Gary Thomas Teague, age 50, of Blankenship Road, Taylorsville, went home to be with the Lord Monday, January 9, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center following an illness of three months. He was born in Catawba County December 3, 1955, the son of the late James Washington Teague and Margie Moretz Teague. He was a member of Oakwood Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon since 1982. He also served on the missionary board and was a Sunday School teacher, trustee, and choir member. Mr. Teague was a member of the Brushy Mountain Coon Club and was formerly employed with Lexington Home Brands in Hildebran. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Baker. Survivors include his wife of thirty-three years, Patsy W. Teague of the home; a daughter, Michelle Teague Jewell of Charlotte; a son, Brian Teague and wife Cindy of Taylorsville; three sisters, Joyce Williams, Brenda Powell, and Peggy Weaver, all of Taylorsville; a brother, Marshall Teague of Taylorsville; and four grandchildren, Tyler Billings, Katelyn Billings, Grace Teague, and Elijah Teague. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, January 11, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Oakwood Baptist Church with Rev. Steven Bumgarner and Chaplain Dennis Pinkney officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state thirty minutes prior to the funeral hour. Clay Edwards Teague, age 91, of Goble Road, Hiddenite, died Sunday, January 22, 2006, at Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. He was born in Alexander County July 11, 1914, the son of the late John O. Teague and Jessie Chatham Teague. He was a former employee of Chaircraft Furniture and Carson's Hardware in Taylorsville. Mr. Teague was a member of White Plains Baptist Church and was an avid gardener. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Hines Teague; two brothers, Hall F. Teague and J. Foy Teague; and two sisters, Ruth T. Hurt and Mabel I. Teague. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Teague and wife Suma of Stony Point, Kermit Teague and wife Reta of Taylorsville, and Carl Teague and wife Marilyn of Statesville; four daughters, Betty Clymer and husband DeForest of Granite Falls, Martha “Marty” Gaddy and husband Phillip of Statesville, Sharon Goforth and husband Jimmy of Hiddenite, and Libby Mecimore and husband Dwight of Taylorsville; fifteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lona Ella Daniels, age 95, of Lona Daniels Loop, Taylorsville, died Saturday, January 7, 2006, at her son’s residence following a two-month illness. She was born in Alexander County October 29, 1910, the daughter of the late Eli Tobias Daniels and Amanda Phillips Daniels. She was a retired poultry farmer and was a member of Salem Lutheran Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by six sisters, Laura Williams, Florence Johnson, Paralee Daniels, Emma Daniels, Elizabeth Barnette, and an infant sister Mary Daniels, and two brothers, John Daniels and an infant brother Willie Daniels. Survivors include a son, Atwell Daniels and wife Florence of Taylorsville; a sister, Nora Mitchell of Taylorsville; and a number of nieces, nephews, and special neighbors and friends. Jacqueline Norton Henkle, age 82, of Grandview Street, Granite Falls, died Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at Lenoir Health Care Center. She was born in Montgomery County, Alabama, November 24, 1923, the daughter of the late Gordon Everett Norton and Mrytice Smoot Norton. She was a homemaker and a member of Philadelphia Lutheran Church in Granite Falls. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel L. Henkle, Sr., and an infant daughter, Mary Jacqueline Henkle. Survivors include one son, Samuel L. Henkle, Jr., and wife Carol of Hudson; four daughters, Dena Henkle of Granite Falls, Pam Sipes and husband Gary of Hudson, Maria Secrist of the home, and Samuella Jane Henkle of the home; two grandchildren, Kyle Henkle and Rodney Abernathy; and a great-grandson, Dylan Abernathy.

