VIRGINIA BEACH - Eugenio D. Caburian, 67, passed away to be with our Lord Sept. 11, 2007.
He was born in Tondo Manila, Philippines. Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of almost 42 years,
Aurelia Regacho Caburian; a son, Eugene and wife Genalin; grandsons, Jacob and Jared; a granddaughter, Ella Reese; and daughter, Vicky R. Caburian.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. with a Christian wake at 7 p.m. at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home, 601 N. Witchduck Road, Virginia Beach, where a Chalice service will be held. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated Friday at 11 a.m. in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach. Entombment will be in Rosewood Memorial Park.

Roy H. Dye Jr.
VIRGINIA BEACH - Roy H. Dye Jr., 47, of the 2000 block of Salem Road, passed away Sept. 9, 2007.
Mr. Dye was born in California and was a truck driver for Becker American. He was a loving son, father and husband. He lived every second of his life to the fullest. He was preceded in death by his father, Roy H. Dye Sr.; and two brothers, Robert and Mark Sr.
Survivors include his mother, Lillian R. Massie and stepfather, Allen Massie of Norfolk; a brother, Mark and his wife Angela; a nephew, Mark Dye Jr.; Roy’s wife, Shiella Marie Dye; two daughters, Somer and her fiance Evan and Heather; six grandchildren, Nathan, Seth, Heaven, Katie, Aryauna and Gavin who will dearly miss Papa Roy.
A memorial service will be held Thursday at 6 p.m. in St. Aidans Episcopal Church, 3201 Edinburgh Drive, Virginia Beach.

