KRISTINA MARIE MEYER, 13, of the Port Monmouth section of Middletown, died May 9, in Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Red Bank, she was a lifelong resident of Port Monmouth. Miss Meyer was a seventh-grade student at Thorne Middle School, Middletown. She was a member of "Shore Things" AAU traveling basketball league, the Middletown Parks and Recreation Roller Hockey League "Ducks," and the Thorne Middle School basketball team. She was a former member of the Middletown Junior Bowlers League at Harmony Bowl, Middletown. Surviving are her parents, Ann Marie Terody and Richard J. Meyer, of Port Monmouth; two brothers, Richard J. Meyer II and Jack C. Meyer, at home; her grandparents, Jacqulyn Terody and John Terody, of West Keansburg; and her grandmother, Iris Truex of Red Bank. Arrangements were under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown. Services were held at Faith Reformed Church, Hazlet. Interment was at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown. RAYMOND "RAINMAN" F. GELPKE, 53, of Keyport, died May 12 at home. Born in Newark, he lived most of his life in Hazlet before moving to Keyport one year ago. He was a receiving dock worker for International Flavors and Fragrances, Union Beach, for 16 years, retiring in 1987. He was a communicant of St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church, Keansburg, and a member of the Middletown Elks No. 2179. He was predeceased by his sister, Geraldine Hamilton. Surviving are his wife, Ellen Rogan Gelpke; four sons, Steven Gelpke and Mark Gelpke of Matawan, Raymond Gelpke of Tampa and William Traphagen of Keyport; three daughters, Sandra Rossie of Keyport, Melissa Lentz of Germany and Christine Tye of Bayville; one brother, Harry Gelpke of Hollywood, Fla., four sisters, Jackie Semkewyc of Middletown, Lillian Fordham of West Palm Beach, Fla., Marilyn Bartlette of Keansburg, and Marie Barnes of Sayreville; one grandson, Zachary Gelpke; and one granddaughter, Sophia Lentz. He is also survived by his former wife, Judy Gelpke Calamari of Matawan. Services were under the direction of John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, with a Mass at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church. RUTH V. PARTENHEIMER ITCHMONEY, 86, of Matawan, died May 10 in Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. She was born in Camden and lived in Philadelphia many years before moving to Matawan. She is survived by her husband, William Itchmoney. Services were held at Day Funeral Home, Keyport. Burial was at Prospect Hills Cemetery, Flemington.
ESTA ZIMMERMAN, 83, of Hazlet, died May 4 at home. Born in New York City, she lived in Manalapan for 16 years before moving to Hazlet two years ago. Mrs. Zimmerman was past president of B’nai B’rith Covered Bridge Chapter, Manalapan, and also a member of Hadassah. She was predeceased by her husband, Abraham, in 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Cohen of Marlboro, and Aileen Deutch of Malvern, Pa.; one brother, Bernard Goldner of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one sister, Tillie Braff of the Bronx, N.Y.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Services were under the direction of Bloomfield-Cooper Jewish Chapels Inc., Manalapan.
WILLIAM PAUL BAGWELL, 20, of Union Beach, died May 6 in Children’s Hospital, Philadelphia, Pa., after a three-year battle with leukemia. Born in New Orleans, he was a lifelong resident of Union Beach. He worked as a boat mechanic for Monmouth Marina, Monmouth Beach. He was a graduate of Marine Academy of Science and Technology, Sandy Hook, in June. He was to begin his first semester at Penn State University, University Park, Pa., in August. Surviving are his parents, Randy and Marilyn Bagwell, of Union Beach; one sister, Christine Bagwell of Union Beach; one brother, Joseph Bagwell of Union Beach; his grandmothers, Lillian Mulder of Long Island, N.Y., and Viola Bagwell of Florida. Services were under the direction of Day Funeral Home, Keyport, with a funeral service at the Reformed Church of Keyport. Interment was at Holmdel Cemetery.
