U.S., Social Security Death Index, 1935-2014

Mary Alice Fox Ingram, age 78, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. She was born in Alexander County May 21, 1925, the daughter of the late John Dallas Fox and Clara Catherine Bowman Fox. She had been employed as a supervisor in the furniture industry at Lewittes and Broyhill Furniture Industries and had also worked in a cotton mill and at Schneider Mills. Mrs. Ingram was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Ingram; one brother, Earl Junior Fox; and one sister, Mildred Warren. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Tevepaugh and husband David and Linda Gwaltney and husband David, all of Taylorsville; two grandsons, Charles Tevepaugh of Conover and Jason Gwaltney of Taylorsville; two granddaughters, Dawn Tevepaugh of Conover and Stacy Gwaltney of Taylorsville; three brothers, John Richard “Buck” Fox, Frank Fox, and Jimmy Fox, all of Statesville; one sister, Evelena Lowe of Taylorsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Hwy. 16, South, Taylorsville, with Rev. Dan Spears officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included David Tevepaugh, David Gwaltney, Charles Tevepaugh, and Jason Gwaltney. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 63 Macedonia Church Rd., Taylorsville, NC 28681. Alexander Funeral Service, Inc., of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.

Dr. Clarence Z. Deal, age 69, of Hickory, died unexpectedly Monday, June 2, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Catawba County July 27, 1933, the son of the late Alfred Deal and Estelle Rector Deal. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, where he served as Chairman of Congregation, Chairman of School Board, Chairman of Elders, Chairman of Long Range Planning, and as a Sunday School teacher. A retired optometrist, he was owner/operator of Family Vision Centers in both Hickory and Taylorsville. Dr. Deal received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., in 1960. He also attended Lenoir-Rhyne College and Appalachian State. In 1970, he was appointed by Gov. Scott to serve on the Commission for the Blind. He also served as Chairman of the Insurance Committee of the N.C. Optometric Society, Trustee Director of the Optometric Education Department for the State Society, Vice-President of the Department of Optometric Organization for the State Society, and was past president, secretary, and treasurer of the Catawba Valley Optometric Society. Dr. Deal was a past member of the Hickory Jaycees and was a past member and president of the St. Stephens Kiwanis Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1952 to 1956. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Shook Deal of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Sherrill and husband Kevin of Hickory; one son, Ashley Deal and wife Vickie of Hickory; four grandchildren, Kristin Deal, Justin Deal, Brendan Sherrill, and Mallory Sherrill, all of Hickory; two step-grandsons, Wesley Wilson and Jimmy Wilson, both of Hickory; one sister, Mazel Bolick of Phoeniz, Ariz.; and one brother, Kenneth Deal of Carolina Beach, N.C. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 4, 2003, 6:30-8:00 p.m., at Hickory Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, with Pastor David Guelzow and Pastor Paul FitzPatrick officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers include Montie Lail, Bobby R. Miller, Claude Berry, Steve Cain, Bobby D. Hollar, and Dwight Hollar. Honorary pallbearers include the members of St. Stephens LLL and of Dr. Deal’s Sunday School class. Memorials may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, Music Fund, 2304 Springs Rd., NE, Hickory, NC 28601 or the the charity of the donor’s choice. Grayden E. Hendren, age 86, of Taylorsville, passed away Saturday morning, November 29, 2003, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. He was born in Alexander County February 22, 1917, the son of the late Roy Glenn Hendren and Bertha Mae Childers Hendren. Mr. Hendren was retired from A.D. Lindsey Construction Company as a carpenter. During his retirement years, he operated a woodworking shop in Taylorsville. He attended East Taylorsville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arcola Wilson Hendren; one daughter, Linda Hendren; and one brother, Ralph Hendren. Survivors include two sons, Clyde Hendren and wife Marlene of Taylorsville and Jerry Hendren and wife Annette of Troutman; five sisters, Dorothy Walker, Glenna Hendren, Betty Childers Wilcox, Mabel Dagenhart, and Ruby Elder, all of Taylorsville; three grandchildren, Edward Dean Hendren and wife Tracie of Union Grove, Charity Troutman and husband Buddy of Statesville, and Bradley Hendren and wife Dawn of Newton; three great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Bud Matheson. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 1, 2003, at the Alexander Funeral Service Chapel in Taylorsville with Rev. Gary Jennings and Rev. Craig Hamlin officiating. Burial followed in the Taylorsville City Cemetery. Pallbearers included Bradley Hendren, Edward Hendren, Larry Elder, Gerald Elder, Bill Bartle, and Woody Childers. Honorary pallbearers included Bud Matheson and Fred Matheson. Memorials may be made to Hospice & Home Care of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, NC, 28681 or to East Taylorsville Baptist Church, P.O. Box 906, Taylorsville, NC, 28681. Z.V. Robinette, age 77, of DeJarnette Lane, Stony Point, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville following a short period of declining health. Mr. Robinette was born January 10, 1926, and was retired from Shuford Mills of Stony Point. Mr. Robinette was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and was a longtime member of Stony Point Baptist Church for most of his life. He also enjoyed meeting every morning with his friends at the Stony Point Coffee Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a very hard-working man. Mr. Robinette loved the outdoors and working in his garden. He always enjoyed sharing the bounties of his garden with his friends and neighbors. He was a simple man who was well loved by everyone. His parents, Walter and Mae Rector Robinette, and two brothers, Harlan “Pete” Robinette and Carlee Robinette, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Thelma Shatley Robinette, with whom he would have celebrated sixty years of marriage in January 2004; two daughters, Carol Cockrell of Statesville and Diane Dellinger and husband Jerry of Stony Point; one brother, Bobby Robinette and wife Doris of Stony Point; one sister, Marie Crisp and husband Howard of Taylorsville; four grandchildren, Deedra Downs, Chad Cockrell, Amber Shea Gandy, and Heather “Dru” Dellinger; five great-grandchildren, Cammie and Ali Shea Gandy, Parker and Zoe Downs, and Colby Cockrell; and many other special family members and friends. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 29, 2003, at Stony Point Baptist Church with Rev. J.T. Cline and Rev. Bill Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers included Tommy Cockrell, Dale Fox, Johnny Robinette, Bill Stamey, Bill Higgenbotham, and Clyde Beach. Honorary pallbearers included members of the Stony Point Coffee Club.
Memorials may be made to the organization of the donor’s choice or to Stony Point Baptist Church. Chapman Funeral Home of Stony Point was in charge of arrangements.

