EDMUND P. ATTARIAN of Fort Lee died Friday. Before retiring in 1995, he was a chemical engineer for Thomas J. Lipton Co., Englewood Cliffs. He had worked in research and development in their food division, and had been instrumental in the development of the freeze-drying technique. He was a graduate of New York University. He was a member of the Thomas J. Lipton Ambassadors Club and Quarter Century Club. He also was a member of the Chemical Engineering Association, the Theodore Gordon Flyfishers, and Trout Unlimited. CLARA BAUMGARTNER FUGEL, 77, of Clifton died Friday. She was born in Romania and came to the United States in 1959. Before retiring in 1968, she co-owned the Highland Casino, Clifton. JOHN H. FUNKE of Wyckoff died Wednesday. Before retiring in 1996, he worked for P & O Transportation Co., Rutherford. Previously, he worked for SeaLand Corp. He was a member of the American Arbitration Association and had taught transportation at the Seamans Church Institute, New York City. He was a member of Saddle River Reformed Church, where he served as an elder and Sunday school teacher. He also was a member of the Upper Saddle River Shade Tree Commission and the Wyckoff Juvenile Conference Committee. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2867 and Catholic War Veterans Post 1881, both in Garfield. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Virgin R.C. Church, and was a 47-year member of its Holy Name Society and a third degree knight of its Knights of Columbus Council 12413.
