Funeral services for Richard Jackson, 77, of Elaine will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the Christian Stone Church in Elaine. Burial will be in the St. Peter Cemetery in Elaine.
Jackson, born May 27, 1925, to the late Walter and Annie Jackson in Oxford, Miss., died April 5, 2003, at his home in Elaine.
Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2003, at the chapel of Jackson and Highley Funeral Home.
He was baptized in 1948 under the leadership of Rev. Otter Tate. He was a member of the New Hope M.B. Church.
In 1950, he married Annie Lee Portee, and to their union four children were born. A daughter, Lucile, preceded him in death.
He later married Minnie Britton, and to their union three children were born, but there was a total of five, for he considered Ernestine Reynolds and Perry Reed as his own.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Minnie Jackson of Lambrook; five sons and their families, Richard Jackson Jr., of Marks, Miss., Johnny and Easter Jackson of Milwaukee, Wis., Kenny and Tawanna Jackson of Lake View, Tyrone Jackson of Lambrook and Perry Reed of Richmond, Calif.; three daughters, Jackie Jackson of Helena, Dorothy and Cedric McCraney of Crumrod and Earnestine Reynolds of Lambrook; 25 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Walter Jackson Jr., J.W. Jackson and Bruce Jackson of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Lillie Mae Jackson; and a host of brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Prowell was born Aug. 17, 1953, to the union of Willie and Clara Mathis Prowell in Marvell. He died May 17, 2003, at his home in Little Rock. He accepted Christ at a young age and joined the St. Luke M.B. Church and remained a faithful member until his death.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Betty Prowell of Little Rock; his father and step-mother, Willie and Jealene Prowell; two daughters and their families, Nina and David White and Tina and Cleo Mills; five sons, David Allen, Marco Prowell, Timothy Whitfield, Kado Prowell Sr. and Benjamin Prowell; four step-sons, Timothy Prowell, Johnnie Carruth Jr., Jonathan Carruth and John Anthony Carruth; four stepdaughters, Jennifer Carruth, Jennie Carruth, Joanna Carruth, and Jamie Carruth; four sisters, Queen and Michael Robinson, Eva and Maurice Woods, Barbara Prowell and Angela Prowell; a brother, Rickey Prowell Sr. and wife Cynthia; and 22 grandchildren and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services for Gloria Jean Young-Hunt of Memphis, Tenn., formerly of Elaine, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Snow Lake. The Rev. Leroy Carter will officiate. Burial will be at the First Baptist Church cemetery in Elaine.
Hunt was born June 3, 1951, to Bedie Ann Young and Eddie Billington. She accepted Christ at a young age at the Gumwood Baptist Church, and later moved her membership to Precious Grove Missionary Baptist Church. She moved from there to the House of Prayer Church of God In Christ, where she remained until her death May 17, 2003.
She leaves three daughters, Charlotte Green, Eugenia Hunt, and Machunka Hunt of Memphis; three sons, Kendrick Hunt, Christopher Hunt and Courtney Hunt of Memphis; a sister, Marie Wright of Elaine; three brothers, David Young of Crumrod, Charles Thorton of Oneida and George Thorton of Florida; and eight grandchildren, a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends, and a special daughter-in-law, Alexa Rose.

HOLLY GROVE - Funeral services for Rillie Rosena Taylor McKissic, 87, of Holly Grove will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, June 6, 2003, at the New Zion Baptist Church near Marvell. Burial will be in the Mt. Union Cemetery in Blackton.

McKissic, born Nov. 9, 1915, at Postelle, died June 1, 2003, at Helena Regional Medical Center.
She was the third of four siblings born to Johnny and Pearly Fitzchew-Taylor. Her siblings Joe Willie, Nora and John Wesley Taylor all preceded her in death as did her parents, and husband Mack McKissic, whom she married at an early age.
She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age and became a member of Mt. Union Church of God in Christ and later joined New Zion M.B. Church and remained a member there until her death. She served as secretary of the Sunday school for many years. She loved singing, was an active member of the choir and sang with many gospel groups during her lifetime.
She was a member of the Sacred Order of the Eastern Stars and served as matron for 20 years and was also a member of the Previous Jewel Chapter.
She leaves to cherish her memory, a daughter, Fannie M. Fields; two sons, Mack and Marty McKissic, and John and Vikki Taylor; two granddaughters, Jenny V. Cumington and Valeriea Jean and Walter Cannon, 15 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, who was as close as a sister, Johnnie Mae McKissic of Minneapolis, Minn.; and a host of relatives, friends and her church family whom she loved very much.

King, born Feb. 29, 1928, at Trenton, died June 6, 2003, at the DeWitt Hospital.
She was a retired cafeteria worker from the Marvell Pubic Schools and was a member of the Trenton Baptist Church. She was an avid hunter and fisherman.
She leaves her husband of 42 years, Fred King of Marvell; a daughter, Linda Brown of Clarksdale, Miss., two sons Donnie Adams and Danny Adams of Lonoke; a brother, Tommy Wade of St. Charles; a sister, Minnie Bullington of Tumble Shoals; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Lawrence and Callie Wade, and two brothers Jack Wade and Jim Wade.