Grady Arthur Fox, age 67, of Lee Road, Stony Point, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Alexander County December 2, 1935, the son of the late Arthur Lee Fox and Mary Belle Chapman Fox. He was retired from Carolina Mills and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Fox. Survivors include his wife, Judy Fox of the home; three sons, Gary Fox of Huntersville, Craig Fox of Taylorsville, and Randy Fox of San Francisco, Calif.; one brother, Ned Fox of Statesville; two sisters, Rena Faye Wilson of Stony Point and Merle Hanna of Blairsville, Penn.; four granddaughters and one grandson; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, December 4, 2003, at 3:00 p.m. at the Chapman Funeral Home Chapel in Stony Point with Rev. Mark Clontz officiating. The family will assemble at the residence.

Jaunita Murphy Duncan, age 81, of Brian Center, Statesville, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. She was born in Yancey County July 31, 1922, the daughter of the late Lonnie Murphy and Emaline Wilson Murphy. Mrs. Duncan was a housewife and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Claydean Murphy, Roscoe Murphy, Ray Murphy, Jack Murphy, and Leon Murphy; one sister, Connie Pritchard; and one son, Bobby Duncan. Survivors include one son, Jim Moody of Statesville; one daughter, Barbara Padgett of Statesville; one sister, Faye Wilson of Marion; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 29, 2003, at the Iredell Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Statesville with Rev. J.C. Parks officiating. Samuel Edward Coles, age 87, of Lenoir, died Friday, November 28, 2003, at Kindred Hospital in Greensboro.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Alexander Funeral Service, Inc., of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.

George Connolly, age 78, of Hickory Tree Lane, Hiddenite, died unexpectedly Tuesday, December 2, 2003. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville.

