MUNCY, John F. Muncy, 76 years old, retired Minister Emeritus of the First Christian Church; Atchison died Sunday, August 13th, 2006 at his apartment in Mall Towers, Atchison, KS.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, August 17th, 2006 at the First Christian Church with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. The body has been cremated and private family burial of the cremated remains where held at the Mt. Vernon Cemetery.Memorials are suggested to the First Christian Church. John was born on Oct. 16, 1929 in New Orleans, Louisiana the son of William L. and Stella (Eubank) Muncy. Rev. Muncy received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Missouri State College and graduated from the Central Baptist Seminary. He was Ordained in August of 1947. Rev. Muncy held pastorates in Mattoon, ILL.; Florence, Missouri; Otterville, MO; Platte City, MO.: Farmington, New Mexico; Saint Louis, MO.; and Louisiana, MO. From 1968 to 1973 he worked as an area sales manager for United Church Directories of Galion, Ohio. He came to Atchison in 1973 to run Project Concern. He went from there to directing an Indian manpower program under the CETA Act for United Tribes of Kansas. Rev. Muncy then went to the First Christian Church and was the Senior Minister there from April 1, 1977 until he retired on December 31, 1994. He presently is the Minister Emeritus of the First Christian Church of Atchison. John enjoyed carpentry, yard work.
Rev. Muncy was married to Carlene Cage on June 19, 1949. They were later divorced in Aug. 1968. He later was married to Gretchen Brittian Holmes on October 4, 1974. Mrs. Muncy preceded him in death on January 18, 2000. Survivors include a son; Rev. Jerry F. Muncy, Leavenworth, KS., two daughters; Joni Seiffert, Overland Park, KS., and Jenny Donaldson, Kansas City, MO., three brothers; Rev. Glenn E. Muncy, Grove, OK., Rev. Robert L. Muncy, Richmond, VA., and William C. Muncy, North Hollywood, CA., a sister, Marguerite Richards, San Marcos, CA., five grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

STILLINGS, Margaret Alice Stillings. 95 years old, of Atchison, KS. died Sunday, August 13, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Rev. Lee Hendon, Pastor of the First Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 9:00 AM until time of service on Wednesday at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Margaret A. Clements was born on March 19, 1911, in Atchison, KS., the daughter of Junior Maywood and Hazel Adda (Hartman) Clements. She attended the Farmington Grade School, the Farmington High School for two years and graduated from the Atchison County Community High School, Effingham in 1929. Mrs. Stillings worked for over 10 years at the Blish-Mize Company, in 1956 she began secretarial work at the former Rockwell International in Atchison and remained there for 17 years . Mrs. Stillings was a member of the First Christian Church, Atchison for nearly 40 years, was a Deaconess Emeritus of the church. She was a member of the Friendship Rebekah Lodge #288, and the Martha Washington Chapter #215, Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Stillings enjoyed crocheting, crafts and was an avid reader.
She was married to Elmer Earl Stillings on August 30, 1941 in Highland Kansas. They were later divorced. Survivors include two daughters; Mrs. Barbara and her husband Buzz Shippers, Kansas City, MO., and Connie and her husband Gary Bryant, Grand Isle, VT. Two grandchildren; Jeff Bryant, Grand Isle, VT., and Marti Bryant Preston, Flagstaff, AZ. and three great grandchildren; Tyler Bryant, Molly Bryant, Joey Preston. And two step great grandchildren; Jonathan and Jeremy Preston. Several cousins, nieces and nephews. Her parents, brother, and two sisters preceded her in death.

