David Medcalf
David Wayne Medcalf, age 46, husband of 14 years to Kristie (Trout) Medcalf, passed away Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. He was born October 20, 1960, in Evansville, the son of Donald Medcalf and Jo Ann (Schaefer) Brass.
He was a Class of 1978 graduate of Mount Vernon Senior High School. He had previously worked at D-Patrick and was currently an internet manager at all Expressway Auto Stores. David loved family vacations to Florida, his son’s ball games, golfing and watching Tiger Woods, and was an avid Cardinal and Colts fan.
He was preceded in death by his father, his stepfather, John Brass, in 1996, and his older brother, Herbie A. Medcalf, in 1998.
David is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kristie (Trout) Medcalf; three sons, Kody Trout, Kory and Houston Medcalf, all at home; his mother, Jo Ann Brass; and his father and mother-in-law, David and Judy Trout, all of Mount Vernon.
Funeral services were held October 13, at Schneider Funeral Home, where Brother Mark Tabor officiated.
Patricia Sanford
Patricia Ann Sanford, 51, of Mount Vernon, and wife of Roger E. Sanford, passed away on Monday, October 8, at her residence.
Patricia attended Bible Center Cathedral. She was a volunteer for many organizations and an active member of West Elementary PTO. Patricia enjoyed spending time with children, especially her grandchildren.
Also surviving are her daughters, Patricia Marie Lively of Mount Vernon and Lisa Ann Hardy and her husband, Ryan, of Mount Vernon; mother, Catherine Litsey of Evansville; sisters, Sue Sanford and her husband, Calvin, of Morgantown, Rose Honadle and her husband, Gary, of Owensboro; grandchildren, Dylan Lively, Bailey Miller, Blake Hardy and Aubrey Hardy; and nieces and nephews.
Patricia was preceded in death by her father, Charles Litsey, and an infant son, Roger Lee Sanford.
Funeral services were held October 11, at Browning Funeral Home and Rev. Ray Brown officiated.
Mary Johnson
Mary Lois (Durham) Johnson, 73, of Evansville, and mother to Virgil Ferguson, passed away Tuesday, October 9, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center. Mary had retired from Baxter Pharmaceuticals located in Glendale, California. While in retirement she had worked for Family Dollar Stores in Evansville. Mary loved music and dancing and enjoyed her working careers and happiness within her family.
Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Pam Burtenshaw and her husband, John, of Evansville; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Carbono and her husband, Joe, of Arizona; brother and sister-in-law, Bill Durham and his wife, Phyllis, of Henderson.; granddaughter, Amy Barnes of Evansville; great-grandchildren, DaYahna, Kyeran, Jaylen and Zaryen.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Magnolia (Caton) and Henry Durham and two brothers, Leslie and Harvey Durham.
Funeral services were held October 12, at Browning Funeral Home and Pastor Fred Denton officiated.
Bill Bundy
Bill Owen Bundy, age 75, brother to Paul Bundy and his wife Wanda of Mount Vernon, passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2007, at his residence in Mount Vernon. He was born July 3, 1932, in Posey County, the son of the late Virgil and Olivia (LaDuke) Bundy.
He drove a gas and fertilizer truck for Posey County Farm Bureau Co-Op.
He was preceded in death by parents, his wife, Betty J. (Belangee) Bundy, in 1996, and his brother, Harold Bundy in 2000.
Bill is survived by his son, Owen "Keith" Bundy and his wife, Peggy, of Madison, SD.; his four grandchildren, Lewis, Jon, Joe, and Ben, all of Madison, SD.; his sister, Ellen Fleming, and his sister-in-law, Marge Bundy, of Mount Vernon; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral service was held October 14, at Schneider Funeral Home, were Pastor Mark Tabor and Pastor Bob Brewer officiated.
Memorial contributions may be made to VistaCare Hospice.
Karl Ostermann
Karl R. "Bob" Ostermann, 76, of Mount Vernon, and husband of Ruby Schorr Ostermann, passed away Tuesday, October 9, at his residence.
