James Edward “Bud” Chapman, age 76, of Statesville, died Saturday, December 4, 2004, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville. He was born in Alexander County February 21, 1928, the son of the late Maxie C. Chapman and Carrie Mae Sharpe Chapman. He was an auto mechanic and a member of Crestview Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Jimmy Chapman; two brothers, Jack Chapman and Steve Chapman; and one sister, Margaret Josey. Survivors include his wife, Emma Peele Chapman of the home; two daughters, Pat Wyatt and Judy Dixon, both of Statesville; one brother, Samuel Chapman of Statesville; two sisters, Alice Chapman of Charleston, S.C., and Alma Cascaden of Statesville; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 6, 2004, at Crestview Baptist Church with Rev. Roy Pierce, Rev. Lloyd Jarvis, and Rev. Robert Barnette officiating. Audrey G. Popp Petote, age 76, of Brockport, New York, died Wednesday, December 22, 2004. She was born May 5, 1928, in Rochester, N.Y., the daughter of the late William Popp and Dorothy Miller Popp. Survivors include three children, Michael Petote and wife Elizabeth of Hiddenite, Renee Bertoni and husband Patrick of Holley, N.Y., and Crystal Ford and Wayne Wyand of Kandall, N.Y.; one brother, Robert Popp and wife Madeline; four grandchildren, Nastasha Petote and Jacob, Jason, and Brandy Wyand; and eighteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, December 27, 2004, at the Thomas E. Burger Funeral Home in Hilton, N.Y., with Rev. Dickson Beam officiating. Interment followed in the Parma Union Cemetery in Parma, N.Y.
Carl McCoy Barger, age 83, of Taylorsville, died Monday, February 7, 2005, at Brian Center in Viewmont. He was born in Catawba County on January 17, 1922, the son the late Oliver Cletus and Lottie Hefner Barger. He was a World War II veteran with the U.S. Navy and was retired from Shuford Mills, Inc. He was a member of Unity Lutheran Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Evelyn McAlpin Barger; a son, Danny Ray Barger; and a brother, Floyd Barger. He is survived by two sons, Jerry Lee Barger and wife Connie of Bethlehem and Bobby Glen Barger of Hickory; three grandsons, six great-grandchildren; a brother, John Allen Barger; three sisters, Margie Link, Ruby Rabon and Ruth Whitner. Horace Henderson Russell, age 86, of Taylorsville, died Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville. He was born in Alexander County, August 7, 1918, the son of the late Lonas Russell and Lillie Davis Russell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Artie Lue Lowe Russell; four brothers, Dolphus, Sewell, Lewis and Perry Russell; two sisters, Jennie Russell and Dessie Lowe; and one son, Roger C. Russell. Mr. Russell was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He worked for Lowe's Orchard and had retired from Broyhill Furniture. He was in the U.S. Army, having served during WWII. Survivors include two daughters, Lorene Kerley and Darlene Davidson, both of Taylorsville; three sons, Ronald Russell and Harold Russell, both of Taylorsville; and Jerald Russell of Statesville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Velma B. Meadows, age 71, of Taylorsville, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, in Iredell Memorial Hospital. Born in Alexander County, April 5, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Garland Leroy and Vada Lucy Eva Icenhour Smith. She was a homemaker and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Meadows was an active member of Wayside Baptist Church where she was known affectionately as "Blue Bird". In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Ted Warren Meadows; and two sisters, Marclene Icenhour and Juanita Wilds.
