Mary Brannon
ROSSVILLE -- Mary Elizabeth Brannon died Wednesday, May 3, 2000, in a local hospital. She was 64.
She was a lifelong resident of the North Georgia/Chattanooga area and a member of South Rossville Baptist Church and its Rebecca Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Mabel Brannon, and a brother, Vernon Brannon.
Survivors include three sisters, JoAnn Owens and Louise Daniel, both of Rossville, and Mildred Lawrence, Chattanooga; brother, Charles "Buddy" Brannon, Rossville; nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at W.L. Wilson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Daniels and the Rev. Eddie Rushing officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hills Cemetery.
Visitation will be all day today at the funeral home.
Robert Bryant
LaFAYETTE -- Robert "Pop" Bryant died Monday, May 1, 2000, from injuries he sustained in an accident. He was 71.
The funeral will be Friday at 1 p.m. at LaFayette Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Whitfield and the Rev. Lloyd Guffey officiating.
Burial will be in Concord Cemetery.
Visitation will be today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

DALTON -- Jessie Mae Betton Cooper died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in an area hospital.

Carl Dooley
SUMMERVILLE -- Carl Cecil Dooley died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in an area hospital. He was 88.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Erwin-Petitt Funeral Home with the Rev. Johnny Tinney and John Paul Parker officiating.
Burial will be in Summerville Cemetery.
William Gilbert
FLINTSTONE -- William F. Gilbert died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in a local health care facility. He was 79.
Mr. Gilbert served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Rossville (Ga.) Masonic Lodge 397 F&AM.
Survivors include his wife, Jessie Roberts Gilbert; four daughters, Sheila Walters, Calhoun, Tenn., Jean Hartsell, Spring, Texas, Joan Parks, Georgetown, Texas, and Judy Dziedzic, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; two sons, William F. Gilbert Jr., Chattanooga, and Steve Gilbert, Trenton, Ga.; sister, Catherine Evans, Hixson; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be today at 2:30 p.m. in Chattanooga National Cemetery with the Rev. Charles Dixon and the Rev. Vernon Windom officiating.
Visitation will be today from noon to 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, Battlefield Parkway.
Linda Hanson
DALTON -- Linda Lane Hanson died Monday, May 1, 2000. She was 59.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Billie Hanson.
Survivors include a sister, Ann Miller, Dalton; and a brother, Jim Hanson, Dalton.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Love Funeral Home with the Rev. Rich Hardeman officiating.
Burial will be in Whitfield Memorial Gardens.

Richard Burnette
ROSSVILLE -- Richard E. Burnette died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home. He was 63.
Mr. Burnette was a native of Chattanooga and a Baptist. He moved to Rossville two years ago from Kaiserslautern, Germany. Mr. Burnette was retired from the Army as a Master Sergeant. He served in Vietnam and received the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Burnette; and father, Alton Burnette.
The funeral will be Monday at 12:30 p.m. at the Battlefield Parkway Chapel of Heritage Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be all day today at the funeral home.
Samuel Grogan
LaFAYETTE -- Samuel "Sam" Grogan died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home. He was 85.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at LaFayette Funeral Home with minister Tom Harrison officiating. Burial will be in LaFayette Cemetery.
Casper Hamilton
ROSSVILLE -- Casper Lee Hamilton died Thursday, May 4, 2000, in a Chattanooga hospital. He was 74.
Mr. Hamilton was a World War II veteran, having served in the military police.
Survivors include two daughters, Connie Chavez, Lawndale, Calif., and Mellissa Hamilton, Chattanooga; mother, Inez Hamilton, Cleveland; four sisters, Louise Guinn, and Faye Wooden, both of Cleveland, Bonnie Hamilton, Daytona, Fla., and Carolyn Reynolds, Alpharetta, Ga.
A graveside service was Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Bob Bell officiating.
Maybell Knight
CALHOUN -- Maybell Knight of Red Bud Community, Ga., died Saturday, May 6, 2000, at her home. She was 92.
Mrs. Knight was a native of Jasper, Ga., and a member of Bethesda Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Andrew Frank Chastain and second husband, Milton Knight Sr.
Survivors include her son, W.F. Chastain; stepson, Milton Knight, Calhoun; two daughters, Frances White, Calhoun, and Alice C. Williams, Apison; brother, Fred Smith, Calhoun; nine grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be today at 2 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Hunt officiating. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery.
The Rev. W.B. Mathis Sr.
LAKEVIEW -- The Rev. W.B. "Buddy" Mathis Sr. died Friday, May 5, 2000, in a local hospital. He was 78.
Rev. Mathis was a native of Bridgeport, Ala., and a former employee of Western Union Assembly Plant. He was a pastor and had conducted bible studies in several Missionary Baptist Churches in the tri-state area.
Survivors include his wife, Verna Mathis, Lakeview, Ga.; son, Bill Mathis, Black Creek, Canada; daughter, Joy Caylor, Rossville, Ga.; brother, Clarence Mathis, Bridgeport, Ala.; five sisters, Louise Steele, Rossville, Mary Scott St. Petersburg, Fla., Wilma Hughes, Ola Mae Gregory and Wanda Samples, all of Bridgeport; six grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Monday at 2 p.m. at W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Gene Hudson and the Rev. Steve Ferguson officiating. Burial will be in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.
Visitation will be all day today and before the service Monday at the funeral home.

TRION -- Marion Elayne McWhorter died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in an area health care facility. She was 88.