HAWK, Margery M. Hawk, 91, of Effingham, KS died Monday, August 7, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 12, 2006 at the Effingham Union Church with Rev. Jack Albright officiating. A visitation will be held at O'Trimble Funeral Home in Effingham from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday, August 11, 2006. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery, Effingham. Margery M. Hawk was born on August 19, 1914 in Effingham, the daughter of Robert T. and Bertha B. (English) Hawk. She attended school in Effingham. Margery helped her father on the family farm. She was a member of the Effingham Union Church and a charter member of the Sunny Hill Thimble Club, Effingham. She enjoyed gardening, playing bingo and being with her family, especially during the 90th Hawk family reunion which was held recently.
Margery was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Robert, Calvin, and Hobart Hawk; and one sister, Wilda Strine.
Survivors include ten nieces and nephews, including Chuck and Diana Hawk, Bill and Debby Hawk, Wayne and Pat Strine, and Clyde and Lorraine Strine, all of Effingham, Don and Beth Hawk of Atchison, Todd and Julie Baker of Lancaster, and Steve and Peggy Farrell of Leavenworth, KS; 23 Great nieces and nephews, 15 great-great nieces and nephews.

GILLILAND, Inez Esther Pearl Gilliland, 84, Atchison, KS. passed away Thursday, August 3, 2006 at her home.
Graveside services will be 3:30 PM Tuesday, August 8, 2006 at Sumner Cemetery south of Atchison, KS. Visitation will be from 2:00-3:00 PM Tuesday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Sumner Cemetery Association and left in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Gilliland was born May 15, 1922 in Ord, NE. the daughter of George P. and Josephine (Regnary) Stensrud. Inez lived in the Atchison area most of her life. She was a homemaker. She enjoyed feeding birds, gardening, watching old Shirley Temple movies and her two pet dogs. She especially loved being with family.
She married Charles W. Gilliland on August 18, 1940. He preceded her in death on December 4, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her daughters Josephine Gilliland in 1957 and Shirley Lewis in 1997. Great granddaughter Pearl Poos, sisters Georgia Olson and Lillian Stensrud, brother Clyde Stensrud and a twin brother Jackie Earl Stensrud.
Survivors include her son Chuck Gilliland and his wife Pam of Atchison. 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; sister Lillie Truman of Atchison and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

STANTON, Speed William Stanton, 90, Atchison, KS passed away Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at Heartland Regional Medical Center.
Memorial services will be 1:30 PM Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the First Christian Church with the Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. The body has been cremated. Inurnment will be at Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church and left in care of the funeral home.
Mr. Stanton was born April 10, 1916 in Atchison, KS the son of John C. and Amanda Inez (Bailey) Stanton. He grew up on the family farm in Platte County southeast of Atchison. He attended Platte County School # 13 in a one-room schoolhouse and later attended high school in Atchison, KS. He attended St. Benedict in 1935 and graduated from Wentworth Military Academy in 1937. He was a part time student at George Washington University from 1938 to 1941 and was employed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Beach Erosion and Shore Protection Board, which in 1941 became part of the Corps Intelligence Department, frozen on the job for the duration of WWII, was classified as a Photogrammetric Engineer. Speed was a member of the First Christian Church and an Elder Emeritus. He was a life member of the Kansas Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers having served on board, and a term as president. He served as Chairman of Platte County, MO Farm Bureau, the Platte County Zoning and Planning Commission and various school, levee district boards, Circuit and District Court Commissioner appointments. He was a past member of the Rushville Masonic Lodge, the Atchison Rotary Club, and Bellevue Country Club. He served as President of the Atchison Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Atchison Economic Development Board during the acquisition and development of the Shannon Industrial Park. He served on the Board of Directors of Exchange National Bank from 1958 to 1965. From 1960 to 1965 he served as Vice President and Ag. Rep of Exchange National Bank. From 1966 to 1980 he was associated with the Commerce Investment Company as a Real Estate Broker in Kansas and Missouri, Independent Fee Appraiser, and Professional Farm Manager. In 1980 he sold his interest in the company and continued as an independent broker. In 2002 Speed continued his interest in farm management, agriculture consultant and real estate appraisal. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed Lake Ida near Alexandria, MN.
He married Madalyn Francis Brahler on September 14, 1939. She preceded him in death on October 31, 1973. He later married Joan L. Roth in 1975, they divorced in 1994. On February 21, 1996 he married Emma Jo Foley, great wife and best friend!
Additional survivors include his daughter Sheila C. Stanton and her husband David Geddes of St. Louis, MO. Grandchildren Amanda Stanton-Geddes and her husband Andrew McCulloh, Vanessa Stanton-Geddes, twins John Stanton-Geddes and Michael Stanton-Geddes, adopted French granddaughter Agnes Rey. Great grandchildren Henry Speed (lil Speed) McCulloh, twins Greg and Dean McCulloh and beloved family friend Nancy Piercy.
Speed was preceded in death by his first wife Madalyn and his son Richard B. Stanton on June 18, 1966, and his parents.

