James P. Flythe
CHESAPEAKE - James Paul Flythe, 90, of the 4000 block of Maple Drive, died Jan. 22, 2008. A native of Chesapeake, he was the widower of Margaret J. Flythe. Mr. Flythe was a retired aircraft mechanic at Fort Eustis and an Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include four children, Thomas J. Flythe, James L. Flythe, Ruth Ann Kemp and Joseph P. Flythe; four stepchildren, Herbert Johnson Jr., Jean Johnson, Ann Daniell and Martha Johnson; 14 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. in Olive Branch Cemetery by James Lee Flythe Jr. The family will receive friends in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, today from 7 to 8 p.m. Contributions may be made to a German shepherd rescue association.

Angela S. Lechlitner
NORFOLK - Angela Sue Lechlitner, 28, of the 2400 block of Shafer St., and formerly of Goshen, Ind., was found Jan. 19, 2008, in her residence. She was born Feb. 22, 1979, in Ephrata, Pa., to Rex Lechlitner and Grace (Zimmerman) Lechlitner. She is survived by her parents of Goshen; two brothers, Jeremy Lechlitner of Elkhart, Ind., and Daniel (Jennifer) Lechlitner of Goshen; a niece; and maternal grandmother, Anna Mary Zimmerman of Denver, Pa. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents, Tiny and Doris Lechlitner and maternal grandfather, Clayton Zimmerman.
Angela worked at Norfolk Botanical Garden as a greenhouse tech. She was a member of Tabernacle Church of Norfolk, a 1997 graduate of Goshen High School and 2003 graduate of Purdue University. She was also associated with Beth Messiah Synagogue in Norfolk.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Rieth-Rohrer-Ehret Funeral Home, 311 S. Main St., Goshen. She will lie in repose at the church one hour prior to the service. A funeral will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in Grace Community Church, Goshen, by Pastor James Brown of Grace Community Church. Burial will be in Olive (East) Cemetery. Elijah F. Pearce
PORTSMOUTH - Elijah Franklin Pearce, 85, of the 600 block of Kent Drive, passed away Jan. 23, 2008, in a local hospital. A native of Princeton, N.C., he was a retired electrician for Oceana Naval Air Base. He was a member, deacon and Sunday school teacher at Fairview Heights Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Lela M. Pearce; a daughter, Phyllis P. Britt and husband Thomas of Aiken, S.C.; a sister, Martha Royal of Smithfield, N.C.; three grandchildren, Catherine W. Britt, C.P. McDonough Britt and Elizabeth J. Britt; and a great-grandchild, Caden McDonough Britt.
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth Blvd. Chapel, by the Rev. Fred Williams. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens Monday at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 7 to 8 p.m.

Samuel H. Rosenblatt
VIRGINIA BEACH - Samuel H. Rosenblatt, born Oct. 25, 1920, passed away in Boca Raton, Fla., Jan. 24, 2008. He was a native of Norfolk and resident of Norfolk and Virginia Beach before retiring to Florida. He was predeceased by his parents, Herman and Fannie Rosenblatt and his sister, Helen Caplan.
Mr. Rosenblatt is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Gertrude Kramer Rosenblatt; two sons, Alan E. Rosenblatt and his wife Barbara of Alexandria, Charles M. Rosenblatt and his wife Nancy of Virginia Beach, and the apple of his eye, his daughter, Judith Lynn Rosenblatt of Virginia Beach; two loving granddaughters, Amy and Barbara; and a brother, Joseph I. Rosenblatt and his wife Shirley of Boca Raton.
Sam, as he was known by his family and friends, served as an Air Force officer during World War II. He was stationed in Italy during the war and flew many missions over Germany and Eastern Europe. On his 15th mission, Feb. 13, 1945, his B-24 airplane was shot down and Sam remained a prisoner of the German Army until the war’s end.
After the war, Sam was an insurance agent and dedicated much of his life to Israel and Jewish causes. In the early 1950s, Sam and a group of young men established Temple Israel at its present location on Granby Street. Sam was one of the founding vice presidents of the Temple, and later served as the Temple’s third president. He also served as president of the Jewish Community Center of Norfolk. In addition, Sam served on the board of directors of the United Jewish Federation of Tidewater, and he worked as part of a group that helped build and establish the Beth Sholom Home of Eastern Virginia. Sam also dedicated much of his young adult years to the Boys Scouts of America, and he was instrumental in the formation of Troop 17, Norfolk, which he served as the assistant scout master.
A funeral will be held at Temple Israel, Granby Street, Norfolk, Sunday at 1 p.m. Rabbi Michael E. Panitz will officiate. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Charles and Nancy Rosenblatt Sunday after the service and Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
The family requests that donations be made to Temple Israel, Beth Sholom Home, the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
