Natalie Jervis
Natalie Skelsey Cranwell Jervis died April 15, 2002, in Los Altos, Calif.
She was 69.
A graveside service is at 2 p.m. April 24 at Sunset Hills Memorial Cemetery in Bellevue.
Mrs. Jervis was born in Shelton.
Her family moved to Long Beach, Calif., where she attended Wilson High School.
She graduated from UCLA with a degree in education and was affiliated with numerous organizations including Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.
Mrs. Jervis was a teacher and then was a flight attendant for Pan Am, when she traveled the world.
She married James L. Cranwell Jr., moved to Kirkland and raised four children.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1971.
As a young widow she fully immersed herself in her children's lives.
Being a longtime resident of Kirkland she was involved in her community of Kingsgate, the Kingsgate Royals swim team and as a precinct committeeman for the Republican Party.
In 1990 she married Joel Jervis of Los Altos, Calif., who preceded her in death in 1997.
She is survived by her sister, Jackie Sheppard of Pleasanton, Calif.; son Edmund James Cranwell of Everett; daughters, Michelle Walter of Katonah, N.Y., Tamra Hunter of Issaquah and Katharine Cranwell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and eight grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Heart Association or the Organ Sharing Network.
Dolores "Dewey" Hastie
Longtime Issaquah resident Dolores "Dewey" Hastie, 84, died on Good Friday, April 13, 2001, in Seattle. Mrs. Hastie was born on Easter Sunday, April 23, 1916, in Orange, N.J. Her ashes will be scattered in Canada.
Survivors include children Joe Hastie of Issaquah, Jonnie Torguson and Teekee McClain, both of Orangevale, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Imogene "Jean" L. Schuler
Imogene "Jean" L. Schuler, 73, of Woodinville, died on April 16, 2001, at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland.
A memorial service was held on April 18 at Boehms Alpine Chapel in Issaquah. Mrs. Schuler was born on June 27, 1927, in Atlantic City, N. J., the daughter of Smith and Eva Leeds and sister of Charles Leeds. She was raised in Atlantic City and graduated from Friends School in Atlantic City.
She married John M. Schuler in 1948 in Atlantic City. She and her husband moved to Princeton, New Jersey and later to Los Angeles, Calif., before settling in Williamsville, N. Y. She was a member of Robert Schullers Crystal Cathedral in Southern California.
In 1988, Mrs. Schuler moved to Washington.
In her leisure hours, Mrs.Schuler enjoyed spending time with her family, sharing cookies with Karina, caring for animals, reading and following the New York Yankees.
Survivors include daughters Dorothy Schuler of West Richland, Karen Schuler of Santa Monica, Calif., Eleanor Schuler,of Geneva, Ohio, Allison Latham of Hartsville, S. C., and Meredith Schuler Roberts of Issaquah; sons Laurence Schuler of Snoqualmie Pass, and John Schuler Jr. of Tiger Mountain; and 11 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1990.

James E. Whittendale
James Whittendale, 65, of North Bend, died on April 15, 2001. At his request, no service will be held.
Mr. Whittendale was born in Seattle on April 12, 1936, and lived there until moving to Preston in 1973.
He graduated from Franklin HIgh School and attended the University of Washington. He worked for Sears for 35 years until his retirement in 1994.
In his leisure hours Mr. Whittendale enjoyed building his family home, cooking, gardening, and NASCAR and hydroplane racing.
Survivors include son Steve of Maple Valley; daughter Lynn of Preston; sister Nona of Preston; and two grandsons.

William D. Conway
William Conway, formerly of Issaquah, died Nov. 11, 2002, at his home.
He was 79.
A memorial service was Nov. 16 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey.
Mr. Conway was born in Foster and lived in Seattle and Issaquah for many years.
He moved to Lacey in 1964 where he was self-employed.
He was married to Rosemary Conway and they later divorced.
Mr. Conway married Marilyn Conway Sept. 10, 1965.
He was an accomplished woodworker, enjoyed gardening and, in his younger years, loved to fish.