PETERS, Paulina Kautz Bruns Peters, 92 years old of Orange County, CA, died Monday, July 31, 2006 in California.
Funeral Services will be 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 5, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home in Atchison, KS with Rev. Robert Ziegler, officiating. Burial will be in the Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Atchison, KS. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Mrs. Peters are suggested to a charity of the donor's choice and may be left in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Peters was born August 11, 1913 in Stillwater, Oklahoma, the daughter of John George and Martha Marie (Scholz) Kautz. She attended schools in Oklahoma and Atchison. She resided in Atchison from 1921 to 1946.
She married William A. Bruns of Farmington, Kansas in 1946 and they moved to California to live. William Bruns passed away in 1959. She married Harry J. Peters on April 21, 1964. He passed away on January 27, 1998.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, George Henry Kautz; six sisters, Anna Schmitz, Emma Mueller, Mathilda Johnson, Minnie Nestler, Christina Hale, and Hilda Englert; nephews, Glen Kautz and George Johnson; a niece, Ruth Johnson; a great-niece, Laura Englert; and a great-nephew, James P. Kautz.
Paulina is survived by a two sisters, Ruth Hale of Atchison and Alveda Juencke of Lynchburg, TN, a step-son, Darrell Peters and his wife, Sharon, of Orange County, CA; one niece, Ruth Ann and Tom Taylor of Douglas, MI; six nephews and their families, George 'Bud' and JoAnn Kautz, Mrs. Glen (Emogene) Kautz, and Wayne and Connie Hale, all of Atchison, Kenneth and Marcia Nestler of Davenport, IA, Don and Rose Juencke of Lynchburg, TN, David and Lynda Juencke of Germany, and Darrel and Mary Englert of La Mirada, CA.

WEAVER, Walker Mavrick Jay Weaver, Atchison, KS passed away Monday, July 31, 2006 at Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, August 3, 2006 at New Life Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Ken Watkins officiating. Burial at Oak Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the Royal Rangers and Missionetts and left in care of Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Walker was born June 6, 2006 in Atchison, KS the son of Shelby 'Jay' and Jackie Rae (Lee) Weaver.
Our 'Little Man' sent from heaven above, our greatest gift. Spoiled rotten by my big sisters who wanted to carry me all over. We will miss our 'Walker Dog' to precious for this world.
Survivors include his parents Jay and Jackie Weaver; sisters Melody and KayLee Weaver all of Atchison. Maternal grandmother Kelly Thompson; maternal grandfather Danny Lee. Paternal grandmother Linda Nadine Gurtis and her husband Eddie; grandfather Elmer Lee Weaver, Sr. and his wife Sharon. Maternal great grandmother Wanda Lee and paternal great grandmother Gail Zink. And several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Walker was preceded in death by his maternal great grandfather Billy Joe Lee.

FINKELSTEIN, Jack Finkelstein, 69, of Atchison, KS, died July 26, 2006 at his residence in Atchison, KS.
Cremation is planned and no services will be held. The Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.
Jack was born Oct. 2, 1936 in New York City, NY, the son of Meyer and Lillian (Lapidus) Finkelstein. He graduated from high school in New York. An infant daughter preceded Jack in death.
Survivors include one sister, Sallie Schertz of Delray Beach, FL; one nephew, Paul Schertz of Odessa, FL; one niece, Lauren West of West Palm Beach, FL.