Darryl S. Stokes
TACOMA, Wash. - Darryl S. Stokes, 28, was called home to be with our Father Sept. 3, 2007, in King County, Washington.
Born in Portsmouth, he served six years in the U.S. Army. After honorably serving his country, he was employed at Tacoma General Hospital as a radiologic technologist. He attended Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, and went on to graduate from Austin E. Lathrop High School, Fairbanks, Alaska.
Surviving are two sons, Yhatti A. Stokes of San Diego, Calif., and Marco Stokes of Virginia; mother, Janet (Jessie) Clark of Chester, Va.; stepfathers, Jesse Clark of Chester, Va., and Bishop Darryl S. Adams Sr. of Portsmouth; sisters, Ahisha Bryant and Dorothy Stokes, both of Portsmouth; three nieces, Bazjulae Stokes, Dallis Bryant and Anitris Jones; one nephew, Tremayne Taylor Jr., all of Portsmouth; close cousin, Antonio Peoples of Portsmouth; close friends, Delmas Brown, all of the Full Tilt Riders and the Ruff Riders of Tacoma, Wash.; and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends. “Party like a rock star. You will truly be missed.”
A funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in Point Harbour Community Church, Chesapeake, by the Rev. John Houston and Bishop D. Stefan Adams. Burial will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery, Suffolk. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. Thursday. Dorothy B. Outten
PORTSMOUTH - Dorothy Bradshaw Outten, 99, died Sept. 12, 2007.
Mrs. Outten, a native of Windsor, Va., was the widow of William Randolph Outten. She was former co-owner of Peter Rabbit Nursery School, Port Norfolk and a member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Bette O. Ashberry of Portsmouth; two grandchildren, Claude R. Ashberry and wife Holly and Jerilee A. Smith and husband Scott, both of Chesapeake; six great-grandchildren, Randy Jr., Dawn, Justin, Danielle, Kelly and Ashley; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Norfolk by the Rev. Ruth Burgess. Friends may join the family Friday from 7 to 8 p.m. in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Essie Mae Alexander
CHESAPEAKE - Essie Mae Alexander, 92, of the 1000 block of Alexander Lane, was called home to be with the Lord Sept. 10, 2007. Born in Elizabeth City, N.C., she was a seamstress for more than 50 years. She was a former member of Mount Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church, Bells Mill Road, for more than 80 years, where she was a Sunday school teacher, a deaconess, a member of the senior usher board and active in the Missionary Society. She has been a member of Mount Olive AME Church for four years.
She was predeceased by her husband, Emmett H. Alexander; a daughter, Corene Roberts; and a sister, Dorothy G. Lane. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn R. Alexander and Sharon A. Copeland (Lloyd), all of Chesapeake; two sons, Dr. Raymond H. Alexander (Mary) of Chesapeake and Ledell W. Alexander (Sheila) of Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Sophia Alexander; a caregiver, Ida Cromuel; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Saturday in New Mount Olive AME Church, 1953 Campostella Road, Chesapeake. Interment will follow in Roosevelt Memorial Park. James E. Allen Jr.
CHESAPEAKE - James W. “Jimmy” Allen Jr., 55, of Hazel Avenue, went to be with the Lord Sept. 11, 2007. He was born in Norfolk March 1, 1952, to the late James W. Allen Sr. and Eunice Jean Bess Allen. Jimmy attended Parkway Christian Center, where he also enjoyed serving on the staff as maintenance coordinator.
He worked for 24 years in the public works department of the Norfolk Naval Base. He had a servant’s heart and was often busy helping his family, neighbors, church and friends with odd jobs and repairs. After God spared his life four years ago, he committed himself to Jesus Christ and was ready to spend eternity with Him when called.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 37 years, Karen Allen; two daughters, Teresa Green and Katy Vasconcellos; seven grandchildren; brother, Timothy Allen; four sisters, Linda Glazebrook, Patricia Irwin, Joann Oliver and Sheila Sexton. Also left to cherish his memory are many close friends and neighbors.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Parkway Christian Center conducted by the Rev. Ernest Trueblood and the Rev. Robbie Jones. A reception in the church will immediately follow. John T. James Jr.
CHESAPEAKE - John T. James Jr., 81, of the 300 block of Fernwood Farms Road, passed away Sept. 7, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born Sept. 21, 1925, to the late Edna and John T. James Sr. in Bertie County, North Carolina, where he received his education in the Bertie County public schools.
He entered the U.S. Army and served in Germany during World War II. John retired after 29 years of service from The Virginian-Pilot as a delivery driver and also after 31 years of service from Sears as a battery operator.
He was a faithful member of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church for more than 60 years. He served as immediate past chairman of the Deacons Ministry, former member of the Male Choir and was a graduate of the I. Joseph Williams Bible College. John served as scoutmaster of Troop 79, Boy Scouts of America-Tidewater Park, team coach for the Tidewater Park Giants baseball team and president of United Christians Front for Brotherhood. He was predeceased by his first wife, Alberta James.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted, loving and caring wife, Helen T. James of the home; two daughters, Diane C. Sharp (Wayne) of Chicago and Sherry A. Lewis of Tampa, Fla.; three sons, John M. James (Betty) of Chesapeake, Kenneth W. James of Fort Myers, Fla., and Ervin D. James (Lydia) of Chesapeake; two sisters, Piccola Knowles and Rachel Stokes, both of Ossiling, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; 27 nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Shirley Ann Perkins
CHESAPEAKE - Shirley Ann Perkins of the 2700 block of Sunrise Ave., transitioned into eternal life Sept. 8, 2007, at Sentara Nursing Center in Hampton. She was born Feb. 6, 1938, in Norfolk to John and Cora Fields. Our beloved mother received her formal education from Norfolk public schools. She provided 36 years of faithful service to Sentara Leigh Hospital with several years as a supervisor in Environmental Services.
Mother loved her family. She was devoted to her husband of 39 years, the late Harold L. Perkins Sr. She was also preceded in death by her mother, Cora Fields; grandmother, Mary E. Watford; grandfather, Arthur Watford; and maternal first cousin, Delores McIver Wyatt.
Those left to be encouraged by her legacy of love include two loving daughters, Patricia Ann Perkins of Chesapeake and Beverly Perkins Williams (the Rev. Michael) of Hampton; one dutiful son, Audwin Arthur Perkins (Lavanda) of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Mia Nicole Perkins of Norfolk, Kimara and Audrey Perkins both of Hampton, Andre Michael Williams of Atlanta, Ga., Julie Perkins of Virginia Beach and Bruce and Bryan Perkins both of Charlotte, N.C.; three great-grandsons, Jalen, Xavier and Koby; two stepchildren, Bruce Perkins (Wanda) of Charlotte and I. CHESAPEAKE - Michelle “Shell” or “Shelly Gal” Wilson, 47, of the 1900 block of Bluebonnet St., passed away Sept. 9, 2007.
She was born Dec. 4, 1959, in Norfolk. She was a graduate of Great Bridge High School and Tidewater Community College, Chesapeake. Michelle was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, Chesapeake. She was employed at Beth Sholom Village for 20 years as a housekeeper.
She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Grady Wilson; one daughter, Tiffany Wilson; one son, Brandon Wilson; her mother, Mary Blount Mercer; her father, Lewis Mercer, all of Chesapeake; five sisters, Rhodia Mercer and Christe Harmon, both of Chesapeake, Turisa Mercer of Portsmouth, Lillian Rascoe (Joe) of Jackson, N.C., and Gail Hines of Jasper, Ala.; two brothers-in-law, Edward C. NORFOLK - Valerie D. Bryant, 42, of the 6200 block of Alexander St., passed away Sept. 8, 2007, in Bon Secours DePaul Medical Center. She was born Nov. 3, 1964, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and was a homemaker. She was predeceased by her mother, Alma Bryant and a brother, Maurice Bryant.