PASQUALE A. PAPA, 87, of Matawan, died May 6 in Jeanes Hospital, Philadelphia. Born in Jersey City, Mr. Papa was a lifelong resident of Matawan. He was a self-employed butcher for Pat’s Quality Market, Matawan, for many years, retiring in 1985. He was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. He was an exempt fireman, Haley Fire Department, Matawan. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was predeceased by his wife, Grace DeNardo, in 1998. Surviving are three daughters, Josephine Dickens of Philadelphia, Patricia Crawford of Ocean Grove, and Lois Edwards of Brewster, Mass.; two brothers, Victor and Ralph Papa, both of Matawan; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. MICHELE G. MEO, 80, of Holmdel died May 8 in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Maratea, Italy, he came to the United States in 1952, settled in Jersey City, moving to Holmdel in 1993. He was a veteran of the Italian Army during World War II. Mr. Meo was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Roman Catholic Church, Holmdel. He was a factory worker for 20 years for Standard Corrigate in Ridgefield, retiring in 1973. Surviving are his wife, of 48 years, Vincenza Cerrato Meo; his daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Vito Cilmi of Holmdel; one sister, Annunziata Avigliano of Italy; and one granddaughter, Nichole Cilmi of Holmdel. GINA A. "JEAN" AGOSTINI RONCHETTI, died May 8 in The Arbors Seminole, Fla. Born in New York City, she lived in Old Bridge Township before moving to Florida five years ago. She was a communicant of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Keyport. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert M. Ronchetti, in 1995. Surviving are two sons, Robert Ronchetti of Hazlet, and Victor Ronchetti of Florida; one daughter, Jean Simon of North Carolina; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. ANISE LOUISE POLING CURTISS, 80, of Keyport, died May 9 in Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Van Wert, Ohio, she lived in Coldwater, Mich., Bricktown and Hazlet before moving to Keyport. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Curtiss was predeceased by her husband, Robert T. Curtiss, in 1988. Surviving are four daughters, Nova Jean Fralick, of Coldwater, Mich., Paulette Curtiss of Bloomington, Ill., Merrie Walsh of Murritta, Calif., and Bonnie Wheet of Spotsylvania, Va.; four sons, Roger Curtiss of Bozeman, Mont., Gerald Curtiss of New South Wales, Australia, Craig, of California and Robert Curtiss of Howell; one brother, Gaylord Poling of Lancaster, Pa.; 25 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. EDGAR L. CHOLETTE, 80, of the New Monmouth section of Middletown, died May 14 at home. He was born in Auburn, N.Y., and lived in Jersey City before moving to Middletown 43 years ago. He was employed by Sterling Drugs, New York City, where he worked as a comptroller and consultant for 35 years until his retirement in 1986. During World War II, he served in the Air Force and was awarded a Bronze Star, and was assigned to the Asian Campaign, China, India and Burma. Mr. Cholette was a communicant of St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, New Monmouth. He is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Veronica J. Dougherty Cholette; three sons, Paul E. Cholette of Oswego, Ill., Michael of Arlington, Texas, and John of Belford; and two daughters, Barbara T. Palumbo of Manasquan, and Nancy De Vore of Birmingham, Ala.; and two grandchildren. Services were scheduled for today at 8:45 a.m. at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, Middletown, followed by a funeral liturgy at St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church, Middletown. Entombment will be at Fair View Mausoleum, Middletown.
MARY C. PEPPER CLANCY, 91, of Port Monmouth, died May 13 at home. She was born in County Clare, Ireland, and had resided in Brooklyn, N.Y., for many years before moving to Port Monmouth 15 years ago. Mrs. Clancy was a secretary for Chase Manhattan Bank, New York City, for 16 years before retiring in 1974. She was a communicant of St. Catherine’s R.C. Church, Middletown. Mrs. Clancy was predeceased by her husband, Daniel, who died in 1960. Surviving are a son, Daniel, of New York City; a daughter, Maureen McNulty, of Port Monmouth; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at St. Catherine’s Church, followed by interment at St. Charles Cemetery, Pinelawn, Long Island, N.Y. The John F. ALFRED GEORGE JOSEPH LUCAS, 71, of Hazlet, died May 13 at home. He was born in Montville, Conn., and had resided in Jersey City before moving to Hazlet 40 years ago. Mr. Lucas was a manager for the Continental Can Co., Paterson, for 38 years before retiring in 1982. He was a communicant of Holy Family Church, Union Beach. He was a member of the American Legion, Union Beach; the Irish Federation of Monmouth County; the American Diabetes Association; Hazlet Township Senior Citizens Association; and the American Association of Retired Persons. Mr. Lucas was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was predeceased by a brother, William. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Margaret (O’Neill) Lucas; a daughter, Donna Marie Crosson, of Rumson; four sisters, Dorothy McKunas, of Whiting, Dolores Thorsen, of Illinois, Irene Lucas, of Whiting, and Geraldine Lucas, of Toms River; two brothers, Lawrence, of Connecticut, and Edward, of Toms River; and a granddaughter. A funeral liturgy was celebrated at Holy Family Church, followed by burial at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport. The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of arrangements.
JOHN SADOWSKY, 77, of Gloucester, died May 11 at home. Born in Ringwood, he had resided in Gloucester for the past 25 years. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Sadowsky served with the Navy for 21 years, attaining the rank of FT-3. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Gordon) Sadowsky, who died in 1988. Surviving are two nieces, Carol Gould and Alexis Sadowsky, both of Middletown; two grandnieces; one grandnephew; and one great-grandniece, all of Middletown. Services were held at the Brig. Gen.
