CHESAPEAKE - Staff Sgt. Jonathan Kilian Dozier, U.S. Army, 30, was killed Jan. 9, 2008, during combat operations in Sinsil, Iraq. Born in Norfolk, he was the son of Carl M. Dozier and Martha D. Cabe. Jonathan was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, James and Eleanor Day. Jonathan attended Great Bridge Schools, Fork Union Military Academy, VCU and Middle Tennessee State University. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. He will be remembered for his sensitivity, caring ways and his ability to gather his many friends for “celebrations.” During his tenure in the U.S. Army, he was decorated with the Bronze Star for Valor, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, NCOPD Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, Parachute Badge and Expert Rifle Badge.
Besides his parents, Jonathan is survived by his daughter, Emma Grace Dozier; his sister, Jennifer D. Rider and husband James; three nephews, Jason, Jacob and Sean; paternal grandparents, Wilbur and Marian Dozier; stepmother, Jean Dozier; stepfather, Robert Cabe, stepbrother, Paul Brothers; three stepsisters, Jill Priester and husband P.J., Carla Obregon and husband Jose and Beth Brothers; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the David Adams Memorial Chapel, Naval Station Norfolk. Chaplain Feehan will officiate. Guests will need to enter at gate 2, with a drivers license, registration and proof of insurance. If you have questions regarding base access, please call 444-7361. A reception will follow the service at the Vista Point Club, Naval Station Norfolk. The interment with full military honors will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, in Arlington National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the Great Bridge Chapel of Oman Funeral Home & Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake.
