a Hollister resident, died January 7 at her home. She was 85.
Mrs. Grow was born July 14, 1915, in Ogden, Utah. She married David Wendell Grow on August 30, 1940 and they were married for more than 57 years.
Mrs. Grow and her husband came to San Benito in 1946 and helped settle what was then known as "Harmony Hills" up San Juan Canyon Road in San Juan Bautista. They returned to Utah in 1971.
Mrs. Grow was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints was a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her interests included painting, playing the piano, knitting, playing games with family and entertaining friends. She was a wonderful example of love and charity.
Mrs. Grow is survived by her son David Grow of Pleasant Grove, Utah, son Daniel Grow of Rogue River, Oregon, son Joel Grow of Hollister, son Lorin Grow of Hollister, daughter Chari of Crawford of Orem, Utah, daughter Julie Dabo of Hollister, daughter Cindy Patton of Charleston, West Virginia, 34 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, brother Leon Poulson, sister Helen Phister, sister Fern Turner and sister Bessie Hartwell.
The funeral was January 13 at the Sharon Stake Center in Orem, Utah with Bishop Lon Bowen conducting. Pallbearers were grandsons: Lonny and Steven Grow, Brian and Matthew Grow and Mitch Dabo III and John Dabo. Honorary Pallbearers were grandsons: David Grow III, Gregory Grow, Joel Grow, Jr., Daniel Grow, Jr. and Tyler Dabo. Mrs. Grow was laid to rest at the Orem City Cemetery with the dedicatory prayer given by her son Daniel Grow, Sr.
Ray LeDuc
Ray LeDuc, a veteran of the U.S. Marines, died January 17.
Mr. DeDuc was born and reared in Hollister and moved to Gilroy in 1965. He served in the U.S. Marines in the late 50’s. Mr. DeDuc loved to restore old cars and was an artist, painting in oils. He was a butcher and worked for Nob Hill in Gilroy for many years before getting a job delivering meat for Mohawk Packing Company.
Mr. LeDuc is survived by his wife, Vonceial LeDuc, of Gilroy, daughter Felicia LeDuc of Gilroy, daughter Nanette LeDuc of Newark, grandson Rashawn Smith of San Jose, mother Nettie LeDuc of Hollister, brother Robert LeDuc of Vancouver, Wash., sister Michelle Canez of Hollister, and two nephews.
The funeral was held Tuesday at Grunnagle Ament Nelson. Burial and graveside services followed at I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Servo Deus Ribeiro
Servo Deus Ribeiro, of Gilroy, died January 24. He was 96.
Mr. Ribeiro is the father of Albert Ribeiro of San Juan Bautista. Arrangements are pending through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home.
Henry George Zanger III
Henry George Zanger III, whose father was a founding brother of Casa de Fruta, died Jan. 19 in Colorado after a long battle with cancer. He was 35.
Mr. Zanger grew up on his grandfather’s ranch and often accompanied his father, Henry George Zanger Jr., on agricultural rounds. As a child he swam in Pacheco Creek and camped at the family ranch on Mt. Hamilton.
Mr. Zanger attended grammar school at North County School in Hollister, where he belonged to Ausaymas Cub Scouts and Pacheco 4-H. He graduated from Palma High School in Salinas, where he lettered in football. In 1988 he graduated Summa Cum Laude from De Vry Institute of Technology in Southern California with a B.S. degree in Computer Information Systems. He lived in Denver and worked for Great West Life as a computer programmer/analyst.
Mr. Zanger is survived by his wife, Jodi, and sons Jacob and Zachary of Colorado, and mother, Mary T. Zanger of Hollister, sister Maria Zanger-Middleton of Annapolis, Md., brother Peter Zanger of Hollister, and sister Isabella Zanger of Hollister. He also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles cousins and friends in the area.
The service will be Saturday in Colorado. A memorial fund to benefit his children has been established. A memorial mass will be celebrated at the family home on Feb. 4 at 4 p.m. The address is 7380 Pacheco Pass Highway.
Laura Lenora Bettencourt
Laura Bettencourt, whose daughter lives in Hollister, died January 14. She was 91.
Mrs. Bettencourt was born in San Luis Obispo and after marrying Joseph Silva Bettencourt in 1926, lived in Hayward and Sacramento. Mrs. Bettencourt returned to the area in September.
Mrs. Bettencourt survived by her son Joseph "Stanley" Bettencourt of Sacramento, daughter Laura J. Rossi of Watsonville, daughter Darlene L. Williams of Hollister, daughter Gloria K. Wade of Sacramento, brother Tony Silva of Salinas, sister Eva Filice of Salinas, sister Lorraine Gamboa of Salinas, sister Mamie Di Maggio of Seaside, 29 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. Mrs. Bettencourt was preceded in death by her husband Joseph S. Bettencourt in 1978, daughter Geraldine P. Duncan in 1999, daughter Lucille M. Howard in 1984, daughter Joan N. Machado in 1999, son John C. Bettencourt in 1994, son Arnold M. Bettencourt in 1984.
The service will be January 19 at 7:00 p.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in Sacramento.

Brother Frank Luke Dalton, CFC
Brother Frank Luke Dalton, CFC, a Christian Brother of Ireland, died January 11. He was 63.
Mr. Dalton was born in Philadelphia and moved with his family to Monterey Park when he was eight. After graduating from Cantwell High School, Montebello, he entered the Christian Brothers of Ireland in 1955. As a brother Mr. Dalton taught in Vancouver and Burnaby in British Columbia; Palma High School from 1964 –1969 and 1988 – 1999. Mr. Dalton also taught in the Brother’s high schools in Butte, Montana; Joliet, Illinois; Burbank, Illinois, Bloomfield Hills, Michigan; Cantwell High School, Montebello, California.
