Ruth Long Vickery, 78, of Hartsville, SC, died November 6, 2002.
A native of Ridley Park, PA, she was a daughter of the late Sydney Columbus and Margaret Reed Paul Long. A longtime resident of Hartsville, she was retired office manager for WHSC Radio and was a member of First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Sunday, November 10, 2002 at 2:00 PM from the graveside in Magnolia Cemetery, Hartsville. Revs. Chris Friedmann and Bob Klein and Bill Hager will officiate.
Survivors include her husband, Laverne D. Vickery of Hartsville; 3 daughters, Margaret Friedmann of New Orleans, LA, Jeanne Eckert of Roanoke, VA and Elizabeth Rush of West Grove, PA; son, Harold William Hager, III of Athens; brother, Robert Long of Charlotte, NC and 12 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at Brown-Pennington-Atkins Funeral Home, Hartsville, Saturday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM.

Harvey Lee Ward Jr., 70, died March 23, 2001.
A native of Madison County, he was a son of the late Harvey Lee Ward Sr. and Julia Mae Sorrow Ward. Mr. Ward had been involved with Little League Baseball, American Legion Baseball and Semi Pro Baseball. He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and was retired from Independent Life Insurance Company. He was a member of Hull Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, March 26, 2001 at 11:00 a.m. at Hull Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Crowe officiating. Interment will be in Hull Baptist Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Gene Smart, Gene Marin, Nathan Hobbs, Randall Elrod, David Betts and Mike Youngblood.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Logan Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife, Jimmie L. Ward; two daughters and sons-in-law, Cheryl L. Russell Edward Wansley, 85, died December 23, 2001.
A native of Wilkes County, GA, he was a son of the late Grady Woodfin and Ruby Ware Wansley and preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ware and Carl Wansley. He was a WWII Navy veteran and retired personnel manager with Gold Kist. Mr. Wansley was an honorary member of the Elks Club, served on the Athens Civil Service Commission and was a member of Athens First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Saturday, December 29, 2001 at 2:00 PM at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Rev. Bill Ross officiating. Interment will be in Oconee Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Gaynelle Seagraves Farr Wansley; 2 stepchildren, Julia Farr Holtzworth of Jupiter, FL and Judd Bernard Farr of Greenville, SC; Brother, William R. Wansley of Thomson; 2 sisters, Margaret Loadholt of Tignall and Lora Francis Hall of Augusta; 10 stepgrandchildren, 17 great step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Gaynelle Seagraves Wansley

Gaynelle Seagraves Wansley, 95, died September 24, 2002. A native of Clarke County, Mrs. Wansley was a daughter of the late Harvey Lee �Bob� Seagraves and Julia Suddeth Seagraves and was the widow of Russell Edward Wansley. She was a homemaker and was a member of Order of Eastern Star, Athens Business Girls and the First Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Judd B. Farr, Sr.
Funeral services were Sunday, September 29, 2002 at Lord and Stephens Chapel, EAST with Dr. Bill Ross officiating. Interment was in Oconee Hill Cemetery.

Ralph L. (Billy) Wehunt
Winterville, GA
Ralph L. (Billy) Wehunt, 79, died April 1, 2002 of complications of a bone marrow disease. A native of Athens-Clarke County, he was the son of the late Ralph T. and Kate L. Wehunt.
Dr. Wehunt was an agronomist and plant physiologist. He held bachelor and master degrees from University of Georgia and a doctorate from Rutgers University.
The devoted husband and father is survived by his wife, the former Bettie Ann Reeves; two sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Nancy Wehunt of Lawrenceville and Wayne and Judy Wehunt of Columbus; three sisters, Sara Tankersley of Greenville, SC, Patsy Barezewski and Barbara Ann Cassell, both of Atlanta. His sister, Mildred Seagraves, died earlier.
He was an agronomy specialist with the Extension Service of the University of Georgia and the Tennessee Valley Authority; chief agronomist of a major chemical corporation; and president of Doane Marketing Research Inc., a major agricultural research and consulting firm. Dr. Wehunt was a nationally known speaker and author of articles related to marketing and effective use of agricultural chemicals. American farmers considered him a pioneer in the adoption of modern soil fertility practices. In his retirement years, he was an avid gardener and landscape designer.
He was an active worker and officer in Civitan International. He was a devoted member of Tuckston United Methodist Church where he served as a member of various boards, Co-workers Sunday School Class teacher, officer of the Senior Citizens Club and several committees. He was a past lay speaker in the Methodist church and a member of several scientific organizations and University of Georgia clubs and organizations.
Services will be held Thursday, April 4, 2002 at 11:00 AM at Tuckston United Methodist Church with Dr. Doug Thrasher and Lee McNeil officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are Frank Duncan, W.C. Smith, Arneal Scott, Tom Yeargin, Tommy Chambers and Hugh Eidson.
Honorary pallbearers are members of Tuckston Co-workers Sunday School Class and Winterville Civitan Club.