Karl served in the United States Navy from 1951 thru 1955. He worked at Farm Bureau Oil Company in Mount Vernon, Indiana, from 1955 to 1966. After graduation with a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Engineering from ISU, he went to work for the Bemis Company. He served as production manager for plants in various locations, including Minneapolis, Minn., Indianapolis, and Omaha, Neb. After his retirement from Bemis Company, he and his wife moved back "home" to Posey County. For several years during his retirement he worked in general maintenance at Harmonie State Park where he also loved to camp.
Karl and his wife would have observed their 50th Wedding Anniversary on Christmas Day of this year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by son Shawn Ostermann (Athens, Ohio), his wife Leisa, and their sons, Alexander and Ian; by daughter, Karla Alaka (Indianapolis), her husband Christopher, and their children, Zachary, Elijah, and Merryn; and daughter, Julie (Salt Lake City, Utah), her husband Michael Bates, and their children, Oskar, Ruby, and Mabel. He is also survived by his sister, Verda Topper; many nieces and nephews; and a host of friends in all of the cities where he has lived during his life.

Jeannette Boren
Jeannette (Koerner) Boren, 89, of Evansville and mother to Ron and his wife, Terry, passed away on October 9, 2007, at Pine Haven Health and Rehab Center.
Jeannette and her late husband, Doyle, lived in Cynthiana, Owensville and Scottsdale, Arizona. Jeanette enjoyed being a hairdresser, playing the organ in church, being a member of the Friendly Circle Club in Cynthiana, the Cynthiana Eastern Star and a Gibson County Extension Homemaker. She attended Cynthiana United Church of Christ.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle, and her four-year-old daughter, Kenlynne.
She is survived by sons, Ken and his wife, Becky, of Mesa, Arizona, and Don and his wife, Rayna, of Scottsdale, Arizona; thirteen grandchildren, Jennifer Wright, James, Michael, Peter, Nicholas, Benjamin, Tiffany, Sheila, Angela, Steven, Vince, Paul and Jessica Boren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff of Pine Haven Health and Rehab Center for the wonderful care they have given Jeanette the past seven years.
Funeral services were held October 13, at Werry Funeral Home, Cynthiana Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cynthiana Eastern Star.
John Giles
John T. Giles, 65, of New Harmony, and husband to Kay Robb Giles, died Thursday morning October 11, 2007, at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville.
John was a retired Banker and Insurance Agent, and was a former President and Member of the New Harmony - Harmony Township board of education. He also served as a member of the State Board of Education. He was past president of the Charles Ford Memorial Home, and was a member of the New Harmony Working Mens’ Institute. He also coached little league baseball in New Harmony for several years. After retirement he worked for Blue Grass Satellite.
John is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Tom and Jody Giles of New Harmony, and Randy and Kelly Giles of Newburgh, two Grandchildren, Megan and Abby Giles, Brother-in-law, Gary Hardman of Cullman, AL, his Step Mother, Shirley Giles of Hillsboro, NJ and his Sister Vickee Prato of Hillsboro, NJ. Also surviving are his Brother and Sister-in-law, Larry and Pat Espenlaub of Poseyville, and several nieces and nephews.
His parents Thomas and Lelia Curtis Giles preceded him in death and a son Curt John Giles.
John loved his dogs Beau, Barney, and T.J.
Funeral services were held. at Werry Funeral Home, New Harmony Chapel and Rev. Don Cline officiated.
Clinton Hahn
Clinton W. "Bud" Hahn, 86, of rural Evansville, and brother to Olivia Brass and Marcella Brass, both of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, October 13, 2007, at VNA Charlier Hospice Center.
Bud was president and owner of Hahn Crating Company for 37 years before selling the business and retiring in 1999. He was a member of St. Philip Catholic Church and the Men’s Club at the church, St. Philip Conservation Club, West Side Optimist Club and the Evansville Kennel Club.
