P.W. Ferguson, Sr., age 60, of Lenoir, died unexpectedly Saturday, July 31, 2004, at Caldwell Memorial Hospital in Lenoir. He was born in Caldwell County May 15, 1944, the son of the late Augustine Ferguson. He was employed in the lumber yard at Kincaid Furniture and was a member of Mt. Bethel A.M.E. Church. Mr. Ferguson served in the U.S. Army for a number of years. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Ferguson. Survivors include his wife, Grace Hood Ferguson of the home; his step-father, Ernest M. Tilley, Sr., of the home; one son, P.W. Ferguson, Jr., of Columbia, S.C.; one step-son, Stanley Myers Ferguson of Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Angelina F. Govan of Charlotte; two step-daughters, Rachel Tilley of Lenoir and Willidean Ferguson of Columbia, S.C.; six brothers, Mote Ferguson, Ernest M. Tilley, Jr., James Tilley, Hosia Tilley, and Leon Faulkner, all of Lenoir, and William T. Ferguson of Fayetteville; two sisters, Geraldine Davis and Joycetine Michaux, both of Lenoir; and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, August 5, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Mary Elizabeth Patterson Stevenson, age 87, of County Line Rd., Stony Point, died Sunday, August 1, 2004, at Myrtle Beach, SC, as a result of a heart attack. She was born in Iredell County July 24, 1917, the daughter of the late John N. Patterson and Martha (Mattie) Alexander Patterson. She was retired from the sewing department at Bassett Furniture Company in Hiddenite. She was a member of New Sterling A.R.P. Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robley D. Stevenson; three brothers, Lewis Patterson, Howard Patterson, and Leonard Patterson; and four sisters, Evelyn Patterson, Lois Hollifield, Emma Lou Stout, and Jean Fincannon. Irene Dula Hegwood, age 83, of Statesville, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville following a brief illness. She was born in Iredell County October 4, 1920, the daughter of the late William Calvin Dula and Pearl Abernathy Dula. She was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Statesville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Hegwood, and two brothers, Mack Dula and Edward Dula. Survivors include two sisters, Ruby D. Lewis of Stony Point and Ruth D. Isaacs of Statesville; a goddaughter, Sharon Sargent of Statesville; two nieces; and two nephews.

Ernest Eugene Sharpe, Sr., age 72, of Statesville, died Friday, July 30, 2004, at his residence following an extended illness. He was born in Iredell County November 1, 1931, the son of the late Hugh Sharpe and Chloie Byers Sharpe. He was a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and a member of V.F.W. Post 2031 in Statesville. Mr. Sharpe retired as supervisor in the cloth room at Hexcel (formerly Uniglass) after forty years of service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Johnny Sharpe. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Cloer Sharpe of the home; one son, Ernest Eugene Sharpe, Jr., and wife Randa of Statesville; one daughter, Judith “Ann” Gentle and husband Doug of Stony Point; three sisters, Doris Ellenburg, Peggy “Peg” Hollar, and Joyce Rhyne, all of Statesville; two grandchildren, Parianne McGlamery and Josh Sharpe; and three great-grandchildren. He was born in Alexander County October 12, 1943, the son of the late Chester Field Watts and Mildred Stokes Watts. He was employed as manager at Broyhill Industries, Plant 3, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Mr. Watts was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Shawn James Watts. She was a former employee of Escod Industries and was a member of Smith Grove Baptist Church. Kenneth Charles Joines, age 53, a resident of Piedmont Village Rest Home in Statesville and formerly of Taylorsville, died Wednes-day, September 29, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. He was born in Alexander County June 25, 1951, the son of Joyce Joines Parks of Statesville. He was a furniture worker and a carpenter. Mr. Joines was a member of Rocky Face Baptist Church. Clyde O. Murdock, age 79, of Spokane Valley, Washington, died Friday, September 17, 2004, in Spokane. He was born in Alexander County March 17, 1925, the son of the late John Allison Murdock and Martha Warren Murdock. A veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he saw action in both Germany and Africa. Mr. Murdock was employed with the Union Pacific Railroad for thirty years. He was actively involved with the Old Time Fiddlers Association and was also a woodworking designer and a builder of wooden clocks. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael G. Murdock, who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968; two brothers; and a sister. Survivors include two sons, Steve Murdock and wife Kathleen of Spokane, Washington, and Scott Murdock and wife Janette of Sterling, Arkansas; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Zane Murdock of Taylorsville and Troy Murdock of Kannapolis; two sisters, Mildred Murdock and Dean Pennell, both of Hiddenite; and numerous cousins and friends. Robert Dennis Campbell, age 64, of Amber Marie Lane, Taylorsville, died Tuesday, October 5, 2004, at his residence. He was born in Philadelphia, Penn., September 24, 1940, the son of the late John Campbell and Mary Gallagher Campbell. He was a technical sergeant and served as a pneudraulic technician while in the Air National Guard from which he retired. Most recently, he had been employed with Movie Max in Taylorsville. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a member of D.A.V. Chapter 84 of Taylorsville. Mr. Campbell was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Taylorsville. Survivors include his wife, Carol Bleistin Campbell of the home; a daughter, Theresa Simons of Taylorsville; a son, Dan Campbell of New Egypt, New Jersey; two sisters, Jean Burns of Apex and Ruth McCluskey of Philadelphia, Penn.; one brother, Jack Campbell of Oakford, Penn.; two grandchildren; six nieces; and five nephews.
