Burgess, born Aug. 18, 1918, in McCrory, died Feb. 3, 2003, at Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was a homemaker and was of the Pentecostal faith.
She leaves two daughters, Mona Chisnall of Longview, Texas and Tona Malcolm of West Helena; two sons, Rickey Burgess of West Helena and Jimmy Wiley of New Orleans, La.; two sisters, Ethel Davis of Marvell and Loudie Henderson of North Little Rock; 13 grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
Her husband James Burgess, five sons and a daughter preceded her in death.

Thompson, born Dec. 23, 1916, in Mississippi to Gustavia and Ed Thompson, died Jan. 30, 2003, at his home in West Helena.
He professed a hope in Christ and joined the True Vine M.B. Church in West Helena. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge for over 50 years. Thompson was employed by Chicago Mill for 20 years and worked for another 20 years for Merchants and Farmers Bank, while also working part-time for Helena Country Club.
He leaves three sons and their families, James Thompson, Paris and Demaris Thompson, and Lee and Christine Thompson of West Helena; seven daughters and their families, Ruby Lee Bennett, of Maywood, Ill., Minister Emma Jean Thompson of Brooklyn, New York, Etta and James Lewis, Vera White and Rae and Mike King of West Helena, Vernetta and James Saunders of Overland, Kan., and Brenda and Albert Haigler of West Helena; a sister, Kate Ella Young of West Helena; two sisters in-law, Juanita Hogan of Los Angeles, Calif., and Lorene Williams of Helena; a brother-in-law, Arnell Somlar of Helena; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, 32 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and special family members Marie Thompson, Mary North and Loistyne R. King, born April 14, 1927, in Norphlet, Ark., died May 25, 2003, at his home. He was a retired press operator for Mohawk Tire and Rubber Company, was a member of the St. Charles Baptist Church and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Betty King of Indian Bay; a daughter and son-in-law, Miranda K. and Nolon B. Gregory of West Helena; and two brothers, Billy J. King of Holly Grove and Kay Kyser King of West Helena.

WALTER FEY
PINE BLUFF - Dr. Walter Roger Fey, 88, of Pine Bluff, died May 23, 2003, at the Trinity Medical Center in Pine Bluff.
Dr. Fey was born Sept. 7, 1914, in the Southland community to the late Walter and Cora Bryant Fey. He grew up in West Helena and graduated from Helena High School in 1932. He attended Memphis State University (the University of Memphis), Arkansas College (now Lyon College) and graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis.
Prior to serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, he worked for 10 years with his father on the family cotton farm.
On October 17, 1947, he married Lucille Haley in Batesville. In 1949, Dr. and Mrs. Fey moved to Pine Bluff where he practiced optometry until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Pine Bluff where he had served as Scout Master, Sunday School teacher, officer of the Men of the Church, deacon and elder. He was a member of the Arkansas Optometric Society, the American Optometric Society, the American Legion, and the Rotary Club since 1951.
Two brothers, Robert Fey of West Helena and David Fey of San Marcos, Texas, preceded Dr. Fey in death.
He leaves his wife, Lucille Haley Fey; two sons, Walter Roger "Buddy" Fey Jr. and wife Ruthie of Memphis, Tenn., and Stephen Haley Fey and wife Vicki of Bristol, Tenn.; and two grandsons, Alan Fey and Jordan Fey of Bristol.

FORREST CITY - James A. "Butch" Leoppard, 57, of Heth, died Sunday at his home. His death came sudden and unexpected.
Leoppard was born Oct. 17, 1945, in Forrest City, and was the son of Troy W. and Laura Mildred "Midge" Leoppard. He lived in the St. Francis County area most of his life, was a former employee of the Rock Island Railroad and was a Baptist.
Leoppard leaves a son, James Clark Leoppard of Miami, Okla.; two daughters, Kammie Stowe of Tuscaloosa, Ala., and Piper Leigh Wagner of Harker Heights, Texas; his mother, Mildred Leoppard of Forrest City; a brother, Todd Leoppard of Helena; a sister, Patsy R. Davis of West Memphis; and four grandchildren.