In addition to his wife Marilyn, Mr. Conway is survived by daughters Kathy Kollmer and Jan Cobe, both of Montana; stepchildren Joyce Awe of Iowa, Robin Doyle of Lacey and Bill Qualls of Bellingham; brother Phillip Conway of Lacey; sister Phyllis Olmstead of Renton; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The family suggests donations to Hospice of Olympia in lieu of flowers.
Donald W. "Rock" Stone
Donald W. "Rock" Stone of Issaquah died Nov. 13, 2002.
He was 83.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Nov. 23 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way.
He was born on Jan. 16, 1919, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Cora Stone.
Following a 22-year Navy career, he married Mary Fazio McGuane in 1958 and moved to Seattle.
He earned a degree in accounting at Edison Technical School.
Mr. Stone then retired from Associated Grocers 17 years later.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Ballard Elks, the Disabled American Veterans, the National Rifle Association, the Westside Italian Civic Club and the American Legion.
Mr. Stone enjoyed playing the keyboard, fishing, reading Western novels, traveling around the United States in his fifth-wheel, playing cribbage and bird hunting.
Rockybird, as his family called him, kept the family entertained with stories of his days in the service and tall tales of fishing with pals.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, three sisters and a brother.
He is survived by his wife of Issaquah; daughter Marilyn Peterson of Issaquah; three sisters; one brother; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Howard C. Winslow
Howard Cobb Winslow of Issaquah died Nov. 17, 2002, at the Issaquah Care Center.
He was 79.
A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Nov. 24 at the West Valley Advent Christian Church, 3212 S. 288th St. in Auburn.
Mr. Winslow was born on April 11, 1923, in Waterville, Maine, the son of Chester and Violet Winslow.
He was raised in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School.
Mr. Winslow served with the Navy during World War II. Following the war he completed his journeyman machinist certificate and continued at Brown and Sharp completing his engineering certificate while studying at Rhode Island School of Design.
On Oct. 28, 1950, he married Nancy Merritt.
They had recently celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.
Mr. Winslow worked for Honeywell in the defense system division in Minneapolis, Minn.
He also taught geometric tolerance and blueprint reading at Hennepin County Technical School.
He co-authored the textbook for this course.
He retired in 1983, at which time he and his wife moved to Auburn.
They moved to Providence Point in Issaquah in July 2001.
He was born and raised in the Advent Christian Church and served as a member in several capacities both in Minneapolis and Auburn.
In his leisure time Mr. Winslow enjoyed spending time with his family, Bible study, golfing, woodworking and reading.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, the Rev. Kendra Winslow, on Nov. 19, 1985.
He is survived by his wife of Issaquah; son Kenneth Winslow of Issaquah; daughter Kim Ulkekul of Carnation; sister Arline Winslow of Arvada, Colo.; and six grandchildren.

Walter R. Jenn
Walter R. Jenn of Sammamish died Oct. 8, 2002.
He was 77.
Services are 2 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Jenn family home in Sammamish.
Mr. Jenn was born on June 18, 1925, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Raymond and Frances Jenn.
He served three years in the Marines-Navy during World War II, in the South Pacific.
Mr. Jenn was employed by Burnstead Construction Co. for 23 years until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Jenn is survived by his wife of 35 years, Muriel; children Steven, Susan, Mary and Teresa; stepson Greg Hudgins; three sisters; two brothers; and nine grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to a charity of choice.

Jopseph Lanza
Joseph James Lanza died on Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at his Issaquah home.
He was 91.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Oct. 23 at Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 1121 228th Ave. S.E. in Sammamish.
Mr. Lanza was born May 24, 1911, in Paterno Calabro, Italy, the son of James and Julia Lanza.
At the age of 4, he and his family moved to Tacoma, where he later attended St. Leo's High School.
In 1932, Mr. Lanza received his bachelor of arts cum laude from University of Santa Clara in Santa Clara, Calif.
He went on to attend the University of Washington Law School and graduated in 1935.
He graduated with honors and was a member of the Washington Law Review and the Order of the Coif.
On June 5, 1943, he married Gloria Caputo in Spokane.
They moved to Seattle that same year where they settled and started a family.
Mr. Lanza was an eminent trial attorney specializing in insurance and medical malpractice defense work.
He was a partner in the law firm of Williams, Lanza, Kastner and Gibbs for 50 years, from 1935 until his retirement in 1985.