Mr. Dalton graduated from Iona College, New Rochelle, N.Y., and earned a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington.
In addition to Mr. Dalton’s teaching duties, he coached football, wrestling, and the pole vault. Mr. Dalton enjoyed mountain hiking and camping out. During his final stay in Salinas, he tutored and counseled the migrant labor camp children in the Gonzales area. Working with the Franciscan Workers, he held summer camps for the pre-teen migrant labor camp children. He was a commissioner on the Monterey County Juvenile Justice Commission.
Mr. Dalton is survived by his mother Sally Dalton of Simi Valley, sister Sally Ryan of Simi Valley, numerous nephews and nieces in Philadelphia and Los Angeles.

Helen E. Davis
Helen E. Davis, a member of the Aromas Grange, died January 12 in Salinas. She was 91.
Mrs. Davis was born in Iowa and moved to Aromas from Castro Valley in 1969. She was an artist who enjoyed working with clay.
Mrs. Davis was wife of the late Harry F. Davis, who died in 1984. She is survived by her children, Vernon Davis of Fresno, Richard Davis of Aromas and Ellen Gardner of Lodi. She also is survived by her brother, Kenneth Cole of Denver, 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by daughters Phyllis Woolson and Linda Voellemeke.
Graveside services were Tuesday at the IOOF Cemetery with the Rev. David Rodriguez of The First Presbyterian Church officiating.
Eleanor R. Diaz
Eleanor Diaz, an interpreter for San Benito County Superior Court, died January 13. She was 68.
Mrs. Diaz was born in Los Angeles, and come to San Benito 65 years ago. Mrs. Diaz was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Teamsters Union Local #890 of Salinas and a Union Representative. She was an interpreter for San Benito Superior Court. She also worked for 35 years as a floor leader last for Tri Valley Growers.
Mrs. Diaz is survived by her husband Jesus Alfonso Diaz of Hollister, daughter Alice Haro of Hollister, son Abbie Diaz of Hollister, son Alfonso Diaz Jr. of Hollister, daughter Diane Diaz Hopkins of Hollister, son Larry Diaz of Hollister, sister Erlinda Carrillo of Hollister, sister Sally Zuniga of Hollister, brother Elidoro Ruiz of Hollister, brother Tony Ruiz of Hollister, sister Josephine Aguirre of Walnut, brother Clemente Ruiz of San Clemente, brother Chapo Ruiz of Los Angeles, 18 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Wednesday with burial and graveside services at Calvary Cemetery.
Mary Ann Elrod
Mary Ann Elrod, a Hollister resident, died January 11. She was 59.
Mrs. Elrod, was born in Redwood City, and lived in Hollister for six months in 1998, though she resided most of her adult life in Sacramento.
Mrs. Elrod is survived by her husband Tim Elrod of Sacramento, daughter Crystal Uribe of San Jose, son Rudy Uribe of Sacramento, son Eddie Uribe of San Jose, sister Shirley Morris of Stockton, sister Bev Caplette of Hollister, sister Barbara Preader of Holland, brother Richard Preader of Corning, brother Billy Preader of Corning, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Visitation is today at 11 a.m. at Black Cooper Sander Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Amelio of Glad Tidings Church officiating. Interment and graveside services will follow the services at Calvary Cemetery in Hollister.
Buzz Hart
Buzz Hart, a lifelong Hollister resident, died January 10. He was 90.
Mr. Hart married his wife Irene, June 21, 1936, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Hollister. He was a contractor and member of Operating Engineers Union and Excavating and Grading Contractors Association. He attended Cal Poly-San Luis Obispo and has a degree in Electrical Engineering. He had been the past president of Hollister Exchange Club.
Mr. Hart is survived by his wife Irene Hart of Hollister, brother Willard Hart of Hollister, nephew Don Hart of Hollister, nephew Jere Ehrich of Hollister, nephew Paul Hart of Houston, nephew Mick Ehrich of Gilroy, and also by other nieces and nephews.
The funeral was Thursday with the Rev. John Amelio of Glad Tidings Church officiating. Interment and graveside services followed at the IOOF Cemetery.
Donations are preferred to San Benito County Library c/o Black Cooper Sander funeral home.
Buster Intravia
Buster Intravia, an orchardist and Elk, died Jan. 16 at Sunbridge Care Center. He was 81.
Mr. Intravia was an avid fisherman and golfer, and was a trucker who once ran the Hollister Weigh Station. He also operated a Yamaha Golf Cart business. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and received a lifetime membership to the Hollister Elks Lodge after 58 years as a member.
Mr. Intravia is survived by his wife, Lucy Intravia of Hollister, and children Chris Intravia of Hollister and Joanne Ramirez of South Pasadena. He also is survived by three granddaughters, seven great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is today from noon until 7 p.m. at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home. The funeral is Friday at 9:30 a.m., proceeding from the funeral home to Sacred Heart Church for a 10 a.m. mass. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
Silvia P. Whitaker
Silvia P. Whitaker, who fled Cuba during the revolution and lived in San Juan Bautista and Gilroy, died January 14. She was 63.
Mrs. Whitaker worked as a technician with Fairchild Industries.
Mrs. Whitaker was married to the late Wayne Whitaker, who died in 1977. She is survived by her son James Whitaker of San Juan Bautista and two grandchildren.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at San Juan District Cemetery in San Juan Bautista. The Rev. John Amelio of Glad Tidings Church will officiate.
