Maria Nieto
Funeral services will be Monday and Tuesday for Maria Nieto, who died after a long illness Wednesday at Watsonville Community Hospital. She was 72.
A native of El Carmen, Tlaxcala, Mexico, Mrs. Nieto lived in Watsonville since 1960.
She is survived by three sons, Samuel Nieto of San Francisco, John Nieto of Watsonville and David Nieto of Italy; three daughters, Martha Hinojosa of Watsonville, Esther Alcala of Freedom and Elizabeth Nieto of San Jose; two brothers in Mexico; 11 grandchildren and one great- grandchild.
Her husband, Manuel Nieto, died in 1995.
A funeral service will be at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Mehl's Colonial Chapel in Watsonville. A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Pioneer Cemetery. Friends may visit at Mehl's from 2-9 p.m. Monday.
Robert Rice
No services are planned for Robert D. Rice, who died Wednesday at his Watsonville home. He was 81.
A native of San Francisco, Mr. Rice lived in the Watsonville area for more than 45 years. He was a retired worker with Southern Pacific Railroad.
He served in the U.S. Navy and was a World War II veteran.
He is survived by three cousins of San Francisco, Patricia and Kathrine Keeley and Grace Frontin.
Cremation at the Soquel Cemetery will be private. Davis Memorial Chapel of Watsonville is in charge of arrangements.

Steven F. Lind
Services will be private for Steven Frederick Lind, who died Friday. He was 55.
He was born and raised in Modesto.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After the war he worked as a gardener and a handyman.
Mr. Lind is survived by father Harold Lind of Aptos.
Contributions are preferred to a the SPCA or a favorite charity.
John W. Bullard III
Private services were held for John Wallace Bullard III, who died April 30 at Watsonville Community Hospital of cardiac arrhythmia. He was 34.
He was born in Elko, Nev.
He was a 1983 Soquel High School graduate. He later earned his associate’s degree at Cabrillo College.
He worked at Gayle’s Bakery, The Farm Bakery and Target in Watsonville.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and co-workers. He also enjoyed weightlifting, listening to music and comedy.
Mr. Bullard is survived by mother Shirley Bullard, brother Phil Bullard of San Luis Obispo, and nephew Zach Bullard.
Contributions are preferred to a favorite charity.
Kathleen Berg
Services will be Saturday for Kathleen Berg, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz. She was 72.
She was born in Sewickley, Pa.
She volunteered as a teacher’s aide for Capitola Elementary School for 23 years.
Mrs. Berg was a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers football team. She also enjoyed taking morning walks.
Mrs. Berg is survived by husband Richard Berg of Capitola; daughters Kathleen Moore of Ferndale and Sally Standage of Roy, Utah; sons Richard David Berg of Capitola and Robert Berg of Santa Cruz; sisters Margaret Glatz of Sarasota, Fla. and Sarah Caldwell of Perrysville, Pa.; brothers William Henry of Boynton Beach, Fla., James Henry of Memphis, Tenn., Joseph Henry of Ross Township, Pa. and Robert Henry of Marion Center, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Benito and Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz.
Contributions are preferred to Father Flannagan’s Boystown, Omaha, Neb.
Agustin Vanegas
Services will be Friday for Agustin Vanegas, who died Monday at Watsonville Community Hospital. He was 80.
He was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He lived in Watsonville for more than 30 years.
He was a retired longshoreman. He worked on his family ranch after his retirement.
Mr. Vanegas is survived by wife Felicitas Vanegas of Watsonville; son Eddie Vanegas of Texas; daughter Antoinette Contreras of Watsonville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville., from noon to 9 p.m. today. A rosary will be at 6 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at Assumption Church in Salinas, 100 Salinas Road.