BALL, John T. 'Tom' Ball, 76 years old, of Atchison, KS., died Wednesday, July 26th, 2006 at the Atchison Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, with Chaplain Jack Albright officiating. Burial will follow in the Sumner Cemetery, south of Atchison. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 PM on Monday, July 31st. 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home. Tom was born on Sept. 10, 1929 in St. Joseph, MO., the son of Bert and Martha E. (Edwards) Ball. He was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. Mr. Ball worked for over 40 years for the City of Atchison. He worked as a grader for the Street Department, and later at the sewage treatment plant. He retired in 1993. Mr. Ball enjoyed tinkering, making chairs and furniture from scrap pieces, and woodworking. He also enjoyed fishing and mushroom hunting.
Mr. Ball was married to Dorothy M. Martin on June 15, 1951 at the First Christian Church. Mrs. Ball survives of the home. Additional survivors include two sons; John T. and his wife Katherine Ball, Jr., Atchison, KS. and Donald E. and his wife Lynne Ball, Huron, KS., three daughters; Patricia L. and her husband Roger Newman, Berrington, KS., Diana M. and her husband Carl Lewis, Atchison, KS., and Dorothy E. and her husband Kelley Fireoved, Bonner Springs, KS., a sister; Mrs. Jackie Bullock, St. Joseph, MO., nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren. His parents, a brother, James A. Ball, and two sisters; Martha McKibben, and Rebecca Fridell, and a grandson; John T. Ball, III, preceded him in death.

TURNER, John B. 'Jack' Turner, 79 years old of Atchison, KS. died Wednesday, July 26, 2006 at the Atchison Medicalodge.
Funeral services will be 10:00 AM on Saturday, July 29th, 2006 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Jeff Cochran, Pastor of the Effingham Union Church officiating. Burial will be in the Monrovia Cemetery. A Masonic Service will be held at 6:15 PM on Friday, July 28th, at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with visitation to follow until 8:30 PM. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Monrovia Cemetery Endowment Fund or the Effingham Union Church. Condolences to the family may be left on line at www.beckerdyer.com.
John B. 'Jack' Turner was born on January 30, 1927 in Monrovia, KS., the son of John B. and Bessie (Bishop) Turner. Jack attended Monrovia grade school, and graduated from A.C.C.H.S. (Atchison County Community High School in 1945. He was active in football; basketball, track and F.F.A. Jack had received the State Farmer degree in 1945 and was active in the Shinning Star 4-H Club as a Junior Leader. He enlisted in the United States Navy in Jan. of 1945. He spent 26 months aboard the ship, which took part in Operation Crossroad Atomic Bomb test. The rest of his service time was in the southwestern Pacific and one year in Shanghai China. He was discharged in Jan. of 1948.
He moved to Atchison in 1952 and worked for Kansas Power and Light Co. for 33 years as a lineman, and the last 15 years as general foreman for Atchison/Leavenworth Division. He retired in 1988. After retiring he enjoyed attending auctions, refinishing old furniture, yard work, gardening, and spending time with family. Mr. Turner was a member of the I.B.E.W. local union #304, a charter member and President since 1985 of the Shannon Township Volunteer Fire Department. He was Past Commander of the Effingham Lodge A.F. & A.M, and now a member of the Active Lodge #158, Atchison, KS. He served on the Advisory Board for the Industry & Electricity for N.E.K.A Vo-technical School for a number of years. Jack also served on the Trustee Board for Memorial Hall, the Monrovia Cemetery Board of Trustees, and the Monrovia Cemetery Endowment Association. He was a former member of the Atchison United Methodist Church where he served on the Board of Trustees, Finance, Missions, Education and as Treasurer for many years. He was a member of the Fleming-Jackson-Seever American Legion Post #6, Atchison, KS. and the V.F.W. Post # 1175, Atchison, KS., and the Atchison County Emergency Preparedness.
Jack was married to Mary E. Ladwig on Jan. 13, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Atchison, KS.. She preceded him in death on June 9, 1993. His parents, two sisters; Jane Reichart, and Sally Turner also preceded him in death. Survivor's include a son; John B. Turner, II, Kansas City, Mo., a grandson, Mark Bishop Turner, Kansas City, Mo., two sisters; Mary Jean Kuckelman, San Antonio, TX., and Ann Cargile, Mobile, AL., and companion of many years; Geneva Dunster, Atchison, KS.
