Hal Taniguchi
Services will be May 20 for Hal M. Taniguchi, who died May 4 in Capitola. He was 78.
He was born in California and lived in Watsonville for more than 47 years.
He worked for Buchwalds Cold Storage for 20 years.
Mr. Taniguchi is survived by daughters Bonnie Shimasaki of Pasadena, Nancy Der of San Jose, Peggy Yama#####a of Sao Paolo, Brazil, and Linda Truman of Salinas; son Byron Taniguchi of Watsonville; and four grandchildren.
Services will be 3 p.m. at the Watsonville Buddhist Temple, 423 Bridge St.
Clyde D. Adams
Services will be Friday for Clyde David Adams, who died Saturday in Aptos. He was 77.
He was born and raised in Cheswick, Pa., where he attended Springdale High School.
He was in the Army Signal Corps. He worked for Western Electric, AT&T and Pacific Bell.
He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. He coached several youth sports teams.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, Cabrillo Host Lions, Telephone Pioneers of America and Seniors in Retirement.
Mr. Adams is survived by daughter Jacquelyn Richardson of Port Washington, N.Y.; sons David Adams of Citrus Heights, Edward Adams of San Jose and Scott Adams of Freedom; and seven grandchildren.
His wife, Helen Adams, died before him.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, sailing from the Santa Cruz harbor.

Just Freeman Pope
Services are Saturday for Just Freeman Pope, who died Sept. 28 in Chico of congestive heart failure. He was 64.
Mr. Pope was born in Sacramento but grew up in Watsonville. He graduated from UC Berkeley and worked as an artist, jewelry maker and sculptor. He also owned a health food store in Davis and served as deacon of an Episcopalian in Woodland.
Mr. Pope maintained homes in Santa Cruz and Chico from age 50 until his death.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Mira Talbot-Pope; daughters Gwyneth Stacey of Oregon and Rebecca Pope of Las Vegas; son Nicholas Pope of Bellingham, Wash.; sisters Jean Hardy of San Jose and Joan McNair of Watsonville; brother Jerry Pope of San Jose and mother Marie Pope of Santa Cruz.
His father, Carl Freeman Pope, died before him.
Services and a silent art auction are from 1:30-5 p.m. Saturday at Subud Santa Cruz, 3800 Old San Jose Road, Santa Cruz.
Abdon Bautista
Services are Thursday for Abdon Bautista, who died Sunday in Watsonville of natural causes. He was 59.
Mr. Bautista was born in Michoacan, Mexico and lived in Watsonville for 31 years. He worked for Pillsbury Green Giant and enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by wife Maria Bautista of Watsonville; sons Mauricio Bautista of Redwood City and Octavio and Eriberto Bautista, both of Watsonville; daughters Delia Saavedra and Erica Bautista, both of Watsonville; brothers Jose Luis Caballero of Watsonville, Francisco Caballero and Jose Bautista, both of Mexico; sisters Emelia Barrios of Watsonville, Gloria Alanis of Salinas, Maria De La Luz of Mexico, Manuela Alvarez and Cresencia Alvares, both of Chicago; four grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A vigil service will be 7 p.m. today at Davis Memorial Chapel. Friends may call from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. today at the chapel. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Valley Public Cemetery.

Helen Matsuoka
Services are Thursday for Helen Matsuoka Yoshida, who died Friday in her Freedom home. She was 89.
Mrs. Yoshida was born in Santa Ana and came to the area from the San Joaquin Valley 52 years ago. She was a strawberry grower for many years and a member of Westview Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by daughter Vi Matsui of Freedom; sons Robert Matsuoka of San Jose, Stanley Matsuoka of Oakland, Norman Matsuoka of Santa Clarita and Ronald Matsuoka of Alameda; brothers Joe Kadowaki of Toledo, Ohio and Peter Yamauchi of Los Angeles; sisters Lillian Omi of Vacaville and Ruth Carroll of Long Beach; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Her husbands, Tomio Matsuoka and Kenzo Yoshida, died before her.
Services are at 2 p.m. Thursday at Westview Presbyterian Church, 118 First St., Watsonville, preceded by private graveside services at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Arrangements are by Davis Memorial Chapel.
Erma Ann Brady
Services are this Saturday for Erma Ann Brady, who died last Saturday at Oakhurst Living Center. She was 91.
Mrs. Brady was born in Weston, Idaho and lived in Santa Cruz County for many years. She was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where she served as secretary to the relief society women’s organization for many years. She was also a talented painter, her family said.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Grant V. Brady of Oakhurst; son Richard V. Brady of Laquinta and granddaughters Kathy Barrett and Colleen Meek, both of Santa Cruz. Her daughter, Sharon Lee Durcan, died before her. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Santa Cruz Memorial Park Funeral Home, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz.
