Paul E. (Bobby) Ogle
1934 - 2001
Winterville, Georgia
Paul E. (Bobby) Ogle, 66, of Grove Chapel Church Road, Winterville, passed away Thursday, July 5, 2001.
A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, Mr. Ogle was a son of the late Wade and Pearl Chambers Ogle. He was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister. Mr. Ogle was retired from Westinghouse / ABB after 27 years. He was a member of Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday at Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church with the Revs. Raymond Duncan and Jim Gilstrap officiating. Interment will follow in the chuch cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Mamie Callaway Ogle, Winterville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Sam Christian, Winterville, Teresa and Larry Prather, Winterville; a son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Karen Ogle, Winterville; a brother, Howard Ogle, Winterville; two sisters, Mattie Lee Palmer, Winterville, Pearlie Mae Brooks, Athens; and six grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Eric Christian, Kevin Christian, Rusty Prather, Frankie Ogle, Scott Fleming, and Kelly Slayton.
The family will receive friends at Lord and Stephens, EAST, Friday evening from 7:00 until 9:00. Memorial contributions can be made to Grove Chapel Congregational Holiness Church, c/o Lisa Carter, 275 Meyer Farm Road, Winterville, GA 30683.

Betty Parsons
1931 - 2001
Bishop, GA
Betty Barnett Parsons, 69, died May 25, 2001.
A native and lifelong resident of Oconee County, she was a daughter of the late Newell and Chessie Dellinger Barnett.
Mrs. Parsons was a retired clerk with the U.S. Post Office, having worked in Athens and Bishop. She served as Bishop City Clerk and was in charge of voter registration as a poll worker for a number of years. Mrs. Parsons was well known for her doll collection. She was a member of Prime Timers at Watkinsville First Baptist Church and a member of Briarwood Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, May 27, 2001 at 3:00 PM at Briarwood Baptist Church with Revs. Dan Fuller and Carlos Sibley officiating. Interment will be in Bishop Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Harry McDonald, Gene Dellinger, Lamar Brown, Johnny Dellinger, Wayman Ash and Randy Parsons.
Honorary pallbearers will be Athens-Clarke County Fire Department Honor Guard.
Survivors include her husband, Harold Parsons; Children and spouses, Clay and Sharon Parsons and Mark and Sandi Parsons of Watkinsville, Ken and Anita Parsons of Bogart and Tonya Parsons Bell and Jeff Bell of Watkinsville; She is also survived by 11 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Doris Payne
1931 - 2001
Athens, GA
Doris N. Payne, 70, loving mother and grandmother, died November 12, 2001.
A native of Alleghany County, VA, she was a daughter of the late B.C. and Wyomia West Nelson and widow of LTC Kenneth L. Payne. A former resident of Virginia, she was a member of Good News Christian Four Square Church, and had made her home in Athens since 1995.
Graveside services will be held at Arlington National Cemetery.
Survivors include 2 sons, Ken Payne of Athens and Kermit Payne of Phoenix, AZ; Brother, Bud Nelson of Middleberg, FL; Grandchildren, Lynn Parham of Atlanta, Matthew Payne of Athens and Kristen, Micheal and Nicole Payne of Donalsonville, GA and cousin, Shirley Bruffey of Covington, VA.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gideon International Society or Good News Christian Four Square Church, 214 Lexington Avenue, Covington, VA, 24426.

Margie Ree Patterson
1909 - 2002
Hull, GA
Margie Ree Patterson, 92, died March 25, 2002.
A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late James T. and Leola Robena Sailors Smith and the widow of James Grady Patterson. 4 Sisters, Clara Hardman, Mamie Hardman, Pauline Black and Rose Lane and 2 brothers, Ernest Smith and Hoyt Smith, preceded Mrs. Patterson in death. She made her home in Jacksonville, FL for 32 years, having returned to Madison County in 1976. Mrs. Patterson was a member of West End Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Larry Elliott officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include a sister, Mae Southard of Thousand Oaks, CA and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 6:00 until 9:00 PM.

