Janis E. Petersen 56, of Toms River passed away April 6, 2008 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
Janis was a life long resident of Toms River, she graduated from Toms River High School in 1970 and went on to Monmouth University to receive her Bachelor of Science Degree in 1974. She was a Biology Teacher at Central Regional High School, at Lacey High School, then Toms River High School East, where she retired after 25 years. Janis was a communicant of St. Luke's RC Church, Toms River.
During her high school career at TRHSS she was a cheerleader and very active on the Student Council, at Monmouth University she was also on the Cheerleading Squad and a Sorority member. As a teacher at Toms River High School East she was class advisor and was listed in Who's Who of American Teachers. Janis was a CCD Coordinator, Eucharist Minster and Vacation Bible School Teacher at St. Luke's RC Church. She was a Yankee's fan, loved Derek Jeter, traveling, the beach and was an avid flea marketer and antique Collector.
Surviving are her husband William B., her daughter Nicole and fiancé Michael Connolly, and grandchildren Michael and Jenna Lynn. Her sister and brother in law Judi and Christopher Slavin. Her mother in law Doris Petersen and Brother in law and sister in law Wayne and Marie Petersen. Her niece Julia Slavin and nephews Christopher Slavin, Daniel Slavin and Trevor Petersen.

Born in Brooklyn, NY, living their all of his life, until moving to Manchester 17 years ago. He was a manager in the vegetable department for A & P, in Bay Ridge Brooklyn, NY, for 33 years, retiring in 1981. Louis was a US Army Veteran during World War II, a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Italian American Club of Leisure Knoll.
He is survived by his wife Katherine, and two sons and their wives; Thomas and Camille of Toms River and Anthony and Stella of Searingtown, NY; 8 Grandchildren and 2 Great Grandchildren.

He was an Insurance Agent for the Prudential Insurance Company in Union City, NJ . He was a World War II Army Veteran, a member of St. Barbara's Greek Orthodox Church, Toms River, he was a member and Past Master of the Highland Masonic Lodge #80 of Jersey City and the Shriners of Livington.
He was predeceased by his first wife Bertha in 1968 and his second wife Anne in 2003. Surviving are his son and daughter in law Harry and Linda Xanthopoulos, his daughter and son in law Sophia and John Steber and grandsons Christopher and Nicholas.

Nancy Sabia, (nee Salerno) 74, passed away April 1, 2008 at her home in Toms River.
Born in Orange, NJ in 1934, she attended Newark State College now known as Kean University where she received her Bachelors Degree and was the President of Nu Theta Chi Sorority. She received hers Master Degree in Education from Seton Hall University She was also an inductee into the "Who's Who in American Education"
Married to her beloved husband David Sabia of 49 years, they spent most of their lives in South Orange NJ where they raised their two children Andrew and Donna before moving to Toms River in 2000. She spent 43 years teaching children in the Newark school System where she was instrumental in developing the English as a Second Language Curriculum for Mount Vernon School.
Nancy was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Her life was a shining example of pure love, gentle strength, tender compassion and unwavering faith.
Surviving is her husband David, her son Andrew Sabia and his wife Dorothy (Geri) her daughter Donna Torre and her husband Scott, and four beloved grandchildren, David, Matthew, Nicole, and Jessica.

Mary E. "Betty" Hansen, 92 of Toms River, passed on Sunday, March 30, 2008 at the Whiting Health Care Center, Whiting.
Born in Plainfield where she lived until moving to Toms River in 1960. Mrs. Hansen was one of the early members of the Silverton First Aid Squad and a life member of the Silverton Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
She is predeceased by her husband Ernest who passed in 1974 and her brother Donald Vail. Teresa Ann Petrick, 53, of Toms River, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2008, at Robert Woods University Hospital of New Brunswick.
Born in Newark, Terry has resided in Edison, Maryland and Ohio, while summering in Green Island Toms River since 1956. She moved to Toms River in 1988. She was a graduate of The Ohio State University and received a Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering. She worked as an Assistant Engineer for the Lakewood Municipal Utilities Authority. Prior to that, Terry worked for Groundwater and Environmental Services in Wall, as Senior Manager of Engineering and Compliance.
She also worked for the Township of Toms River as Environmental Engineer, for American Standard as Corporate Engineer, and for Blasland Bouch and Lee as Project Engineer. Terry was a member of the Green Island Association, and of The Ohio State Alumni Association.
Surviving Terry are her parents, Bill and Toni Petrick of Toms River, her brother William Petrick of Toms River, and her sister Linda A. Cozad of Toms River, 3 nephews, David, Michael and Primo, and 1 niece, Stephanie.

Known for her boundless love and open and caring heart, Doris touched those around her with a purposeful and deliberate goodness. Whether mentoring young piano pupils, giving a healing massage, or helping people understand their lives with astrology, Doris embodied kindness, creativity and service to others.
Born Doris Elise Schneider on March 31, 1933, in Muhlenberg Hospital, to Charles and Eleanora Schneider, she attended Dunellen High School, the New York Academy of Dramatic Arts, and traveled as a principle player with the Clare Tree Major Children's Theater. The long-time Manager of the Silverton Medical Center, she was also a member of the Gloria Chapter, No. 159, of the Eastern Star.
Doris leaves behind her children Gary Gray, Kim Yesis, Scott Gray, Brett Gray and Tammy Van Blarcom. Recently predeceased by her sister Lynda McNeil, she is survived by her siblings Deanna Bonner-Ganter and Robert Schneider as well as 10 grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Antonio Mercandetti, 94 of Toms River, passed on Sunday March 16, 2008 at Community Medical Center, Toms River.
Born in New York City he lived in Jackson before moving to Toms River 2001. Mr Mercandetti was a n Office Administrator for Brevel Electric Co of Carlstadt for 24 years retiring 1978. He was a founding member of the Central Jersey Italian American Club of Jackson. He worked for the Brooklyn & Todd Ship Yard during WW II.
He is predeceased by his wife Anna Melillo Mercandetti who passed in 1997 and his son Michael in 1986. He is survived by his son Anthony of Toms River and his daughter Joanne of Gilbert, Arizona, three grandchildren Anthony, Danielle and Michael Lamberty.

