Pauline Price Deal, age 89, of Kannapolis, died Tuesday, May 25, 2004, at Brunswick Community Hospital in Supply, N.C. She was born in Iredell County September 17, 1914, the daughter of the late Charlie Jefferson Price and Neva Payne Price. She was retired from the sewing room of Cannon Mills with over forty-five years of employment. She was also an avid race fan for over forty years and worked for NASCAR as a timer/scorer. Mrs. Deal was a charter member of the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Paul Deal in September 1979, and a daughter, Jean McWhorter. Survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Miller of Kannapolis and Betty Rance of Salem, Ohio; three sisters, Martha Fox, Louise Herman, and Elizabeth Shoemaker, all of Taylorsville; four brothers, Jim Price of Newton, Hayden Price of Banner Elk, and Sonny Price and Bob Price, both of Taylorsville; five grandchildren; and a number of great-grandchildren. A graveside service was held Friday, May 28, 2004, at Carolina Memorial Park in Kannapolis.

Espie Mecimore Childers, age 85, of Mt. Wesley Church Rd., Hiddenite, died Sunday, May 30, 2004, at Frye Regional Medical Center following a brief illness. She was born in Alexander County January 11, 1919, the daughter of the late Edward Mecimore and Lilly Hammer Mecimore. She was a homemaker and a member of Concord Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Quez Childers, and three brothers, Spencer Mecimore, Fred Mecimore, and Clarence Mecimore. Survivors include one son, Ricky Wayne Childers and wife Karen of Hiddenite; two sisters, Lilia Pharr of Hickory and Elvia Mecimore of Hiddenite; two grandchildren, Nakisha Childers of Hickory and Naranda Childers of Hiddenite; and three step-grandchildren, Shanna, Megan, and Jesse Harrington, all of Hiddenite. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, June 1, 2004, at Concord Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Dyson and Rev. David Crouse officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

J.D. Campfield, age 69, of Middle Rd., Stony Point, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 27, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. He was born in Alexander County June 18, 1934, the son of the late Della Campfield Flowers. He was a welder at Walker Foundry in Taylorsville and also a part-time employee at Poole’s Hi-Lite in Taylorsville. He was a member of Pleasant Home FBH Church. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his step-father, Eubert Flowers, and a sister, Betty Mary Campfield.
Survivors include two sisters, Bessie Flowers of Taylorsville and Mary Gore and husband Tommy of Gastonia; three nephews; and one niece. Pansy Artie Webster, age 90, of Old Wilkesboro Rd., Taylorsville, died Monday, January 31, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory following a brief illness. She was born in Wilkes County August 27, 1914, the daughter of the late John Arthur Webster and Martha Russell Webster. She was a retired textile worker and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Taylorsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Jenny Hamby, Maudie Elder, and Ruby Brown; three brothers, Ernest Webster, Eddie Webster, and Dewey Webster; and a special niece, Edith Mitchell. Survivors include two daughters, Rachel Hager and Judy Southers, both of Taylorsville; four grandchildren, Kim Hammer, Marshand Hager, Amanda Hager, and Pam Southers; four great-grandchildren, Chris Hammer, Jennifer Anderson, Rebecca Shaun, and Isaiah Howell; two great-great-grandchildren, Madison Hammer and Abby Hammer; and a number of nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, February 2, 2005, 7:00-8:30 p.m., at Adams Funeral Home in Taylorsville. Mildred True Davis White, age 84, of Lutheran Home West in Hickory, and formerly of Church Rd., Taylorsville, died Friday, January 28, 2005. She was born February 8, 1920, the daughter of the late Lloyd Davis and Frankie Williams Davis. She was a member of Millersville Baptist Church and was a retired textile and furniture worker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Heindl White; one son, Wade “Tom” White; a granddaughter, April White Jonas; a great-granddaughter, Lauren Lowman; and one brother, Glenn O. Davis. Survivors include four sons, Lewis White and wife Sue of Bethlehem, Mark White and wife Barbara of Georgia, Fred White and wife Reta of Taylorsville, and Michael White and wife Judy of Hickory; three daughters, Jo Alyce Austin of Florida, Mildred Treadway and husband Nickey of Taylorsville, and Patricia Tucker of South Carolina; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Jean Howell of Taylorsville; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Davis; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews; and special friends and neighbors of Church Road.

Hilda Icenhour Eckard, age 77, of N.C. Hwy. 16 South, Taylorsville, died Saturday, January 29, 2005, at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory. She had been in declining health for one year and seriously ill for one week. She was born in Alexander County July 1, 1927, the daughter of the late Marshall Monroe Icenhour and Mary Lippard Icenhour. She was retired from Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville, where she was a caregiver. A member of Friendship Lutheran Church, she enjoyed singing with the Senior Adult Sunday School Class. Survivors include her husband, Marvelee Eckard of the home; two daughters, Shelby James and husband Doug of Taylorsville and Kay Moose and husband Ronnie of Stony Point; one son, Rodger Eckard and wife Inez of Clemmons; a sister, Myrtle Johnson of Advance; seven grandchildren, Kyra M. Bolick and husband Steve, Kendra Moose and friend Adam Surratt, Alicia Sigmon and husband Mark, Michael Bowman and fiance` Jacqueline Stevenson, Allison M. Maggie Robinette Pennell, age 91, of Rocky Face Rd., Taylorsville, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Alexander County February 14, 1913, the daughter of the late Robbie and Lizzie Robinette. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and will be missed by all. She was a member of East Taylorsville Baptist Church and was retired from Shuford Mills and Harris-Teeter. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Perry Pennell; a loving daughter, Hazel Hefner; a sister, Bonnie Robinette; two brothers Clerge Robinette and Jonah Robinette; two sons-in-law, Harold Elder and Larry Carrigan; and a daughter-in-law, Carrie Pennell. Chauncey Atworth Linney, age 83, of Washington, D.C., and formerly of Hiddenite, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born in Hiddenite, October 17, 1921, the son of the late Reuben Dewey Linney and Addie Thompson Linney. He was a member of the first graduating class in 1938 of Happy Plains High School in Taylorsville. Mr. Linney served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and received the American Theater Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. In 1949, he received a certificate in machinery from North Carolina A&T College (now North Carolina A&T State University) in Greensboro. In 1951, he received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from North Carolina A&T College. For a number of years, Mr. Linney worked as department supervisor with the main U.S. Post Office in Washington, D.C., until his retirement. He was a former member of Smith Grove Baptist Church in Hiddenite and later was a member of Vermont Avenue Baptist Church in Washington, D.C. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Morris Linney. Survivors include a sister, Vender Redfern of Charlotte; a brother, Joe Linney of Killeen, Texas; two nephews, Lazonte Moore and Bobby Moore, both of Charlotte; and a number of other relatives. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at Smith Grove Baptist Church in Hiddenite with Rev. Ardeal Roseboro officiating. William Ronald Younts, Sr., age 68, of Taylorsville, died Wednesday, January 26, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was born in Guilford County September 20, 1936, the son of the late George Rhoney Younts and Kate Clyde Smith Younts. He worked for the Hickory City Schools in the maintenance department and at Frye Regional Medical Center in maintenance. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Roy Lee Younts, and one sister, Ruth Younts Quate.
Survivors include his wife of forty-two years, Myra Rash Younts of the home; one son, Ron Younts, Jr., and wife Valerie of Taylorsville; two grandchildren, AbaGayle Younts and Byron Younts of Taylorsville; one brother, George Rhoney Younts, Jr., of Clifton, Va; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Friday, January 28, 2005, at Liledoun Baptist Church with Rev. James Bumgarner and Rev. Craig Hamlin officiating.