Verna Cremeen
Mrs. Verna Cremeen, age 95, a long time resident of Brinkley, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003, in Little Rock where she made her home for the past few years.
She was born Nov. 21, 1907, in Ravenden Springs, Ark. to the late Bernard and Nora Ann Beck Rafferty; her husband, Thomas Benjamin Cremeen, whom she married in 1921, preceded her in death. A brother, Jesse Raferty of Benton; a sister, Margie R. Jones, of Little Rock; and a grandson, Mark Cremeen of Helena, also preceded her in death.
Cremeen was a retired sales clerk and homemaker. She was a noted gardener, and cared for her lovely garden on South New Orleans Street until she was in her 80s. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Brinkley.
She leaves two sons, Dr. Thomas Lee Cremeen of Marianna and Dr. Bill Cremeen and wife Louise of Maumelle; four grandchildren, Bill Cremeen and wife Sonia of Atlanta, Ga., Beverly Cremeen of the Netherlands, Thomas Cremeen Jr. of Alexander, and Leanne Cremeen Johnson and husband Kyle of Little Rock; and three great-grandchildren, Andrew, Emma and Luke Cremeen of Atlanta.

Lonzo, born July 4, 1917, to the late Lula Volley Lonzo and Jimmie Lonzo, died Jan. 19, 2003.
He was united in marriage to Bernice Hill in 1941 and to their union 11 children was born. His wife Bernice; his brother, Earnest; two sisters, Beulah and Lola; two grandchildren and two sons-in-law preceded him in death.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the Mercy Seat M.B. Church and later joined Mount Tabor M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. Hull. He was a World War II veteran, a farmer and a retired laborer with over 40 years of service at Chicago Mill and Lumber Company.

MARY ENLOW
A memorial service for Mary Katherine Brown Enlow, 90, of West Helena will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, 2003, at the Cleburne Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Enlow died Jan. 23, 2003, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Enlow moved as a child to West Helena with her family before 1920 from her birthplace of Rice Lake, Wis. In 1937, she married Foy Lee Enlow, who was then the catcher for the Helena semi-professional baseball team and who later managed the Helena Fertilizer Company. Her husband preceded her in death in 1959.
She worked for the Arkansas Department of Human Services for more than two decades before retiring in the mid-1980s. She was a volunteer at the Phillips County Library in Helena and was a devoted member of the Cleburne Avenue Presbyterian Church for more than 80 years.
Mrs. Enlow is survived by her brother, the Rev. William Brown of Elkin, N.C.; her daughter, Josephine Enlow Doyle of St. Louis, Mo.; her sons, Carter Brown Enlow and James Lee Enlow of Houston, Texas; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Cleburne Avenue Presbyterian Church of West Helena and to the Phillips County Library.

He was born August 10, 1914, in Aubrey, Ark., to Abrom and Rachel Russell-McKenzie. He married Mary Alice Tate in 1940 and she preceded him in death in 1994. He moved to Chicago to live with his daughter in November 1993.
He leaves two daughters, Verlyn Campbell of Memphis, Tenn., and Earlene Tyree (Melvin) of Chicago; a sister in-law, Annie Carter of Chicago; five grandchildren, Diane (Wayne) Robinson, Jennifer Campbell of Atlanta, Ga., Latanya (Dannie) Johnson of Miami, Fla., Jacquelyn (Don) Jones of Houston, Texas, and William J. Pearson, born Feb. 2, 1932, to Arlean Carr and Tom Canady, died March 29, 2003, at her home in the Modoc community near Elaine.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age in Clover Hill, Miss. She later moved to Modoc and joined the Pilgrim Guide M.B. Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. E.D. Nix. She was the mother to 12 children. She was employed for many years as a farm worker, after retirement she became a housewife, was a gardener and loved growing flowers. She enjoyed fishing with her two grandsons and served as the president of the usher board and served as a church mother at Pilgrim Guide Church. She was also a faithful member of the Women's Community Choir.
Her mother, father, three sisters, three brothers, two daughters and two sons preceded her in death.