Clint A. Parker Jr.
NORFOLK - Clint A. Parker Jr., 75, of the 7400 block of Hughart St., passed away Sept. 10, 2007, in Sentara Leigh Hospital. He was born Sept. 6, 1932, in Norfolk. He retired from NARF and also was employed at CFE Air Cargo for a number of years.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Ella V. Parker; two daughters, Sharon B. Parker and Renee Bailey, both of Norfolk; two sons, Ronald A. Parker of Norfolk and Michael A. Parker Sr. of Chesapeake; three sisters, Theresa Johnson and June Richardson, both of Norfolk and Roberta Richardson of Georgia; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Mary M. Banks
VIRGINIA BEACH - Mary M. Banks, 55, went to be with the Lord Sept. 11, 2007. She was born Aug. 6, 1952, in Oakland, Calif., to the late John E. and Bernadina Wetter. Mary was a big hearted person, a loving mother to her own children and many spare kids and stray animals. She was extremely competitive and loved playing games. Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister who will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 36 years (together almost 40), Herman F. Banks, lieutenant commander retired, of Virginia Beach; two sons, John Patrick and Christopher Paul Banks both of Virginia Beach; grandchildren, Tyler Anthony, Brianna Kaye and Ashley Nic- hole Banks; brother, Brian E. Wetter and wife Linda S. of Martinsburg, W.Va.; and spare sons, Stephen Josef Arnold and wife Elaina Marie and Brandon Bangert, all of Virginia Beach and a host of other loving family and friends.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of The Good Shepherd, NAS Oceana. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park, Virginia Beach.

Alton N. Gregory
VIRGINIA BEACH - Alton N. Gregory, 90, of Pickwick Road, departed this life Sept. 11, 2007, due to a prolonged illness from a stroke suffered in April of 2007.
He leaves to cherish his memory a loving, caring wife, Virginia J. Gregory after 61 years of wedded bliss; twin sons, John A. Gregory and wife Pat and Scott N. Gregory; a granddaughter, Ashley; and a grandson, Andrew. He was predeceased by a daughter-in-law, Rene P. Gregory.
Mr. Gregory was retired from Exxon after 30 years of service, as did his wife Virginia. Mr. Gregory was an honest and outstanding gentleman respected by all who knew him.
Mr. Gregory was a member of the Ruth Masonic Lodge No. 89 AF&AM for more than 60 years and both he and his wife were members of Haygood United Methodist Church for many years.
A service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Charles Shumate and Dr. Donald H. Traylor officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum. Edward E. Keiger

VIRGINIA BEACH - Edward E. Keiger, 85, passed away Sept. 11, 2007. He was predeceased by his wife, Ruth.
Edward retired from the military after 20 years of service; he was a veteran of World War II with the 3rd Marine Division, serving in campaigns on Bouganville, Guam and Iwo Jima and he was a veteran of the Korean conflict in the U.S. Navy. After his military career, Edward served and retired as manager of ABC stores.
Survivors include two daughters, Teresa Keiger of Maryland and Diane Nolette of Chesapeake; three sons, John Stein of Virginia Beach, Thomas Stein of Coinjock, N.C., and Edward M. Keiger of Virginia Beach; a brother, Lowell Keiger of Springfield, Ill.; a sister, Edrie McMakin of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. in Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home where a funeral will be held Friday at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park.

David La Montagne Sr.
VIRGINIA BEACH - David E. La Montagne Sr. was born in Springfield, Mass., Sept. 7, 1949, and died after a valiant battle with ALS (Lou Gehrigs’s Disease) Sept. 11, 2007. Dave was a graduate of Minnechaug High School Wilbraham, Mass., and St. Leo University, Tampa, Fla. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the young age of 18. He served his country proudly on the USS Caloosahatchee, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS Dahlgren, USS Independence and the USS Shenandoah twice. Dave was commissioned as a limited duty officer in 1981 and retired as a lieutenant commander in May 1991.
He was then hired as the quality assurance manger at AMSEC. Dave took to his role at AMSEC eagerly and quickly showed his worth. He was promoted to program manager for the company’s flagship contract, Carrier Engineering Maintenance Assist Team (CEMAT), in 1993. He was promoted to assistant vice president in 1999 and ultimately retired as vice president. Dave was bestowed with the ultimate honor of being inducted into the AMSEC Hall of Fame. To honor Dave’s performance and memory, the AMSEC executives created the David E. LaMontagne Leadership Award. This award honors those AMSEC individuals who exemplify his leadership skills.
Dave was a giving and caring man who only saw the best in people and because of that he made our lives better every day. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and was able to teach everyone simple rules of life that they have used and passed on to their children. David eagerly pursued his faith in God and spread the word of God to all of those who would listen. He has always been a hands-on kind of guy using his tools to build things like the family dinner table where many meals were enjoyed.
David was predeceased by his father, David N. LaMontagne in 1968 and his mother, Emily LaMontagne Sept. 2, 2007. David is survived by his loving wife, Cindy LaMontagne of Virginia Beach; two sisters, Jeanne Toth and husband Wayne of Jacksonville, Fla., and Dianne Montalban of Virginia Beach; seven children, Traci Pike and her husband Todd, David E. LaMontagne Jr., Joseph LaMontagne, Tamara LaMontagne and Luke Hillier and his wife Colleen, Michael Hillier and his wife Catherine of Virginia Beach and Lindsey Hillier of Virginia Beach; seven granddaughters and four grandsons and many other family and friends who loved him and will always remember him.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel. Emma McRae
VIRGINIA BEACH - Emma McRae, 87, passed away Sept. 11, 2007. She was born in Irwin, Pa., to the late William and Emma Bowling and was predeceased by her husband, Oliver F. McRae.
Emma is survived by Randy McRae and wife April of Virginia Beach; Jackie Liverman; and her stepgrandchildren, Shelly and Daniel Harrell of Norfolk, Erin and Nick Tanner of Virginia Beach, Larry and Terry Liverman.
Emma worked as a civil service employee with the U.S. Navy, was a past president of the NALC Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed ballroom dancing.
A graveside service will be held Friday at 1 p.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens in the Avenue of Flags, 6329 Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk, VA 23502. An online guest book can be signed at www.woodlawngroup.com.

