Gordon Stanley MacKenzie
Services will be private for Gordon Stanley MacKenzie, who died Oct. 31 in Santa Cruz. He was 79.
Mr. MacKenzie was raised in Redwood City and was an engineer in the Merchant Marine, a home builder and previous owner of Ray Jones Bail Bonds in San Jose.
He enjoyed boat building and restoring classic boats, storytelling and building go-carts.
He is survived by daughters Linda Tell of Hilmar, Judy Wallace of Los Gatos and Jeane MacKenzie of Aptos; son Scott MacKenzie of Santa Cruz; sister Joyce MacKenzie Hassing of Dana Point; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His wife of 59 years, Betty Ruth MacKenzie, died in 1995.
Contributions are preferred to Food and Nutrition Services, 236 Santa Cruz Ave., Aptos, CA 95003.
Edward S. Lew
Services will be Saturday for Edward S. Lew, who died Sunday at a local convalescent hospital after a brief illness. He was 85.
Mr. Lew was born in China and moved to San Francisco in 1932, where he attended high school and business college.
He moved to Salinas in 1938, and owned and operated Wings Restaurant before moving to Watsonville in 1955, where he owned the Royal Grill on Main Street for 29 years.
He is survived by his wife, Lily Lew of Watsonville; son Peter Lew of Santa Monica; daughters Dianna and Jessie Lew, both of Berkeley; brother Bing Lew of San Francisco; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
His son, John Lew, died in 1999.
Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Friday at Mehl’s Colonial Chapel, 222 E. Lake Ave., Watsonville.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mehl’s.
Burial will follow at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park.
Diane Margarita Rey
Services will be later this month for Diane Margarita Rey, who died Sunday in Santa Cruz of lupus. She was 41.
Ms. Rey was born in Santa Cruz and graduated from Loma Prieta High School. She lived in Watsonville at the time of her death.
She is survived by her mother, Alice Ortiz of Santa Cruz; sisters Debbie McDowell, Tuesday Salazar, Tricia Avila and Linda Berumen, all of Santa Cruz; brother Jim Rey of Santa Cruz; her partner of 14 years, Mark Jaramillo; four nephews and one niece.
Julia E. La Roche
Services will be Dec. 6 for Julia E. La Roche, who died Nov. 1 at home in Aptos. She was 88.
Mrs. La Roche was born in St. Louis and lived in Southern California until 1963, when she and her husband moved to Santa Cruz. She moved to Aptos in 1974.
Mrs. La Roche graduated from Belmont High School in the Los Angeles area and worked at Cabrillo College for 16 years until her 1979 retirement.
She is survived by a daughter, Donna Phillips Bucsko of Santa Ana; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one niece.
Services will be 11 a.m. Dec. 6 at Congregational Church of Soquel, 4951 Soquel Drive.