Kirkley was born Jan. 7, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo. the son of John Everett and Lillian Rushin Kirkley. He died Thursday, June 12, 2003, at his home in Marvell. He was employed for many years as a plant manager for Douglas & Lomason in Marianna. He was a member of the Cypert Church of Christ, the Brair Ridge Hunting Club and the Fools Hill Hunting Club.
He leaves his wife Ruth Patterson Kirkley of Marvell; his mother, Lillian Alvern Kirkley of Helena; a son, Frank Kirkley Jr. and wife Beth of Jonesboro; three daughters and their families, Renée Williams and husband Randy of Branson, Mo., Denise Gschwend and husband, Lenny Ray of Jonesboro and Tiffany Alexander and husband Lyn of DeWitt; a foster daughter, Jackie Jacks Rutherford and husband, Dee of Lubbock, Texas; two brothers, Johnny Kirkley of Batesville and Walter Kirkley of Atkins; two sisters, Jo Ann Parker and Peggy Martin of West Helena; eleven grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

Amos, born March 14, 1962, to Edith Wynn Amos and the late Ervin Dillard Amos Sr. died June 4, 2003, at the University of Arkansas Medical Sciences in Little Rock.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ under the leadership of the late Elder Wiley Johnson.
He attended the Clarendon Public Schools, graduating in 1980. He was active in basketball, football and track. He received a scholarship to play football for Coahoma Junior College in Coahoma, Miss. He worked for Riceland Foods before attending college. Later Lennox Industries employed him for 12 years before his health failed.
He leave to cherish his memory; a son Cedric Houston of Knoxville, Tenn., a daughter, Alisha Houston of Clarendon; the children's mother, Lynette Houston and a granddaughter, Precious C. Amos, born Jan. 19, 1936 to the late Finimon Wynn and Magnolia Wiley Wynn, died June, 16, 2003 at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock.
Missionary Amos confessed a hope in Christ at an early age at the St. Paul Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Pastor Wiley Johnson.
She united in marriage to the late Ervin Dillard Amos Sr. on March 16, 1954. To their union 10 children were born, five of which preceded her in death. She was a member of the Clarendon C.O.G.I.C. under the leadership of Pastor McArthur Dismuke until her health failed. She served in several capacities of the church, as church missionary, Sunday school superintendent, Bible band president, chairman of the anniversary committee and as a Sunday school teacher for Class One.
Her husband, parents, a son, two sisters and a brother also preceded her in death.

WASH ROSS
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. - Wash Ross, 86 of Benton Harbor, Mich., formerly of Lambrook died Tuesday, May 10, 2003 at his home, after a courageous battle with an illness.
Ross was born Nov. 11, 1916, in St. Joseph, La., to the late Enus and Rachael Ross. He later moved to Arkansas. Ross resided in many cities in Arkansas before finally settling in Lambrook. He was a retired owner and operator of an agricultural business. He raised many types of grain and cattle. He was a member of the Future Farmers of America and was a member of the Brooks Chapel M.B. Church in Lambrook, under the leadership of Elder A. James. He served as a deacon for nearly 50 years. He was a member of the Faithful Harmonizers Quartet. In August 2002 he moved to Benton Harbor, Mich. He became a Watch-Care member of the Second Baptist M.B. Church under the leadership of Rev. K Gavin. Ross resided with his daughter and son-in-law.

Newell "Bunk" Brown, 76, of West Helena, born on October 18,1926 in Pritchard, Miss. to Newell Sidney Brown Sr. and Mary Jackson, died on June 12, 2003, at the Helena Regional Medical Center.

He was a Machinist at the Chicago Mill in Chicago, Ill.

Abel, born Dec. 8, 1933, in Hughes to the late James Ross Abel and Ida Lee Crouch Abel, died June 19, 2003, in Helena.
He was the retired service manager for West Horner Motor Company in Helena and a member of the Lexa Methodist Church. He was a Mason.
He leaves a daughter Tracy Abel Ledgess of Oologah, Okla., two nieces, a nephew and several family members and friends.
His wife Ernestine Abel preceded him in death on June 13, 2003.
Pallbearers were Arnie Fraze, Joe Smith, Mal Stokes, Brian Summerhill, Randy Ward and Ricky Wheeler. Honorary pallbearer was Lester Helton.

Ross, born June 15, 1978, in Little Rock, died July 27, 2003, at St. Vincent's Infirmary in Little Rock.
He began his early education at Lake View Elementary School and graduated from J.A. Fair High School in Little Rock. He attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, Phillips Community College and the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Phifer Camp for at risk youths employed him as a counselor; he was a member of the Arkansas Chapter of Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation and also volunteered at the Arkansas Children's Hospital and educated small children about Sickle Cell. He loved outdoor life and animals.
He received and confessed his salvation as a young man at the Gumwood Baptist Church in Ratio under the leadership of the late Rev. P.L. Perkins. His grandfather, the late Rev. L.C. Gamble Sr. baptized him. l He united with Second Baptist Church in Little Rock under the leadership of the Rev. Kevin Kelly.
He leaves to cherish his memory his parents Clarence and Alice Ross of Little Rock; four brothers and their families, Chiron and Barbara Ross, Jamel Ross and Korji Ross of Little Rock, Keavin and Brenda Ross of Blue Island, Ill.; four sisters Shelia McGee and Cassandra McGee of Milwaukee, Wis. She was united in marriage to the late James Dennis on Sept. 28, 1952; to their union two daughters were born Opal and Birdie.
She joined St. Mary's No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. P.C. Claiborne, where she served on the usher board. She was a faithful member of the church until her illness left her homebound.
