Erica Jo Murray, 24, of 1615 White Oak Drive, died December 6, 2001.
A native of Athens, Ohio, she was a daughter of Candace Stoffel of Statham and Dr. David Stoffel of Athens. A 1995 honor graduate of Cedar Shoals, and a 1999 honor graduate of the University of Georgia, she recently completed her Master's Degree from the University of Georgia. Mrs. Murray was the Choral Director at West Jackson Middle School for two years, and was currently employed with South Gwinnett High School, also as Choral Director. Locally, she was active with the Masters Hall Singers at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education and Vocal Ensemble. She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church, Athens and was preceded in death by her sister, Andrea Stoffel, in December, 1999.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 10, 2001, at 4:30 PM at Central Presbyterian Church. Dr. Robert Bohler, Jr. and Rev. Joe M. Hughes will officiate.
Survivors in addition to her parents include a husband, Thomas Murray; and grandmother, Betty Rike of Paulding, Ohio.
The family will receive friends Sunday evening at the residence of Candace Stoffel, 400 Birchfield Drive, Statham, and in the social center of Central Presbyterian Church, following the memorial service.

Pauline Dora McCannon Mathews, 81, of 626 Washington Road, died May 23, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Ettie Patton McCannon. She was a member of Burts United Methodist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, May 25, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Burts United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Fuller officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Lamar Cofer, Thomas McCannon, Steve McCannon, Steve Peterman, Ed McCannon and Donald Harrison.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Mathews, Clay Mathews and John S. Owen, III.

Ida T. Matthews, 88, died August 29, 2001.
A native of Griffin, GA, she was a daughter of the late James Walter and Jane Napier Touchstone. A resident of Flowery Branch for a number of years, she was retired from South Hall County High School and was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Gainesville.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, September 4, 2001 at 2:00 PM from the graveside in Oak Hill Cemetery, Griffin.

Conley McDaris

Conley Michael McDaris, 20, died April 19, 2002. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Charles C. McDaris of Hull.
Mr. McDaris was a painter apprentice and attended Edwards Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, April 21, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Jamie Doster officiating. Interment will be in Bogart United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Martha Moore

Martha W. Moore, 97, of Sandy Cross Community, died September 28, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Mae Stevens Whitehead and widow of Austin Moore. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Oglethorpe County from 1953 - 1970 and was a member of Sandy Cross Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, September 30, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Sandy Cross Baptist Church with Revs. George Hall and Clayton Sanders officiating. Interment will be in Stevens Family Cemetery.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, Anne M. and Larry Vaught and 2 grandchildren, Julie Vaught and Karen Vaught of Galivants Ferry, SC, nieces, l nephew and many special cousins and friends.

Mary Brooks Smith- Murray

Mrs. Mary B. Murray, 89, died October 19, 2001 at her home in Lexington. A native of Oglethorpe County, Lexington, GA, she was the daughter of the late Robert F. and Gladys Crawford Brooks and widow of Robert Hoke Smith. She married William G. Murray in 1990. She was preceded in death by her twin sister, Louise Brooks Brown, 2 brothers, Robert F. (Bobby) and Thomas Crawford Brooks.
Mrs. Murray received her education at Meson Academy, Shorter College in Rome, GA and the University of Georgia. Music was her profession, having been a teacher of piano and a church organist for over sixty-five years. She willingly shared her talent whenever and wherever she could.
Mrs. Murray was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, Oglethorpe County, The Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, Washington, GA and other heraldry organizations. She was the Chapter President of Historic Oglethorpe County, Inc., and served these organizations in many capacities.
Mrs. Murray was an active member of Lexington Baptist Church, having joined this church in 1923. Since 1971, she has been the church organist and pianist, the year she and Mr. Smith returned to Lexington from Perry, GA to spend their retirement years. She was lovingly spoken of as "Mary Music".
One of her many pleasures she enjoyed with her talent was the monthly visit to Quiet Oaks Nursing Home to play the piano and entertain the patients. She played in 1988 for the dedication of the building and there after every month.
Mrs. Murray is survived by her husband, William G. Murray, a stepson, Gordon Murray, Astoria, OR, a brother and sister-in-law, C. Clifford and Olga S. Brooks, Crawford, GA, a sister-in-law, Amelia R. Brooks, Conyers, GA, several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews. "Tup" as she was lovingly called, will always live in the hearts of her nieces and nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
The funeral will be held at Lexington Baptist Church on Sunday, October 21, 2001 at 3:00 PM with The Revs. Harry Warren, George M. Hall, Jack Lindsay and Billy Tucker officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery, Lexington, GA.
Pallbearers will be grand nephews, Charles Simpson, Chuck Brooks, Bobby Cook, William F. Paine, Lynn Townsend, Brooks Brown, a dear cousin, Charles R. Crawford and a dear friend, Wade Grant.
Honorary pallbearers will be Deacons of Lexington Baptist Church, members of the Coworkers Sunday School Class, members of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and members of the Kettle Creek Chapter Daughters American Revolution.

Nell Norton, 82, formerly of Hull, died May 12, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Homer and Alice Owensby Gillespie, and the widow of Fletcher D. Norton. She was a homemaker and a member of Hull Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, May 14, 2001, at 11:00 AM at the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, EAST. Rev. Randy Crowe will officiate. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include two daughters and sons in law, Celeste and Alvin Wilbanks of Lawrenceville, and Carolyn and Chet Davis of Athens; son and daughter in law, James and Janice Norton of Hull; sister, Geneva Crumley of Smyrna; brother, Bud Gillespie of Michigan; six grandchildren, Mark Davis, Keith Davis, Tonya Robinett, Tricia Giles, Blake Norton, and Kyle Norton; seven great grandchildren.

A native and longtime resident of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Eddie Lee and Mamie Harris Clark Norman. She was a member of Pentecost Chapel Congregational Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, September 24, 2001, at 10:00 AM at Pentecost Chapel Congregational Holiness Church. Revs. Tye Sorrow and Butch Roberts will officiate. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include a sister, Laura Palmer of Lexington; numerous nieces and nephews.
Nephews and great nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Flowers will be accepted as well as memorials to Pentecost Chapel Congregational Holiness Church.
