Norine Johnson Walker, 91, of West Jefferson, formerly of Alexander County, died Monday, May 30, 2005, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Owen Walker of the home; a daughter, Norma Dean Walker, of the home; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Three Forks Baptist Church with Rev. D. W. Chapman, Rev. Josh Benge, and Rev. Ken Morris officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be given to Three Forks Baptist Church Building Fund, 4685 Three Forks Baptist Church Road, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Lloyd Claude Teague, age 75, of NC Hwy. 16 South, Taylorsville, died Saturday May 28, 2005, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. He was born in Alexander County, November 11, 1929, the son of the late Lawrence Hubert Teague and Laura Jane Little Teague. He was a retired furniture worker and a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church, where he had served as a Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer, and Chairman of the Church Council. Mr. Teague was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean Conflict and was a lifetime member of D.A.V. Chapter 84 in Taylorsville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Teague, and a sister, Evelyn Teague Johnson. Survivors include his wife, Mary Barnes Teague of the home; one daughter, Joni Teague Barrie and husband John of Oriental, N.C.; one son, Michael Teague of Taylorsville; two sisters, Mabel Pritchard of Stony Point and Mary Thomas of Fayetteville; a brother, J. Hal Teague of Taylorsville; two grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Wednesday June 1, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Johns Lutheran Church with Rev. Harvey Blume officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military rites provided by D.A.V. Chapter 84 of Taylorsville.
Memorials may be given to the Claude Teague Samaritan Fund, c/o St. Johns Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 82, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681.

Betty Louise Duncan Jackson, age 70, of Wilkesboro, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at Avante Nursing Home in Wilkesboro following an extended illness. She was born in Burlington, N. J., August 5, 1934, the daughter of the late Thomas H. P. Duncan and Edith Wilcox Duncan. She was a homemaker. She is survived by one sister, Janet Ruscitti of Burlington, N. J. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Chapman Funeral Home of Stony Point is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Faye Walker Friday, 73, of Dallas, NC, died May 29, 2005, at Carolina’s Medical Center in Charlotte. A native of Granite Falls, NC, she was the daughter of the late Burgin and Gladys Gay Jolly Walker. She was a devoted teacher to Gaston County school children for over 35 years and retired in 1989 after teaching at Carr Elementary School for a majority of those years. She was a member of the NCAE and a longtime member of Philadephia Lutheran Church in Dallas. Her joy in later years came from being a Nana to her three grandsons. Survivors include her husband of 51 years, Joe Friday, of the home; two daughters, Cindy Friday and Mary Jo Friday of the home; one son, Todd Friday and wife, Dana of Gastonia; three grandsons, Jeffrey Walker Friday, Daniel Oakes Friday, and Evan Rhyne Friday, all of Gastonia; one sister, Betty Chapman of South Daytona Beach, Fla.; a special niece, Kimberly Faye Chapman of Asheville, and other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 2, 2005, at Philadephia Lutheran Church in Dallas with Rev. Gary A. Weant officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday, June 1, 2005, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Dallas Funeral Home. Betty Louise Jolly Fox, age 73, of Fox Den Lane, Taylorsville, died unexpectedly Friday, May 27, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center. She was born in Alexander County September 2, 1931, the daughter of the late Arthur Jolly and Lucy Echerd Jolly. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd LeRoy Fox. Survivors include a special friend and companion, John Cline of Taylorsville; two sons, Terry Brent Fox and wife Lisa of Taylorsville and Eric Floyd Fox and wife Maritza of Bethlehem; four sisters, Juanita Billings, Doris Coats, and Ruby Collins, all of Taylorsville, and Sara Greer of Charlotte; a brother, Arthur Jolly of Spartanburg, S.C.; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Luke Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Orren, Rev. Eddie Jolly, and Rev. Ron Orovitz officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Rose Lee Howell, 68, a resident of Lutheran Home West, Hickory, formerly of Taylorsville, died Monday, May 30, 2005 at Lutheran Home West, Hickory. She was born December 15, 1936, in Alexander County, the daughter of the late James G. Howell and Emma M. Howell Howell. She was of the Baptist faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Lacie Mae Gill, Genivie Boston, and Mary Bea Howell; and two brothers, Lindsay Howell and Bud Howell. Survivors include a brother, Rev. Thomas L. Howell and wife, Margaret of Taylorsville; an aunt, Hessie Barnes of Taylorsville; two special nieces, Tina Hayes, who cared for her at the Lutheran Home and Emma H. Caraway of Thomasville; and a host of other relatives and nieces and nephews. A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at St. John’s Baptist Church Cemetery by Rev. Doris Propst Smith, age 78, of NC Hwy. 90 West, Taylorsville, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. She was born in Clementon, New Jersey, July 26, 1926, the daughter of the late Walter William Propst, Sr., and Anna Erny Propst. She was a retired administrative assistant with Duke Power in Charlotte. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Frazier Smith. Survivors include one son, Robert Honeycutt Smith and wife Gloria of Taylorsville, and one brother, Walter Williams Propst, Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada.