Loretta MacAvoy Rausch, age 84 of Leasure Village, Lakewood died Sunday at Shore rock Gardens Nursing Home.
Born in Brooklyn N.Y. She resided in Aberdeen before moving to Lakewood 20 years ago. Mrs. Rausch was a Homemaker, and a member of the Heratige Club of Leasure Village, and a member of the St. Gerard Guild.
Mrs. Rausch was predeceased by her husbands, Edward J. MacAvoy in 1983, and Arthuir Rausch in 2003. One brother Edward MacAvoy in 1983. She is survivied by two sons James MacAvoy and Gerard MacAvoy, Two daughters Barbara and her husband Michael Carton, and Mary Ellen and her husband Peter Gadebusch. Two Grandchildren Jennifer and Jeffrey Carton.

Jerry J. Morra, a retired apparel industry executive, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008. He was 81.
Morra was president of overseas development for imports at Warnaco Inc., a clothing company in New York, and also worked at AMC Merchandising Corp. and Phillips-Van Heusen Corp. Throughout his career, Morra traveled extensively in Asia, and Europe. Morra was born on March 19, 1925, in Newark, NJ. He graduated from Barringer High School in 1943, in the middle of World War II. He joined the Navy and, after gaining a commission, was assigned to the USS Yorktown, where he served in Pacific Theater as a gunnery officer. Morra left the Navy as a lieutenant-junior grade in 1946, then attended Colgate University. He graduated cum laude with a bachelor's degree in political science in 1947. After a series of jobs, including a stint at a music licensing company where he met his wife, Dorothy Luco, he went into the apparel business in 1949. He joined AMC Merchandising as a menswear buyer. He rose to vice president at AMC, leaving in 1970 to join Van Heusen as general manager for menswear. In 1978, he joined Warnaco as president of overseas development for imports. Ten years later, he retired as senior vice president at Warnaco.
Morra lived in Wayne, NJ, from 1957 to 1988. After retiring, he moved to the Greenbriar Woodlands adult community in Toms River, NJ. He was the first vice president of the Men's Club at Greenbriar Woodlands. An avid golfer, he was also secretary of the Men's Golf Club.
He is survived by his wife, sons Stephen and Christopher, daughters Diane Oatis and Janice Morra, and a grandson, Jay Oatis.

Louise Kehl 88, of Lakewood passed away March 13, 2008 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.
Born in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania she resided in Spring Valley, NY before moving to Lakewood 30 years ago. Mrs. Kehl was a TaxPayer Representative for the IRS in New City, NY for 15 years retiring in 1974.
She was predeceased by her husband Eugene in 1970.

Born in North Bergen, living in Guttenberg and Paramus, before moving to Brick in 1980. He was an Engineer for the United Water Resources of Harrington Park, NJ. John was a United States Army Air Force Veteran during World War II, a member and trustee for 9 years at Lions Head North, an Avid Golfer and a long standing Kiwanis Member.
John is predeceased by his first wife Esther Devlin in 1990, and is survived by his wife Rose Vercammen Bartnicki Devlin, a son and daughter in law John F. and Susan Driscoll Devlin Jr., of Oxford, MD; 2 Grandchildren; Elizabeth Devlin and Andrew Devlin; a sister Alice Gallagher; and 4 step sons Fr. Arthur Dougherty, 98, of Toms River, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at Meridian Nursing Home.
Born in Staten Island, NY, Mr. Dougherty moved to Toms River in 1969. He served in the United States Navy during WWII and Korean War, and later became a Foreman for the NY City Water Company, NY, for 35 years, retiring in 1972. Mr. Dougherty was a member of the Men's Club, the Singles Club and the Off Beat Coral Group, of Holiday City at Silverton.
Mr. Dougherty is predeceased by his wife Marie Dougherty.

Born in Bremerton, Washington he moved to Newark in the early 1950's, lived in Highland Park before moving to Brick in 1993. Mr Ryerson retired from Johnson & Johnson, New Brunswick as manager. He was a member of the American Independent Club in Highland Park.

Albert B. Ely, 88, of Brick, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Mr. Ely resided in Staten Island until moving to Brick in 1983. Mr. Ely was a Police Officer for the New York City Police Dept. for 24 years, retiring in 1977, as a Sargeant. He was a member and past-Vice President of the NJ Police Organization #1013, a member of the Knights of Columbus # 836 of Brick, and member of the Men's Club, President of the Architectural Committee, and member of the bowling club, all of Lions Head South.
Mr. Ely is predeceased by his brother Edmund Ely and sister Rosemarie Taylor. Louise S. Piccoli, 90, of Toms River, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick.
Born in Harrison, Mrs. Piccoli resided in Elizabeth before moving to Toms River in 1990. She was a Homemaker.
Mrs. Piccoli is predeceased by her husband Alfred Piccoli who passed in 1992, and by her brother Peter Klaus. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Kansu, her sister Irene Menz, and 2 grandchildren, Dervishe and Kemal.
Visiting will be Thursday, 2-4 & 6-8pm, at Silverton Memorial Funeral Home, 2482 Church Road, Toms River, NJ. Funeral Service Friday 10:00 am at the Funeral Home, arrive 9:30 am, interment St. Teresa Cemetery, Summit.
