Grace Evenson Hayes, 84, formerly of GM
Grace Evenson Hayes, 84, of rural Racine, formerly of the Grand Meadow area, died of an apparent heart attack Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999.
Grace Elaine Hennager was born Dec. 22, 1914, in Nashua, Iowa, grew up in the Grand Meadow area and graduated from Grand Meadow High School. She married Roy Evenson on Dec. 1, 1932, in New Hampton, Iowa, and they farmed near Grand Meadow until moving to rural Racine in 1941; He died in 1986. On Sept. 27, 1986, she married Gerald Hayes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua and they made their home in rural Racine where she had resided since 1941. He survives and is a retired over-the-road truck driver. She worked at the former Reid Murdock canning plant (now Seneca Foods) in Rochester for many years, also worked at the Hollywood Bar in Rochester and at the former Walters Fish House in Stewartville, and was secretary and steward of Union Local 120 in Rochester. She was a longtime member of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville and its ladies aid, Elks Lodge 414 of Austin, American Legion 164 Auxiliary of Stewartville and VFW Post 1215 Auxiliary of Rochester.
Survivors also include two daughters, Darlene (Mrs. Herbert) Waggener of Chippewa Falls, Wis., and Vickie (Mrs. William) Rountree of Clarmont, Ga.; a son, Roger Evenson of Plymouth, Minn.; a stepson, Dean Hayes of Rochester; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Hennager of Maynard, Iowa, and Donald Hennager of Austin, and a sister, Lois (Mrs. Harold) Miller of Temple Bar, Ariz. She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a sister.
The funeral was Thursday at Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville with the Rev. Jule Erickson of Zion Lutheran Church in Stewartville officiating.
Burial was in the Grand Meadow Cemetery.
Robert Heales, 83, formerly of Mabel
Robert C. Heales, 83, of Columbia Heights, Minn., died Jan. 7, 1999, in his home.
While living in Mabel, he was employed in the trucking business and in Minneapolis, he was employed in construction and other work. He was a WWII veteran, member of 450th Bomb Squadron and the 322D Bomb Group in the European Theater of Operations.
He is survived by a son, Robert A. of Castle Rock, Colo., brothers and sisters-in-law, Cliff Poshumus (Gayle) of Anoka, Jim Nelson (Arlene) of Buffalo, Joanne Florin of Clearwater, Fla,. Gordon Pfeninger of Phoenix, Ariz., Marlys Posthumus of Crystal and Marion Posthumus of Cayman Islands; and 20 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna; a sister, Eileen Glass; a brother, Willard; and nephew, Clifford Posthumus.
Funerals services were Monday at Hillside Memorium Chapel in Minneapolis. Interment was at Hillside. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Manley Harlan Hebig, 85, father of SV man
Manley Harlan Hebig, 85, of Stewartville Care Center, a former longtime Rochester resident, died Tuesday, Feb. 23, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital following a lengthy illness.
He was born June 23, 1913, in Lodgepole, S.D. On Nov. 30, 1933, he married Dorothy L. McClary in Chester, Iowa, and they farmed in York Township, Fillmore County, until moving to Rochester in 1944. He then was a truck driver for Fullerton Lumber Co. The couple entered Stewartville Care Center in 1994. His wife, a homemaker, died Jan. 25, 1997. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Vernon J. of Spring Valley and Harlan G. of Rochester; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dolly Drogemuller of Rochester. Four brothers, a sister and a granddaughter preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rochester with the Rev. James Heining officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens in Rochester.