Survivors include three sons, Ted Allen Meadows, and Terry Meadows and wife Sherry, all of Taylorsville, and Rex Meadows and wife Donna of Hickory; one daughter, Robin Earp and husband Chris of Hiddenite; one brother, Arthur Smith and wife Shirley of Taylorsville; three sisters, Linda Sue Shook and husband Tom of Hickory, Lillie George of Taylorsville, and Lois Mitchell and husband Billy of Taylorsville; nine grandchildren, Emily Meadows, Amanda Meadows, Tia Meadows Andras, Tasha Meadows, Christy Earp Arrowood, Justin Earp, Erin Meadows, Amber Meadows, and Lindsey Meadows; one great- granddaughter, Taylor Andras; a very special friend, Lewis Burgess; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Timothy Dale Windsor, age 38, of Friendship Church Road, Taylorsville, died unexpectedly Tuesday, February 1, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center. He was born March 12, 1966, in Alexander County, the son of Jerry Edwin Windsor and Nina Mae Bostian Windsor, both of Taylorsville. He was a member of Friendship Lutheran Church and enjoyed collecting old antiques. He was owner and operator of Windsor Frame. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ira Lee Windsor and Fannie Campbell Windsor and his maternal grandparents, Teral Thomas Bostian and Exie Bowman Bostian. Survivors, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Amy Teague Windsor of the home; a daughter, Katelyn Brooke Windsor of the home; a son, Ethan Thomas Windsor of the home; and a brother, Master Sgt. Michael Todd Windsor of Taylorsville, stationed in London. Chalmer Oren Sharpe, age 92, of Joseph Effie Drive, Hiddenite, died Friday, February 4, 2005, at Brian Center Health Care in Statesville, following an extended illness. He was born in Alexander County November 7, 1912, the son of the late Thomas Sharpe and Janie Head Sharpe. He was a member of South River United Methodist Church. Mr. Sharpe was a retired farmer and an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ozell Sharpe; one son, Gerald C. Sharpe; three brothers, Olie Sharpe, Lawerence Sharpe, and Bob Sharpe; and three sisters, Jettie Adams, Lettie Boney, and Zelma Hartness. Survivors include one son, Lindsey Sharpe of Hunter-sville; two daughters, Colleen Caldwell of Mooresville, and Jo Ann Walker of Charlotte; one brother, Wayne Sharpe of Hiddenite; two sisters, Gladys Drum of Taylorsville and Treva Fox of Hiddenite; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Wanda Trivette Poole, age 53, of Wilkesboro Highway, Statesville, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2005, at Brian Center in Viewmont. She was born in Iredell County on June 28, 1951, the daughter of Beatrice Johnson Trivette of Hamptonville and the late Henry Plyler Trivette. She was a member of Friendly Chapel Baptist Church and was a housewife. In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by one brother, James R. Trivette and one sister Geneva M. Trivette. Frederick "Fred" William Sweet, age 44, of Hiddenite, died unexpectedly Wednesday, February 2, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center, Alexander Campus in Taylorsville. He was born in Alexander County, June 5, 1960, the son of Nancy Hovis Ashe and the late William Lloyd Sweet. He worked as a frame builder in the furniture industry, and was an avid Dale Earnhardt fan. Survivors include his wife, Linda C. Sweet of Hiddenite; one stepdaughter, Misty Ann Warren and husband Timothy of Hiddenite; his mother, Nancy Hovis Ashe of Lincolnton; one brother, Wade Timothy "Tim" Sweet of Hiddenite; two special nieces, Amber and Jessica Sweet, both of Hiddenite; one special nephew, Timothy Odell Crane; his maternal grandmother, Alice Mathis Hovis of Lincolnton; a special aunt, Margie Sisk of Lincolnton; special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Odell and Marla Crane of Hiddenite, Lloyd and Charlotte Crane of Hickory, and Nancy Barber of Hiddenite.

Whiskey Blue Reynolds, infant daughter of Marc Statler and Jenifer Lynn Jordan Reynolds, died Sunday, January 30, 2005, at Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC. She was born January 25, 2005. She was loved dearly by her mother and father, Jenifer and Marc Reynolds; her grandparents, Leslie Keefe, Larry Green, Mikell and Jim Reynolds; her aunts, Jessica Jordan, Yorke and Kirsten Reynolds; her uncles, James, Chase, and Kent Reynolds; her cousin, Kaden Reynolds; and her great- grandparents, June Keefe, Nancy and Fred Heller, and June Reynolds. Whiskey Blue is protected and watched over by her loving dogs, Princess and Lucy, and her horses Miss 27 and L.S. She was extraordinarily well cared for, and shown the meaning of the words, kindness and love, by the nurses of the Merium Hayes Cannon Facility and her exceptional pediatrician, Dr. Cherer of Northeast Medical Center.
She was laid to rest at the family farm on the hill under her granddaddy’s hickory trees so she may overlook her cows, her horses, and her family. Graveside services were held Sunday, February 6, 2005, at 740 Hewitt Road, Cleveland, NC. The Rev. Jennifer M. Ginn officiated. She was born in Burke County July 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Fred Lee Harrison and Mary Elizabeth Branch Harrison. She was a housewife and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Taylorsville. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy H. Reichard, and four brothers, Fred Harrison, Jr., Charles Harrison, Albert Harrison, and Jack Harrison.

Johnny Jefferson Stamey, age 65, of Old Farm Drive, Hickory, died Saturday, February 5, 2005, at Catawba Valley Medical Center. Born in Mitchell County, March 17, 1939, the son of the late Jesse L. Stamey and Ella Pittman Stamey, he worked as a machine operator in a furniture factory. He attended Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Dale Todd Stamey and one brother, J.L. Stamey. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Bennison Stamey of the home; one son, John Alan Stamey of Hickory; one daughter, Amy Hopper of Hickory; one brother, Wade Stamey of Fort Worth, Texas; four sisters, Cathy Rhyne of Stony Point, Eva Teague of Hickory, Kay Bowman of Bethlehem, and Ramona Ervin of Newton; and six grandchildren.