MAXCINE Y. WILLIAMS
Funeral services for Maxcine Young Williams, 73, of Atlanta, Texas, and formerly of West Helena, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. The Rev. J.L. Sanders will officiate. Burial will be at Marianna Memorial Park in Marianna.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2003, at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.
Williams, born Sept. 9, 1929, in Frost, Texas, died April 3, 2003, at her home in Atlanta.
She leaves two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Diane Young of Douglasville, Texas, and Jimmy and Ladonna Young of McCloud, Texas; four brothers, Cecil Horne of Helena, Curtis Horne of Chillicothe, Mo., Bill Horne of West Helena and Jim Horne of Gettysburg, Pa.; three sisters, Doris Evans of Wichita Falls, Texas, Evelyn Owens and Iva Walker of West Helena; and six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Her first husband, J.T. Young, son Rickey Young and her second husband, Robert D. Williams, preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Charles Walls, Roy Henson, Tommy Ford, Bryan Ford, Tim Gibson Brandon Millwood, and Scotty Freeman.
Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.
MARY CAMPBELL
Funeral services for Mary Jane Campbell, 70, of Wabash will be held at noon Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Old Jerusalem Baptist Church in Wabash. The Rev. Artis James will officiate. Burial will be at the First Baptist Church Cemetery in Elaine.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2003, at the chapel of Brown's Home for Funerals.
Campbell, born Aug. 5, 1932, to Elbert and Rebecca Johnson, died March 31, 2003, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis Tenn.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Old Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. C.B. Bingham.
She was united in marriage to James C. Campbell on July 23, 1949, and eleven children were born to their union.
She leaves a devoted ex-husband, James C. Campbell of West Helena; a sister, Earnestine Johnson of West Helena; a brother, Lyndon Johnson of Snow Lake; five daughters, Dorothy Miller of Lawton, Okla., Mary McWright and Mary A. Campbell of Memphis, Tenn., Rebecca Massenburg of Leavenworth, Kan., Christine Campbell Baker of Lawton, Okla., and Sharon Bowman of Memphis; four sons, David Campbell of Pine Bluff, James Campbell of Tacoma, Wash., Lionel Campbell of Harlingen, Texas, and Dennis Campbell of Decatur, Ga.; and 19 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
One son, Jerry Campbell, preceded her in death.

WILLIAM P. SIMPSON
William P. Simpson, 69, a railroad employee of West Helena, died Thursday, April 3, 2003.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday, April 6, 2003, at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in Marianna.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Roller-Citizens in Marianna with Burial in the LaGrange Cemetery.
WILSON DEESE
Wilson Charles Deese, 84, of Little Rock, died April 4, 2003. Born June 2, 1918, at Wattensaw, Lonoke County, Ark., he was the son of Bill and Susie (Flynt) Deese.
He was a graduate of Ouachita Baptist University and Southern Baptist Theological Seminary; he was also a member of the board of trustees for both institutions. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of Cabot, the West Helena Baptist Church, and was a former employee of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention.
He served as chaplain during World War II in the Pacific and retired as a colonel with the Arkansas National Guard. He was also a chaplain with Baptist Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Jacks Deese, his parents, a brother, C.W. Deese, and a sister, Odah Roush. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lane and Bob Phelps of Maumelle, Linda and Dennis Pate of Mesquite, Texas, and Charla and Bobby Cheatwood of Little Rock; a brother, Richard Deese of Auburn, Ala.; three step-brothers, Alvin Flynt of Bentonville, Clayton Flynt of Camden, and William Flynt of Springdale; a step-sister, Emma Bowie of Clarksville; seven grandchildren, Ashley Phelps, Megan Phelps Granberry, Shelley Pate, Denny Pate, Lance Pate, Stacy Cheatwood Gove, and Kimmy Cheatwood; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 7, 2003, at Lakeshore Drive Baptist Church, 21 Lakeshore Drive, Little Rock. The Rev. Ed McDonald officiated, and graveside services were held today at Sparkman Cemetery in Sparkman.
Memorials may be made to Baptist Health Medical Center, 9601 Interstate 630, Little Rock AR 72205; and to Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia.
WILLIAM BAREFIELD
Funeral services for William Barefield, 63, of Marvell were held Saturday, April 5, 2003, at the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Trenton. The Rev. W.R. Parks officiated. Burial was at the Trenton Cemetery in the Trenton community.
Barefield, born Oct. 26, 1939, in the Santuck community, to William and Rosie Mae Ford Barefield, died March 31, 2003, at the University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
He leaves a son, Robert Barefield; three brothers, George Barefield of Richmond, Calif., Elihue Barefield and John Barefield of Marvell; five sisters, Mary Webb of Houston, Texas, Deloris Thompson of Salinas, Calif., Ann Childress of Toledo, Ohio, Shirley Jarrett of West Helena and Thelma Gaines of Houston, Texas; and one grandchild and one great-grandchild.