Lona 'Top' Hebl, 71, Grand Meadow native
Lona "Top" Hebl, 71, of Stewartville, a retired Minnesota Department of Transportation employee, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital as the result of a heart attack suffered two days earlier.
Born March 29, 1928, in rural Grand Meadow, he grew up on the family farm there and attended area rural schools. From 1951 to 1953 he served in the Army and after his discharge returned to Grand Meadow and farmed. He later worked for Leon Joyce Construction Co. of Rochester and from 1966 until his retirement in 1990 was employed by the Minnesota Department of Transportation-Rochester Division. On Nov. 14, 1952, he married Marcella Wallace in Rochester. His wife was a dental assistant. He was a member of High Forest Community Church, the Grand Meadow American Legion and Spring Valley VFW. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dewey and Lonnie, both of Stewartville, and Jeff of Lanesboro; three daughters, Kathy (Mrs. Richard) Swanson of Chatfield, Barb (Mrs. Daniel) Polkowske of Rochester and Anita (Mrs. Kevin) Heydt of Stewartville; 13 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren, and three sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Bernie) Zimprich of rural Racine, Marjorie (Mrs. Harold) Partridge of Grand Meadow, and his twin, Leona Ellingworth of Morristown, Minn. Five brothers and a half-sister preceded him in death.
The funeral was Saturday at High Forest Community Church with the Revs. Bob Sinex and Jim Barnhart co-officiating. Burial in High Forest Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Grand Meadow American Legion.

Donna Mae Hebrink, 66, of Harmony
Donna Mae Hebrink, 66, of Harmony, died on Friday, March 26, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital following a lengthy illness.
She was born Feb. 3, 1933, near Lime Springs, Iowa, to William and Nellie Mae (Wilmot) Mohs. She graduated from Cresco High School. She was united in marriage to Rodney Hebrink at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, on Oct. 29, 1955. She has been a longtime resident of the area and a member of the United Methodist Church of Harmony. She worked at the Harmony House before retiring in 1995.
Survivors include her husband, Rodney; three daughters, Judy Stockand of Chester, Iowa, Debra Hebrink of Harmony and Kimberly (Mrs. Robert) Freerksen of Harmony; seven grandchildren; and a brother, Donald E. Mohs and a sister, Wilma Mohs, both of Cresco.
Funeral services were 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the United Methodist Church in Harmony with the Rev. James Purdham officiating. Burial was in the Big Spring Cemetery at Harmony.

Ella (Ruud) Hedges, 95, formerly of SV
Ella (Ruud) Hedges, 95, of Gearhart, Ore., formerly of Spring Valley, died April 13 at a son's home in Gearhart, where she had resided 3-1/2 years.
Ella Ruud was born Oct. 20, 1903, in Ostrander and grew up in the Spring Valley area. She married Boyd Gammell and he preceded her in death. She married Thomas Hedges and they made their home in Steilcoom, Wash. He died in 1995.
Survivors include two sons, Joe of Gearhart and Hugh of Washington; several grandchildren; and a brother, Otes Ruud of Washington. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, seven sisters and a brother.
A graveside service was held April 16 in Washington state.
Hulda Hellickson, 97, of Preston
Hulda L. Hellickson, 97, of Preston, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at the Olmsted Community Hospital in Rochester.
She was born Hulda Kohn on Dec. 8, 1901, in Ostrander, the daughter of Otto and Louise (Deier) Kohn. She attended rural school in the Ostrander area and also attended the Mankato School of Business. On Nov. 22, 1923, she was united in marriage to Arnold Hellickson in Minneapolis. After their marriage the couple farmed in the Ostrander, Wykoff, and Preston areas. In 1953 they moved to Preston. She worked in the bakery in Preston for a few years.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and she sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Homemaker's Club and volunteered with the RSVP group at the Care Center in Preston.
She is survived by six sons; Donovan (Evelyn) of Sanborn, Minn, Duwaine (Mavis) of Ostrander, Robert (LaVonne) of Preston, Gerald (Elaine) of Preston, Richard (Geri) of Preston, and Leslie of Preston; two daughters, Ardeth (Mrs. Kenneth) Ristau, and Marlene (Mrs. Roger) McKenzie, both of Preston; 36 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; and one brother, Herman Kohn of Spring Valley.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Arnold, three sisters and two brothers; one grandson and two great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held today (Thursday) at 1:30 p.m at Christ Lutheran Church, Preston, with the Rev. James Rushton officiating. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery in Preston.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Thauwald Funeral Home in Preston and also one hour prior to services at the church.