Edwin Adam Pennell, Sr., age 64, of Little Spring Rd., Taylorsville, died unexpectedly Saturday, June 4, 2005, at his residence. He was born in Caldwell County September 25, 1940, the son of the late Toy Ward Pennell and Velva Dula Pennell. He was a retired attorney. Survivors include a daughter, Anna Pennell Oerther and husband Fred of Randleman; two sons, Adam Pennell and wife Janet of High Point and Nathan Pennell and wife Emily of Boston, Mass.; two sisters, Carolyn Rowlett and husband Jerry of Newton and Rita Pich`e and husband Jim of Afganistan; a brother, Tommy Pennell and wife Alesia of Taylorsville; nieces and nephews, Heath, Ali, Sean, and Travis and wife Hope; and a great-nephew, Christopher. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at Dover Baptist Church in Taylorsville with Rev. Joel Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dover Baptist Church one hour prior to the funeral hour. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. John Howard Haithcox, age 70, of Statesville, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, at Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville following a lengthy illness. He was born in Alexander County July 2, 1934, the son of the late Scott Haithcox and Hessie Smith Haithcox. A veteran of the U. S. Army, he served during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Haithcox was a truck driver and was retired from International Paper following thirty years of service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Haithcox, and a sister, Mary Haithcox. Survivors include his wife, Nellie Bass Haithcox, whom he married June 30, 1967; a son, Stephen Wilson Grant and wife Mary Jo of Stony Point; two grandchildren, Dustin Grant and Heather Grant; four brothers, Lint Haithcox and wife Nickie, Bill Haithcox, and Bob Haithcox and wife Jean, all of Statesville, and James Haithcox of Stony Point; five sisters, Flora Lee Pennell and Estelle Smith, both of Hiddenite, Marge Neely and Polly Burdette and husband Kenneth, all of Statesville, and Gertie Bayardi and husband Lou of Tiltonsville, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Statesville with Rev. Denny Outen, Rev. Otis Johnson, Jr., and Rev. Tony Dyson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers included Kenny Burdette, Billy Haithcox, Joey Haithcox, Scott Bass, Derrick Bass, and Shane Wiley. Honorary pallbearers included Mr. Haithcox’s fellow drivers, Sidney Whitner, J. E. Honeycutt, Ray Sherrill, Clyde Marlowe, and Bobby Castor. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem United Methodist Church, 607 Bethlehem Rd., Statesville, NC 28677 or the church or charity of the donor’s choice. Carl “Ed” Isenhour, age 56, died Sunday, June 5, 2005. A native of Taylorsville, he had been a Williamsburg, Va., resident for the past twenty-eight years. He retired as a Cardiovascular Technologist with Mary Immaculate Hospital in Newport News Va., in 2001. He was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying. Mr. Isenhour was also an avid sailor and enjoyed scuba diving. A U.S. Air Force veteran, he served as a paramedic in the Vietnam War. He graduated from Old Dominion University with a B.S. in Biology and also graduated from Norfolk General Hospital, School of Cardiology, as a Certified Cardiovascular Technologist. Preceding him in rest is his father, Dwight L. Isenhour. Surviving members of his family include his wife of twenty-five years, Carol Martin Isenhour; a son, Skipper Martin Isenhour; mother, Rebecca Isenhour; brothers and sisters, Ike Isenhour, Bobby Isenhour, Edee Powell, and Laura Leverone; and also many other loving family members. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at 4 p.m. at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, Va. The family will receive friends following the service until 5:30 p.m. Interment will be private. Ophelia Ingold Zachary, age 72, of 4th Avenue North, Taylorsville, died Thursday June 2, 2005, at her residence following a lengthy illness. She was born January 29, 1933, in Statesville, N.C., a daughter of the late Winfred L. Ingold and Lula Maude Pierce Ingold. She was a school teacher in the Alexander County Schools and a homemaker. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Taylorsville, where she was involved in many activities including handbell choir and Sunday School teacher, among others. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, Winfred L. Ingold, Jr. Survivors include her husband, Samuel J. Zachary of the home; three sons, Benjamin I. Zachary of Taylorsville, Joseph L. Zachary of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Daniel W. Zachary of Chapel Hill, N.C.; a daughter, Ann Z. Poole of Jamestown, N.C.; and nine grandchildren. Funeral services, Saturday, June 4, 2005, included a private committal service at the Taylorsville City Cemetery followed by a public memorial service at First United Methodist Church in Taylorsville. Rev. Lory Beth Huffman officiated. The family requests that memorials be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. 157 Taylorsville, N.C. 28681, or to Hospice of Alexander County, 50 Lucy Echerd Lane, Taylorsville, N.C. 28681. Joseph Edwards Walters, age 44, of Berea Quincy Rd., Hiddenite, died unexpectedly Thursday, May 26, 2005, at his home.
He was born in Alexander County May 9, 1961, the son of Mary Mae Fox Walters of the home and the late Joe Walters. He was a stockbroker and was of the Baptist faith. He was a 1979 graduate of Alexander Central High School and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science at Appalachian State University. He was currently pursuing a Masters degree at Appalachian State University. In addition to his mother, he is survived by many friends. A graveside service was conducted Tuesday, June 7, 2005, at the Taylorsville City Cemetery with Rev. Buster Treadway officiating. A memorial service will be conducted Wednesday, June 8, 2005, at 5:00 p.m. at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Cook officiating. Adams Funeral Home of Taylorsville is in charge of arrangements.