Marvin R. Bobbitt Jr.
CHESAPEAKE - Marvin R. “Bob” Bobbitt Jr., 72, passed away Sept. 13, 2007, in a local health care center.
Born in Henderson, N.C., Mr. Bobbitt was a locomotive engineer with Norfolk and Southern Railroad and a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. He attended Deep Creek Baptist Church and was a U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by four sisters and a brother, Jean Turmel of Chesapeake, Estelle B. Umphlette of Portsmouth, Edna C. Bobbitt of Centennial, Colo., William A. Bobbitt and wife Barbara of Chesapeake and Carolyn B. Johnson and husband John of Richmond, Va.; and nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Snellings Funeral Home, George Washington Highway Chapel, with the Rev. H. John Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Frances T. Clarke
CHESAPEAKE - Frances Talley Clarke, 85, of the 2300 block of Deerfield Crescent, passed away Sept. 13, 2007, in her residence. She was a native of Danville, Va.
Survivors include her husband, Irvin W. Clarke; a daughter, Carolyn Warren of Beaufort, N.C.; a son, James T. Clarke and wife Vicki of Grandy, N.C.; a sister, Ruby Shumate of Danville; a niece, Frances Lynn Horsley of Danville; four grandchildren, Troy Clarke, Bryan Clarke, Michael Mister and Jerry Craft; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor Clarke, C.J. Clarke, Chad Mister and Jessica Craft.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel. Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

Celestine W. Holmes

NORFOLK - Celestine Winfield Holmes, 84, of the 900 Block of E. Liberty St., went home to be with the Lord Sept. 10, 2007, in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Anne Winfield and Vivian L. “Bootsie” Russell; four grandchildren, Michelle Russell, Stacey Russell, Courney Corum and Corey Corum; and a host of relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at noon Monday in First Baptist Church, Berkley.
Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. in Pretlow and Sons Funeral Home, Chesapeake, where the family will receive friends from 3 to 4 p.m.

Nathan Poole
NORFOLK - Nathan “Nate” Poole, 39, of the 1300 block of Maltby Ave., passed away Sept. 9, 2007. He was born Dec. 13, 1967, in Norfolk and was a graduate of Lake Taylor High School. He was employed at Grace Foods as a packer/cooker. He was predeceased by his father, William H. Poole and grandmother, Viola Holley.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Catina Poole; one daughter, Bianca Wiggins; two sons, Nathan Wiggins and Daiquan Wiggins, all of Norfolk; his mother, Rose P. Poole; three sisters, Sharon Brown, Najla Poole and Aaronetta Barkley; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Metropolitan Funeral Service, 7246 Granby St. Pastor Melvin Futrell will officiate. Interment will be in Riverside Memorial Park, Norfolk. Family and friends will assemble at 1332 Maltby Ave. Apt. C one hour prior to the service for the procession to the chapel. Viewing will be from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. Kyone S. Johnson
VIRGINIA BEACH - Infant Kyone Sincere Johnson, of the 1000 block of Old Clubhouse Road, died Sept. 12, 2007, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital.
Survivors include her parents, Elroy W. Johnson III and Kacella Bass, both of Virginia Beach; grandparents, Leroy and Sharon Young of Norfolk; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by grandparents, Miles and Christinia White.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Roosevelt Memorial Park with Pastor Janece Bell officiating. A viewing will be held from 3:30 to 6 p.m. Monday in Carlos A.