John B. Whitehead, 82, of S. Homewood Drive, Athens, passed away Thursday April 25, 2002.
A native of Oconee County, Mr. Whitehead was a son of the late James Monroe and Lizzie Belle Ward Whitehead. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Frank Jackson Whitehead. He had attended The University of Georgia and served in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the former owner of Dave Gordon Auto Supply and was a member of the First Christian Church.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o�clock on Sunday in the chapel of Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, WEST, with the Revs. Ray Austin and Bob Nash officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

Sallie Hughes Whitehead, 72, died September 22, 2002.
A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Paul James and Elise Black Hughes and widow of William "W.R." Whitehead. She was an active Relay For Life participant and a member of Temple Methodist Church.

David Whitley �Whittey� Whitehead, 63, died November 19, 2002.
A native of Clarke County, he was a son of Mary J. Whitehead of Winterville and the late Wesley Earl Whitehead. He was a graduate of Athens High School and employed with Purchase Parts Group. He was a member of the U.S. Army Reserves and attended Prince Avenue Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Friday, November 22, 2002 at 2:00 PM at Tuckston United Methodist Church with Rev. Bob Murphy officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

John Winge
1917 - 2001
John W. Winge, 84, of 502 University Circle, died May 4, 2001.
A native of Toombs County, he was a son of the late Preston D. and Maude Spell Winge. He was a 1938 graduate of the University of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and was retired from Sears as Senior Buyer with 35 years service. Mr. Winge was a member of various civic clubs, was the first President for Georgia FFA, Vice President for National FFA and Georgia State AARP Tax Commissioner for a number of years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served 6 years active duty and 28 years active reserve, attaining the rank of Lt. Colonel. Mr. Winge was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 7, 2001 at 11:00 AM at Green Acres Baptist Church with Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park.

A native of Sikesville, NJ, he was a son of the late Henry and Regina Olive Smires Wildonger and the widower of Elsie Jane Alexander Wildonger. He was retired from the United States Navy and have lived in this area since 1987. He was employed with Carrier Transicold in Athens.

A native of Hall County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Nathaniel Shockley, Sr. and Mollie Stephens Shockley and widow of Gordon Wilson. Mrs. Wilson was retired from the U.S. Navy Supply Corps School with 35 years of service and was a member of Winterville First Baptist Church.

Joseph P. Wronski, 86, died May 26, 2001 in Atlanta, GA.
Born July 15, 1914 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he was a graduate of University of Minnesota with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and Master's in Physics. He was a retired physicist from Raymark, Inc. in Manheim, Pennsylvania in 1980 and was a member of The American Physical Society. Mr. Wronski was an ensign in the U.S. Navy in 1944.
Mr. Wronski was the widower of Phyllis M. Wronski (d.1987). He is survived by a daughter, Diana W. Galis of Athens, GA;

Faye Estelle Harris Young, 66, died February 20, 2002.
A native of Clarke County, she was a daughter of the late Joseph C. and Myrtle Herring Harris. Mrs. Young was a member of Young Harris Memorial United Methodist Church and several area bridge clubs.