Horace Peck
1925 - 2001
Athens, GA
Horace William Peck, 76, died November 25, 2001.
A native of Oconee County, he was a son of the late Joseph Emory and Pearl Harper Peck and widower of Montine Ayers Peck. He was preceded in death by a sister, Hilda Miller and brother, Vernon Peck.
Mr. Peck was retired from Eli Witt with 33 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked with K-Mart for several years. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII and was a member of Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 28, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, WEST with Revs. Bill Ricketts and Charles Giles officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Survivors include a daughter and son in law, June and Robert Cunningham of Bishop; Son and daughter in law, Gene and Gwen Peck of Watkinsville; 2 stepsons and spouses, Danny and Karen Self of Athens and Jud and Sylvia Self of Mooresville, NC; 2 sisters, Edith Whitehead of Farmington and Mary Anna Paulson of Ringgold, GA; 3 brothers, John A. Peck and Archer Peck of Farmington and Fred Peck of Athens;
6 grandchildren, Megan Cunningham, Jordan Peck, Corie Peck, Lucas Peck, Nat Self and Drew Self and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Allen Peterman
Lexington, GA
Allen Peterman, 76, died March 23, 2002.
A native and lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, he was the eldest son of the late Ben W. and Vernon Cramer Peterman. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and member and deacon of Salem Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 25, 2002 at 2:30 PM at Salem Baptist Church with Revs. Dan Fuller and Jack Lindsay officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Wilson Peterman; Son and daughter in law, Steven A. and Sharon B. Peterman of Stephens; 3 sisters, Edith Hammond Craft of Athens; Alma Amason of Lincolnton, and Patsy Cruce of Loganville; 5 brothers, Robert Hudson Peterman of Decatur, Tom R. Peterman of Monroe, NC, Jerry F. Peterman of Stephens, Billy M. Peterman of Winterville and Ralph Peterman of Lexington; A loving grandfather to 4 granddaughters, Sabrina, Stacie, Shannon and Stephanie Catherine "Little Buddy".
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Baptist Church Scholarship Fund or Building Fund.

Danny Phillips
1952 - 2001
Danielsville, GA
Danny Edwin Phillips, 48, died December 9, 2001.
A native of Jackson County, he was a son of Elizabeth Gilreath Phillips of Danielsville and the late Wiley "Jr."Phillips. A lifelong resident of Madison County, he was formerly employed with Carrier Transicold and American Monorail and was a Viet Nam veteran.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 12, 2001 at 2:00 pm at Lord & Stephens Chapel, Danielsville with Revs. John McDonald, Connie Gilreath McDonald and Greg Russ officiating. Interment will be in Danielsville Memorial Gardens.
Survivors in addition to his mother include 2 daughters, Marlana Phillips of Hull and Maranda Massey of Covington; Sister and Brother in law, Sandy Phillips amd Rusty Haagen of Ila; 3 grandchildren, Daniel Massey, Kristin Massey and Jacob Massey; Niece, Elizabeth Haagen and nephew, Russ Haagen.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 PM.

Christopher Poole

Christopher Ryan Poole, 23, of Nashville, TN, died April 11, 2001.
A native of Statesboro, GA, he was a son of Mr. and mrs. Robert Poole of Athens, GA and Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Riggs of Lawrenceville, GA. He attended Statesboro High School and later pursued his love of music, moving to Nashville in 1996. He was associated with Great Impressions Printing Company.
Funeral services were Friday, April 13, 2001 at 4:00 PM at Belmont Church in Nashville with the Rev. Charles Newman officiating. Graveside services and interment were Saturday, April 14, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Oconee Hill Cemetery in Athens with the Rev. Gene Britton officiating.
Survivors in addition to his parents include 2 children, Jordan Poole and Ella Poole and their mother, Doris Graves; Devoted companion, Brenda Bagull; Brother and sister in law, Eric and Tavala Poole; 3 step brothers, Christopher Howard, Courtland Howard and Carter Howard; Grnadparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Poole, Sr. and Earl and Patsy Sweikhart.

Margaret Polk
1921 - 2001
Lexington, GA
Margaret Ann Polk, 80, died October 2, 2001.
A native of Oglethorpe County, she was a daughter of the late Edgar J. and Winifred Smith Maxwell, widow of Robert William Polk and preceded in death by a son, James Edgar Polk. Mrs. Polk was a retired school teacher with Oglethorpe County Board of Education and a member of Lexington Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, October 5, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lexington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Stan Sizemore officiating. Interment will be in Clark Cemetery.
Survivors include 3 sons, Robert William Polk of Rapid City, SD, Larry Eugene Polk of Stone Mountain and John David Polk of Rayle; 2 sisters, Carolyn Bryant of Lexington and Winifred Martin of Sylvania; 2 brothers, David Maxwell of Athens and Bobby Maxwell of Lexington; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lexington Presbyterian Church.

Sonny Powell
1935 - 2001
Sonny Powell, 66, died November 1, 2001.
A native of Korea, she had lived most of her life in Athens and was the widow of Olin E. Powell. She was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 2, 2001 at 4:00 PM from the graveside at Hull Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating.
Survivors include friends, Gail Tanksley and Helen Parker of Athens and a number of other friends.