He and his wife lived in Seward Park and were active members of St. Edward's Parish for over 40 years before moving to Providence Point in Issaquah.
His full life included many achievements such as captain of the Santa Clara University basketball team.
After taking up golf at the age of 74, he hit three holes-in-one.
He gardened religiously, raising tomatoes, Italian beans and garlic for over 60 years.
He served as president of the Italian Club, and was a great bowler, tennis player and bridge player.
He continued to practice law into his 80th decade and became proficient at the computer late in life.
Active to the end, he loved theology, philosophy and medicine.
He will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, loyalty and love of family and animals, and for his commitment to his faith.
Mr. Lanza is survived by his wife of Issaquah; sons James Lanza of Bellevue, David Lanza of Seattle and Vincent Lanza of Bainbridge Island; daughters Julie, Lisa and Lori of Port Townsend, Gina Lanza of Spokane and Mary Lanza of Seattle; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Ted McCarty
Ted McCarty of the Maple Hills area south of Issaquah died Oct. 20, 2002, at home.
He was 65.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Oct. 24 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home.
A reception will follow at the Issaquah Fraternal Order of Eagles.
Mr. McCarty was born on Feb. 16, 1937, in San Angelo, Texas.
On Jan. 12, 1957, he married Priscilla Plummer in Los Angeles.
Mr. McCarty moved to Maple Hills in 1969.
He was employed as an emergency medical technician for Flintoft's Ambulance, Shepard Ambulance and American Medical Response AMR.
He was a 27-year volunteer for King County Fire District 10 and served as battalion chief for the Maple Hills Station.
In his leisure time he enjoyed woodworking, gardening and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by son Ted (Mike) McCarty III in 1987.
Mr. McCarty is survived by his wife of Maple Hills; son William (Bill) McCarty of Renton; daughter Cindy Lee McCarty of Maple Hills; and one grandson.
Donya Scordamaglia
Donya (Hudgins) Scordamaglia, formerly of Issaquah, died June 21, 2002, at her home in Seattle.
She was 46.
Mrs. Scordamaglia was born on Nov. 26, 1955, in Seattle.
When she was a young child the family moved to Issaquah where she graduated from Issaquah High School.
She earned her master's degree in public administration from the University of Washington in 1993.
Mrs. Scordamaglia was a 10-year employee of the King County budget office.
She is survived by her children, Francesco and Lucia Scordamaglia, both of Seattle; her mother, Muriel Jenn of Sammamish; her father, Donald Hudgins of Bellevue; and brother Greg Hudgins of Seattle.
The family suggests remembrances to an education fund for her children at any Washington Mutual Bank.
Stanley E. Volwiler
Stanley E. Volwiler, a former assistant superintendent in the Issaquah School District, died Oct. 20, 2002, in Kirkland.
He was 81.
A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 25 at Washington Cathedral, 12300 Woodinville-Redmond Road, Redmond.
Mr. Volwiler was born on Feb. 25, 1921, in Mabton, the son of Martin and Lizzie Volwiler.
After serving with the U.S. Army Signal corps in World War II, he went on to a 30-year career in education.
After his retirement from the Issaquah School District as the assistant superintendent in 1979, he spent his time in Woodinville riding horses and helping to develop and preserve the equestrian trails on Hollywood Hills.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn of 38 years; daughters Vicki Meyer and Kimberley Stroyan; sister Lenore Green; and four grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to Evergreen Hospice Center in Kirkland, or to a favorite charity.

Herman H. Rohde
The Rev. Herman H. Rohde of Issaquah died Oct. 15, 2002, in Issaquah.
He was 84.
A time of visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Oct. 18, at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home, 540 E. Sunset Way.
A funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Oct. 19 at Eastridge Christian Assembly, 5025 Issaquah-Pine Lake Road. S.E., Issaquah.
Private internment will be at Greenwood Memorial Park in Renton.
The Rev. Rohde was born on Aug. 12, 1918, in Grand Island, Neb., the son of Hans and Katie Rohde.
He graduated from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minn., in 1942.
On May 1, 1943, he married his college sweetheart, Joy.
He became an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God on Feb. 1, 1945.