Earlie Feimster Hager, age 87, of Wilkesboro and formerly of Iredell County, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was born in Iredell County November 7, 1916, the son of the late Clinton Hager and Maggie Dishman Hager. He was a member of South Yadkin Baptist Church. Mr. Hager had beenself-employed in carpentry and window replacement. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Marlow Hager; one son, Earlie Clint Hager, Jr.; three brothers, Connie Hager, Dawn Hager, and Jonah Hager; and two sisters, Rachel Murray and Margaret Faye Emory. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Passmore of Wilkesboro and Sylvia Jines of Hiddenite; two sisters, Mattie Lee Beckham of Statesville and Nettie Mae Watson of Charlotte; eight grandchildren; and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Walnut Grove Baptist Church with Dr. Paul Brunner and Rev. Steve Parks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Bonnie Jackson “Jack” Alexander, age 75, of Greensboro, died Friday, May 28, 2004, at Greensboro Retirement Center. He was born in Alexander County June 29, 1928, the son of the late Earl H. Alexander and Ada West Alexander Mock. He was of the Methodist faith and was a retired furniture worker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Hubert Alexander, Joe Alexander, and Paul Alexander, and one sister, Cleo Alexander. Survivors include four brothers, Earl Alexander of Lancaster, S.C., Omer Alexander of Stony Point, Luke Alexander of Naperville, Ill., and Palmer Alexander of Surfside Beach, S.C., and two sisters, Hazel Seitz of Claremont and Rose Maron of Greensboro. A graveside service was held Sunday, May 30, 2004, at the Stony Point Cemetery with Rev. Tom Campbell officiating. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Randy Dean Sharpe, age 39, of Paul Payne Store Rd., Stony Point, died Monday, May 31, 2004, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory following a brief illness. He was born in Iredell County May 28, 1965, the son of Charles “Tootie” Sharpe of Taylorsville and Geraldine Moose Holland of Statesville. He was a furniture worker and attended Antioch Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Anna Robinette Sharpe; a son, James Dean (J.D.) Sharpe of the home; his mother and step-father, Geraldine Moose Holland and Clay Holland of Statesville; his father and step-mother, Tootie Sharpe and Vernell Sharpe of Taylorsville; four sisters, Pat Burns of Hiddenite, Gail Wike and Cathy Sharpe, both of Taylorsville, and Sonya Black of Statesville; one brother, Dale Sharpe of Hiddenite; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Shirley and Darwin Bell of Taylorsville; a special aunt, Maxine West of Statesville; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, June 2, 2004, 6:30-8:30 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville. At other times, the family will assemble at 58 3rd Ave., Taylorsville.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 3, 2004, at 4:00 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with Dr. David Treadway and Rev. Mike Runion officiating. Burial will follow in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Memorials may be made to Gideons International, P.O. Box 517, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Adams Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.

Luther Larry Foshee, age 67, of Clermont, Fla., died Sunday, May 16, 2004. A former resident of Alexander County, he and his family resided in Windermere, Fla., for many years. He was owner of Foshee Construction Company in Clermont, Fla. Survivors include his wife of thirty-four years, Dale Foshee; one son, Kevin Foshee and wife Cindi of Clermont, Fla; one daughter, Tiffany Foshee of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Edgar Foshee of Narcoossee, Fla., and James Foshee of Orlando, Fla.; one sister, Gladys Brooks of Sanford; and one granddaughter. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, May 19, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Windermere.
Woodlawn Memorial Park & Funeral Home of Gotha, Fla., was in charge of arrangements.

Oscar Enoch Johnson, age 79, of Banner Elk, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was the son of the late Patton Johnson and Nellie Foster Johnson. Mr. Johnson was employed for many years as a Supervisor in the Physical Plant at Appalachian State Univer-sity. He retired from Central Florida Community College, where he was a carpenter. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Juriga Johnson, in 1988. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Johnson of Boone, Gale Smith and husband Cris of Banner Elk, and Kim Deputy and husband Jerry of Keystone Heights, Fla.; one son, Stan Johnson and wife Pam of Taylorsville; one brother, Harry Johnson and wife Mary Jane of Sawmills; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 29, 2004, in the Grandfather Chapel of Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home in Newland with Rev. Tony Owen officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in Good Shepard Memorial Gardens in Ocala, Fla. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Avery County, Mitchell St., Newland, NC 28657.
