Mary Alice Fox Ingram, age 78, of Taylorsville, died Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. She was born in Alexander County May 21, 1925, the daughter of the late John Dallas Fox and Clara Catherine Bowman Fox. She had been employed as a supervisor in the furniture industry at Lewittes and Broyhill Furniture Industries and had also worked in a cotton mill and at Schneider Mills. Mrs. Ingram was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Lee Ingram; one brother, Earl Junior Fox; and one sister, Mildred Warren. Survivors include two daughters, Wanda Tevepaugh and husband David and Linda Gwaltney and husband David, all of Taylorsville; two grandsons, Charles Tevepaugh of Conover and Jason Gwaltney of Taylorsville; two granddaughters, Dawn Tevepaugh of Conover and Stacy Gwaltney of Taylorsville; three brothers, John Richard “Buck” Fox, Frank Fox, and Jimmy Fox, all of Statesville; one sister, Evelena Lowe of Taylorsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 3, 2003, at 4:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Hwy. 16, South, Taylorsville, with Rev. Dan Spears officiating. Dr. Clarence Z. Deal, age 69, of Hickory, died unexpectedly Monday, June 2, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Catawba County July 27, 1933, the son of the late Alfred Deal and Estelle Rector Deal. He was a lifelong member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod, where he served as Chairman of Congregation, Chairman of School Board, Chairman of Elders, Chairman of Long Range Planning, and as a Sunday School teacher. A retired optometrist, he was owner/operator of Family Vision Centers in both Hickory and Taylorsville. Dr. Deal received his Doctorate of Optometry from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn., in 1960. He also attended Lenoir-Rhyne College and Appalachian State. In 1970, he was appointed by Gov. Scott to serve on the Commission for the Blind. He also served as Chairman of the Insurance Committee of the N.C. Optometric Society, Trustee Director of the Optometric Education Department for the State Society, Vice-President of the Department of Optometric Organization for the State Society, and was past president, secretary, and treasurer of the Catawba Valley Optometric Society. Dr. Deal was a past member of the Hickory Jaycees and was a past member and president of the St. Stephens Kiwanis Club. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served from 1952 to 1956. Survivors include his wife, Arlene Shook Deal of the home; one daughter, Jennifer Sherrill and husband Kevin of Hickory; one son, Ashley Deal and wife Vickie of Hickory; four grandchildren, Kristin Deal, Justin Deal, Brendan Sherrill, and Mallory Sherrill, all of Hickory; two step-grandsons, Wesley Wilson and Jimmy Wilson, both of Hickory; one sister, Mazel Bolick of Phoeniz, Ariz.; and one brother, Kenneth Deal of Carolina Beach, N.C. Grayden E. Hendren, age 86, of Taylorsville, passed away Saturday morning, November 29, 2003, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. He was born in Alexander County February 22, 1917, the son of the late Roy Glenn Hendren and Bertha Mae Childers Hendren. Mr. Hendren was retired from A.D. Lindsey Construction Company as a carpenter. During his retirement years, he operated a woodworking shop in Taylorsville. He attended East Taylorsville Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arcola Wilson Hendren; one daughter, Linda Hendren; and one brother, Ralph Hendren. Z.V. Robinette, age 77, of DeJarnette Lane, Stony Point, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, November 26, 2003, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville following a short period of declining health. Mr. Robinette was born January 10, 1926, and was retired from Shuford Mills of Stony Point. Mr. Robinette was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army and was a longtime member of Stony Point Baptist Church for most of his life. He also enjoyed meeting every morning with his friends at the Stony Point Coffee Club. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a very hard-working man. Mr. Robinette loved the outdoors and working in his garden. He always enjoyed sharing the bounties of his garden with his friends and neighbors. He was a simple man who was well loved by everyone. His parents, Walter and Mae Rector Robinette, and two brothers, Harlan “Pete” Robinette and Carlee Robinette, preceded him in death. He leaves behind his devoted wife, Thelma Shatley Robinette, with whom he would have celebrated sixty years of marriage in January 2004; two daughters, Carol Cockrell of Statesville and Diane Dellinger and husband Jerry of Stony Point; one brother, Bobby Robinette and wife Doris of Stony Point; one sister, Marie Crisp and husband Howard of Taylorsville; four grandchildren, Deedra Downs, Chad Cockrell, Amber Shea Gandy, and Heather “Dru” Dellinger; five great-grandchildren, Cammie and Ali Shea Gandy, Parker and Zoe Downs, and Colby Cockrell; and many other special family members and friends. Grady Arthur Fox, age 67, of Lee Road, Stony Point, died Saturday, November 29, 2003, at his residence. He was born in Alexander County December 2, 1935, the son of the late Arthur Lee Fox and Mary Belle Chapman Fox. He was retired from Carolina Mills and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Fox. Earlie Feimster Hager, age 87, of Wilkesboro and formerly of Iredell County, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Wilkes Regional Medical Center. He was born in Iredell County November 7, 1916, the son of the late Clinton Hager and Maggie Dishman Hager. He was a member of South Yadkin Baptist Church. Mr. Hager had beenself-employed in carpentry and window replacement. Oscar Enoch Johnson, age 79, of Banner Elk, died Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was the son of the late Patton Johnson and Nellie Foster Johnson. Mr. Johnson was employed for many years as a Supervisor in the Physical Plant at Appalachian State Univer-sity. He retired from Central Florida Community College, where he was a carpenter. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Juriga Johnson, in 1988. Survivors include three daughters, Judy Johnson of Boone, Gale Smith and husband Cris of Banner Elk, and Kim Deputy and husband Jerry of Keystone Heights, Fla.; one son, Stan Johnson and wife Pam of Taylorsville; one brother, Harry Johnson and wife Mary Jane of Sawmills; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