Phyllis Helmbrecht, 75, mother of GM woman
Phyllis E. Helmbrecht died Friday, July 9, 1999, at Fairview Nursing Home in Dodge Center, where she had lived 12 years.
Phyllis Wyttenbach was born Aug. 12, 1923, in Milton Township in Dodge County. She graduated from Mantorville High School in 1941 and married Ralph Helmbrecht on Sept. 1, 1946. She worked for Waters Conley in Rochester for many years. The couple moved to Kasson in 1983. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kasson, a leader for the 6-H Club and was a Future Homemakers of America chapter mother.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Donalyn (Mrs. Stephen) Elliott of Seattle and Susan (Mrs. Dale) Queensland of Grand Meadow; two sons, Royce of Austin and Bruce of Kansas City, Kan.; 12 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; two brothers, James of San Antonio, Texas, and Daryl of Dover, Del.; and two sisters, Dorothy (Mrs. Robert) Anderson and Evelyn Suhr, both of Mantorville. One brother preceded her in death.
The funeral was Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Kasson with the Rev. Steve Dawson officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Kasson.

Robert Henderson, 75, formerly of SV
Robert D. Henderson, 75, of Fridley, formerly of Spring Valley, died Friday morning, Aug. 20, 1999, at his home.
He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Fillmore County, and graduated from Spring Valley High School. On July 27, 1947, he married Alice Bly in Spring Valley. She survives. For many years he worked at Northern Pump in Minneapolis.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Priscilla Larson of Clear Water, Fla., Rebecca Stair of Newton, N.C., and Melony Henderson of Minneapolis; two sons, Phillip of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Michael of Minneapolis; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Clarence, of Rochester. One son preceded him in death.
The funeral was Monday at Immanuel Christian Center in Fridley. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Donald R. Henke, 78, Stewartville
Donald Richard Henke, 78, of Stewartville died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999, at his home.
He was born Aug. 17, 1920, in High Forest Township, rural Stewartville and married Margaret Shields Nov. 22, 1945, in Rochester. She died in 1982. He grew up on the family farm, attended rural and Stewartville schools. He served in the U. S. Army in the Pacific Theater during WW II. After their marriage the couple farmed on the family farm and Mr. Henke moved into Stewartville in 1996. In addition to farming he was a long-time Mayo Clinic custodian until he retired from there in 1986. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Stewartville and a member of VFW Post 8980 of Stewartville.
He is survived by two daughters: Carol (Mrs. Bernard) Lecher of Onalaska, Wis., and Barb (Mrs. Timothy) Carr of Galena, Ohio; three sons, Alan, Richard, and Brian, all of Stewartville; and 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and one daughter.
The funeral was held Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Stewartville with the Rev. David Preuss officiating with burial in Woodlawn Cemetery with military graveside honors.

Alden E. Hesby, 79, formerly of Mabel
Alden E. Hesby, 79, of Faribault, Minn., and formerly of the Mabel area, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999, at the District One Hospital in Faribault.
He was born on July 27, 1920, in Preble Township, Fillmore County, Minnesota, to Reynard and Annie (Hallum) Hesby. He attended rural schools and worked on the family farm and as a laborer for other area farmers. After leaving the area, he resided in several cities until moving to Faribault four years ago. He was a member of the Scheie Lutheran Church.
He is survived by three nephews and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Julian, and a sister, Irene (Mrs. Orville) Hanson.
Funeral services were Friday at the Scheie Lutheran Church in rural Mabel with Rev. Mary Waudby officiating. Burial was in the Scheie North Cemetery.

James H. Hewitt, father of Preston woman
James H. Hewitt, 73, of St. Charles, died Sunday, April 18, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born March 5, 1926, in St. Charles to Henry Hewitt and Florence (Fuller Cook) Hewitt. He graduated from St. Charles High School and entered the Navy following graduation. He married Marjorie Selleck on Nov. 11, 1950. He became chief of police in St. Charles in 1956, retiring from the police department in 1981. Following retirement he formed Hewitt's Cleaning Service.
Survivors include his wife, Marge; four sons, Loren (Deb) and Robert (Barb) of Rochester, Joseph (Pam) of St. Charles and Jason (Jennifer) of Anamosa, Iowa; three daughters, Kathryn (Gary) Feine of Preston; Luanne (Scott) Hoeft of St. Charles, and Jan Burke of St. Charles; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one half sister, one half brother and one grandson.
A funeral Mass was held Wednesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date in Hillside Cemetery, St. Charles.