He served as a pastor in Mitchell, S.D.; in Winnebago, Neb.; and in Bassett, Neb; where all four of his children were born.
He also served in Worthington, Minn.
In 1960 he was elected to serve as the Minnesota District's executive secretary/treasurer for the Assemblies of God.
In 1964 he was elected Minnesota District superintendent of the Assemblies of God and served in this role for 25 years, retiring in 1989.
The Rev. Rohde has served on the regents board for North Central Bible College (North Central University) since 1956, as executive presbyter of the Assemblies of God for eight years, with the Greater Minnesota Association of Evangelicals, on the board of directors for the Central Indian Bible College, on the Teen Challenge of Minnesota and on the National Assemblies of God Home Missions Board.
He received an honorary degree of doctor of divinity from North Central University in 1989.
The Rev. Rohde and his wife moved to Issaquah in 1996 to be near family.
He has been very active at Eastridge Christian Assembly where he served as an elder.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hans and Katie.
He is survived by wife of 59 years, Joy of Issaquah; sons David of McFarland, Wis., Dennis of Westlake Village, Calif., and Richard of San Diego, Calif.; daughter Roberta McMaster of Sammamish; three brothers, the Rev. George Rohde, the Rev. Erwin Rohde, and the Rev. Clarence Rohde; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggests remembrances to the Herman and Joy Rohde Scholarship Fund at North Central University in Minneapolis, Minn., or Eastridge Christian Assembly.
John Michael DiMaggio
John Michael DiMaggio, 66, of Issaquah, died on Oct. 9, 2000.
A private family memorial was held.
Survivors include his wife Marian of Issaquah; daughters Donna Bartholemew of Maple Valley, and Brenda Marsh of Kent; sons John DiMaggio of Monroe, and Marty DiMaggio of Bonney Lake; and sister Marianne Cane of Los Angeles.
Lawrence "Larry" S. Hampton
Lawrence "Larry" S. Hampton, of Issaquah, died on Oct. 15, 2000, at the Issaquah Care Center. He was 99.
A reception in his memory is from 3-5 p.m. on Oct. 21, 2000 at the Issaquah Senior Center, 105 Second Ave N.E. Private inurnment was held at Hillside Cemetery.
Mr. Hampton was born on Aug. 27, 1901 in LaCrosse, Wisc., the son of Lee and Mary Hampton. He was raised in LaCrosse and worked as a cow hand for 10 years in North Dakota where he met and married Lydia Wolfe on Jan. 7, 1929. The family moved to Issaquah in 1936, where he was a carpenter by occupation.
In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, spending time with his family, and lunches with his friends at the Issaquah Senior Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1976. Survivors include son Ken Hampton of Issaquah; daughters Eileen Justice of Seattle and Joan Malmassari of Issaquah; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

H. Delia Whitfield
A memorial service for H. Delia Whitfield, 79, of Issaquah, will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 29, 2000 at Flintoft's Issaquah Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitfield died on Oct. 15, 2000, at the Issaquah Care Center.
She was born on Aug. 22, 1921 in Nampa, Idaho, the daughter of Nicholas and Pauline (Wasel) Susewind. She was raised in Nampa where she graduated from high school.
On Nov. 6, 1946 she married Donald F. Whitfield in Seattle. They made their home in High Point in 1951.
Mrs. Whitfield was a member of Century Chapter No. 66 Order of Eastern Star, was a Past Worthy Matron and currently served as treasurer.
She served as chairman on the advisory board of Issaquah Assembly No. 54 Rainbow Girls and was awarded the Grand Cross of Color. She also was a member of the Gilman Rebekah Lodge No. 59, serving as Noble Grand at the time of her death. Mrs. Whitfield was a recipient of the Chivalry award, the highest honor of the Rebekah Lodge.
In addition, Mrs. Whitfield was a member of the Issaquah Valley Grange No. 581, and was named Very Important Granger in 2000.
Her memberships also included the Issaquah Orthopedic Guild and the Rhododendron Societies of Bellevue and Seattle.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Aug. 5, 1982 and by son Michael in 1950.
She is survived by son Nick of Issaquah, daughter Geneva A. Croft of Roseburg, Ore.; brother Omar Susewind of Redmond; three grandchildren; and two great-granchildren.