Bud is survived by his wife of 63 years, Henrietta (Will) Hahn; one granddaughter, Jamie Sue Rexing and her husband, Jeremy, of Evansville; sisters, Lillian Diefendorf of Sun City, CA, and Delores Angle of Evansville; two brothers, Melvin Hahn of LaPorte, and John Oscar Hahn, of Evansville; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Alex also survive him.
He was preceded in death by his son, Brian Hahn, his parents, Katherine (Wolf) and Oscar Hahn, his sister, Elizabeth Mabrey, and a brother, Robert.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, at St. Philip Catholic Church, Rev. Jack Durchholz officiating. Entombment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may also visit from 9:30 a.m., to service time Tuesday at St. Philip Church.
Courtnay Ours
Courtnay Renee Ours, age 18, passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2007, in Deaconess Hospital in Evansville, due to injuries sustained in an auto accident in Galatia. She was born on May 15, 1989, in Evansville, the daughter of Clyde "Bill" Ours of Mount Vernon and Theresa Puckett of Galatia.
She was a 2007 graduate of Galatia High School. She was employed by Arby’s in Harrisburg. She loved playing basketball and spending time with her friends and family.
Courtnay is survived by her mother, Theresa Puckett of Galatia, her sisters, Devon Sanders of Galatia, Stephanie Greenwood of Evansville, Heather Rogers of Nashville, and Tammy Weaver of Phoenix, and Sheila Williams( Clyde Ours campanion) and her children, Andrew, Nikkole, and Scarlette of Mount Vernon. She is also survived by her maternal grandparents Wilburn and Mary Puckett of Galatia, paternal grandmother, Imogene Glass of Evansville; her five nephews, Robbie, David, Michael, Austin and Donald; two nieces, Jessica and Allison; many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at Harvestime Temple, in Mount Vernon, with Brother Mark Tabor officiating and burial in Old Beech Cemetery.
Charles Kuhn
Charles L. "Charlie" Kuhn, 75, of Evansville, and brother to Mary Lou Deeg of Mount Vernon, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2007, at his residence. Charlie was born on January 23, 1932, to the late John and Clara (Bohn) Kuhn in Evansville.
He attended St. Anthony grade school and graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1950. Charlie graduated from Lockyear Business College and attended the University of Evansville. He entered the United States Army in November of 1951, graduated from Officer Candidate School at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and served as an artillery instructor until discharged in December of 1953. Charlie later served as an officer in the Army Reserves, retiring as captain in 1968. He was employed at Adler Food Company and Swift and Company before joining, then, Fiberfil in 1965, retiring as controller in 1995 from D.S.M. Plastics. Charlie attended Christ the King Catholic Church before joining St. Benedict’s Parish where he volunteered for ten years as business manager. He also acted as trustee, leaving due to illness. Charlie was a member of the Tri State Genealogical Society and a past member of the Audubon Society and the National Association of Accountants.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carolyn (Riley); and children, Karen Pitt and her husband, Stephen, John L. Kuhn, Jeffrey Kuhn and his wife, Jackie (Studer), and David Kuhn and his wife, Suzanne (Barnard), all of Evansville. Also surviving are his brother, John H. Kuhn, C.S.C. of Notre Dame, grandchildren, Alex Pitt of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hannah Pitt Otepka and her husband, Michael, of Omaha, Nebraska, Adam Pitt, Amy Kuhn, Addison Kuhn, Lucy Anne Kuhn, and Austin Kuhn, all of Evansville; and a nephew and three nieces.
Charlie enjoyed traveling, visiting the 48 continental states, bird watching, genealogy, and his grandchildren’s activities.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Mark Browning and the staff at the Bellemeade office of Oncology for their compassion and concern. Also, the family appreciates the Visiting Nurse’s Association of Charlier Hospice for their support and assistance.
Services will be held at 8:15 a.m. on Tuesday, October 16, at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, and will continue at 9 a.m. at St. Benedict Cathedral.