Diane Hightower, 56, Wykoff native
Diane (Prinsen) Hightower, 56, lost her battle against cancer on Friday, July 10, 1999, at the Veterans’ Hospital in Minneapolis.
She was born in Wykoff on April 22, 1943. She attended rural Empire and Flying Cloud schools, then graduated from Preston High School in 1961. She moved to Minneapolis where she worked and went to school. She enlisted in the Women's Army Corp (WAC) in 1964, serving in the medics until 1967. She took basic training at Ft. McClellan, Ala., later stationed at Ft. Sam Houston, Texas, and Ft. Hauchuca, Ariz.
After the military, she moved to Winona where she attended Winona State University. She received her degree in social work. She moved to Mankato where she lived until 1991. She then traveled to Arizona and other southwestern states. She returned to Minnesota in 1995.
She loved the outdoors, traveling, horses, dogs, and reading. She always had a smile and enjoyed volunteering and helping others.
She is survived by her parents, Doris and Carroll Prinsen, Preston; two daughters, Karen Hightower of Rochester and Amy Mastrorilli and husband Todd of Mesa, Ariz.
A memorial service was held on Wednesday at Fort Snelling Cemetery, Assembly Area 4. She was buried with military honors.
Helen K. Hinze, 86, SV native
Helen Katherine Francis Hinze, of Rochester, 86, passed away on Feb. 21, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Helen Francis was born Nov. 12, 1912, in Spring Valley to Ray and Lenore Bly Francis. She had a carefree childhood until she was nine years old, then her mother died. Not only did she suffer this devastation, it was necessary at this time for her to work to contribute to the family's support. In spite of the hardships, Helen was able to maintain her loving spirit.
Her favorite job was assisting the cook in a boarding house. There she learned to prepare meals for groups of two to 20. This experience served her well throughout her life. In addition to her famous candy during the holidays, she never allowed any of her many dear friends and family to leave her kitchen table hungry, whether it be a hot meal at mealtime or hot coffee and snacks at other times.
She was married to Lester Hinze from April 8, 1931 until his death April 4, 1963. They farmed in the Hamilton area for six years and the Chatfield area for eight years and for the remainder of their life together, they farmed in Spring Valley. After her husband's death, she moved to Rochester and worked at Maple Manor and Madonna Towers.
She was a past Worthy Matron of the Spring Valley Robert Morris Chapter No. 41 Order of the Eastern Star. In recent years, she enjoyed church services from television as it was hard for her to attend regular church meetings.
She is survived by one daughter, Jean (Mrs. Lynn) Felty of Waltham; and three sons, Raymond of Spring Valley, James of Aple Valley and Donald of Las Vegas, Nev.; fourteen grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and her good friend, June Gordon. In addition to her husband, a grandson, Russell Lynn Felty, and a great-granddaughter preceded her in death.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley with the Rev. James Ross officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 24 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home in Spring Valley. Spring burial will take place at the Spring Valley Cemetery.
Gladys E. Hoff, 89, once of Grand Meadow
Gladys E. Hoff, 89, of Stewartville, a retired Kahler Hotel employee and farm homemaker, died of an apparent heart attack Monday, June 14, 1999, at her home.
Gladys Elizabeth Flickinger was born Aug. 20, 1909, in Lehigh, Iowa, and moved to rural Grand Meadow as a child. She grew up on the family farm, attended an area rural school and graduated from Grand Meadow High School. On Oct. 15, 1932, she married Delmar Hoff in Grand Meadow and they farmed in the Grand Meadow area until moving to Stewartville in 1961. She worked in housekeeping at the Kahler Hotel. Her husband was employed at Mayo Clinic. She was a member of the Stewartville United Methodist Church and its Women's Society.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Ellen (Mrs. Richard) Bridge of Irvine, Calif., and Janet (Mrs. Jon) Holmes of New Brighton, Minn.; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Orville Flickinger of Houston, Texas.
A memorial service was held Thursday at the Stewartville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jef Olson officiating. Burial was in Bear Creek Cemetery in rural Grand Meadow.