Eliza Watts Moser, age 85, of Valley Nursing Center in Taylorsville and a former resident of 7th Street, SW, Taylorsville, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006, at Valley Nursing Center following an extended illness. She was born in Alexander County July 8, 1920, the daughter of the late William Thomas Watts and Bertha Alexander Watts. She was retired from the textile industry and was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, where she was a former member of the senior choir, past vice-president of missions, and chairperson of the flower committee and hospitality committee. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Moser, and all of her brothers and sisters, Vernon, David, Johnsie, Winford, Willie, and Samuel. Survivors include two sons, William Moser of Stony Point and Lewis Moser and wife Sheila of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Henrietta Howell and husband James and Linda Hill and husband Junior, all of Taylorsville; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.

Clarence Auston Lovin, age 74, of Edwards Street, Lincolnton, died Monday, January 9, 2006, at Lincoln Medical Center in Lincolnton. He was born in Clover, S.C., June 8, 1931, the son of the late Robert Lovin and Carrie Foster Lovin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanette Miller, and three brothers, Troy Lovin, John Lovin, and Roy Lovin. Survivors include two sons, Gary Lovin and wife Linda of Lincolnton and Ronnie Lovin of Taylorsville; a sister, Dorothy Burgess of Taylorsville; a brother, Loyd Lovin of Catawba; three grandsons, Ricky Lovin, Jerry Lovin, and Keith Duncan; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lovin and Keesha Green; and three great-grandchildren. Hayden Burke Lackey, age 79, of Payne’s Dairy Road, Taylorsville, died Friday, January 6, 2006, at Catawba Medical Center following an extended illness. He was born in Alexander County June 12, 1926, the son of the late George Lackey and Lois Head Lackey. He was retired from Alexander County and was of the Baptist faith. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Houston; two brothers, Donald Lackey and Arthur Lackey; and a granddaughter. Bennie H. Parsons, age 87, of Lenoir, passed away Monday, January 9, 2006, at Caldwell County Hospice. Mr. Parsons was born in Wilkes County February 8, 1918, the son of the late Rudy B. Parsons and Martha Griffin Parsons. He was retired from the maintenance department of American & Efird, Inc., and served in the Naval Air Force during World War II. In addition to his parents, Mr. Parsons was preceded in death by nine brothers, two sisters, and one granddaughter, Ashley Michelle Brackett. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Irene Walsh Parsons of the home; one son, Bruce D. Parsons and wife Barbara of Dover, Delaware; three daughters, Judith Parsons Underdown of Lenoir, Rosemary Parsons George and husband James of Taylorsville, and Lynda Parsons Brackett and husband Michael of Greenville, S.C.; three granddaughters, Victoria Underdown of Lenoir, Amy Retzlaff of Smyrna, Delaware, and Kelly George of Statesville; two grandsons, Mitchell George of Statesville and Benjamin Brackett of Charleston, S.C.; three great-grandchildren, Joshua Lami, Holiday Godfrey, and Dominique George; and two brothers, Burl Parsons and Doyle Parsons. James Paul Bowles, age 84, of Gold Hill Road, Concord, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at his residence. He was born in Alexander County March 10, 1921, the son of the late Marvin A. Bowles and Elsie Lackey Bowles. He retired from the Cabarrus County Agricultural Extension Service as Livestock Agent, and following retirement, he raised beef cattle. Mr. Bowles was a member of McGill Baptist Church in Concord and was past president of the Cabarrus County Farm Bureau. A veteran of World War II, he was a First Lieutenant of the 66th Infantry. In August 2005, he received the Bronze Star. He was a graduate of N.C. State University, past president and chief of the Cold Water Fire Department, a member of the Cabarrus County Livestock Association, and a member of the Board of Equalization and Review. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Flake Bowles. Survivors include his wife, Geneva Grubbs Bowles of the home; a daughter, Betsy B. John William Fortner, age 95, of Commonwealth Avenue, Charlotte, and formerly of Alexander County, died Thursday, January 5, 2006, at his home. He was born in Gaston County September 24, 1910, the son of the late James Christy Fortner and Mattie Nelson Fortner. He was a construction worker and a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Gladys Steele and Dolly Newmaster, and two brothers, Austin Fortner and Woodrow Fortner.