Carl J. Hofschulte, 67, brother of SV woman
Carl J. Hofschulte, 69, of Silver Bay, Minn., formerly of the Elgin area, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999, at Lake View Memorial Hospital in Two Harbors, Minn.
He was born July 6, 1930, in Wabasha County and grew up in Viola Township, graduating from Elgin High School. He served in the U. S. Army Reserves. He was a state fire warden for more than 25 years, and worked at Reserve Mining for 31 years. He also operated Betty's Cabins for 36 years. After retiring, Mr. Hofschulte was involved in the Hospitality Host Program. He was active in St. Mary's Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Finland Recreation Committee, Finland Historical Society Board, Finland Snowmobile Club, and East Lake County Chamber of Commerce Board.
Survivors include his wife, Betty; three sons, Gary of Golden, Colo., David of Rochester, and Mark of Silver Bay; one daughter, Carla (Mrs. Dean) Floen of Silver Bay; four grandchildren; two brothers, Dwayne of North Pole, Alaska, and Larry of Rochester, and three sisters, Virginia (Mrs. Bob) Rossman of Rochester, Juneus (Mrs. Dale) Ristau of Spring Valley, and Carol June (Mrs. Joe) Hopman of Coon Rapids, Minn. A brother preceded him in death.

Camilla J. Holm, 63, Ostrander
Camilla J. Holm, 63, of Ostrander, Minn., died Wednesday morning, May 5, 1999, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester of pneumonia and heart failure.
Camilla Chapman was born Feb. 3, 1936, at Dousman, Wis., the daughter of John and Lucy (Smith) Chapman. She was raised in the Rochester, Minn., area. She married Melvin Ragland in 1951 in Decorah, Iowa, and the couple made their home in the Rochester area. They were later divorced. She married Keith Holm in May 1960, in New Hampton, Iowa. The couple made their home in the Granger and Ostrander areas where they were rural newspaper carriers.
She was a knowledgeable and avid doll collector.
She is survived by her husband; three sons, Charles, Michael and Keith Jr.; five stepdaughers, Althea, Rita, Marguerite, Mildred and Leslie; 22 grandchildren; two brothers, Dick and Robert; and three sisters, Erma, Eva and Helen.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Kevin and Kenneth; a daughter, Barbara; one brother, Raymond; and one sister, Dorothy.
There was a memorial service Saturday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ostrander with the Rev. Norman Bauer officiating. Her body has been cremated. Burial of her ashes was at St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery in Granger, Minn.

Helen Ann Holm, 71, of Spring Grove
Helen Ann Holm, 71, of Spring Grove, died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at Gundersen-Lutheran in LaCrosse, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born June 17, 1928, in Spring Grove, to Gustav and Cora L. (Sylling) Muller. She was a lifelong Spring Grove resident. She was a 1946 Spring Grove High School graduate and a 1950 St. Olaf College graduate.
On July 27, 1952, she married Donald E. Holm in Spring Grove. She was a teacher in Starbuck, Minn., Mabel, and later in Spring Grove. She retired in 1993. She truly enjoyed teaching. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove and its women's organizations. She held lifetime memberships in the MEA and NEA. She was on the board of directors of the Minnesota Council for Social Studies and was very active in community programs.
Survivors include her husband; her mother, Cora Muller of Spring Grove; one son, John (Melinda) of Lenexa, Kan.; one daughter, Carol Blagsvedt of LaCrosse and her fiancé, Noel Jordan, also of LaCrosse; and a grandson, Jared Holm. She was preceded in death by her father, a daughter, Mary, in infancy; and one brother, Charles Muller.
Funeral services were held Friday at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Burial was in the Trinity Church Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Arends officiated.

Leslie A. Holtan, 56, formerly of Lanesboro
Leslie Alfred Holtan, 56, died Thursday, Oct. 28, 1999, at his home in North St. Paul from cancer.
He was born Dec. 7, 1942, in Hayfield. He was a graduate of Lanesboro High School and Luther College, and was a certified public accountant in private practice. His hobbies were camping, fishing, old cars and playing bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Alcorn Holtan, one son, Timothy and his wife, Sarah, of Minneapolis; one daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Edward (Joe) Connor of Forest Lake, Minn; one granddaughter; his parents, Leon and Alice Holtan of Kasson; one brother, Paul, and Tracy Nicholson of Minneapolis; two sisters; Martha and David Perbix of Wayzata, Minn, and Carol and Clifton Lucido of Rochester; nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held at the West St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Hayfield, Tuesday. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Hazel B. Holthe, 85, of Rushford, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at Winona Community Memorial Hospital.
She was born on July 22, 1914, in Preston to Dell and Mary Young. She grew up in the Preston area.
She married Conrad Holthe in Lanesboro on May 29, 1939.
Through her life she lived in Rushford, Lanesboro and Winona. She worked at a dress shop in Winona, H.M. Smith Department Store and the produce plant in Rushford. She also helped with custodial work at Rushford Lutheran Church where she was a member. She was a member of the Peterson Garden Club and a charter member of the Rushford Garden Club.
She is survived by two sisters, Mary Trende of Preston and Laura Pipin of Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Ruth Holthe of Lanesboro; and two special friends, Helen Hovland and Katherine Sorom, both of Rushford.
She was preceded in death by her husband; three brothers, Fred, Emery and Eugene; two sisters, Frances and Bernice.
The funeral service was Oct. 20 at Rushford Lutheran Church. Burial was at the Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Lanesboro.
Loren Judson Holty, 74, of Mabel
Loren Judson Holty, 74, of Mabel, died Thursday, Dec. 2, 1999, at Franciscan Skemp Medical Center in LaCrosse, of a sudden illness.
He was born Feb. 1, 1925, in Caledonia, to Alden and Lillian (Wicklund) Holty. He was a longtime resident of Spring Grove. He attended "Hauge Ridge" rural Houston County country school. On March 16, 1946, he married Genevieve M. Landsom at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Riceford, rural Spring Grove. He farmed in the rural Caledonia area on "Holty Ridge" until later moving to the Spring Grove area.
He was a charter member of Calvary Evangelical Free Church of Spring Grove, a member of Spring Grove's Sons of Norway Lodge, a member of Gideons International and the Houston County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife Genevieve of Mabel; one son, Dennis (Betty) Holty of Spring Grove; four grandchildren, Bertha Lou Peterson, Christina Fajardo, Janelle Holty and Benjamin Holty; two great-grandchildren: Autumn and Jose; three brothers, Keith (Peggy) Holty of Spring Grove, Richard (Verly) Holty and Frank (Elaine) Holty of Mabel; two sisters, Lyla Thompson of Winona and Kathleen (Roger) Martin of Rochester. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Thompson and Leslie Ingvalson.
Funeral services were held Monday at the Calvary Evangelical Free Church with burial in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring Grove. The Rev. Dick Wohlgemuth officiated.
Roble Funeral Home in Spring Grove was in charge of arrangements.
Robirda 'Birdie' Horsman, 86, formerly of SV
Robirda "Birdie" Horsman, 86, formerly of Rochester, died Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Stewartville Care Center.
Robirda Petersdorf was born Dec. 5, 1912, in Pokegma Township, Pine County, Minnesota. Her parents were Frank and Sadie Petersdorf. She was raised in the Chokio, Minn., area. Her parents were Frank and Sadie Petersdorf.. On Jan. 4, 1931, she married Thomas Horsman in Morris, Minn. He died April 19, 1985. The couple had lived in Spring Valley, and she lived in Rochester for over 40 years before moving to Stewartville Care Center in 1992. She was a homemaker, selling crafts and baked goods. She loved animals and birds.
She was a member of the Senior Citizens Center in Rochester, Christ United Methodist Church, and a life member of Paws-n-Claws.
Survivors include her daughter, Alyce M. Johnson and her husband Harlan S., of Fairmont, Minn.; three brothers, Phillip Petersdorf of Duluth, Minn., Lorin Petersdorf of Jacobson, Minn., and Waldo Petersdorf of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two sisters, Marjorie (Mrs. Harold) Hammond of McGregor, Minn., and Joy (Mrs. Earl) Anderson of Menahga, Minn. She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
Memorials may be directed to a charity of the donor's choice.
